I stayed at a Wetherspoons Hotel in Whitby

- My first stay at a Wetherspoons Hotel. This is The Angel Hotel on New Quay Road in Whitby.
Bear in mind that my stay was in January, when parking was nearby was easy. Whitby can get extremely busy in the summer season, so prices will probably be higher & parking more limited.

Thanks for the video and lovely review of the hotel. It was so lovely to meet you. Thanks for visiting our amazing town xx ❤
Great to meet you too. I will definitely be returning to Whitby!
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool where are you from? I have stayed in the angel. I go drinking there about 4 times a year.
@@glenshea1967should imagine by the name where he’s from
Yeh £56 not bad, here in NZ , 80 quid, terrible, one night!
@@richardhinchliffe1678haha comedian. When I asked where he was from it didn't have his full user name it's only when I clicked on it the rest came up.
I think whitby is probably the nicest seaside Town of the North of England.
All of UK
Beautiful Whitby lots of history and lots of fish and chips
I stayed 4 nights at Spoons Hotel in Minehead, It was the best hotel I've ever stayed at. The room was really spacious and the bathroom had a walk in shower which is better for me. There were ample hot drinks in the room and the staff even asked me if I wanted more. The wifi was excellent with a good seating area for using my laptop. I'm always up early so breakfast at 7 was a bonus for me. I caught four buses to get there and using my bus pass it only cost me £2 to get there. It was £56 a night so overall a nice cheap holiday in a nice area. I'll certainly be using Spoons hotels again.
I have stayed there and as you say it was a great hotel for a great price, there is no parking but receptionist directed us to local street with free parking.
Weve stayed in the Angel hotel weatherspoons a couple of times steven our room both times was facing the harbour a family room it was lovely & lovely & clean we would stop in the Angel hotel again if ever we go back to whitby the room you stayed in steven was lovely, keep up the good work 👏.
The hotel and bar looked really nice . Am planning a holiday in Whitby Oct 2025 so it was nice to have a look .
Been going there for 50 years my opinion is it’s the best uk place to go for everything
It's a good place to stay, Clean and tidy with nobody else's ornaments and stuff ( Cos that makes my skin crawl).
Don't forget you can use your mug down stairs at the drinks machine for free, just change it for a clean one at the bar then take it back up when your done.😊 It's free for residents.xx
Looks lovely seaside town i heard that Whitby does have best fish and chips
A nice step up from sleeping in the StarBus Steve, I’m glad you’re treating yourself to the finer things in life.
It's good to have a treat, but I slept quite well when in the starbus. Best to do a bit of both.
Whitby Wetherspoons is definitely one of the best in UK, £56 is a bargain.
Shame I never saw you in town, Im lucky enough to live in the town centre 🙌👍
Me too, I work at the hotel and bumped into him in there. Such a friendly guy. Loved chatting with him. 😊
Thanks for your great review and video. I love Whitby. Hope you had the famous fish and chips from a chippy? Lovely room and great location . Really enjoyable video. Thanks again. Looking forward to the next one. Take care.
Looks like Simply Whitby sat in the pub having a pint😃
Top video Sir, I enjoyed Whitby when I went. Magpie Cafe is a must for Fish & Chips! The Weatherspoons hotel looked good!! Robin Hoods Bay…. A little hidden gem! ….. Smithy
Magpie is extortionate. Hadley's is lovely. Over the bridge up from the dolphin pub.
Just watching this video and noticed Simply Whitby sitting there at the 4:15 mark... We enjoyed the video...
Yeah, somebody else mentioned him. I didn’t know about him until I checked his channel & his moustache gave it away.
Whitby is a great day trip for me from Newcastle. I have driven there, but usually travel by train. That Wetherspoon hotel was well presented and seemed good value, I'm almost tempted to give it a go. Whitby is a lot more refined than Blackpool, or even Scarborough - smaller, of course but theres's plenty to explore. You are right about the seagulls, they are after your chips with a vengeance. Thanks for your video.
I agree I'm from Sunderland and go to whitby 4 times a year from a day out to wkends away hope u are well
Hi Steve when you first walked into Angel Simon was in he does vlogs on Whitby his channel is called simpley whitby ❤
Cheers for that. Just subscribed 👍
Id stay there for a couple of nights anytime. Looks really nice Steven.👍
It really was Rachel.
Ooooh so jealous! You'll love going up to the Abbey. It was the inspiration for Bram Stokers Dracula! You could go on a ghost tour there!
You should get the room free for your good opinion of the hotel and the advertising!
holding back the years, simply red was filmed in Whitby, Mick hucknell walks up the 199 steps. I live 30 miles from Whitby in Middlesbrough.
Yes Stephen, beautiful. Definitely be a pleasure to stay in the hotel and holiday in such a scenic view. Swerve the grand completely. Thankyou for showing us.😊❤
🙏
Love Whitby. Amazing atmosphere.
Good memories of holidays in Whitby at the Royal Hotel. Spending most of my pocket money in the arcades within an hour of arriving😅. The harbour was thriving with fishing boats bringing their catch in back then.
Wetherspoons hotels are top quality . me&my 2 sisters had to travel from south wales up to Andover , and we stayed in wetherspoons for the night. it was outstanding, lovely and spotlessly clean .
Hi Steve Whitby looks like a nice place to go for a holiday enjoy your stay in the hotel
I used to at school with someone called Steve Whitby.
I'm staying there for the weekend, 9 to 12 Feb, for the Steampunk weekend. Great video
We live about 20 miles inland from Scarborough, 25 from Whitby and visit both on the Coastliner bus fairly regularly. Being a bigger town, Scarborough has more shops and attractions, especially in summer - while Whitby has the history and atmosphere. The Grand Hotel has seen better days but has lots of potential for a new owner with seriously deep pockets to invest in it. When in Whitby I sometimes have lunch at the Angel Hotel, one of the best Wetherspoons I've been to. It's all very different to Blackpool and the Fylde, I enjoy both really ... watching you visit the Yorkshire coast for the first time reminds me how lucky we are to have it all on the doorstep 🙂
Whitby is beautiful, that hotel is fab for the money.Sad demise at The Grand in Scarborough, when we went the hotel was filthy.Sad as the staff are really nice so I don't know what's gone on there.Thank you for your great videos.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Britannia hotels is what's gone on there ...
I loved this video about Whitby and hope to visit soon. I also love your UA-cam videos on the Wild Side. Keep up the great content.
Must admit we have stayed at quite a few Wetherspoon hotels and never a had a bad experience 😀😀
Absolutely love this hotel, and love Whitby. Will return to Whitby and will definitely be booking the Angel. No brainer !
Great clip my friend wish we could of seen the breakfast.
Chris.
The Angel hotel in Whitby has lovely memories for me. I stayed there a few years ago with my now late husband and we had a lovely weekend. I'm trying to pluck up the courage to stay there on my own sometime. I'm not feeling that brave yet though. We always loved Whitby and would drive down just for a day out. We'd enjoy fish n chips 😊 before heading for home again.
Thanks Anne. Sorry to hear about your loss.
Whitby looks like an amazing place to stay, a nice little seaside town. A great video of Whitby Stephen and the hotel, great value on the hotel, looks like a very nice place to stay, was surprised how glamorous the Weatherspoons hotels are 😊
Love whitby n nice to see ya on ya travels..
We've stopped in Angel twice n can't knock it...modern/clean n tidy...drinks n food on tap at great prices.
Fab Whitby to explore whats not to ❤
I love Whitby. There's a place called 'ye olde pie and mash shop' (or something like that) and it's the most amazingly atmospheric place I have ever eaten in. The history of it is fascinating and the food is gorgeous. Lovely staff as well, it's definitely worth a visit. That's a lovely room, looks very comfy, and a decent price. Scooby Doo, haha! x
We've been to whitby on 2 occasions & visited the pie & mash shop it was absoulutely lovely 💯% & we was full to the brim we love the place definitely recommend the staff are very friendly, if ever we visit whitby again we would definitely pay another visit.
Hi Stephen, Whitby is a lovely place to visit.
The hotel looked good for the money too.
All the best
☕👍
Whitby was my birthplace and home for the first 36 years of my life (left 20 years ago now). This is the "Big A" pub to me, and always will be, with the "Little A" at the top end of Flowergate
Wetherspoons hotels are pretty good, better than other chains like Travelodge.
The food although pub chain food, is better in Spoons than Brewers Fayre and the drinks selection, particularly ale is better and cheaper than all other chains....
That looks a particularly good Wetherspoons!
Looks very nice. The only gripe I would have is that I would have preferred a walk in shower but aside from that, it definitely looks like quality.
Many a happy time spent in Whitby. The town Scarborough and Bridlington would love to be....
Loved this Whitby is a lovely place 😊
Fabulous fish and chips down the side street next to the Angel. Reasonably priced too.
Been waiting for this video Stephen, hope you had a great trip, always loved Whitby cant wait to see the rest of the vlog.
The seagulls are kicking off in Whitby.
😂😂😂
Good to know about the hotel, who knew!
Great video very informative
Thanks
Very reliable Weatherspoons Hotels. I've stayed at Match and Hull. I particularly like how late they serve food for a late arrival.
Looks a lot cleaner & brighter than that shit tip of a hotel in Scarborough.£30 cheaper which will pay for your breakfast & lunch downstairs.Maybe enough left for a couple of beers
Great informative video Steve.Well done....
Far better value. The welcome was much warmer too.
woza mr C Whitby now Mr C your only 45 minutes away from my home have to get further up the east coast Stephen, re Saltburn, Redcar and Seaton Carew, great place Whitby have not been for a while have to put that right great video Mr C looked a great place to stay sir.😶
Walk With Me Tim went to the one in Great Yarmouth... It looked very nice inside, but I've seen some nasty looking rows going on outside in the seating area, so I wouldn't fancy it.
I've not seen it kick off very much at and Wetherspoons, but I suppose there are some where it's more likely, especially at night.
The trick with the card powering the lights is that you can use any card with a magnetic strip on the back, so certain loyalty cards will also power the lights as well, very useful if you don't was to keep re-inserting your room card into the slot every time you enter the room. I know this is the case with Premier Inns and it's probably the same with Wetherspoons.
Loved this episode Stephen, nice room, looked well worth the money, wished you'd shown us the breakfast even if you didn't rate it
GOOD MORNING 🌄 EXCELLENT VIDEO AS USUAL JOHN 🎉😢😮🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
You bagged a bargain there Stephen, looks like a nice place to stay, Whitby is a lovely place too, thanks for sharing another quality vlog 👍
I’ve stayed at a few Wetherspoons Hotels and they’ve always been very good, and great value.
Haven’t seen inside the Whitby one as I live nearby so don’t need to stay over. Whitby itself is rammed in summer, and busy almost all year round.
I'd like to go in summer, but I bet it's a struggle to find a parking space.
Hi I'm watching from Coventry , AND we have 3 Witherspoon in coventry city center. BUT l don't THINK eney ovey them are hotel's. But the food is good value for money .That room looks such good ,take care and all the best. 😊😊👍👍
As the anniversary is looming on the 9th April for the 50th year since the Dr Who exhibition opened, it would be great to have a feature on this. Perhaps a look at the current building where it once stood on 111 Central Promenade. I remember my first visit in the summer of 1974 and being terrified but equally fascinated by seeing the monsters up front. The tardis was the entrance where you paid your fee to go down some steps into the basement. I have often wondered what that building is like now and if still used.
Whitby the jewel in the crown on the Yorkshire Riviera also a fish n chip's paradise 😅
Great video Stephen. I love Whitby, it’s so olde worlde! We regularly go into the Angel when we visit Whitby for our lunch/dinner. As usual the food is good! The room looked lovely and as you said, I think it’s a 100% better than the Grand in Scarborough. Thank you for showing us Stephen, looking forward to your next adventure! xxxx
I’ve been to this hotel for drinks and food lots of times for the usual excellent value Weatherspoon offerings. Much prefer the upstairs bar on the first floor, especially the window seats that open right out with views to the harbour. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to stay at the hotel it looks fab!!
Totally agree!
I stayed there once.Whitby isn't so big and doesn't have so many hotels so prices are often high.I live in southern Co Durham so not too far from Whitby and mainly just go on day trips.
Love Seagulls they are lovely looking birds but can be a bit cheeky sometimes xx
The ship in the harbour is a life size replica of Captain Cook’s Endeavor, it used to live on the river Tees in Stockton until around 2018 when it left for Whitby. Captain Cook was from Middlesbrough.
It's the Grand Turk ship ,sorry not the endeavour😊
thanks Stephen for another great video
Hi Steve I enjoy watching your videos they inspire me as I enjoy travelling love Blackpool and Scarborough, nd whitby I'm there in end of May, I have visited Portsmouth

Beautiful Whitby such a nice place. £56 a night in a Wetherspoons hotel a bargain. Both Walk With Me Tim and The MacMaster have done fish & chips in Whitby. Nice vlog.
Whitby is one of my favourite places on the coast. We used to go 3 or 4 times a year on holiday when i was a kid in the 70s. My mothers ashes are scatterd at the top of the cliffe in St Marys church yard and we go over every Xmas eve to put some flowers on the fence.. Beautiful place. Sandsend just up the coast is also belting and can be reached via the promeade on the beach providing the tide is out. Staithes is a really quaint little village further up the coast. It is usually alot quieter tbf..Very picturesque..You should come over to Whitby for the Goth weekends in April and November. Busy as feck but some real characters knocking about..👍👍
Nice mini holiday 😊😊
Lovely video and hotel is nice.
It’s a great place to visit. Great review thanks. I think any card will work if it fits the slot.
