I found this video really fascinating, a lot of albums have received the same treatment as streaming shows where they don’t get a physical release, and due to how easy burning a cd is there’s a huge boom of lovingly made bootlegs just because consumers love the art so much

Basically if the companies aren’t gonna release them then we wouldn’t have to buy them, and there wouldn’t be people out there making them

I have not bought a bootleg dvd or Blu-ray yet but I started thinking about it when I noticed companies disappearing content from their streaming platforms (mainly for accounting purposes and to screw over creatives). I’ve lost all trust in these platforms so now I feel like if there’s anything I really like, I need to get my own copy by any means necessary. I’d gladly pay for an official dvd or Blu-ray but companies are doing fewer of those now now.

It "IS" illigal to sell bootlegs on eBay and all it takes is somebody reporting the account selling them and the account is banned... But they'll just make a new account after that so I wouldn't be surprised if eBay don't react to harsh to it on their own.

Months ago I got a Prey bootleg because I had waited like a year for news on a physical release and there wasn't any. The quality was amazing and really I could have kept it, but when it was released officially, I bought it officially. I remember doing the same with Fright Night Part II Blu-ray. Which has now been released in Italy, so I bought that and got rid of the bootleg. I'll always buy the official release if it's there, but if I love it, and it doesn't exist, I'd probably get a bootleg. Streaming services nowadays are getting greedy not releasing their stuff on physical media, and it's ending up costing them a lot of money. So in that situation I'm actually behind the bootleggers, and hope they do well because I want the studios to learn their lesson by how well bootlegs are doing. I genuinely believe the bootlegging market for Prey and Mandalorian in particular, is the EXACT reason Disney ended up releasing them on physical. Those two titles were heavily bootlegged on ebay and etsy and I truly believe that why they were released eventually.

No it isn't Disney had no intention of releasing any of that stuff physically they want the death of physical media period they only released those titles because they are losing loads of money and need to try and get cash back not because they wanted to release them

i started to buy bootlegs as a protest, and eventually statement of war with most disc distributors. see, in my region, the quality of the real discs went down hard especially near the end of all the distributors. i even got real dvds that is blocked by cinavia, and "new" discs started to suffer from disc rot. i reached out to them, but they said i was mishandling the disc. so i bought the bootleg to see which one will last longer. well, now physical media is entirely gone here, and the bootleg market is, not exactly doing well, but survive and shows no sign of stopping 😮

there is one very specific but real scenario where bootlegs are essential: streaming shows that have been removed from their services and are now homeless, perhaps the most egregious examples of this being NUMEROUS disney+ shows and movies being effectively zapped out of existence. how is one to watch the stargirl movies, or the willow tv shows? i don’t think a creator of one of those lost projects would you mind stealing it back from disney in the least.

    Hi mate
I hate to say it but it might be the only way to get movies and tv shows on physical media
If they’re not going to put them out officially.
Disney stopping physical media is a big example and how many other film companies do they own it’s a scary thing.
The winner in all this is The Bootleggers down the Lavo Market 🤔😭

I have 2 opinions on Bootlegs, if it's a TV series that was officially released on DVD, but someone on eBay is selling a bootleg and not disclosing it, may they burn in their own personal hell. If it's not possible to purchase it officially through authorized channels, then bootlegs are justified.

I am totally on board with boot lake if there is no other way to attain a physical copy. I have three foot leg titles in my collection owned by twentieth century fox that never made blue ray. And disney now owning that entire catalog has said that they have no plans on releasing that stuff. And I have absolutely every intention on having certain titles in my collection regardless if it is studio or Book leg

I didn't realize this was such an issue outside the US. Physical media is so available, that you can go to second hand stores and find just about any DVD you're looking for. And i guess if people want a physical copy of streaming shows, they would have to download, then create a physical disk. But i dont see the point of the physical part as long as there are downloads available. Once those are gone, then i guess you might wish you had physical copies.

I have bootlegs of OUTLAW KING, THE HIGHWAYMEN, THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, the STAR WARS 4K77 TRILOGY etc because the streaming companies or studios simply will never release those film on physical media. I'd gladly buy legitimate copies if these companies would just release them officially, but they won't/don't. So I'll keep buying bootlegs if thats the only option because these films should have physical copies made available. I've bought a bootleg of TRUE LIES - but I'll be buying the proper 4K release next year for sure. I never buy a bootleg of a film that has an official release somewhere.

I collect kaiju films specifically. I have a complete Godzilla, Gamera & King Kong film collection, all official releases. A good majority of them however are old releases, or hard-to-find. It costed a hefty penny for some of them. Due to distribution licenses expiring and copyrights be here, there & everywhere, it can be hard to collect Japanese kaiju films. Because of this, bootlegs aren't uncommon. And frankly, if I didn't own all these officially, I would support buying pirated copies. Often times, official releases are either only dubbed, or only subbed, or both. That, or these bootlegs are rare theatrical cuts that aren't on newer home media. I've debated buying a couple (namely Varan & Rodan) because they haven't seen a US release in years. I think buying bootlegs is justified if a movie is hard to find, or just doesn't exist physically. Streaming exists, but they can pick & pull movies at any time. Having it physically adds that sense of security.

    • @DevilMayKye
      @DevilMayKye 8 місяців тому +1

*To add onto my sentence about bootleg kaiju movies
The copies of Varan & Rodan that are on DVD here in the US are years out of print, and only contain the English releases that cut down a lot of original footage. Bootleg copies I've found are 'remastered' often from Japanese blu-ray discs and contain both languages.

It’s perfectly understandable to go for a bootleg route with a lot of kaiju films. I have about 60-80 on a hard drive just because most are exceptionally hard to find on physical

So when I found that online I nabbed it, something I wouldn't have done were it available via an official source as a physical media release.

The Biggest problems with Bootlegs being sold online is the quality, streaming services offer such bad quality, its not worth paying at all. Take 4K for example, netflix/D+ 4k is round 20-30m/b bitrate, where as the physical 4K versions are 60+ m/b bitrate.

Sure i can find capeshit in any language, but if i want to watch japanese or german movies is more likely the subs will be limited to 2 or e languages, of i want to watch samurai movies with my old man im going for the bootleg route

Let’s consider how many times the same product is released then well you want this feature only on blu ray sorry no
Or the George Lucas effect or consistently altering his movies meanwhile the original version are disappearing
Or to due to whatever reasons various episodes of shows just disappear
So yea im not buying a bootleg but I will sail the high seas and have my own copies things I grew up w
And then you have to consider fans restoring music and original soundtracks to shows becuz of licensing issues
Fans care more about IP than companies imo
So if it makes me a pirate so be it but I’m not paying for a movie or show to stream then look it’s gone
    Nope

Are people really paying $25+ dollars for a movie? I can't think of any movies, that I would pay that much for and I have a lot of disposable income. Over $100 for 4 movies lol? That's crazy. I had tubs full of DVDs and Blu rays that I probably watched once or never. I'm not buying those again in 4K or have those stupid dvd holders all over the living room lol. I have a 40TB Nas, with over 400 movies that I can click on and watch in an instant, with nice thumbnails and even trailers for the movie. I assume bootleg is just another term for downloading a torrent for the movie. Maybe if movies were like $9 or something, but I think most people just download them for free. I went to play a 4K disk I had and I remember why discs suck so much. Takes forever to get through the intro and menus and warnings etc.. No thanks. If they sold just the MKV of the movie for cheap, that would probably be much better.

    • @CollectorCreations
      @CollectorCreations  8 місяців тому

Assuming you mean USD then yeah, some people do for premium or boutique releases. These aren’t standard releases of films given they are usually highly curated but it can still be a nasty habit given the prices.
Bootleg in regards to this video is buy a physical copy of a film that someone else has illegally downloaded and ported onto a disc. Similar to pirating but with extra steps. A lot of collectors are ok with this given they get a physical copy of a film but I understand a lot of people are happy to just have a digital copy on a hard drive. Discs are my preferred method given they have the space to let the film breath as well as having special features and whatnot, but bootlegs are usually just the film unless the bootleg is a rip of a previous released physical version of a film.
If you prefer your method of spending small amounts on DVD’s and focusing on filling hard drives with digital versions of films and shows then that’s perfectly fine. It’s your library in the end, and you can chose to display it and collect however you prefer.

Seriously???!!!!! Are you people really sitting here debating the morales of piracy... its always piracy, how much money do you have to give these people? If you saw a movie in theater, then bought it on dvd, then bought the blu ray, then decided to download the 4K file, they would still consider that "pirating" so again I ask, how much money do you have to give these people? sometimes even for one piece of content? These are not some poor mom and pop small businesses that need your support. Furthermore, the argument the studios and software companies make that every pirated copy is a sale lost is just nonsense.

So yeah piracy has a negative impact.
If people that support piracy would make it the norm to the point only the big industries can survive and small creators and studios get bought up by bigger studios since they can take a loss.
There’s no morality in piracy, if you support it and do it then you’re helping in making it the norm and making it bigger. So I personally don’t do it. I rather not watch the content and look at other forms of entertainment.
