    In this video, I install my new RVLock Anne gave me as a Christmas present. She purchased it from the company website at www.rvlock.com/collections/fr...
    The install is quick and simple. Converting the RV entrance door handle and lock to a keyless entry system.
    I show you the installation and discuss some of the pros and cons as I see them early on. I'll come back with a video in the summer to update my review.
    RVLock Amazon Link - amzn.to/2qBV8rt (Disclaimer: Amazon Affiliate)
    Likes:
    Better Security - By swapping out the OEM door handle, I'm getting rid of the OEM locks. I've never had a lot of trust in these. I've heard many stories of RVers being able to open each others RVs. I've read there is a master key used by the RV lots for the top lock. I know for instance the storage bays CH751 keys are all the same. It's one reason I changed those locks out a few years ago.
    Keyless Access - Access using the keypad or fob will be super convenient. No more worrying about having the key when leaving the RV. Will be great in the event of an emergency to let someone in by emailing, texting or telephoning the code. We sometimes need to leave our dog inside the rig. It will be nice if we ever get delayed returning for some reason to be able to call someone to let her out.
    Easy to Install - On my Cougar fifth wheel trailer installation only took 5-10 minutes using a Philips and Robertson (square head) screwdriver.
    Simple Programming - Programming the fob and entry code was straightforward and quick.
    Common Batteries - I liked that it uses inexpensive and readily attainable AA batteries.
    Looks Nice - I find it to be quite stylish looking. An improvement over the original factory installed handle
    Dislikes:
    Expensive - The RVLock V4.0 is currently $239 USD
    Included Only One Key Fob - The majority of full-time RVers I know are a couple or family. I'm sure fobs are cheap when making them in bulk. Adding a second to this premium priced product would be appreciated. Even if the owner is single, a spare fob is always good to have.
    Flimsy Feeling Inside Handle - I don't give high marks to the inside handle design. It's made of plastic versus metal and the grip used to close the door is rather shallow. I get some flexing when pulling hard on it. My concern is over time the plastic will get brittle, and it may break when pulling hard or catching the door during a wind gust.
    Beep Is Too LOUD - I realize that some form of audio indicator is useful for programming and such, but it's too loud in my opinion. Maybe a sound level control can be built in or an optional light indicator. I'm an early riser and don't like to disturb my neighbors or wake my wife. In many RV parks, you are right on top of each other. Guess I'll have to use a key even with my keyless entry unless I mod it myself.
    Keypad - It has sort has sort of a cheap plastic feel to it. I hope it doesn't crack after sun exposure and long-term use.

    The battery life on our factory installed lock of the same part number on our Lance Travel Trailer has been about a year and seems to perform well in day to day use. We never use the key fob much, but have it on our spare keyset that we use when Stella, our Beagle, has a guest dog walker for when we go on overnight excursions away from the campground. We would never have bought this lock if it were not already installed, but it has performed well. If ever we are coming home after the quiet hour period we just use our manual key to open and close it - then there is no loud chirp. The purpose of the loud chirp is to discourage would-be burglars, but we have not ever had any burglars in 8 years of full-timing except for the time in 2014 when someone stole the running boards from our 2012 F-350 dually KingRanch while our Lance truck camper was still on the truck. We had gone up to see mom in the hospital overnight and when we came back two days later I noticed it was difficult to step up into the truck. After speaking with the Sheriff Deputy, we now carry two $100 game cameras with us that we mount in opposite corners of our campsite and so far have not had anything but raccoon burglars come to see us overnight since, LOL. We will let you know if we have any lock performance issues on our end for comparison.

    One of the best things I added to the rig. I just leave the fob in the truck and unlock when arriving back to the campsite. Another great video review. I picked it up on a black Friday sale. The discount was significant and they do sell the remotes seperately.

    I am a full time RV’er, I have had one of these for almost two years. I must say it gets used multiple times per day flawlessly. Unbelievably I am still on the original batteries. I highly recommend this since my wife locked herself out twice while I was out of town.

    I installed my RV Lock two years ago and I love it! is great for when my wife and I leave the RV and the kids go their own way. They can come back when we are gone and still get in. It has held up very well. The plastic interior pieces worried me, too but no problems so far. The range on the FOB is great, too.

    Good review. We really love ours, I need to get a second one for our second entry door on our rig but I’ll need to call RV Lock to make sure they send me one with the same key so it would be keyed the same as the first one. Then we will have two key FOB’s also.

    We've had ours almost a year and love the lock. Don't have to worry about kids loosing keys anymore. For this last CHRISTmas we bought another one for the back door on our Toy Hauler. Think you will like it once you get some time with it.

    I installed two of these on my Fuzion toy hauler (black Friday deal was too good to pass up!). It's nice having one key and one fob for both doors. As for the beeping, I recall reading somewhere that it is possible to mute it. Best bet would be to contact RVlock's support folks.

      RVLock handles have a "Silent Mode" feature which enables you to kill the sound. All you have to do is hold down the "1" button for 5 seconds and handle works like normal, but with NO beeps. Hold down the "1" again to bring the sound back.

    Just ordered a set with the 30% off Memorial day discount so got it for $168 delivered. Not too bad. I keep my RV at my house plugged in and go in and out a lot all month long so it will be nice not to have the keys every time I want to lock or unlock it. I can just hit the code and be happy! Great video, Ray, thanks!! Just as an idea, you might think about using the remote most often rather than not using it much at all. Reasoning behind this idea is this could potentially minimize any excess wear on the keypad, possibly giving it a longer life before the vinyl keypad began to show signs of wear. The switch on the inside could be turned off at night for security in case you had that concern of someone stumbling on your site with nefarious intentions. Overall, great video and we really appreciate all your content. Did get a chuckle when you gave the camera the sheepish look when bringing out the powered screwdriver! :-)

    I installed these on both mine and my parents' 5th Wheels a little over a year ago and they have been fantastic. It is definitely one of my top 5 trailer mods that I have done. The only issue we have had is the face of the keypad started to crack on my parents' lock, they called the company and they shipped out a replacement face for the keypad right away.

    Nice I like it, I hear you on fumbling with keys when your hands are full. I have been thinking about one of thee for a while now.
    I agree that beep could be really annoying epically if you come in late one night and your rig is close to someone else’s in a tight spaced campground. It would be nice if that could be turned off.
    It will be most interesting to see how you feel about this upgrade after you have had time to use it for a while.

    I bought one on EBay, brand new, with the same "RV Lock" embossed on it like yours, from China and I paid $136 w/ free shipping. I also purchased an extra Fob on Ebay for $26 w/free shipping. So far we like ours, we are going on a two week camping trip in a week so we'll give it a better workout. By the way we have the 'Grab Bars' on our screen doors and almost never use the door latch to close the door, you may want to check them out. If you are close to Quartzsite you can pick one up there!! Happy Camping!!

      It looks to me that RVLock is just buying from a Chinese company and getting their badge added, so I bet the true price is much lower than what I paid. Mostly paying for the marketing and shipping and warranty I guess. - This looks like the true manufacturer www.eazylift.hk/index.php?m=content&c=index&a=show&catid=14&id=7 www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Keyless-lock-motorhome-keyless-RV-lock_60636153444.html

      It looks like with Alibaba you have a minimum order size for their $50 per lock. Here's a lick to the guy I bought from on Ebay. And when you purchase from RV Lock I would guess you get a fairly good warrant. Also if I had ordered the lock when I purchased the trailer it would have cost me $900, so the markup has no end. That's why I purchased the trailer with very few option and I am installing them myself for a fraction of the dealer price. Thanks for your time and channel.

    We love ours I installed on the truck camper, don't know how we lived without it. My only gripe is while the numbers light up in the dark, they do not do so until you depress a number which might be the wrong one. Be nice if it glowed in the dark or there was a button to light them up. otherwise a great lock.

    I reached out to RVLock about the sound. I hate when car doors lock and unlock tones go off at campgrounds. It can get pretty annoying. They responded to me that they now have a muting capability. I will most likely be ordering in the coming weeks now. I wasn't going to just because of the sound. I will be ordering 2 so I can get them keyed a like. I have to decide if I want to do storage compartments at the same time so everything can be keyed alike. • @jordanspeth7387
    @jordanspeth7387 6 років тому +1

    Nearly all of the newer RVLock V4 handles have a "silence mode". By holding down the 1 button for 5 seconds, you can silence the beeps of the handle, which works great for RV Parks. Simply hold down the 1 button again to engage the sound. The handle also has what's called the "QuickLock" feature. If you hold the Lock button down for 2 seconds it automatically engages the deadbolt and locks your handle without needing to enter your password, thus extending keypad life.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 років тому

      Thanks. It would be nice if using the keypad the beep volume level could be programmed, or maybe it can but isn't a published feature? In silent mode does the low battery warning still work?

    • @jordanspeth7387
      @jordanspeth7387 6 років тому

      As far as I know, the sound is all one system. The beeps on the keypad can't be programmed separately, it's more you either get the sound or you don't. But as far as letting you know when the batteries are low, yes! It still does. Instead of a series of beeps letting you know the batteries are low, after you hit the lock/unlock button there will be a pause before the deadbolt actually moves.
      Sorry that took so long to reply. I had to look into that and see with my own handle.

  • @richard3365
    @richard3365 6 років тому

    Also, my understanding of these types of locks (they make them for "brick-and-mortar" houses as well) is that you mainly use the fob or key, and the code is meant for temporary use only. For example, have somebody walk your dog while you're gone then change the code when you get home, even if this means you have to give the other person a new code every day. This prevents 1: somebody remembering/learning the code and using it later when you aren't expecting them, and 2: wear-and-tear of the buttons that could give intruders a better guess at your code.

    • @LoveYourRV

  • @stwicks77
    @stwicks77 6 років тому +1

    hi Ray. Love your channel. I installed this on my rig and one thing I dont like, when you collapse your handle/hand rail for steps, the added thickness of the door lock on the outside hits the hand rail so it wont sit flush to the door when traveling. I had the same unit on my older rig and the hand rail was mounted a little higher up so it did not hit the door lock handle. It looks like yours might hit and you'll know what i mean.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 років тому

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, never noticed but there is a clearance issue but we don't fold the grab handle that way, we fold the opposite way towards the back of the RV. I guess if a person wanted to fold it across the door they could add a shim plate to the back of the grab handle mount. But in a way, it's a safety enhancement as a prankster couldn't trap you inside with the grab handle. Cheers, Ray

      Q. Are RVLock handles keyed alike?All of RVLock Handles (keyless and mechanical) can be keyed alike. If multiple handles are ordered in a single transaction at RVLock.com, they will automatically be keyed alike for your convenience. If handles are bought on different occasions/transactions they will not be keyed alike. Customer service can explain keyed alike options based on your specific handle arrangement: 888-316-9899

    • @richard3365
      @richard3365 6 років тому

      The only real way (unless they have something built in allowing you to reprogram the beeping) is to dismantle it all the way down until you find the speaker itself (it'll usually look like a very tiny black flat circle with a silver dot in the center) and use a soldering iron to remove it from the circuit board. It won't affect anything else, it'll just turn off the sound.

  • @rkwill100

    the door is styrofoam and very thin aluminum.
    The door frame is very thin metal.
    So, of what earthly good is some heavy duty door handler/lock?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 років тому

      Locks are only there to help keep normally honest people honest and prove to the insurance company it was a break in. Pretty useless against real criminals. Being heavy duty is more for not wearing out with daily use as full-timers than stopping break-ins from determined thieves. Cheers Ray

    • @richard3365
      @richard3365 6 років тому

      If the beeping is the only deal breaker, you can open up the device until you find the speaker, and use a soldering iron to remove it from the circuit board. Literally the only thing this will affect is it is now silent (plus you've modified it so you probably voided your warranty, if it has one), and probably only took about an extra 10-15 minutes to install.

    I did some research on locks before I bought my 5th wheel. It showed signs of being broken into at some point while it was owned by one of its two previous owners. There were pry marks on the door edge and the window door glass had been broken and replaced. Apparently, the thieves could not pry the door open and simply broke the glass, cut the screen, and reached through to unlock the door from the inside by the thumb latch. A far better way to secure your RV is to use a good home type deadbolt lock (bump key resistant) which is keyed inside and held together with tamper-resistant screws. If thieves break the window they will not be able to unlock the door from the inside without a key. The normal RV lock and handle is still used on the door when this deadbolt security is not needed. I have seen this arrangement used on many trailers and RV's. It may not be as pretty, but it is better.

    • @robertfoster8500
      @robertfoster8500 6 років тому +1

      My 5th wheel came with this exact lock Ray just installed. While in storage, thieves broke a window and entered my trailer. But because I always use the key and lock both locks, once inside my trailer, they could not open the door. You see, you can open the deadbolt from inside but you can’t open the door latch from the inside if the key was used to lock it from the outside. That it why I do not use the electronic portion of this lock because that only locks the deadbolt. I use keys and lock both. This practice saved my televisions cuz the scum that broke in, couldn’t get the tv’s out!

    • @thomaslevy2119
      @thomaslevy2119 6 років тому +1

      True. Two locks are always better than one. However, if the thieves were smart (most aren't), and had enough time, they could have just taken the lock apart while they were inside and unlocked it. That is where tamper-resistant screws come in. Ordinary screws can be made tamper-resistant simply by drilling the screw slots off the heads of Phillips screws. However, you may need a screw extractor to remove the screws if you ever plan to change the lock.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 років тому +2

      Break one of the emergency exit windows, unlatch the red levers and enter, another is to rip off a roof vent and send in the skinny thief first. Also, looking at the door it's nothing a large crowbar couldn't pop in seconds. My trailers frame is aluminum stud
      I don't see practical any way of stopping real criminals since RVs are so flimsy but a locked door at least shows its a legally a break-in for insurance and a little-improved security isn't a bad thing to stop normally honest folks in the campground or kids messing around. Cheers! Ray

    • @thomaslevy2119
      @thomaslevy2119 6 років тому +1

      Also true. However, a better, double-keyed deadbolt lock on the door can discourage potential break-ins, especially when an RV is parked in a storage lot having little security. Anything that causes thieves to work harder or take more time to break into (or get out of with their loot) may make them look for another RV that is easier to open, sparing yours. As the old saying goes, "Locks just help honest people to stay honest."

      You most likely need a new circuit board. RVLock has a great customer support center if you call 1 (888) 316-9899, and they can give you a few tips. Make sure there isn't any corrosion near the batteries as this will also affect battery life. But I'd be surprised if a new circuit board didn't solve the problem.

    • @richard3365
      @richard3365 6 років тому

      Most devices that I've had any experience with, the speaker is a tiny device about the size of a dime, and it doesn't really have any "wires" you can cut (it does have "wires", but they're only about 1/8 inch long and in a position where wire cutters probably won't fit), but it is soldered directly into the circuit board. Still, a soldering iron (with a pencil tip, not those gigantic gun things) would remove it in just a few seconds without damaging anything else.

    It is expensive, especially considering I bought a Viper alarm for my truck, with remote start, for less than $200. And it came with two key fobs and a 1 mile range. These are certainly overpriced, especially considering the cheap plastic backing and the single key fob.

      I just make sure to lock the rig with something so when a break in happens I can file my insurance claim and keep kids and relatively honest people out. From what I understand the RVLOCK has many more key combinations than the OEM so much more unlikely for a camper next to you having the same key as your rigs door. Cheers, Ray
