Videos are just spot on, Great content, awesome data! I am getting my junk together for My temperature controller for my lee pot. Thank you sir for your work here!!
Old video, I know, but I just loaded some work up rounds with CFE BLK and the 225 grain Hornady ELD-Match. Starting at about 11.6 grains, it is compressed load. By 12.1 grains, it's really, really compressing the load. I seated to COAL of 2.255" to be sure they'll fit the mag and feed. Not sure I like that heavy compression. I also loaded up some with the 212 grain ELD-X. Much better. Went to 12.8 grains with no severe compressing of the load.
Hey FYI. Midway has the factory second hornady match bthp in 178 and 195gr in stock. About $0.25 per bullet. If you are looking for more loads to develop... hint hint. They also have some 110, 125, and 150s too.
24 cents a piece isn't bad for those 195's. Should make a good subsonic bullet, I'd wager. I am waiting on the 120gr Barnes TAC-TX to come back in stock. If the 195's are still available then I will pick some up to test.
i buy the project boards from dollar tree that have the foam in between and you can see bullet flight better. one board is the same size as your poster board 1$ a piece. at my elevation >50', with an always high humidity, and from 40 to 100 degrees 1150fps stays quiet. I group the 208 amax/eld at .350" at 70yrds. over 11.5gr 1680 cci400 2.260oal, out of a 10.5" shillen 1-8 twist. i want to do some work ups with more projectiles but havent yet. the berry 220s look like a less expensive one but haven't ordered yet...... i been spending to much time/money doing HV 308 work ups. getting 2520fps out my 22" with the same 208s best groups is .142 so far!!
When I saw the Hornady 225 grain ELD Match bullets in that one where you had them all lined up, I got excited, then month after month it turned to bitter disappointment as the test never came up, then they stopped all together! Hornady 225 grain ELD Match, you know, the ones that have the dark red tips.
thank you for putting these videos together. Amazing information. Would you consider testing the 212gr eldx since the 208 is no more? there is still barely any info about the 212 gr with 300 blk.
Johnny, awesome video, thanks and I always enjoy the way you put these together. Any plans to try the new CFE BLK powder? I haven't used it yet, but just saw it for sale. Hodgdon says it's made specifically for subs in 300 BLK with a faster burn rate than CFE 223.
I saw them but I haven't tried them yet. I think 30 cents a piece is ridiculous. That's why I haven't ordered any yet. I'll probably get around to testing them eventually but the price has made it a low priority. If they were 15-20 cents a piece I'd be all over them!
Yeah your right I just want to see how they do. Btw all your videos are really good but the 300 blackout stuff that you do are my favorite on UA-cam!!!
I'm very new to reloading I've done 243 for a while but now I'm starting to try and start 223 in a 2 different ar15 both 16inch one is 1 9 twist the other is 1 7 twist I have 55 grain I will be working is there a gun powder that would suggest me to start I only have imr 3031 so if you suggest a good powder I will go buy it also if you could suggest a good starting load to start with thanks and great video and info. I'm a new subb love the way you sharing info
My 8.5" has run perfectly since I put it together. I haven't drilled the gas port or anything like that. I was very careful to make sure my gas block was aligned and that was it. I started with a standard generic carbine buffer and spring. Then I moved to a lightweight JP Silent captured spring (carbine buffer/spring equivalent). And then recently I added the tungsten weights to the JP to make it an H3 equivalent. It has run perfectly with all of these configurations. If anything it is overgassed! I think I just got lucky! No issues at all.
Thanks for the reply Johnny, been having cycling issues with my 9" SBR (AAC) with anything but A1680 and IMR4198 for subs, Think I'm gonna have to get me one of them JP silents capture kits. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to make these awesome videos man!
thanks! this helps a lot! question; I have a 7.5" Barrel and looking for the hotest load while still staying subsonic. any recommended loads I should consider? also, Im considering hunting deer and need the bullet to expand. Lehigh looks good but stoopid expensive.
My 8.5" loads should be very close for your 7.5". Check out my tests on the 200gr Maker REX bullets. They are an expanding subsonic that is a bit cheaper than Lehigh. Took a deer with the Maker this year and it did a great job.
I know this is an older video.but you need to try some H110 or 296 I have had great results with either of these powders (they are interchangeable) .I have tried 1680 and reloader 7 with mixed results!
I’m actually getting ready to do a video on 190 green sub-x Projectiles I finally got my hands on a couple boxes and I’ve played around with some powders 296 is definitely The winner 1680 is very dirty as well as 4227 so keep an eye Out for that video in the next couple of weeks
what do you think would a nine inch barrel with a 1 in 9 twist with that bullet would be with the RL7 with the 10.7 would it go up or down in velocity?
I had the warble issues with Hornady 200gr eld-x with I'm 4227 in a 10 1/2 in with 1 in 8 twist do you think if I used the same pill and powder you did in this vid I'd have a chance at something I could use!
Reloader 7 is better than 1680 in all my experiences and testing ..Plus it doesn't cling to everything like 1680 does..And fills the case better for subsonic's
Glad this is back this series is the main reason I subscribed

Thanks, man! Good luck with that temp controller. Let me know if you have any issues.
Excellent run my friend! You're a beast.... snow nor rain can even slow you down! : ) ..(.Worthy of note taking)
Thanks for the vid. I just finished my 300 blk 10.5 pistol build today. Cant wait to get out and shoot it.
rawouch i have a 10 1/2 ready to build also. I am definitely trying these.
Those groups are epic; almost every one of them looked like the 5 side of a die 😂

When you were shooting groups with the 8.5", I think the reason it hit so high is you adjusted the scope up when you meant to adjust it down.

I like Johnny's channel because he still has all his fingers 🙂

Yes, I'll be testing it.
Great video.
Thanks, brother!
Hey johnny have you saw the new berry's 220gr for 300 blackout? Just got some the other day haven't had time yet to work up a load yet
I saw them but I haven't tried them yet. I think 30 cents a piece is ridiculous. That's why I haven't ordered any yet. I'll probably get around to testing them eventually but the price has made it a low priority. If they were 15-20 cents a piece I'd be all over them!

I am really curios how they'll do as well! I'll probably break down and buy some soon. Let me know if you have any luck with them.
11:21 Almost exactly 100fps/grain for each charge.
Great videos.. Like to know what the twist rate your 8.5 barrel is? Any problems with key-holing?
Thanks
1:8 twist. The only keyholing issues I've had are with some cast lead bullets.
I have a 1:8 and a 1:7, shooting 220 grain Leatherhead HiTech coated lead I had some slight key holing with the 1:8 but the 1:7 shoots them perfectly.
There is load data for IMR 3031 on the hodgdon website. Might as well start with what you've already got on hand! Start low and work your way up.
Hey Johnny, what buffer and spring are you using with you 8.5" and have you messed around with that at all to get your SBR functioning properly?
My 8.5" has run perfectly since I put it together. I haven't drilled the gas port or anything like that. I was very careful to make sure my gas block was aligned and that was it. @@gonzo38pp53 what’s your channel?
Found it…usually when I click on the name it takes me to the channel but it didn’t for yours 🤷♂️
what do you think would a nine inch barrel with a 1 in 9 twist with that bullet would be with the RL7 with the 10.7 would it go up or down in velocity?
What graph/chart program is being used? Thanks!
MS excel
IMR4198, Sweeeet!!
I had the warble issues with Hornady 200gr eld-x with I'm 4227 in a 10 1/2 in with 1 in 8 twist do you think if I used the same pill and powder you did in this vid I'd have a chance at something I could use!
I have a 10.5" 1:8 twist barrel using the 200 eld-x with RE-7 and I'm not having those issues
I'll try re-7 then Mabe that's my problem thanks brother
Are you shooting subsonic?
Larry Lee As a side note I'm giving mine a light crimp with the Lee FCD also.
Larry Lee Yes, subs
I'm taking notes. My Tax SBR tax stamp is due any day!
The wait is terrible! I've got a pistol buffer tube collecting dust if you want it.
LOL! Thanks! I'm good.
Reloader 7 is better than 1680 in all my experiences and testing ..Plus it doesn't cling to everything like 1680 does..And fills the case better for subsonic's
