    Hi, I've never grown mushrooms before, but I have been interested for a while now.
    So I've bought a mushroom grow kit of amazon, but I really am a complete novice at this.
    Anyway, fascinating topic & cool videos, even if a lot of it goes over my head.

  • @chrisutley812
    @chrisutley812 19 днів тому

    Question for you, I spawned my grains to coir in a shoe box and after about a month the condensation is creating tiny pools of water on top of the mycelium, and small spots on the surface where it’s just water and no mycelium, its not a lot but I’m worried about contamination,
    Should I dab it up with paper towel? I don’t think my coir was too wet to begin with but I live in a warm humid climate with no AC so it really holds the moisture

    • @chrisutley812
      @chrisutley812 19 днів тому

      I did put down a thin pseudo casing on top, but now the surface is almost completely white mycelium, so the water drops just roll around on top.

    • @Mycophilia

    Thanks for the truffle videos!
    So right now I’m harvesting my truffle jars and if I want more truffles, just mix the left over grains with coco coir like you did in this video, put it in an unmodified shoe box, close the lid and neglect for a couple months, no casing layer or misting is that right?
    And do I need to sterilize/pasteurize the coco coir?

  • @vrod4178

    I never heard anybody mention starting jars with half coir. Wouldn't it create more optimal conditions for truffles?

    • @Mycophilia
      @Mycophilia  4 місяці тому

      I would imagine it would take a lot longer to fully colonize as you won't be able to shake it to speed up colonization. It would be quicker to let it just colonize on grains, then spawn to bulk. However, if you have time and want to do the least possible work, this will work as well.

    Can I make truffles after fruiting 2 times ?

  • @Salbron
    @Salbron 11 місяців тому

    When mixing grain and coir. what is the best/ optimum ratio between them for truffle production and are they kept completely dark? and can this mix be done in a bag and not laid out. Advantages for laying in boxes over bag grows?

    • @Mycophilia
      @Mycophilia  11 місяців тому +3

      1:3 to 1:4 grain to sub ratio is optimal ime. They do not need darkness, I don't recommend it either, although you certainly can. I feel like it would increase chances of contamination in the long run.
      Yes it can be done in a bag, I have some videos on that from a few months ago here. I suppose a benefit for a box would be less chance of things going anaerobic, but really bags work fine as well. Ultimately, it doesn't matter all that much.

    So after watching the video I have a question for you.
    I have an high moisture corn silo with left over corn in it do you think that any of these could have started growing in the grain that was left behind?.

      @@Mycophilia
      Thank you I was thinking probably not! But you never know about what Mother Nature will throw out there?🤣
      So what I have is a small grain problem in a silo that is a high moisture silo it’s about 20’ around and 45’ high, the output auger broke and we can get inside but the entryway is small and am wondering if I could inculcate the old grain to help break down the grain a little faster.
      The amount of grain is a pile about 10’ high that is sloped to the door way.
      I can enter the silo and there seems to be a crazy looking molding on the grain? 😳 So something is happening. but I’m reluctant to start digging into it? So the silo is not totally full just a problematic pile and am looking for a way to get rid of it?
      So when you were talking about moldy grain? I was like ding, ding, chicken dinner 😂😂 so I’m just spitballing at something that might get rid of the grain? Hopefully.
      Thanks again for any input.

      @@michigannative2951 hey man that is a unique situation you’re in 😂 There is nothing that I at least grow that can reliably break down the grain in the sense I think you mean (to basically get rid of it). Wish I could help but that’s the best I got unfortunately
