385. Yorkshire Visit Spoilt by Unexpected Incident
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 лют 2024
- I have been in Yorkshire for the last week with Sally. We spent Valentine’s Day together and have been out and about as usual, this time antique hunting, visiting the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and exploring the track bed of an old railway. But sadly, something unexpected happened. I have also visited the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, which will be the subject of a separate vlog.

I'm so sad for your misfortune. Let's hope there's no damages claim for a broken veranda window.
I'm in awe of you close friendships together.
God bless.
Thanks Philip, I'm fairly certain the drone landed in a remote field. It'll be a long while before it's found, if at all. Sally and I do get on really well, as we're well suited to each other. Best wishes.
Hi Alan, Good news its looks like one of our members has found your drone, contact us for more details.
Thank you very much, I have been in touch with Nidge, and Ian, the person who found it and am arranging recovery. Thanks to you and your members for your assistance, it is very much appreciated. All the best.
Alan, do consider joining the Grey Arrows Drone Club …. It’s a great bunch of people, and I have learned a huge amount about drones, and how to fly better, and create better video footage. There is even advice on what to do if your drone is being blown away 😊
So glad you are soon to be reunited 🎉
@@PeteCattell Hi Pete, many thanks for your comment, I have taken your advice and just signed up. Not yet had time to have a look around the site though. All the best Alan
@@MyNarrowboatVenture you will be able to see the folk there discussing your drone :)
@@PeteCattell Thanks Pete. I have just posted a message but it needs to be moderated before publication.
Oh Alan that is sad you lost your drone. And please tell Sally that she is not on her own my husband does exactly the same, but not just crisp packets anything that is paper based. Lovely scenery around where Sally lives. Have great week 😊
Thanks for your concern Sandy. Sally was hoping to hear others do the same, and several viewers do. She knots sweet wrappers, chocolate wrappers, anything that can be knotted. Yorkshire is a lovely county. Thanks for commenting, and enjoy the upcoming weekend 🤠
Evening Alan and Sally, lovely to see you both so well and happy together. So sorry that you lost the drone, but I guess that's just one of the risks you run when flying them. You should ask a manufacturer or drone retailer to do a promotional deal with you. Tell Sally that I'm an inveterate wrapper folder too! Thoroughly enjoyed watching and thank you for sharing..🍷🍷
Evening Steve, Sally and I get on extremely well, thanks for your concern about the drone. That is a good thought but probably difficult to achieve. I do get approached to test some products. Quite a few viewers have said they also knot wrappers. Sally is good with sweet wrappers. All the best, glad you enjoyed watching 🥂
So sorry you lost your drone Alan, hope you have luck in purchasing a new one, I tie nots in sweet wrappers as well as crisp bags Sally so your most certainly not alone. I have done it for as long as i can remember and i am now 75 so there is no hope for me. lol
Hi Malcolm, I received news today that the drone had been found, so I will be getting it back. I’ve published a ‘short’ video today about it, less than a minute. You can find it under Shorts on the channel. So many viewers are knotters as well, Sally is particularly good at sweet wrappers.
So good to see somebody else knots the crips packets. I also do the same with mine. Also I Knott chocolate wrappers 😂
Hi Guys, how are you? Sally knots all sorts of wrappers, she’s particularly good at small sweet wrappers. All the best to you both🤠
i do that with crisp packets too, it makes a lovely toy for my cat who chases it and proudly brings it back to me to throw again just like a dog
Well done Andy. Clever cat. Sally was hoping some viewers did the same and quite a few do. She also knots sweet wrappers.
I do the same as Sally with crisp packets and wrappers off chocolate bars. Like Sally, I can’t help myself, I have to do it and don’t think about it! Sorry about your drone Alan. Great video, as always.
Sally hoped someone might say they do the same. Thanks for your concern about the drone. We’re both very pleased you enjoyed this episode, thanks for commenting.
Don't worry Sally. I do exactly the same with crisp packets! Sorry about the loss of your drone Alan. I seem to remember reading somewhere that if this happens, point the camera downwards, so you can see roughly where it lands. I can understand though, if it comes down in the middle of a field, this will not be much use.
Thanks for your comment and concern about the drone. I didn’t have control of the drone, so someone took pictures of my control screen, so I had an image of where it landed. It was in the middle of a field, has been found and Sally has collected it. I did a’Shorts’ video last week about the find. Many viewers it seems, fold sweet wrappers and crisp packets just like Sally. Cheers
I enjoyed this as i was born in Ilkley but left in 1978 to live on the continent.
Your drone landed not far from the flightpath into
Leeds Bradford Airport which is near the manor Park area by the River wharfe.
Hi Anne, I'm pleased you enjoyed watching, thanks for your comment. I was well outside the flight restriction zone for the airport and no warnings appeared on my flight controller. Some form of interference to the drone is a possibility, as it behaved in an odd way.
15:44 - Yes Sally, I have the same drive to roll up and tie a knot in things that let me do that :-)
A pity you lost the drone, Alan. Besides that, I always enjoy your lovely heritage reporting.
It seems a lot of people like tying knots in wrappers, Sally has been surprised at how many viewers also do it. Thanks for your concern about the drone. I’m pleased you enjoy the heritage side of my vlogs.
Sorry to hear about you losing your drone Alan. When you get your next one had you thought about placing a sticker on it with your name and phone number on. It may never be found but you never know your luck. It didn’t seem to spoil your visit with Sally though, nice to see what you got upto 👍. Have a great weekend, take care mate.
Hi Paul. Thanks for your concern. There is a sticker on the drone with my registration number but no personal details. We’ve had a lovely time together, weather not been too good though. All the best, keep safe🤠
I have often wondered how snowdrops know what time to flower. I have violets in my garden and they also flower now.
I’m not a gardener but snowdrops tend to come out early spring Feb/March time. I think of violets being later but don’t really know.
There are micro EM chips that you can attach to cellphones, key fobs and such. When you press a key on the small handheld transceiver a tone is transmitted that directs you to the object. The range is about 500 feet. If you use a search grid you can fine what you are looking for.
Hi Mark, thanks for that suggestion. Getting some sort of tracking device has been suggested. My concern is the extra weight would put the drone into a different flying category and that the electronics of that device might affect the connection between controller and drone. I'm not into techy things, so I leave it alone. Thankfully, the drone was found 2 miles away and returned to me. I also did a Shorts video on it. Cheers
Glad you got the drone back. I will make sure to land as soon as possible if I get that message. "Experience is a great teacher but she charges high prices".
Thanks Paul. I don’t think you understand that I had no control of the zone, so couldn’t land it.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture ah I see now. That was really bad luck then.
@@PaulGodfreyAll I could do was wait and see what happened, just got to hope it’s still in working condition, it looks unscathed. Cheers
That was an enjoyable video. As a Londoner I really enjoyed seeing the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Thanks.
I’m glad you enjoyed watching and thank you for commenting. All the best.
Awesome video. I do the same with the crisp packet, have done for years .😃😃😃
Many thanks. It seems a lot of viewers do it, Sally is particularly good with sweet wrappers 🤠
Beautiful countryside! Thanks for the video, sure hope by you locate your drone.
Thanks Robin. The drone was found and I now have it back thanks. I did a “Shorts” video and you can see where it was found 2 miles away.
Love Reggie. Chris in Devon.🥰
Thanks Chris 🤠
Ouch Alan !
Surprising that the software does not have " what three words " built in as the last location.
Hope you are both well.
Keep warm dry safe and virus free.
Safe journey travels.
Hi David, it is Chinese, so perhaps not so. We’re fine thanks and hope you are. All the best, take care.
Hi Alan and Sally, you make a lovely couple. Sorry to hear about your drone Alan. Sally, I fold crisp packets into triangles 😂. Reggie is a very cute boy
That’s so kind of you to say, we do get on extremely well. Thanks for your concern about the drone. I wonder how many folds you can make. Reggie is very much a cutie, no problem at all, he’s always very calm.
Thanks Alan andSally for helping to regulate my blood pressure. Cheers!
Hi Eric, you'll be pleased to know the drone was found and I now have it back in working order. I did a 'Shorts' video to let viewers know it had been found. You'll see a Shorts heading on the You Tube channel if you want to watch, it's less than a minute. All the best.
Alan and Sally thank you for taking us along on this beautifully scenic adventure. Please pet Reggie for me. Continued health and safe travels
Thank you so much Ginger. I’m with Reggie now, so have done so. All the best, take care.
Don’t forget! If you go to Ilkley Moor you must go baht 'at!
Nah! I went bah humbug!!
Alan, my role in work significantly involves drones. From reviewing your footage it appears there is a little bit more to it other than just wind. If you want some help/advice in relation to this or any future purchases get in touch and I'd be happy to help. Another lovely video, take care. Nick
Hi Nick, thanks for your comment. I never fly the drone far, though it might appear so to viewers. I always keep it close, as it should be in sight but also as I am fearful of losing it. I was taken aback by what happened and the distance it had travelled. Are you suggesting some sort of interference might have caused it to disappear in the way it did? My thoughts are turning to a cheaper model, it’s the quality of film that’s important to me, not fancy flying tricks. Any advice would be much appreciated. Glad you liked the video, cheers.
So sorry about the drone I was hoping the footage would find it, When I was a breadman for the Co-Op/ Homepride in the 70s I went from Manchester to Buxton in a Ford D 500 the only commercial that overtook me was a Albion Blue Circle flatback it brought back memories. 😊
Thanks for your concern Robert, and for the interesting story about the Albion flatback, sounds like fond memories. All the best.
Thanks Alan and Sally for taking us along on this lovely trip to Skipton, it's beautiful around that part of Yorkshire. I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your drone which you have done some great footage for us on this channel. I hope that you, Sally and Reggie are doing well. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Thanks for your concern Stevie, it’s really annoying to lose the drone, especially as that model looks difficult to replace. We’re all fine thanks and hope you are. Cheers 🤠
Lovely to see you both out and about. Yes Sally I do the knot thing with packets. 😊😊😊😊
Thank you, we do enjoy visiting different places. So many viewers have said they do the same, Sally has been quite surprised by it 😀
Great video Alan, sorry to hear about the Drone as i have the same and as yet no problems. I use an App called UAV Forecast which basically tells you if its safe to fly in the area you are in but sadly due to bad winds and rain lately there's not been much flying time recently. Worth checking out along with Drone Assist to check for no fly areas. And yes Sally i do the same with my crisp packets so your not alone😉
Many thanks Michael. I have just relied on the drone to let me know whether it’s a recommended fly zone, so I’ll look at the apps you mention. It seems many viewers fold and knot their crisp packets and other wrappers. Sally is very good with sweet wrappers. Cheers
I do that with crisp packets too. Sorry to hear about the drone, the countryside it captured was beautiful. Take care both and Reggie.
Sally was hoping others did it as well and it seems many do. Thanks for your concern about the drone, it did capture some good footage but was out of my control. All the best, keep safe.
2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps. Classic. Thank you .
Thanks very much. Cheers 😀
Unfortunate loss of your drone and as you said, those items certainly aren’t cheap. You did a wonderful job flying the drone, but it’s tough to control anything in that wind. Nice to see both of you out and about and just going about the day. Take care
Thanks for your concern Mary Jane, the drone was suddenly, unexpectedly far away and out of my control. We do enjoy getting out and about, all the best, have a lovely weekend.
Ha ha love it when sally tied up the crisp packets. I do it too lol 😂
We’ve discovered a lot of viewers like to do it😃
Hi Alan Sally & Reggie. Sory to here the bloss of the drone Alan but the video today was excellent & hopr you had a nice valentine day.
Take care & keep well.
Hi Bob, thanks for your concern, it was a blow to lose the drone but I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We had a lovely Valentine's Day thank you. Hope you're keeping well, Alan and Sally.
Of course it's none of my business but you never said if you had insurance on your drone I do hope so. From your footage you downloaded Ilkley looked stunning. How nice it was to have a meal with Sally on valentine's Day. All the best to you both. Bye for now. Stephen
Hi Stephen, I don’t have any insurance for the drone. We went to Ilkley specifically to film for the channel because it is a well known and beautiful
area. We hope you’re keeping well. Take care.
Good video Alan, shame about the drone☹, hope you and Sally are well, such a lovely part of England.
Many thanks. We’re both fine thanks Dougie, just upset about the drone. Hope you’re keeping well.
Hi Alan and sally. GG says woof
Hi Kat, Reggie says woof woof! Alan and Sally
With the Chris packet, I thought I was the only person who done that.
Sally thought the same, but loads of viewers have said they do it. Sally is particularly good with sweet wrappers.
Hello Alan mick from Hull really enjoyed this episode hope you are both well and I will look forward to your next episode 😊😊😊
Thank you Mick, glad you enjoyed watching, we’re fine thanks and hope you are🤠
Yep i do the same
Hi Alan same as?? 🤔
Enjoyed the Vlog. i especially love the antique Shop and all those Beautiful Snowdrops gowing up there.Sending love to you both xxx

We both ok Thanks Alan , Hopefully back to the Boat Sunday xx😊
@@carolfieldhouse794That’s good to know. I’ll be back on Sunday as well xx
Enjoyed the vlog, sorry for your loss of your drone.
Thanks Hugh, it’s a real nuisance, having to buy another.
Hope all is well Alan.
Sally and I are both fine thanks. Hope you are.
Enjoyed the walk with you guys. Very interesting. Hope everyone is doing well.
Thanks Timothy, glad you enjoyed watching, Sally and I are both fine thanks, hope you are. Cheers
Nice 1 Alan and Sally…
Thank you so much.
Well now Alan, you sure did choose a wonderful place to visit. Skipton. The views are amazing. Very unfortunate the drone was lost to the wind. Sally, I too fold my crisp packets as you do. I will sometimes make a ball out them as a toy for my pet cat. He loves to chase it around the room. But he's getting on now, almost 17 yrs old. Almost Spring with many beauty spots to visit in Yorkshire. Happy day's 🌄 🖖Was this the setting for All Creatures Great and Small?
Thanks for your concern about the drone. Sally hoped others would do the folding like her but she also knots sweet wrappers. That’s a good age for a cat. All Creatures is filmed at Grassington north of Skipton, and the rural scenes further in to the Yorkshire Dales 🤠
Ok Alan I thought when looking for a drone that’s landed it was best to go to were it landed then search via find my drone? Also I would have pressed the button and faced the camera down to see were it landed a tree bush etc? I bought a second hand Broken pro 3 cost £110 repaired the arms £10 each and a gimble rubbers £8 flys brilliantly
I have a narrow boat at Dunchurch pool marina maybe we’re meet one day 👍
Hi Steve. I don’t think you’re appreciating that I had no control of the drone, I tried to stop filming and take photos but couldn’t. Someone took photos of my screen. When it landed the battery was completely flat, so I couldn’t use the find my drone function. I did though see it come down in the last moments but it was 2 miles away on farmland but I couldn’t pinpoint where on the arc it would have been. You’ve done well to make that repair. Our paths may well cross one day, thanks again for the advice. Cheers Alan
I really enjoyed this one Alan, chocked-full of many interesting and beautiful tidbits. I'm sorry you lost your drone, perhaps by checking the DJI website, there may be some tracking of the drone available. I seem to recall this, or perhaps it was on my phone. I send you all my very best from Avondale, Arizona.
So glad you enjoyed watching Michael, thanks for commenting. I believe this level of drone can only be tracked when it’s powered and in range. Best wishes to you across the pond.
Sorry to hear of your misfortune Alan sel la veh my friend 😮
Thanks but there was a happy outcome, as the drone was found and I got it back. I did a Shorts video on it. Cheers
You might get it returned….if found it’ll have your flyer I’d on it 👍
That’s right but it’s out in the countryside, so not much chance of that happening unfortunately.
All the best to you both.
From Hull, enjoy your coffee or whatever.👍
Hi Charles, thank you so much for your kindness and generosity, your donation is very much appreciated. I have emailed you separately to thank you. All the very best Alan 🤠
Thanks and have a good weekend. 😁
@@charlesxixThank you very much and you.
Hi Alan I wonder if on your next drone could you add a sticker on its underside with your phone number as anyone who finds it could call you or sally as it may have landed safely !!
Hi. There is a sticker on it with my registration number, this being a requirement but it didn’t have my phone number. Next time, it will!
I thought I was the only one who did that with empty crisp packets.
Sally thought she was the only one. She folds chocolate wrappers, small sweet wrappers, anything that can be folded and knotted. From comments received, it seems quite a common pastime.
So sad Alan To think of all the effort to build so many wonderful bridges on the branch lines with
Dr Beaching with a swipe of his pen to close them
Many proud station masters and staff to lose there jobs !!
I fully agree. The problem with the Beeching cuts, was that it was purely looked at from what the railways were losing at that time. There was no consideration to alternatives or looking ahead to the future. If it was loss making, it closed.
Hi Alan have you seen Heidi's campervan adventures in Spain?
Hi Philip. Yes I have watched some, very interesting.
No Sally, you are not the only one who folds crisp packets like that. So do I. It means they take up far less space in the bin.
Hi Alan, it seems lots of viewers do the same, Sally is particularly good at folding small sweet wrappers.
I thought, when I read the title, that something had happened to Reggie! Just a thought, but is there a local fb page, where you could ask people to keep an eye out for your drone. It's such a shame. xx
Hi Jenny. I believe the drone landed in a farmer’s field, so it’s unlikely to be easily found. Thanks for your concern. Reggie is fine thanks xx
Could you contact the farmer, if you know where the field is? xx
@@jennybailey6842I can’t be certain where exactly because it’s a large wide area given the distance away xx
Xx
Cheers
It might be worth reporting the missing drone since the batteries can be quite volatile and could start a fire. Not too sure who you’d report it to though.
Batteries are volatile when they are over charged, the battery was flat when it landed in a field, so there shouldn’t be a risk.
I know nothing about drones - is there drone insurance like you can get for your phone? Maybe the Army has some surplus .
So sad to lose a drone at any time, but just bear in mind, flying a drone down over an area below you as you stand on a hillside means you can easily lose sight of it. Much better next time the drone leaves you on level ground and then line of sight will be easier. Why not watch experienced drone flyers exactly what they do on UA-cam before flying your new drone. They are not throwaway items.
The loss of the drone is much regretted. I understand what you’re saying but when flying from level ground and looking up, it’s not easy to see against the sky. An experienced drone flyer has suggested it may not have been the wind, I assume some other interference is meant.
Agos still sell them for £269 with controller?
I would suggest you buy a mini 3 drone only as your rc controller will work with it? Cost about £349 from places on line like jessops drones direct
Hi Steve, thanks for your suggestion, I have been looking around at different options. The Argos drone is a Mini 2SE, which has less functionality than the Mini 2 hence the lower price. The Mini 3 could be a possibility, the batteries are different, so there would be extra cost there. I can't get over the way the drone disappeared, a professional user suggested it may not have been the wind! Perhaps there was some external interference. I really don't know. Cheers Alan
Sorry about the drone Alan, if someone finds it is there any way they could trace you to return it?
Thanks for your concern Martin. It has my registered number on it, so I could be traced through the Civil Aviation Authority.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture let’s hope you will be lucky 🤞
@@martinworrall5888I’m fairly certain it’s in a farmers field, well out of the town, so I don’t hold much hope, nice thought though.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture well you never know Alan a subscriber could find it, fingers crossed 🤞
@@martinworrall5888That would be an amazing find!! Cheers
Hi Alan. Do you know your flyer ID? How did you place the Flyer ID on your Mini2. Some one in Askwith has found a Mini2 in one of his fields. I tried to search of the Flyer ID on a forum I help manage but it came back with no hits, possibly you’re not a member.
Hi Ian. That's great news, it's certainly in the right sort of location, I had thought it was Middleton way. When it landed, I recall a glimpse of some black cows. I wasn't aware of the forum you mention. This sounds very promising, thank you so much for your help. I've just replied to your PM, cheers Alan.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture I think we're at crossed purposes, Ian is the chap who found it and asked if I could help find the rightful owner. My Name is Nidge and I also wrote on your FB Wall. Hopefully it is your drone, and the footage on the SD card can tell an interesting story.
@@sputniksam Hi Nidge, thank you so much for your help with the drone. At the same time I saw your You Tube comment this morning, I also received a PM direct from Ian and mistakenly thought he was you. I am sorry for this misunderstanding. I gave Ian my ID number and he has confirmed it is my drone and sent me a picture of it. I'm arranging with Ian for Sally to collect it. I have now looked at FB and seen your message and that of Paul Thompson and will respond further there, thanks again for your assistance in putting me back in contact with my drone. Cheers Alan
@@MyNarrowboatVenture I've been more than happy to help where I can and hopefully the drone is unscathed other than a bit of mud. If you have any issues let me know, I've done quite a few repairs for members of the local flying club I a member of. I don't seek fame nor fortune, I'm just happy to keep other's in the air.
From pictures I’ve seen, it appears fine. Thanks again for your help, you may not be aware that I’m in the East Midlands but visit Yorkshire to see my friend Sally. All the best, thanks for the help you’ve given me and others. Cheers
Do you have your name or a registration number on the drone? Maybe someone may find it and give you a call.
My registration number is on the drone, as that is a requirement but no personal details. It landed in a field, so less likely to be found.
Please let us know if someone finds it.@@MyNarrowboatVenture
@@maybelucky2558Will do thanks.
If you show us a sign, please don't shift away from it before we can read it. Can you read faster than us? Best not to show it in the first place.
Some signs have hundreds of words, if you linger, then you have no vlog. Everything has to be balanced to fit in. Everyone reads at a different pace. I will generally do a camera shutter sound, as a warning that the viewer may want to pause. Regular viewers will be familiar with that but too many become overbearing.
I wouldn't brag about the distance the drone was away from you as the codes require that it AL:WAYS be within sight!
An odd interpretation! I did explain about the drone being kept in sight, it was unfortunately taken far away by the wind.
