I hate small talk, so I've found that asking a lot of questions gets them going, and I don't have to do as much of the mental work of thinking of things to say. When they answer, look for ways of asking follow up questions. Definitely contribute to the conversation, but I've found that if you sound interested, most people LOVE to talk.
The thing that I struggle the most while tattooing is talking to the client. I feel kinda weird not saying anything but I just cannot focus on tattooing while talking too much. Anw thank you so much for the tips ❤
One thing on deposits- I've been a wedding photographer for over 10 years and have lots of experience with contracts. Something I learned a long time ago is that in most legal disputes, a "deposit" is for a service that will be performed. If there's no service rendered (the client cancels, etc.), you're on shaky legal ground as to whether you're going to get to keep that deposit or not if they fight you on it. To remedy that, in my contract for photography, it states that if a client cancels on me, there is a penalty in the form of liquidated damages equal to the amount that has already been paid to me.
First off id like to thank all of you who make these videos its been a massive help. Im very very very very new to this and these video's have helped me realize that this is what i want to do with my life. Ive allways done drawing but never took it seriously as i didnt see a way to turn it into a career, now i do and im stoked. My question is should i start practicing the fundamentals and working on fake skin's now before i start a Apprenticeship or hold off. I already have a decent machine (cnc p6) and am just trying to figure out the best way to start, i also have all the gear to practice proper sterilized work (including a autoclave) if you can offer any advice ited be much appreciated thank you for taking the time, and for the awesome videos
If you're looking to get into an apprenticeship I'd say definitely start working on your drawings. Build a solid portfolio of your artwork and tattoo designs. Most of the times, tattoo shops won't really be receptive to you if they find out that you already have been practicing tattooing as they might feel that i'll be difficult to teach you to unlearn 'bad habits' that you might have picked up. Of course this is not to say that every tattoo studio will think this way, and it is highly dependent on the artist you want to apprentice under. Some tattoo shops have no issues if you have been practicing tattooing and are more concerned about if you know all the proper hygiene practices, keeping everything clean and sanitary, you have your BBP certification, knowing how to tear down your station after tattooing, etc. I hope this helped!
Just wanted to say thank you for the videos. They have helped me a lot. Mark Patton. Would like to show some of my work to you. How can I send some pics that I've done . Keep it going brother .
I have to ask because I’ve been hearing about it, can you guys make a video regarding biosensor inks. I’ve tried researching into the subject and so far all I can find is that there were studies done but nothing stating that it’s been approved for the tattoo industry
I feel like the one thing I’m worried about almost as much as making sure I give a great tattoo, is talking to people during the tattoos 😂 (Still learning and working on fake skins) But I’m super shy and awkward so talking to new people is nerve racking for me 😂
Very informative video as always! If the decision was yours, would you rather have conversation with the Client, or focus on your work?? I have nothing against chit chat but I think I'd rather focus on the tattoo. Also, do Tattoo Artists ever reuse a design made for a specific Client? Thanks!!
I'm pretty easy so it really depends on the client. In regards to reusing designs, once I make a flash design and a customer picks em, I do not reuse them
As a client I prefer no to talk much because I feel the artist will do a better tattoo. I also don't mind talking. If we talk I kinda enjoy being eachothers "therapist" 😅
