Greetings from Baldock England. On the 9th of June 1969, I started my apprenticeship in carpentry, in my hometown of Mullingar Ireland. My great memory was a Leibheer Luffer tower crane set up on rail tracks, whilst very basic in its German engineering design, it was really fit for purpose. How the company has evolved in the years since. BR Valentine Shanley retired project manager!
A greatly appreciated Industrial employer and innovator in Ireland! I can remember the first time I came across the Liebherr name. It was on a huge Liebherr Air Conditioning Plant in the Computer Systems Dept, cooling Digital Equipment Company VAX's , MicroVax's , 11-780's etc . Two technological giants, one American, the other German, that kick-started the country's economic renaissance in the late 1980's...
My first introduction to Liebherr equipment was one of your mobile cranes that could do 50 metric tonnes. I worked for a metal fabricator that had purchased two Anton Bauer Hydroforming machines in the late 1990s in Canada. The Liebherr worked in conjunction with a Kone overhead crane to position the base, pillars, and top of the skeletal structure of the presses. It was a sight to see.
if one does not speak german, one does not understand the way its pronounced, this is why its not easy to learn to speak german, with the umlaut in the U and E
I just bought one of their freezers. I think it is one of the most energy efficient on the market and is virtually silent. I concur that these guys know what they are doing. Well done!
Samsung is constructed to brake down after 3-4 years. They are doing that so that soon after warranty time consumer needs to buy new one. I really would not trust LG neither. But Whirlpool and Electrolux
Yeah, its great until it goes bad. Mine had a fabrication error where the pipes in the back would leak and it was impossible to repair, because they were sandwitched into plastic, 1500eur to garbage, just after warranty expired.

Thank you very much for this rich report about LIEBHERR growth ... I was not aware of LIEBHERR scale absolutely ... Very impressive report in just 19 minutes ...
Used to operate a liebherr cnc gear hobber, great machine, over the 2 year ~5000 hours running it i cant remember have a single problem with it. Honestly didnt get to know the machine all that well because i never had to fix it, so i never had to spend hours digging through the manuals.
Ever since watching an old video about 10 years ago Liebherr came to be my favourite engineering firm, about Hans Leibherr having began to create kind of towtruck also with the capacity to function as small crane. The most impressive fact about Liebherr ocurred during the American Global Financial Crisis, Leibherr did not terminate any staff or workers even though some employees were put on half pay when there just wasn't any work available. Difficult it would be to learn of any other hugely expanding engineering firm having achieved what Hans Liebherr had achieved. His most outstanding legacy, was his determination to train all his employees then to retain those many thousands of employees during the GFC.
This is a very interesting video, but it sonda very much like a corporate promotional PR video. 😂 I hope you got paid for that. Thank you for pulling the info together. There is a competitor in my area, called Sennebogen who also covers the portable crane segment. I think they also started in the post war era, maybe 10 or 15 years later. Would be interesting to compare their strategy and how their growth was funded. In the 50s - 80s smaller regional banks underwrote business loans for SMEs in Germany at amazingly high interest rates. They companies prospered and these banks did too. I doubt that such sef-funded expansion would be possible after the BASEL banking guidelines. Nowadays they only give loans if you don't need them. 😮😂
Absolutely: My parents had an interest rate of 12% in 1974 onwards... Banks prospered to a degree that hurt some companies too much ... Banks are to blame for many insolvencies in Germany!
I really got hooked on Liebherr Cranes after watching them in action by SpaceX at their new Starshp rocket launch site Starbace in Texas. The shear scale of these machines is amazing. Maybe Liebherr will one day become one of the first off Earth, heavy equipment producers.
Another cool libherr product is the ma-li trac that was the supposed sucsesors to Schlüter's tractors even keeping many similar parts to the Schlüter eurotrac The ma-li trac had around 300 horse power and only made it to the pre mass production stage
I have a question regarding some of the biggest and heaviest cranes and machinery Liebherr makes. Are those machines owned by Liebherr themself or are sold to other companies? Can imagine how utterly expensive to own, operate and maintain them is, so would make sense if Liebherr are the sole owners and just rent the services when needed.
Liebherr produce the machine for a customer. They don’t own the machine. Sometimes they rent it. But mostly sold. Mind this, you have to pay in full before start of production ( for some specific equipment, developed for the customer ) so for a large crane it can take over four ( 4 ) years from chèque to delivery.
My dad had a meeting with the shareholders probably over 20 years ago. The guy he was with, who really wasn’t that important, pissed them off quite quickly by questioning them…..so they said..the meeting is over…thank you. Good bye. lol The reason for the meeting never got started….lol Sheer incompetence
I want to hear more about the history of of producing gear making equipment. such as gear hobbing machines and gear grinders and other gear related tools. Did they start making their own machines in-house to cut gears needed for their other product lines such as cranes and large machinery?
All you need to do is: -open google translate -type in the german word that you are butchering -set it to german at the top -press the loud speaker symbol at the bottom!
Surprised there is no mention of the offshore cranes or ship cranes apart from one of them. Or the factory in Sunderland UK which used to produce them which now produces harbour cranes. I served my apprenticeship with liebherr building offshore cranes and spent my whole career working on liebherr equipment mostly cranes. I work on many different types of OEM cranes now but always prefer Liebherr. Expensive but no doubt the best in my mind
4 TIMES LIGHTER IS BABY TALK !!! It is it weighs on fourth !! (just try to set up an equation with times for something larger then one, with a negative answer !!)
The electric equipment is far more efficient than the diesel counterparts. Do you run your home on a generator, or do you connect to the grid, where economy of scale has made the electricity far cheaper than the price of running a generator? Exactly.
Love how you say "in 60th founded their first non European factory in South Africa"! For those who don't know, from 60th South Africa was under international sanctions for apartheid. So you make support of apartheid sound like an achievement!

If you're thinking about another brand I'd look into samsung and LG's forced arbitration clauses too. Other companies sell junk motors and know it.

I am using Liebherr refrigerator from the last two years it is working great. Good quality and sturdy design.
There is more to Liebherr than I knew about. I know all about the diggers, earth movers, and cranes ranges but this video was a real eye opener.

2:16 The pull out shelf on a fridge... I could use this today. I have not seen this in any of todays fridges!
Most of the pull out shelves these days are terribly quality plastic and break easily.
No mention of the JCB ,Williams Racing partnership. Both British icons.

Those big machines are expensive, but they do the work of 50-100 normal sized machines, for which the operator salaries alone would be extremely high.

How well is it facing up to Chinese competition in infrastructure expansion and renewal.
They buy the first, retro engeneers it and then produce "their own" look at China big crane, they are copy of Liebherr. Up to the wipers…
