FYI… I just traveled on a FAST trip Atlanta to Palm Springs, stopped ONLY AT TRUCK STOPS. My power 50 amp 30 ft long was stolen out of a unlocked compartment . I will be ordering these ASAP. I WANT YOU to know I had remembered your old video, on this product.
This is a perfect example of how YOU GUYS help all of us. THANK YOU

The weak point is the seal between the keypad and door. It failed on mine. The lock started unlocking itself. Still going back and forth with RVlock. So glad we kept our old lock.

Mine was a pain to install, first I had to grind down the latch metal because it was catching and wouldn’t go back out, then the door wouldn’t close because it kept catching on the frame, then the door wouldn’t latch when closed, good ol hammer encouraged it all to work together..

In the last 1 ½ years I have had to change my Latch-it door latch 3 times for a known defect! The key will not insert in to the lock. I’m lucky I have a toy hauler, in each case when I get inside my RV I could not turn the deadbolt lever at all. Latch-it knows about this problem and now you cannot call them on the phone any more. I hope if you have a Latch-it door latch I hope you have a comfortable truck or another way in to your RV you more than likely will need it. I went with RV lock v4 this time so far so good.

Thanx for review. I wasn't aware of the baggage lock handles and the multiple function lock remote. I purchased one door a few days ago and will install it today. Our fifth wheel is set up on our land about an hour away. One day we were driving up to the rv when my wife asked if I had the key. I didn't and we turned around and decided to stay home that day. This locked would have helped!

We've heard many lost key stories also... The baggage doors can be tricky so make sure you try those out before your return window closes - in case you need to send them back. 👍🏼

*I put one of these in my 2012 Heartland Elkhart Express, My German shepherd who is too smart for his own good has figured out how to both disable the keyfob and unlock and open the door. I've been locked out once because i also lock the handle to keep people out. Then i bought a 2011 Heartland Big Country that's more like yours and it has 4 bay door slam locks that i got no key for. i will be buying the bay door slam locks too but they are $180.00 each. As if everything else wasn't already expensive enough on these things. I am repairing the damage my shepherd caused on the Elkhart express (ripped the screen and shredded the blind by the back door) then selling it to pour that money back into paying off the big country, I SERIOUSLY needed a bigger shower, hell an ACTUAL bathroom. I just got the bonus i hadn't counted on that the Big Country also had laundry hookups in the rather large front Master bedroom closet. so yeah lots more room but i still have to see if i can even use that RV because the night i brought it home i got stuck in a ditch and spent 11 hours waiting on Good Sam roadside assistance to find someone to tow me out and they brought a big rig wrecker and snapped the spring perch on my rear axle and repairs are bound to be REALLY costly. once it's repaired though I will be ready to move into that one, clean up this one and get it sold and start sinking money into the other one again. i realize it's an on going process when you live in it full time but thankfully i won't be traveling all the time with mine. My late wife lost our home of 20 years due to her ex meddling and i have been living in this elkhart express for the last 5 months now. i am only able to stay afloat because i work a 40 hour week and that was suplimented by a small sum of life insurance when she passed. I'm not rich or even well off but i'm dong ok right now still. hoping your code is still good for the two bay door slam latches I need 4 new latches but 3 of the 4 will be the electronic ones. I have a locking hose storage door, single latch through door (basement) and dual locks on the front side of the pass through basement. I am considering solar eventually also for my pass through bay which is the only real reason i am considering digital bay locks solar should supliment if not replace my monthly electric bill i'm hoping though with it being a 50 amp RV that's going to take some doing*

Our issue was not forgetting the key but having too many keys and too many master keys available online. We have Global Link locks on the main doors (a different key for the front and rear door), Bauer locks on the baggage compartment doors and a CH751 key on the sewer parts door. You can buy master keys for the Global Link, the Bauer and everyone has a CH751 key. So we looked into just replacing the lock core or cylinders. I found a place online and. replaced the 2 cylinders on the front door, The 2 cylinders on the rear door and the CH751 lock on the sewer parts door in approx. 8 minutes total and for under $75. All 5 locks are keyed the same and have no master key. I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do on the Bauer locks on the baggage doors but that will hopefully be simple as well.

Great video, just wish my experience went so well.... Ordered mine over the winter period and did not get a chance to install until spring (Live in NH, waste deep snow). So it was not until April I got to install it, and it was definitely not a ten minute job. In my RF the cutout was not a good alignment, it was up the door frame by about 1/4 an inch. Which made it so the RVLock would not align up with the side holes. Contacted their support and verified I had the right lock for my Leprechaun. They got back with me quickly and confirmed. I ended up cutting out the door just enough to get the holes to align. Luckily the RVLock is larger then the original lock and covered the hole well. But that is not the end of the story. I followed the directions, and when I connected the two parts together electrically, noticed the "BEEP" that was supposed to happen, didn't. Took it all apart and when I opened up the battery compartment, found one of the already installed batteries had exploded, and corroded the connections. I replaced the batteries and cleaned the connections, but to no avail, there was no function to the electronics. At this point after cutting out the door, no way I could back out. After getting it all screwed together I went to put the red handle on the lock that I "thought" was just setting in the box for install after getting it together, and that is when I found out it was actually broke off, and the base was broke off on the inside of the base... I contacted support again, explained the various problems. Their answer is to send me a replacement battery compartment / inside part, no the electronics portion. Which I am not convinced will fix the electronics problem, but understand the theory. In their defense they have been responsive every time I emailed them, and supported their product even though I had actually bought i months before actually installing it. The hole mis-alignment is not really their fault, but that is more on the manufacturer. But like you said in the video, so things don't go as planned and you have to work around them...

I have the same problem with the paint around the door handles on my 2020 Momentum 397TH as you did. I went ahead and installed the RV locks anyways and I ordered the gasket kits and I'll add those later. You mention @3:49 about reaching out to GD - apparently it costs too much or the paint shop didn't get the memo.

    • @ChangingLanes

Excellent video review of RVLocks keyless system. We been using RVLocks for 2+ years and love the keyless entry. We have a full body painted Redwood and have the same issue with the manufacturer not removing the door handle prior to painting. So now we have a similar paint gap between the old door handle and the new RVLock. Thanks for the product review.

    • @BruceS42
      @BruceS42 5 років тому

At first that sounded like some really lazy paint work, but then I realized it takes more time and work to correctly tape off the door handle than it does to remove it before painting and reinstall after. So it sounds like just incompetent paint work. That's the sort of thing I've heard about Maaco. Not what you expect on an expensive RV.

BTW, GD did not heed your advise, they are still taping off the door locks, so it's still an issue with the paint. :( Oh and BTW the new baggage doors (2022 Momentum 376THS) RVLock does not have locks for the lock styles for the baggage doors. Apparently GD changed the lock designs used and RVLock has not caught up with the change.

There is a great convenience to not having a handful of keys. The only downside is you will still need a key if the batteries go dead.

The unit will warn you when batteries are getting low, well before they become too low to operate... 👍🏽

I’d get some real electronic locks. Setup a UniFi (Ubiquiti) dream machine pro or their new wall model which acts as your router as well as controller for their access platform. Put electronic door readers on the outside that also act as video doorbells and security cameras. Use magnetic door locks or electronic bolt locks. That would really secure the door. And for the lower bays, I’d love to have a rig with no handles and locks. Just have a internal clamp lock that is electronic. Hook that up to the UniFi access system. You could do a series of doors together. To unlock use your phone or code or rfid. Or use a standalone access system from Hikvision. They have door screens that face facial recognition so all you’d have to do is look at the screen and door opens. That might be a better option. Cheaper and lower power draw. They have backup batteries too. But I don’t think you’d have issues with all the solar and lipo batts. You’d have one Hikvision access panel you’d run locks to each bay and each door. And rfid readers to each door or screens. Or maybe a apple HomeKit system and you could buy $5 eWeLink WiFi relays to lock and unlock each door. Then integrate that into HomeKit via homebridge. Run it on a raspberrry pi. Have HomeKit secure video for security cameras. Though the all in one UniFi UDM pro system where it’s your internet router, poe switch, access controller and security camera NVR in one U of rack space for $379. Get four of their cameras for the outside and their video doorbell. Get one access point for inside and one for outside. You’d have WiFi for 500ft in every direction. That’s about 100 watts. 4 watts per cameras. 4-5 watts per AP. Then use scrypted to integrate UniFis cameras and doorbell into apple HomeKit.
Yeah I’d do that. Using unifis access would be sweet on a RV as long as you had solar and a decent battery bank.
And UniFi has add on manual key overrides if needed.

A couple of suggestions. Strike plates are hit with pressure each time you close/slam the hatch. This will tend to cause the plate to want to move the plate toward the back of the opening making harder to latch the door the next time. Either a SS star washer and/or some epoxy like JB Weld should help prevent that and the fasteners from backing out. I'd suggest both. Just remember the JB Weld will make it harder to remove the parts if replacement is required later.
I really enjoy your videos. Great information and also great information and production by your wife!

Good product review & install. I like the lock all feature. The missing paint around the locks bugs me, would expect higher fit & finish quality from GD. Looking forward to your next vid.

I don't think they knew it was an issue till I brought it to their attention. Going to follow back up with them and see if they've resolved that with their paint shop. They don't paint them in house.

I like it but if you drop a key fob.
All someone has to do is walk around hutting the button. Once they hear the lock they know whos trailer they can get in.

RVLock doesn't make them for the new Lippert pull style door handles/locks. They told me it wasn't worth it for them to do so when I called to inquire about purchasing them.
