I used this video successfully to change my battery! I feel that 3 points should be made. 1st you should turn of the iphone, 2nd make sure you take out the sim card and lastly the 4 screws holding the screen are all different lengths and it is VERY important to make sure the screws go back into their correct holes when reassembling, else damage to the phone will incure.

Thanks for an easy to follow video with good directions.
After 30 minutes, I was successful in my first attempt, saving me about $80.
Man I've never seen such tiny screws!

    UPDATE:
I finally got it apart but the red tool in the kit was way different than the one you have been showing/using on video. Must have changed it somewhere along the line.
The kit I got has a red plastic tool but it has a slight 'hooked' end instead of the straight end that you are showing.
Needless to say, the hooked end was irritating to use. I had to get my watch repair tools out and use a blunt ended watch-back-remover tool.
Finally got it out and replaced with new battery.
Just wanted to give an update for tool kit.
    Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you for posting this video. It was very helpful. I was so annoyed that my phone started experiencing problems 1 week AFTER the warranty period ended. Thanks to your video tutorial, I was able to purchase a replacement battery and my husband changed the battery. Just beware - there are two strips of double-stick tape that make the original battery very hard to remove. However, once we pried it out, it was easy to follow the steps in the video. The only thing that doesn't work now is my earphone jack, but it was worth it.

I have a iphone 5c. This battery worked perfectly with my 5c. I did need to turn the battery up-side-down, but that was all, and inconsequential!
    Thanks, a very good product!

Your tip on using a heat gun to soften the adhesive was helpful. I ended up using a heating pad to warm my phone, though I did remove the adhesive instead of reusing it.

Excellent instructions with one small exception. When prying out the battery, DO NOT pry from the motherboard side. This will either damage or remove chips essential to making sure that certain functions, such as the touchscreen, home button, power button, etc.,work.

+Ami Patel I second that! I did like the video at 1:40 and pried out the battery from the mobo side and now it won't charge / home button doesn't work. Must have damaged the motherboard. Make sure to pry from the other side!

Thank you so much for this video. The instructions that came with the battery had several unnecessary steps that were so confusing and poorly illustrated, I panicked half way through. This video saved my phone! I did have a non responsive screen so I had to take it apart and disconnect and then reconnect everything and thankfully that worked.

Excellent video, had no issues swapping out my battery. However, if you are attempting to do the same, be very cautious not to touch essential parts of the interior. I managed to swap it out by holding the outer shell, don't touch the inner workings unless you have to!

when inserting the screen back into place, I found out that if you secure the bottom of the screen first, the HOME button WILL NOT WORK once the phone has been powered on. So, SECURE THE UPPERMOST PART OF THE SCREEN INTO THE PHONE FIRST, then work your way down.

Thanks for posting! Worked like a charm. I would say heating the back of the case or removing the screen from the case is required as the battery is stuck in there pretty good, wouldn't want to damage a $30 screen replacing a $5 battery.

That's a LOT of bending for a battery that could burst into flames with the slightest damage, especially if it's already a weak & borderline damaged battery to begin with. VERY RISKY!

Just sat down, and swapped the battery in about 25-30 minutes. BTW... get one of the "tool kits", they run $3-10 on eBay, but you've got to have one to pop the screen, unseat press-fit cables, etc. Helps to have the suction cup(s) too.

Some tips get one of those magnifying glasses with the lights in them or an arm with a lighted magnifying lens. Also get a magnet and magnetize the screw drivers that helps a lot from dropping the screws into the phone. I used a magnet to hold the screws while I was working on it. If the control button at the bottom of the screen doesn't work pull up the screen again and make sure the small spring contacts where next to the button are bent up so they touch the screen. I also was not able to get the battery off the case the glue they used was really stuck I used a metal screw driver and wiggled it under the battery which did the trick but also shorted the old battery and released some gas which isn't good. It could have caught fire so my opinion is if local phone repair shop charges $30 to do this I would have them do it. I was able to get it done.

BEWARE There is a bus circuit under the battery towards the top of the phone under the battery. You can see it in the video right where the pointy end of the white glue tape is. When separating the battery one of these got cut/ripped.... just a heads up when sliding whatever you use to separate the battery from the phone... =(

Good Instructions, other than I would not put the battery connector back in until the very last moment. This is because the first thing you should do is remove power, and the last put it back on. For example, If you drop a screw on the board and have the battery connected, you get smoke and a dead phone. If there is no power, no big deal. Fart around with it as little as possible while it has power connected!

Thanks for a great instructional video. I wish I had paid attention to your recommendation to pop off the screen connectors. I didn't and despite being super careful when I popped the battery in, I broke the smallest ribbon cable to the screen. Didn't notice until I turned it on! Will be more careful to follow your advice exactly next time. Others be warned...

Excellent presentation - gave me the courage to try it... and it worked fine except I dropped one of the microscopic screws when trying to replace it - I had everything laid out on a white towel so I could see and keep track of everything - couldn't find the little screw so I used additional elec tape to help put pressure on the little battery connector bracket it holds one end of. Only concern is I'm afraid the screw fell into the phone chassis - if so, I can only hope it never rattles around and creates a problem for a circuit. If you ever do any more work on this video, I'd suggest adding a heads-up about the difficulty of replacing the brackets/screws - it's really difficult - the kit I bought had magnetic screwdrivers but the magnetism wasn't strong enough to pick up the larger of the microscopic screws - eventually I got by bye putting a little bar soap on the screwdriver and it stuck well enough to let me lower it into position. Anyway, thanks again - very nice presentation!

I did the same thing. Screw is still somewhere in my daughter's phone. Spent about half an hour shaking and bumping it trying to find but no luck. Finally gave up and put it back together minus screw in one side of battery connector hold-down tab. Powered up and work fine. As long as screw is in a position it can't cause a short should be good. Time will tell. Those screws are so small and I didn't have a magnetic screwdriver.

The reason all of you, who are commenting that now your screen doesn't turn on, or home button doesn't work, or power button doesn't work, or screen isn't touch responsive anymore, is because you damaged the logic board by prying the battery out as done in the video. Doing it this way you are pressing right on the logic board itself!!! Instead, you should remove the adhesive strips themselves from under the battery by pulling them gently around the battery edges. Though more time consuming, it is much much safer.

My son's IPhone 5c soaked, what's chances? I wonder if battery change or even taking it out to charge separately would work? Looking inside while watching your video I quickly sussed that Apple do not NOT want anyone, at all, to effect any kind of repair. Sticking down the battery is idiotic. All suggestions welcome. Tony

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  10 років тому

Anthony rutter If the phone doesnt work anymore... you dont have anything to lose, as apple probably wont cover it if you dont have insurance. So you can always try a new battery replacement, and if it STILL doesnt work... you arent out very much money. Batteries are cheap.
