The intakes are something called Prandtl-Pitot tubes Basically using them you can meassure air pressure and speed of the air passing around the plane (so consequentally you can meassure the relative airspeed of the aircraft) by way of fluid mechanics

@1:00 "all those intakes" They are bypass intake doors. At a stop and low airspeeds, the main intakes can't supply enough air to the engine. So these are doors that open to increase the size/amount of inlet air.
just a random thought about top speed for fighter craft. Turns out we've been de-prioritizing top speed in basically everything, so we don't have these mach-two-plus fighters anymore because they were never really that effective. maneuverability and radar/IR signature are a lot more important apparently.
Saw a documentary explaining that American next gen fighters aren't as focused on reaching extreme speeds because its impractical to think any actual dogfight would occur at speeds over Mach 1.6 or something. The Russians on the other hand are very proud of their super Mach jets like the SU-57.
the yak -141 was to be improved upgrade of yak-38 vstol. flight testing begins at end 1980s to early 1990s in Russia. but sadly they only made 4 and never finish the project because of the collapse of USSR and other factors. and your right they had little help and funding from Usa
The Intakes in aircraft like the American f-84 and the Russian mig series of aircraft were to I believe to help cool down the engine of the aircraft I may be wrong and they may have other uses to but I think that’s what they were used for. Also the thing about the lower speed for more modern aircraft is because a study was done and it was seen that a pilot rarely went supersonic in real life and so they lowered the max speed in favor of maneuverability in dogfights. Ps:sorry for the long comment

There are a lot of metall alloys that makes the plane resistant to heat and corrosion like the Ti AI 5 Sn 2,5 F 79 Titanium alloy or the EN AW-7075 [AI Zn 5,5 Mg Cu] Aluminium alloy and more
The f35 started development in the mid 90s and yeah 80s had some insane tech on both sides not just the soviets Gajin decided to make this plane bizarre in its abilities by making everything else shit, again this plane may seem very crazy but it’s very in line with what was being developed at the time both in terms of Air superiority and Naval tech that shit was wild
It's funny how people dont realize this plane was, in essence, the test bed for the F-35's design and engine tech. I also didn't notice at first how similar the silhouette is from the side and front to the MiG-25; just smaller.
cool as it is in a video game apparently VTOL is nigh on useless in real world applications the Harrier infamously never really used its VTOL system and it was horrendously fuel inefficient when hovering, I remember reading a lockheed press release where they said something along the lines of "we have figured out how to avoid the short comings of the VTOL system that the Harrier had run into and we made it more fuel efficient" before doing nothing to prove either statement lol. all that is to say I have no clue why the US decided it needed a supersonic VTOL fighter in the F-35B and at least as I understand it the Yak-141 ran into many of the exact same issues both the Harrier and F-35B project's did
That is very not true. Harriers don't often use their VTOL takeoff capacity because they don't need to because they almost always have airfields and STOL ski ramps available. And they make vertical shipboard landings all the time.
Gajin hasn’t noticed their bias beginning to show in these Mig 29 and Yak 41 airframes and their turning abilities. Hearing Banks though made me want a kid again (I’m only 20) lol, love you guys Phly!❤️
Correction: Lockheed did NOT fund the Yak-141. They studied it and it’s flight characteristics, in order to data collect for the F-35b. Once they were done, so was the aircraft.
