    The 5050UB is just as good as a true 4k projector, and even better than many. It is a beast.

  • @TomlinsonHolman52583

    There is no native 4K, or pixel-shifting 4K projector at this price-point that can compete with the Epson 5050ub's deep blacks, 3-chip HDR-10 color, and lumen output. The 5050ub also has the best placement flexibility at its price-point, and an all-glass 15-element Japanese lens assembly with precise mechanical zoom, focus, and lens-shift. Overall this projector cannot be bested at its price-point.

      @@jimcameron1234 - The Sony VPL-VW270ES is a great projector but it doesn't have enough lumen output (1500-lumens) to deliver true HDR. The Epson 5050ub has great HDR-10 capability with 2600-lumens for much higher nit-peaks, and is $2000 less (list price). True HDR is much more important than true 4K vs e-Shift 4K.

    EVERYONE entering into home theatre/Projection for the first time has exactly this same experience you are having now............
    1. What type & what quality projector can i afford?
    2. What screen will fit in my room?
    3. An extra long 4K ready HDMI lead costs How Much! are you freakin joking.
    4. All this HDMI/Speaker & power cabling is bloody mess and needs hiding better.
    5. Fiddle with the settings for months then Darken the room as much as possible.
    It was the same for me to.

    The fan and heat that you talk about wouldn’t be s problem IF it’s properly mounted on a ceiling. That room is just not for that projector . You would be better off with a large OLED. That projector is for a true HT. I just don’t see how you can give a proper review in such a small space.

    • @JeffRauseo
      @JeffRauseo  5 років тому +2

      That’s fair but it works in my room just fine. I think I have a unique perspective based on a typical room size that many people might have. The colors and picture quality doesnt change much just because it’s a smaller room, it’s still a fair review.

    • @jr62inhometheater98
      @jr62inhometheater98 5 років тому +1

      Films At Home I will have really disagree on the point of the picture not being different because of the room size. The larger the room and screen size the more light affects the color and brightness. You have light reflection off walls ceiling and the screen in a larger room. Which almost all people have in a home theater. Not a little space as you have. I am not trying to criticize you, but to give a accurate review the projector should be in a room size that reflects more of the norm. I still believe you would have a better experience with a large flat panel TV for the size and distance of your space.

    • @JeffRauseo
      @JeffRauseo  5 років тому +1

      JR62InHomeTheater I would agree. But Epson asked me to try it in this room and so I gave it a go. It’s a different perspective than many people might have so I think that’s what’s interesting.

    You never mention how far your lens is from your screen? That would have answered a ton of questions my wife & I are having. Thx

  • @2Timothy2.15
    @2Timothy2.15 5 років тому +3

    You'd have needed a fixed frame against the wall to fill the screen. As for another projector, I'm not aware of any other make/model that would have given you the lens shifting, brightness & contrast that would have filled the screen at your throw distance. The limiting factor was the room itself and ideally a fixed frame would have been the better way to go in your case.
    As for pixel shifting vs true 4K, contrast and brightness will always trump resolution. A "true 4K" (1080p x 4 pixel shifter) that's smaller and cheaper would mean DLP, but with an inferior black floor, inferior contrast, inferior placement flexibility and a possible rainbow effect. A native 4K projector, like the latest JVC or Sony models, means 2 or 3 times the price for a better black floor and full 4K resolution, but with less placement flexibility and less brightness and lamps that cost significantly more to replace.
    Despite the limitations of your room, the 5050UB would have ultimately still been the best projector for you, providing the best balance of the good, the bad and the ugly.

    You know even coming from a tcl Dolby vision tv this projector is not half bad. I can see the HDR 10 wonderfully especially in bright scenes. Gonna likely use a CinemaScope screen in my small theater. I don’t want to spend $10,000 just for the speaker system. Just affordable speakers 🔊 behind the screen. Can’t do that with a tv unless you go all in on Samsung. And the aspect ratio is what movies 🍿 are all about. That CinemaScope baby.

    What I have read is the Epsom gives very good value for money. Yes 4k Sony JVC etc are true 4k but you pay a lot more for it too. Basic Sony 4k in the UK where I am is £5000 much more than the Epsom. Thanks for the video.

    I guess the only solution with the extra white screen on the sides is to reinstall the screen and push it back as far as it can go. I had a similar issue with my screen, mine is a 120". It had like an inch of screen on each side but because my screen and projector was as far back as it can go, I had to use black duck tape on both sides of the screen to mask it. I believe they have special black tape for screens but the duck tape worked fine for me :P. I have an Epson EH-TW8000. Love it!!

    Picture quality is great no doubt when it works, but Epson projectors are garbage now. Would recommend a JVC or Sony. Bought an Epson projector (5040UB) in March 2018, exactly 3 years later I’m on my 5th Epson projector (under warranty). I was upgraded to a 5050UB due to all the failures from the 5040UB. The 5050UB is no different. I’m sure this 5th one will die out on me in a few month. Will buy a JVC then. The older Epson used to be reliable. Not these eshift 4K BS.

    Dude I can't believe you didn't measure the throw distance from projector to screen before mounting the screen. That is something you do before even purchasing your screen. If you're unsure if the screen might be too big, shine the image on the wall, measure max size, then purchase only when you are 100%. Some people purchase a very cheap and nasty pull down screen for doing a trial run before buying an expensive motorised Stewart or Elite screen. Its always better to go slightly smaller when you're thinking of going as big as you can go. Newbies always want the biggest screen they can have first time out, its not so bad going slightly smaller.
    If you want to fill your screen there is a way by adding a lens over your current lens. It doesn't have to cost much if you do a D.I.Y option. Look up a guy on UA-cam who has a projector lens tutorial his name escapes me Home Theatre Guy channel or something he will show you how to make your projector think its moved back without actually physically moving it back and thereby solving your size issue.

    This projector is not even a "true" faux 4k :). It only shifts an additional 1080p image creating around of 4 mil pixels. I'd say a 1440p. On larges screens it lacks the sharpness other pjs are offering. I'm surprise with the price point of this series, especially for the 6050 which i consider as overpriced. You can go with the jvc x7900 for a bit more money.

      Everybody has a "better projector" advice but again people for the the epson 5050ub or 6050 for its price honestly cant be beat. The jvc x7900 is discontinued and when it was viable it sold for close to 4 grand and still didnt have a good as blacks. Lol! I just dont understand all these "the (fill in the blank) for way more money is a better projector!! No shit sherlock! Lol . That's what usually happens if you spend more money you sometimes get better quality! Duh!! The epson 5050ub that sells for 2700 dollars as of now cant be beat for what you get. You get a very good projector that has an excellent picture and let's not forget that when you need a new lamp or bulb it wont break the bank! The lamp replacement for the jvc you speak of cost almost 3 times as much as the epson.

      You might want to look up the numerous resolution analysis of “faux-k”. I’ll give you a hint: raw resolution is pretty much a non factor for 4K, with the actual biggest perceived differences coming from other aspects, specifically color reproduction, lens assembly, contrast ability, and HDR implementation.

      Ohhh, ofc that I knew what I was talking about. I had the Epson PJ at home, for two weeks. At that time its cost was £2650 while I paid £2900 for a brand new Sony 360es, 2 months earlier. I tested them both, and i can safely say that the Sony destroyed the Epson in terms of sharpness on my 126" DE abyss screen. I forgot to mention that im mostly into gaming. Heck, even the upscaled 1080p from nvidia shield looked better. Even the enhancements from the Marseille cable, gaming edition looked better. Yes, there are zillions of factors in play, which make sense and recommend Epson as a good deal. But stop BSing me, that 8 mil real pixels vs half faux 4k, does not matter on a 130" screen.
