I just wanna say thank you so much for making these videos. They are incredibly helpful for an absolute beginner like myself. These videos saved me a solid 60$ since I didn't have to go to a repair store to switch my iphone battery out.
If the "pull on the tab to remove the adhesive strip" turns into "rip the tabs off and have a battery stuck in the phone", then: The flat end of the spudger can be used to pry under the battery from the bottom of the phone towards the top. DO NOT bend the battery and try to pry it up. Just force the flat end between the battery and the strips alternating from one strip to the other slowly walking the battery off. Once it is off, throw the old battery out of a window into the grass and not near anything flammable while reassembling the phone. If it hasn't burst into flames outside by the time you are done, then its safe to recycle.
I always try to do it without undoing the 4 screws to remove the screen, even though it's much more fiddly as you mustn't bend the screen back more than 80 or 90 degrees to save breaking the screen ribbon-cables. Why? To ensure that I don't get the "Long Screw" problem, which would mean the whole circuit board board has to be scrapped due to "Blue Screen" or "Red Screen" preventing power-up. If you look at 0:33 you will see the different screw lengths documented. If you get the 4 screws mixed up, DO NOT put a screw in the lower-right-hand screwhole (1.3mm screw, circled red) when re-assembling, as you will trash 5 microscopic tracks on the printed circuit if you put a long (3.25mm) screw in that hole by mistake. The screws circled orange & yellow at 0:33 do 90% of the work of keeping the connectors engaged anyway.
so glad this guide is here. my battery goes from 100% to about 25% in less than twenty minutes when playing spotify, or basically using any apps. Ebay, here i come, i want a battery please :D
Hi. Could someone help? I need clarification on the part at 3:27 where she mentions that you can lift up the adhesive strip of the battery and cut it in half. Is this only for certain models? I have watched several videos now and most people say to use a bit of heat and pry the battery out slowly. I am yet to see anyone else mention these adhesive strips.
IS THE ADHESIVE TAPES ARE IS SO HARD TO PULL OUT? IF I USE THE PLASTIC LEVER TI LIFT IT WITHOUT PULLING OUT AND CUTTING IS POSSIBLE. SOME PEOPLE SAYS THAT THEY NEED NOT CUT THE TAPE JUST LIFT IT AND REFIX THE NEW BATTERY , AM I CORRECT PLEASE ADVICE AS I HAVE ALREADY OPEN THE PHONE TO REMOVE THE PUFFED BATTERY.WAITING YOUR GUIDENCE .
I was trying to fix this phone for someone else, I opened it up and managed to get the old battery out, and I put the new battery in. I put the screen back on and did a test boot to make sure everything was working. It all was except the home button, so i took off the screen again to try to fix it. The second time there were lines on the screen and the digitizer wasn’t working. I tried taking the screen off again and now the phone won’t boot. Any ideas on what’s happening/how to fix it?
it was relatively easy to take the phone apart per your video.. putting the cables back so everything connected correctly and the phone worked afterward was impossible. i tried over and over to connect all the cables correctly, put all the other parts back. to no avail, the phone didn't work any longer. time to get a new phone tomorrow!
Hi, my brother and I watched your tutorial recently and replaced the battery in his iPhone 5c with a brand new one as the phone was no longer working/ switching on or charging like it used to when he first got it. However the new battery has not fixed this. It still refuses to charge and switch on. What do you think might be wrong with it? I was wondering if maybe it could be the charging port, what do you think?
Hints: Heat is key to loosen the glue, use a hair dryer. A credit card will dislodge the battery if the white strips break. The screws are tiny, keep your workplace clean. Not all my screws stuck to a magnet & they required extra care.
i tried this on 2 different phones. on one i did everything correct and now it won't charge and is at 50% as i type this. the other both adhesive strips broke
The adhesive strips didn't work for me when I was performing a battery replacement on an iPhone 5c using the directions; they just snapped. Ended up prying the whole battery off. And after I reinstalled it with the new strips, I had to do one more repair on they lightning connecter a week after and the new strips, again, broke when I tried to take them off. :-))) Needless to say, I ended up replacing the lightning connector assembly without even taking the battery out because it was on so tightly. Using heat kind of helped; however I still broke a couple spudgers. Lesson of the story... Once the strips are on, they are on, just pray that they come off, and if they don't, make sure you have a spare battery on the side.
My iPhone 5c keeps dying everyday at about 80-90% battery, when ever I disconnect from the charger withing few minutes it will die (sometimes works for a short time).... Then it reboots with the red battery logo to plug in and charge.... Is it a faulty battery? or is it another problem?
Well I fucked it up, at first display didn't react to any touch after I made battery replacement, after that I made the process again but now my phone doesn't even turning on. Sooooo disappointed with myself
same only needed to this to restore my childs pic from birth apple never backed up my stuff in i-cloud possibly the worst apple phone ive ever owned 4th battery replacment in 5 years
Bloody hell, too much work, how many people even have all those tools, Apple for sure know how to rinse people out of money, that's why they don't allow any other chargers but their own, any other headphones but their own or any other battery replacement other than their own, all which don't last two minutes 🤔
For sure. I've seen many relatives phones damaged enough to warrant having them fixed at a shop regardless of make. A repair kit usually comes with the required tools. It's just tiny screwdriver bits, a suction cup and pry tools
My 5c screen was getting loose on the whole left side for no reason.. i never dropped it or anything. Is it because of the battery that got swollen? I don't understand why apple selling these shitty phones. Even the 6,7 and 8 has screen loose/clicking.
I just wanna say thank you so much for making these videos. They are incredibly helpful for an absolute beginner like myself. These videos saved me a solid 60$ since I didn't have to go to a repair store to switch my iphone battery out.
everything after minute 4:00 is witchcraft
Screw those adhesive strips, took me an hour to get them off once they broke ffs
This was literally the easiest video to follow and worked perfectly! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I'm glad apple made it simple 😩
thank you! 5 years worth of pictures of my child lost nothing backed up on my i-cloud only option i had was to get a new battery to restore everything
When removing the battery both sides of the glue snapped off so m going to have to try and pry it off...
Warm up the battery (slightly) with a hair dryer and it will come out much easier.

If you happen to have an old ice tray you can use that to keep your parts organized.
Wow! those adhesive strips are pretty cool.
so glad this guide is here. my battery goes from 100% to about 25% in less than twenty minutes when playing spotify, or basically using any apps. Ebay, here i come, i want a battery please :D
Do they make higher capacity batteries for this phone for longer battery life?
I was using a screwdriver to get the battery out and the battery sparked at me what should I do now??
Adress the battery as god and worship it.

The iPhone 5 and 5s don't have the strips, and the 5c does
The 5s does have the strips, unless someone else has removed them to change a battery beforehand
Ronnie1001 ok

Jas Claire check your screen LCD and digitizer assembly

Is removing the screen necessary? I assume removing the battery first before any repairs is the safe way to do it.
can you use this to reboot you phone to?
Where do i get the battery
Very good guide! Will be using more in the future!
Did everything exact! And now it won't turn on

+iFixit Video wait so we can't use a 5s battery on a 5c iphone? yes or no?
Yes you can look on ebay they says that the iphone 5s battery works for iphone 5c. Just search for iphone 5c battery
yes you can use the 5s battery in the 5c . only difference is the voltage which will result in a 3% longer battery time in the 5c.
No
No as this can cause damage to your iphone.
Will I phone 4 battery work in I phone5

My 5c screen was getting loose on the whole left side for no reason.. i never dropped it or anything. Is it because of the battery that got swollen? I don't understand why apple selling these shitty phones. Even the 6,7 and 8 has screen loose/clicking.
