More than half of my anime collection blu rays/DVDs are out of print. A really insane ratio
You really do have to buy movies as soon as they come out, I’ve seen movies on 4K in Australia go oop quick
Totally agree. Any 4K that I have a vague interest in: buy imediately! Even now I'm chasing LAWRENCE OF ARABIA 4K in shops and not seeing it in stock.
So true. Butvto do that, you need to have always some extra funds, and most people dont have that posibility 🙁
@@DVDhoarderI now have a mortgage and have to be selective. That said, I no longer wait for JB sales. You have to visit three shops to find three want-list titles (I prefer not to mail order but should).
Reminder, this is where "evil" piracy comes into play. If the company refuses to give the customer what they want, the black market is more than happy to pick up the slack. Sometimes its the only way to even watch a movie, as streaming services may not have it. Plus you can check out if a movie is any good before spending a bunch on a disc you may not like.
I also believe piracy affects positive change, as home media no longer has trailers and other commercials that force play when you put a disc in; Its either straight to the menu or the movie itself.
My son sometimes downloads a movie for movie night and there have been time we enjoyed the movie and can see us watching it again I'll go buy a physical copy
@@JohnDoe-bz4yl yup, i buy physical media (got 3 Arrow 4k pre-orders on the way, for instance) all the time, heck im currently building up my 4k collection. but it does help with cost and seeing if a movie is even worth it, and if it is, then it deserves your money!
So happy I picked up Power Rangers a few months ago! Had no idea it was so close to out of print! I grew up with Power Rangers and was a fun watch all these years later. 🤘🏼
The incredible hulk 4k just went out of print as well.
I recommend that you take a trip to here in California. Currently with the demise of Physical Media as a main stream product , there are lots of bargains to be had in the used DVD outlets. I live in Burbank (2km away are WB, Disney and Universal studiis). We have Atomic Records here in Burbank and both CD Trader plus Amoeba Records , just 20 minutes away. I have a number of rare items that I have paid under $10 (US) for. As far as Best Buy is concerned, most serious collectors stopped shopping there years ago. Walmart is now the largest retailer. Collectors shop on line and have done for many years.
Best Buy's problem is that they were always more expensive than Amazon and they were way overcharging for exclusive steelbook releases. So people stopped buying through them, and they were sitting on inventory that wasn't moving. That and I think the CEO wanted to make it more like Costco and sell appliances more than anything.
If I can ever afford a trip to the US I’ll keep it in mind
thanks for the tip, im about an hour out, i might have to take the drive. Do they buy laser disc? i have maybe 150 and some criterion like speed and se7en, few others. id like to sell for more blu rays
I got that Power Rangers blu-ray at Walmart for $10 7 months ago… Wow $200? Thats insane so glad I got it when I did! I got the OOP Godzilla movies too before they went OOP so I have Biollante on Blu-Ray, Thank God!
I got the Japanese copy of biollante just to complete the collection but would scoop up one with English title in a second if re-released
I have "Power Rangers: The Movie" on BD from Shout Factory with the slip and everything, in pretty much perfect condition. Is that worth anything? I only bought it because I loved that movie back in the day, grew up with the original Power Rangers series (have that on DVD too).
Check the eBay sold listings, caused it’d be worth more than the version I have which doesn’t have the slip. However if you love the film then I think it’s more important to keep it and just enjoy knowing that you can watch it whenever you want
Power Rangers makes sense since Shout! would only hold the license for a certain period of time. There is no excuse for Alien unless they are planning some new set, maybe for its 45th anniversary this year?
BTW, Shout! constantly announces when things are going out of print. I get emails all of the time from them about it.
Alien is now under Disney and they don’t release physical media in Australia so it won’t come back anytime soon, if ever. But yeah Shout stuff going oop does make sense given everything they have is under a temporary license but sometimes you just don’t know when that license will end. I would subscribe to Shout’s email to get those notifications, notifications I didn’t know people got, but I can’t order anything from them given I’m in Australia so it doesn’t benefit me much.
@@CollectorCreations Oh sorry, I didn't consciously think about your being in Australia even though you said it like a hundred times.
That’s ok haha, I get a surprising amount of comments from people who just expect that I’m in the US and have the same access to everything they have when I’m not and I don’t. I appreciate the response though as I wasn’t aware that Shout let people know of their soon to be out of print titles. I know that Indicator does but I am subscribed to their email because I can import from them and do so a couple times a year
I only buy movies I am interested in I won't buy just for the sake of owning it
You are definitely missing out then
What kind of insane person that is Not interested in power rangers though 😭
I really hope Shout Factory can do more with Power Rmagers in the future.
But with how the DVDs sell and with how Hasbro is with releasing Physical Media, I don't think we'll get more stuff on Blu Ray... Nevermind 4K. 😂😂😟
There's a whole bunch OOP here in the UK. The original Red Dawn, the Crank movies, xXx movies, The 6th Day, Enemy Of The State etc. And then there's the ones that haven't even had a blu ray release. End Of Days, Judge Dredd (Stallone one) heck i don't think that Power Rangers blu ray made it here
On the plus side, your editions are usually much better than ours here in the US. Your EXORCIST edition was magnificent. Ours was a fucking insert-free steelbook without the original poster art.
Recently, I paid way too much for La La Land on 4k 😅
Physical media is getting hit in gaming as well. Game UK retailer will stop selling physical games. I've always bought physical, movies & games. Unfortunately I think digital only is inevitable. Sad times
I love buying physical copies of games but now most of them are just a sell with a key to access a game that is mostly online which I super disappointing. Nintendo are one of the few that still honour physical copies which is great but nothing beats putting a disc in and starting up a game without having to download hours of updates
@@CollectorCreations that's so true. Like the Call of Duty ganes. Like 50mb on disc and the rest is a download. I'm based in the UK. Only really started collecting 4k /bluray and games a year ago. Cant believe Aliens 4k is oop in Australia. Must be super expensive to import. That sucks. Respect to all the dedicated supporters of physical media.
Yeah Alien on 4K goes for upwards of $45 to $60 AUD from the UK or US. International versions come with the Blu-Ray disc unlike the AUS version but still it’s a hell of a price compared to the $20 AUD I paid for Alien on 4K
Many people now lease their car, buy houses with a massive mortgage, buy all kinds of digital products like video games and movies.
The question starts to arise, do we actually own anything these days? Even our bank account, is just a bunch of digits in a computer system.
Me and other people have warned about the direction the world is going for a long time now. Most people just saw it as a good thing since it's more efficient and effective in a lot of ways (which it is when it works). The scary thing is all the power ends up in the hands of the coorporations and the contracts that you sign. The terms and right contract that you sign to play a game for instance, could litterally say that the server will be shut down after a year and your access to the game will be terminated forever. In a digital world, we own nothing.
Problem with buying digital copies of movies 1.it might be a bad file that comes up error when going to watch it 2. The quality of the movie could be terrible 3. Movie you are looking for digitally is unavailable
Sometimes it’s down to licensing agreements with distributors once it expires and no other buys the library stock then they can’t print out anymore.
Fright night 85 is very rare to get down to that very same thing I highlighted above other than bootleg you even can’t find it’s 88 sequel on official releases apart from watching it on UA-cam for free .
Avengers infinity war on Blu Ray from one charity shop originally cost me 99p + 1p difference altogether it was £1.00 .
Dead or Alive went oop (yes, the one based on that video game) -- and its price has skyrocketed.
I believe Kevin Smith said very recently that Dogma rights were bought back so a new disc release seems inevitable ... finally!
Imagine going above and beyond for Dead or Alive. And yes another commenter mentioned the Dogma rights have gone back to Smith, which I do recall now after seen the supposed April fools day post but yeah maybe that’s why the bluray has popped up in thrift shops more often now
I went into CEX whilst visiting Scarborough and they were selling the live action super Mario bros movie with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo on Blu ray for £20.00 so I didn’t buy it at one thrift shop had Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker on VHS for £5.00 and yes I did buy it such bargain for an seaside find.
Thumbs up just for your shirt
Love my classic universal Monsters
Where did you get those universal monster figs in the background
The universal figures are from Pop Mart. I have a video unboxing them on my channel called Universal Monsters Pop Mart Unboxing
Dogma has been officially confirmed as coming to 4k by "dawn of the discs".
Interesting
“You will own nothing”
-The WEF wastrels
The WEFstrels.
Haha really, I own plenty but since you obviously pay for a woefully bad streaming services you lie in your own mess of virtual non ownership. Hilarious
BEWARE THE STREAMING SERVICES!!!
Im just hoping for one day we get Harry & The Hendersons 4K Criterion Collection or a basic release! I love that movie! only been released on DVD, VHS & Blu Ray
Yeah I bought those madmen Godzilla box sets years back too glad I did.
They’re good sets, not perfect but good enough. If they were more complete then I would be happier with them
I could understand why many would think the Godzilla Blu-rays are upscales (I assume you're talking about the Kraken Releasing version of Godzilla 1984 which is now OOP and going for an enormous amount of money) because they could be. Pretty much all of the Hesei and Millennium Godzilla movies on Blu-ray look really bad to just highly okay. However, I think they are all HD native masters that are just really, really old. Toho is notorious for not allowing other companies to do anything with their movies and they do not perform the best scanning and remastering for their movies. As such, many of their Blu-rays such as the Criterion set, the Sony Toho Godzilla Collection, and both 1984 and Biollante look pretty cruddy. They don't exhibit the standard aliasing, macro blocking, and stair stepping of DVD upscales (look at the first season of Shaun the Sheep on the Shout Factory Blu-ray to see what I mean), but they do scream for a remaster. On that note, Biollante does have a Japanese 4K Blu-ray which I think would be interesting to see. I don't have any explicit hard evidence to prove this one way or another, but I am just hypothesizing.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they weren’t upscale but they definitely need the remasters. The Criterion versions aren’t bad but a few of them need a lot of fixing
@@CollectorCreations The Criterion Collection is the last set I need to have all of the Godzilla movies on Blu-ray, but I have kind of been dragging my feet on getting it because of the quality issues I have heard. I have seen some screenshots and they look overall alright, but maybe it is time to fork out the money necessary as I am still using some ancient DVD copies for the Showa movies. In Japan, around 7-8 of the Showa Godzilla movies (and Biollante) have newer 4K SDR masters on 4K Blu-ray which look fantastic from what I have seen, but they cost an arm and a leg and they do not have English subtitles (which is understandable I guess). Hopefully they will get released to the United States at some point (perhaps with an updated Criterion 4K version, fingers crossed) kind of like how Minus One was/is.
In the case of MMPR: The Movie, Shout's license ran out and since it was put out by 20th Century Fox and Fox is owned by Disney, who knows if it will ever see the light of day again.
I doubt it will given how little Disney respects their library
@@CollectorCreations Oh yeah. This is Disney we're talking about. It's gone (LBVS).
that alien disc is one of the best looking 4ks there is
That’s true
What's helped me a lot has been to make my hobby a small side hustle. I've bought big lots of blus (for the most part) and sell what I don't like. End up breaking even or making a little extra. Have that cash help me buy stiff I want. Also no matter what, if it's a good deal. I'll buy it. If I don't like it I'll flip it. It's helped make a budget that I strictly use for my hobbies and have added in not cutting into my responsibilities as a father. Before I would just buy what i like and always feel like I'm missing out on the niche stuff that caught my interest.
ALSO ive also stopped worrying too much about missing the blu/4K if the dvd is still available. Because if i can find the blu/4K later for cheap ill can offset the dvd a bit.
I would say the one I'd like to find on blu-ray is the complete series set of either outlaw star or burst angel.
I’m sure some time down the road once a new show and new merchandise kicks back up some company will release a blu ray again of the movie. The franchise is popular enough to still make money but just kind of in limbo right now since there is no new show filming and hasbro gave up on the toys
If I had either of the Power Ranger movie laserdiscs I would sell them because they fetch a hundred dollars easily each.
It does feel great to get OOP discs at a cheap price. For example (at a certain time) the Alec Baldwin Walking with Cavemen was going for 200+ dollars. I got it for 5 on Ebay. lol
I managed to pick up Klute on Blu-Ray from my local branch of HMV, when I found out through their website they still had a copy of this now out of print title. I’d seen it before many years ago on Sky Movies and decided I would like to see it again, following the death of Donald Sutherland.
I only collect films I've seen and enjoy, so rarely anything that has come out in the last 20 years. I like my collection to reflect on my my tastes. Of course, I do miss out on some titles I wish I picked up but I'd rather that than waste loads of money on crap I don't want.
So very happy that I already bought the mighty morphin power rangers the movie on Blu-ray before it went out of print last year, I think I bought mine back in January from last year I think This movie was actually my childhood ☺️
I saw this film in the cinema as a kid. That price is nuts.
And thanks for thinking about me for Godzilla films... as soon as they become available again, we will windmill slam purchase them!
You bet
Didn’t they say that Psychical discs will be supported until 2030 when it was announced five years ago due to the backlash it received.
I bought the Rebirth of Mothra Blu-ray trilogy last year for $15 on Amazon. It is now out of print and listed for $150.
Hot damn. I have that Blu-Ray too, I had no idea it was OOP
One word is scalping that’s why everything is selling at extortionate prices this is why nobody likes EBay of late .
I've recently started to collect classic Looney Tunes Blu-rays. The new Collector's Choice Blu-rays are great, but they've got no extra's, and only one disc per volume. I really regret not getting the Platinum Collection, which were really nice packages of 50 cartoons per volume, tons of extra's including audio commentary and a booklet.
I also regret not getting the Pink Panther Blu-ray collection. I hope those movies could get a 4K remaster sometime.
Dogma is the name of that Kevin Smith film.
Bingo!
@@mikefisher2673 I own it. 😎
Yeah I heard that the dogma movie was also out of print as well, it's definitely very very hard to Find
I CAN'T GET GRAVITY FALLS EITHER 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
How come the alien 4k is in the thumbnail? Thats not going OOP is it?
It’s out of print in Australia cause Disney pulled out of releasing anything in Australia.
Wow I literally did the same thing last year. Should I sell it?
I’d consult my local doctor before doing anything
@@CollectorCreations I think you’re right. My doctor said I’d be crazy to sell it.
It's licensing. Studios give out the rights to labels for a predetermined period of time and then they go out of print
Other than Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, what's another one of your hidden gems? 🐧🍏🍎💙
The American version of Godzilla 84,(Godzilla 85) has never gotten an official blu ray or a dvd just the old VHS
Interesting. I have the Blu-ray which is the Japanese cut (thankfully) but still a US release, but I’ve heard rumours that Criterion might be working on it for a Heisei set now that they’ll be streaming the first four Heisei films on their streaming platform
No Aliens is still available on amazon. Aliens is selling over 900+ a month. This being in uk
Firstly I was talking about Alien. Secondly I am talking about in Australia
"Alien"... I got mine.
I bought the Power Rangers Blu-ray in Germany for 2€ and regret it till today😂
It has 3 times more Special Features than the Shout Factory and very good picture quality and also english Audio.
Same with Alien. You can buy the 4k Disc everywhere for around 10-15 bucks.
Alien is only out of print in Australia and a few other countries because Disney doesn’t release here anymore. Germany is infamous for their exclusive releases of films with completely different audio and picture and special features, compared to most other countries
Damn, i still have the vhs for this.
Missing the slipcover on Power Rangers The Movie. You said you don't know when a movie is going to go out of print? Shout Factory said they would stop selling The Power Rangers Movie on blu-ray they gave a date so yeah it literally said it on their website. Dogma is a bad example to bring up because there's rumors about it getting a re-release look it up.
My edition didn’t come with a slip cover which doesn’t bother me. And yeah I didn’t know it was going out of print. Someone else mentioned that they send newsletters which stipulates if a film is going out of print but I’m not subscribed to that so I wasn’t made aware until I saw a post on reddit. But it’s still a relevant thing that someone like me, who isn’t always in the immediate know, finds out that a film I own (or even don’t own) is out of print via a blu-ray forum. Lots of people wouldn’t know that and would only find out the hard way, which is when they’d go to buy it and discover the high prices for themselves. Or like with my Amazon Wishlist, the film or show just becomes unavailable and I never get to buy it.
Dogma isn’t a bad example because it’s been oop for years and it’s been discovered a lot at op shops in the US. Rumour or not of it being reprinted is still just that but it’s a pretty infamous example of an out of print film
I have yet to start collecting 4k
Take your time. If you’re happy with how you already watch films and shows, on DVD or Blu-ray, then it’s not bad to stick to those formats. 4K is nice though but can be controversial
Yup they go out of print but Nobody in their right mind will buy an out of print movie for hundreds of dollars from scalpers. By doing so we're just encouraging them.
"The Black Cauldron" is going out print $72 USD plus shipping $9 ...😮 that is just crazy.
Disney got more important things to do like ... painting rainbows 🎉 share price is ...hmmm not doingso well😂.
I feel like everything Disney will be oop soon. The Sony deal seems to have gone nowhere
@@tomahawk238 seems like Disney happy to let all the old timeless classics films to sit in a dusty vault and rott. I guess that's why u got internet sharing platforms.
No it's not.
What’s not?
@@CollectorCreationslol he probably just read the thread title and didn’t watch
@tomahawk238 I think you’re onto something
Hey bud. Looks like we have similar channels. I just sub'd to you and I'm looking forward to checking out more of your videos!
