I think one of the best things about your videos is that we are figuring this out together. It's not like your know it all ideological professor telling you what to think. I bet many people that listen are like me, they know a bit and are not ashamed of our part in the crusades but you bring a lot to the table that we can chew over and details together. Just love it!
My college history professor told the class that the crusades were a huge failure, that only the first one worked......thanks for correcting the record.
I look forward to your involvement in a bigger film production regarding the crusades. God knows we need an accurate crusade movie once and for all to debunk all the myths, including the myth of the "Andalusian paradise". Great work!
You don't mention it in this video but some interesting extra info: Prince Edward from the 9th Crusade later in his life becomes Longshanks... the bad King in Brave Heart.
Excellent videos mate! I recently discovered your channel and, as a big history lover, I find them very interesting. I also like your politically incorrect attitude and your ability to point certain facts that a lot of islamofascist apologists in the West run away from.
Great analysis. It all starts degenerating into a bit of a farce from the Papacy of Innocent II, and that's without mentioning the Albigensian business. The 5th crusade being ruined by Pelagius of Albano, and the excommunication of Frederic II during the 6th really show the Church becoming a liability to its own cause. Then you got all the troops directed against the Papacy's internal enemies in the name of 'Crusade', in Italy and Sicily, which indirectly helped the Muslims.
I'm learning a lot from all of you. What do yall think would have happened if there would not have been all the different factions inside the crusaders? My opinion total domination.
+Paul Tokjian This is not how his videos usually are. Trust me I have enjoyed many of his videos. His voice is usually very smooth. He has a little bit of a scratchy sound to his voice, so I am guessing he is doing this video with some sort of illness that is causing problems with his throat. Hence keeping his throat hydrated to bring us this video. Aww, Real Crusades History that is so good of you. I enjoy his videos even if he is under the weather.
I don't know the exact number of years but the crusaders held cypress for a long time correct and cypress was like a safe staging ground for future crusades or am I totally wrong.
Yes he would, he didnt had numbers to beat saladin either but he did lol He would just call in support, but hiss support betrayed and bakstabbed him@@bradical6019
RHC, why did eastern crusades stop at the end of 13th century? Was it because the zeal of Western Christendom declined or is it more like they decided that going directly to Outremer was really a poor way to deal with the Islamic world and investing more in Reconquista and other campaigns was more strategically sound?
the term crusades is based on the term where the catholic church sanctioned the fight. Personally I believe the crusades should be when a religious organization uses their beliefs to attack their neighbors. If that where the meaning of crusades then it never ended. Islam has had a 1400 year crusade that has never ended. Some think it could mean Christians taking up the sword traveling long distances to defend other Christians. If that were the case then the few Christians traveling from different parts of the world to help defend Christians in Syria today would be crusaders.
I very much enjoy your videos. However, I disagree that the crusades were overall a victory for the West. The original purpose of the crusades was to capture the Holy Land. That is the only metric on which you can judge the movements victory conditions long term. What I would say is that the crusades were a huge victory for the West right up until they were expelled.
Glad you enjoy the videos. You seem to be confused about what constituted a crusade. The Crusades were by no means limited to the Holy Land, and to suggest that the outcome in the Holy Land determines whether or not the Crusades were a victory is to misunderstand the history of the Crusades. The Crusades in Spain and Portugal were just as important as the Crusades in Syria and Palestine. There were also Crusades in the Baltic, and later Crusades against the Ottomans. When assessing all of this, the Crusades ultimately victorious for the most part.
Real Crusades History I do understand the wider global context of what the crusading movement encompassed and it's considerable achievements. Indeed many were remarkable. I would just personally say that they ultimately ended in failure as it resulted in the spiritual heart of the West in an uncompromising rulers hands for many centuries. The Baltic and Spanish theatres of conflict were crucial to the people in the countries directly involved but what happened to Jerusalem affected the world. What I very much appreciate about your channel is the context you put the Crusades in. They could be barbaric but the way they have been demonised by our modern sensibilities is a shame. Indeed, we've done far worse things in the last 100 years than the Crusaders or Muslim forces ever did 900 years ago...
F. Moussa They were ver successful. Look at Spain and Portugal, both total defeats for the Mohammedans. Look at the Great Turkish War, in which the Ottomans were totally defeated.

Very true. One of the best things about doing this channel is all the stuff I have learned from all you guys.
My college history professor told the class that the crusades were a huge failure, that only the first one worked......thanks for correcting the record.
Am I ever late to the party! This was a great video! Thanks J Steven!
I love the crusades thanks to everyone that feels the same way.
I look forward to your involvement in a bigger film production regarding the crusades.

Thank you!
I think I have seen most of your videos now. Discovered your channel just today. Great stuff.
I am honored, my friend. Thanks for watching, and please keep me posted on how you're enjoying the videos.

You don't mention it in this video but some interesting extra info: Prince Edward from the 9th Crusade later in his life becomes Longshanks... the bad King in Brave Heart.
if it wasn't for the Crusades, Richard the Lionheart would never have met Robin Hood and made life pleasant for the serfs.

Yeah, while capturing Jerusalem would have been nice, I can see now why some of these crusades were still overall victories. Great videos!
I'm learning a lot from all of you. What do yall think would have happened if there would not have been all the different factions inside the crusaders? My opinion total domination.
Which crusade does the movie Kingdom of Heaven cover?
It takes place roughly from 1183 to 1187, so it falls in between two major Crusades, the Second Crusade (1147-49) and the Third Crusade (1189-1191)
@@RealCrusadesHistory thank you

Don't insult number nine.
There are more than 10, these were just numbered crusades for jerusalem or in it
Thanks
Thanks! I appreciate the support and enthusiasm.
What about the children crusade who died just trying to reach Jerusalem. Its in history.
Were they (the surviving ones, at least) not ultimately captured and sold by slaves by the Muslims in the end?
not crusade lol crusade is called by pope under papal banner, u cant go fight randomly and call it crusade
Would Richard be able to besiege and capture Jerusalem? I dont Know so maybe you guys will?
Correct,he just didn't have the numbers to hold the city etc
Yes he would, he didnt had numbers to beat saladin either but he did lol He would just call in support, but hiss support betrayed and bakstabbed him@@bradical6019

They didn't. They kept going until like the 17th Century, arguably the 18th.
The Second Crusade was not a total defeat. The Christians recaptured Lisbon in Portugal.

Middle east is muslim today. Jerusalem was till 1967 also muslim. So the crusaders were not successful in anything.
F. Moussa They were ver successful. Look at Spain and Portugal, both total defeats for the Mohammedans. Look at the Great Turkish War, in which the Ottomans were totally defeated.
..by that logic jerusalem was captured in 1917 by english lol wym?
All crusades is a FALUIRE bcos GREEDY
