    The one thing I did on my last move was to use "post-it notes". I put a D on it to note that it was done and cleaned. I put it on the door of the cupboard.
    It saved me from having to run through my apartment several times. When i leave i just take off the post it notes. And know i did not leave anything behind.

It Will be Wild, its my first moving :(( im so stressed, any tips for stress? I think i Will have similiar Time to move everything as you had

    • @spirititi2303
      @spirititi2303 7 місяців тому

      @@noahsebastian9791 That's tough! I wish you the best. The move itself went good, but we moved into an unfinished house, which presents some challenges in itself, but that is another story.
      If you have a drivers license, rent a moving van for a day or two. We used that to go to IKEA too, to get a new big dresser and some other things. I don't know where you're from, but IKEA delivery is not cheap, might aswell go get the stuff with your own rented moving van, you also have less risk of damaging your own car, or the furniture you just bought if you can just put it in a spatious moving van.
      Rile up a bunch of family and friends to help you during the moving day itself. professional movers are expensive and if you have loads of heavy stuff to move, you really don't want to do that alone. When it comes to packing, if you are tedious and have a strict system , do that yourself, or you might get into an argument. Start packing the unnecessary stuff immediately, every single spare moment you have. And also, you will always need way more boxes than you think you need! and get loads of bubble wrap for your appliances and breakable stuff.
      If you need a moving lift to get big furniture into your appartment, book that as soon as possible, as well as the necessary trafic boards and the necessary permits to take in space on the road.
      That's all I can say for now! Good luck moving, there are more helpful videos around here, check them out!

    • @hillaryplemons
      @hillaryplemons 7 місяців тому

      @noahsebastian9791 My boyfriend and I are also finally just now seriously starting. We will luckily have access on Monday March 11th but don't have to be out of our current place until the end of the month, and we're only moving a few blocks away.
      BUT! Our place is TERRIBLY cluttered. It's too small, we have too many things we don't need and we're both really bad at organizing and starting and easily get overwhelmed and give up. These videos are really helping though. Today we are actually scheduling several hours to declutter/pack and several hours to list some things for sale online.
      For your first move, here's some advice I can offer:
      The biggest thing from what you've said for me, is unless there's a legitimate NEED for something right away (say, a bed), I would NOT go to Ikea BEFORE you move. Unless you're not able to go afterwards due to location or lack or transport or whatever, acquiring big pieces of furniture just to have to move them to a new place sounds like a lot of unnecessary work.
      And even if your plan is just to go pick out stuff and have it delivered to your new place after you're there, I still would advise against this. The reason being, is that until you have spent some time actually living in your new space and developing habits and seeing which rooms you'll be spending more time in and for what, buying a lot of furniture all at once simply because you think you need to have a fully furnished apartment when you first get there can really backfire. A coffee table might look perfect in the store, and even if you think you've measured everything enough, once you get it might turn out way too big for new living room, and having to deal with a cramped space from the get go is not what you want.
      Or let's say one of the items you need to get is a bookshelf. That's fine to buy, but first make sure that it's big enough to hold all your books or whatever, AND that you know exactly where it is going to go and how it will fit. This takes some extra work and planning, but it will be so worth it when your new item functions exactly the way you need it to and doesn't create new problems you then have to figure out. Picking out a bookshelf in the store based on the fact that you need a place to put your books or whatever else, and that you like the way it looks in the store is not enough to go off of. Because once you get your new item into your new home, spend the time and effort into putting it all together (assuming it's from Ikea), only to discover that it's only big enough to hold about half the stuff you needed it for is so disappointing. Because now your new piece of furniture has created new problems that could have been avoided had you selected the right piece to fit your specific needs. And it's impossible to know what all of your needs will be without spending some time living in and familiarizing yourself with your new space first.
      Cont'd...

    I too have moved a lot like 10 times in the last 20 years. That includes three moves in 12 months. My biggest tip is to load the beds last. When you get to your new home, the bed will come out first and be put directly into the bedroom and hopefully you have enough people helping that someone can set the bed up while other people are pulling boxes from the truck. That means if none of your organization works which I have done all these tips and tricks for labeling and everything and things still end up in the wrong room. At least you will have a place to sleep and don’t load things up on the bed after it’s set up. They can go around it but don’t put them on it.

      very helpful tip. Any suggestions how to load the U-BOX container? I am thinking as I have 2 book cases, I would want to load them first, place them on one of the side of the container and use those shelves to put my boxes. I think I will have to have those book cases secured with some belts to hold them up so as not to fall sideways when truckers load those U-BOX on their 18 wheeler truck while shipping my stuff to final destination.

    My best tip is to pack flat screen tvs standing up. Put bubble wrap on front and back, then cover those with large pieces of cardboard. Wrap securely in place by wrapping around and around with Saran Wrap or movers Saran like tape to hold those in place. Then cover with movers blankets, rugs, or old blankets and wrap once around again using with Saran Wrap or movers Saran like tape to secure. Put something in front and back of tv to keep it from moving around. Worked like a charm for me and i and my helper friends were all way past 60 when I moved. Hope this helps someone!

      yes. I was in a double mind whether to take the large TV flat screen with me or to just leave it to donation center. I think I will take it with me as it was a Father's day gift from my son to my husband last year.😀 (We do not have a TV connection, but this new technology allow us to watch youtube, netflix apple TV etc., on the same screen. Boys are boys, they keep buying new technology and force us too to get new technology! Can't say NO what they are offering with LOVE. I was happy with the previous 36" TV screen that was also gifted by him and this he entered our home with this huge box on Father's day! Well thanks for your tips on how to pack flat screen TV.

    I also move a lot and my most important rule is the bigger the box, the lighter the item. Books in small boxes, pillows in the biggest box.

Newspapers are obsolete but ads, menus, or even buying pro packing paper is an option. Smaller glass objects like glasses, candles l, etc can be put be put in socks or other smaller clothes. Stuffing your unmentionables inside is also worth mentioning.

    I did a huge declutter when i moved into my current place (almost 2 full rounds of the mins game!) so im going to skip the decluttering at the start. However, i am about 2.5 weeks out from my next move and am packing all my nonessential items now. As i go through, I'm taking note of things i can declutter (DVDs of movies om fine to live without, books I read and didn't enjoy, crafting items I'll never use, clothes that aren't my style, etc). Even after decluttering almost 800 items, I'm still finding things. It's all the stuff i wasn't ready to part with at the time, which is why i love your recommendation to take multiple passes at decluttering. Once you start questioning an item, you may not be ready today but you've already shifted yoir mindset on it and may be ready to declutter it next year or even next week.

    I started packing early but just moved this week. Its still a process. Had movers move the bulk but I'm STILL moving things out of the old place. I still have 3 weeks to be fully out (this was an unusual situation where my last months rent was waived). Took a huge pile to the donation place today. Other than my house plants and some potted fruit trees I'm taking ......its almost done. (I DO have some "movers depression" and a feeling of regret on the new place...but I had both when I moved to the old place and that was 8 yrs ago and I would have stayed if it were an option so I know it will pass). Can't wait for it to be DONE though.

    Thank you so much for your tips. I'm trying to do better in this move. The last move was horrible! A lot of last minute packing and some of the stuff that was packed in a hurry, I'm decluttering now after being missing in action for 4 years! I think the best thing I'm taking away from your video Is make this a positive experience! I never have and didn't even think about doing that. So starting today it's all positive!
    Here is a tip I would like to share. I doing this for the first time, but it seems like a good idea. I don't like paper box, so I using these really cool collapsible containers from Amazon. They are big enough for all of my clothes and shoes. They come 6 in a package, and are water resistant. You can wipe them off with a damp cloth. After unpacking you can collapse them and put them in the closet. They also have handles on each side. I think what would make them better is if they had a little clear window to see the stuff, but I like them and can't wait to try them out. Thank you again.

    I suppose another tip would be to book your moving trailer, organise your helpers, contact your power and internet company, change your insurance and let various businesses know your new address a few weeks out from the move. Also do your cleaning as you go. Deep clean your window sills, venetian blinds, window surrounds and drapes. wipe down walls, wipe out cupboards etc. On the moving day all you want left to do is a vacuum through.

    Reframe the way you look at it! Also, the clothes packing idea works!! I am moving for the second time within a year. One house I had been in for 24 years!! It is work but doing it well takes the stress out

    Very helpful video. I still get our local newspaper (so comforting to sit down with a coffee and absorb what's going on in my small town). Ask friends and neighbors for theirs. "Free" packing for breakables.

    Hi Priska, this is the first time I watch your video. Excellent tips. I intend to move sometime soon. I'm a senior so for me it will take me longer to pack. Yes, I am decclutering but won't be getting rid of much since I've decclutered for over 8 years. So I think I could say I've gotten rid of plenty. However, I know i still will continue to deccluter once I know the size of the space I will be working with next. I find some of the tips you give helpful for me since I haven't thought of layering things one on top of the other like you did with the vases and ornament. It will be very useful for me. Also, putting the dishes in a big pot very ingenious. If you remember other good tips from your previous moves, please share them also. I need all the help I can get. Thank you.

    I am less than a year away from getting married and moving out for the first time, the only other move I’ve ever done was once across country & we used a moving company. Trying to get all the suggestions so as I come up on the event it will be easy. I’m not moving a full household but I still have a lifetime of items to figure out.

    Hi, Priska, very useful tips about moving. Taking care of the cancer patient age 87 and running the household all by myself, no help whatsoever in day to day errands and now decided to move near our son's home in the current situation. I was literally overwhelmed how would I be able to handle this long distance move? I have enough time so with a long deep breath I am going to start decluttering and separating items that I will take along with me. I have no problem working at night where I am not distracted with daily chores...so I am sure I will pack, label and list everything nicely. In fact the u-Haul employee suggested to have insurance coverage and when I ask, just in case I happen to place a claim , how can I come up with what amount I can put a claim for. He suggested taking picture of every item that I put in the box. That is a good idea as we have a digital image for our own use if we have to open the box for a particular item. Well, very nice video with lots of information. Thank you so much.

    Awesome video thanks, we’re 7 weeks out from moving from a medium sized home- have already started and have done a lots of your decluttering tips for rom experience, but have picked up lots of new tips . Like you I'm naturally tidy and organised so living in the current state of chaos is quite anxiety inducing- keep telling myself that it will all come together and be worth it - again thanks 🤗

    My tip, move your car outta the garage, clean it as if its a hospital, move allllll your boxes and crap into garage, order heavy stuff down one side of the garage, big things like fridges that you dont need, put close to the garage door so they can go on first, light stuff on the other side with odd shapes towards the back.
    hire a truck or large trailer, back up to shed, load the big shit in heavy lower, lighter as you go up higher. play tetris and pack everything in as well as you can, have a small hole, roll up the carpet rug and shove it in there, that way as you get to the back of the truck you have room for odd stuff or forgotten stuff.
    we did a 3 bedroom house move pack into the trucj with 4 people in 45 minutes. then at the other end if you have time set up a chain, two men to unload into garage, two to take stuff to rooms labeled on boxes.
