Hey! great videos! I am writing a 20 page research paper for my History of the Medieval Church class, and its over why the crusaders fought in the first crusade!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Alexios didn't just abandoned the crusaders. I read somewhere that his representative with the crusaders left after Bohemund told him of a plan to assassinate him, because it was suposedly believed that Alexios was aiding the turks. I also read once that Alexios was in fact on his way to help the crusaders and turned back after one of the crusading nobles who was fleeing back to Europe told Alexios that it was hopeless and that the siege was lost. Which of these versions is true?
Another great video! I've always been interested in the ethnic groups that participated in the Crusades and how they managed to work together during it. I've always wonder about this, and have looked for some characters but have never found anything on it, in your research have you come across any Irish Crusader's or any strong mention of them? I know the Irish are deeply involved with Christianity and Catholicism and would suspect they would be among some of the first combatants like the French.
Real Crusades History That would be great! There are three books that I've discovered, unfortunately I can't remember their exact names off of the top of my head, but I believe they were titled: England and the Crusades, Scotland and the Crusades & Wales and the Crusades. I may be mistaken but fairly sure those were their titles. It was unfortunate because I couldn't find an Ireland and the Crusades. hehe.
***** Maybe, I'm taking a chance here but there are 3 separate historical books by a French historian who wrote 3 long books each an historical novel, 3 of the series which I read about 20 years back based on the Knight Templars. I am not saying good or bad about THEM, but the books are fantastic and have long bibliographies to show where he got his sources from. MORE....the 3 hour movie "Arn,the Knight Templar" is based on it and the closest historically to what could have been rather than the drivel about the Christians who LOL (fought) when not raping, looting or butchering Jews who returned here to Israel with the Prophet Ezra and Nechemia historically King Cyrus 2 of Persian Empire gave them permission to rebuild the Temple which was on his (then) conquered land of Israel. Could you maybe make a video about telling who was your favorite King that lived in those times, and why that King is your favorite and such because I realy am interested what your opinion is.
it is truly a shame that the Europeans did not have the foresight to realize that they would have been best served by first occupying and then colonizing the entire Levant. Had they been more serious about not just conquering but staying for the long haul they could have changed history and Islam might have petered out centuries ago had there been a determined effort to truly conquer the Levant. We will never know but I am convinced had that strategy been followed the history of the world would be quite different, much better in my opinion, better for the entire world.
