As someone with extremely hooded eyes and low brows, I have gotten to the point where I just gave up on watching makeup tutorials because even the ones for "hooded" eye NEVER worked for me. I've just had to find out how to make makeup work for myself and I think I've done a pretty good job. Although I've said all this, I really really appreciate this video. It's one of the most in depth and actually informative videos I've seen about hooded eyes. It means a lot to see someone be realistic and say that things just will not work the same on these types of eyes.
I feel you! I love makeup, but what can you really do with such a narrow space bw your hooded eye and the brow ??? :/ Lately here is what I do, if that helps : I use a shimmery crayon around the eye, inner corner and in the water line to make it look more "open" (I found a Charlotte Tilbury eye crayon that does not transfer, a miracle!), and if I feel like going glamorous I just add the tiniest triangle of a darker shadow or crayon in the outer corner to make the eye look catty XD Long lasting and transfer proof is our graal
You know that the actual problem is that most beauty creators who become popular don't really have hooded eyes. This lets them do those visually striking looks that bring them that popularity.
I have it, too. I actually find that the twiggy makeup look really suits my particular eye type because that little fake lid with the eyeliner kind of gives the illusion the lid's in that spot. I also try to play with the undereye "bags" (or, what Korean makeup gurus call the "aegyo sal" ) and white eyeliner in the waterline to make the eyes look bigger. If you really want to do an intricate look, block out the eyebrows :D
I have the same type of eyes plus I wear glasses. Can’t see without them and really can’t see the makeup I spend so much time trying to achieve! It’s looking beautiful (kind of) and then I put my glasses on and BAM! What eyeshadow? Pisses me off to the extreme!
It's nice to hear someone without hooded eyes actually understanding the issue. No amount of winged liner tutorials will ever give me siren eyes. I just need to embrace what I've got.
i had the exact same problem basically, and i still have a hard time with it, but there is a way to make it look sort of that way. for example, making wings almost droop downwards so that way you get a very nice looking wing that doesn't look super strange, like engaging your lower lash line and lower outer corner area. otherwise you can look straight ahead in the mirror and let your eyes just rest normally, and draw the wing you want while keeping your eye completely still and natural. it will end up with a pretty intense bat wing eyeliner look, which i personally love, but if you don't like it it's not a big deal because when your eyes are just resting and your face is neutral, you won't even notice the bat wing. I know this may not be achievable depending on just how hooded your eyes are, but mine are a mixture of jennifer laurence's and the first very fully hooded example she showed where the brow was drooping over the eyelids. if you want, i can try to explain more of what i mean further if you're willing to exchange snap or ig. hope this helps at least a tiny bit
@@theultimatecringeboi8862 Hi! As someone with with partially hooded eyelids, small-ish rounded eyes and low-set eyebrows, I’m really interested in trying out your idea of drawing the wings while letting my eyes rest naturally ! When you do that, what is (roughly) the angle of the wings? Do you continue the line of your lower eyelid? Do you point it towards the tips of the eyebrows? Are the wings curved or straight? (Sorry for the many questions, I’m very inexperienced in trying out eyeliner since I can’t manage it because of my features 😅)
I'm finally getting there. Age and gravity have changed the shape of my eyes and those gorgeous wings I used to do are just not possible anymore. Time to move on.
If your crease drop below the outer corner of the eye then winged eyeliner is just not possible. That kind of very low crease is common in scandinavian countries and a Swedish makeup artist explained it. She said it is better to experiment with getting cat eye looks with fake eyelashes.
I really love how she understands the problem and actually tries to help us hooded eye people without being unrealistic. Thank you so much! A hooded eyed girl:)
Not really... Most of those have a lot of - usually "flat" - space between eye and brow. If you have hooded eyes in a kind of monolid, sure, Asian tutorials are a good idea. If you have any other kind of hood, it doesn't help at all unfortunately.
I love how she looks at it from an anatomical standpoint. I've been looking for a makeup artist that explains like this for YEARS. So many makeup artists forget not everyone's face looks like theirs and facial anatomy is the most important part of makeup 😅.
as someone with quite hooded eyes, learning how to do korean/ japanese/ chinese makeup is honestly a game changer, as it's specifically for monolids (but also obviously looks great on hooded eyes) and just complements my eyes a lot more (especially the liner works more)
@@di3486 actually no, your issue is your eyes are deep set. That isn't the same thing as just having hooded eyes. You have both. People with monolids have hooded eyes that tend to be shallow set. It is common for people with western hooded eyes to have deeper set eyes, but thats clearly not always the case.
For the LONGEST TIME I didn't know hooded eyes were a thing, I just thought my eyelids were stupid 😭 I remember my dance teachers getting so frustrated whenever we'd do show makeup bc it would never look "right" on my eyes
Same, I also got scolded by a makeup artist that was provided by my dance teacher when I was seven, because my eyeliner keeps on looking bad when I open my eyes and it smudges throughout my eyelids. I ended up looking like a witch because the makeup artist leave it that way, and he cover it up with black eyeshadow since it is so hard to erase an eyeliner before especially when it dries up. So I performed together with other kids that are making fun of me because my makeup is different and I was frowning at that time.
I feel like Asian beauty tutorials would be the best for those with fully hooded eyes since they are MADE for that. There definitely is a lot of focus on the lower eyelid, and probably why they do the whole "aegyosal" (under-eye crease definition) in Korean makeup.
absolutely and also because korean eye makeup works well with people with low brows because they don't blow out their eyeshadow like we do in the west. they keep the shadow with the eyelid fold.
well I'm asian and have an eye shape similar to Jennifer Lawrence and the Korean tutorials never help me that much. they mostly have double eyelids. and the ones that don't, have monolids. the aegyosal stuff is cute, but its a different thing, its just a way to emphasize the fat there to look cute. this video helped me a lot more
FINALLY someone who differentiates between the different kinds of hooded eyes. There are SO many! I love how PRACTICAL and USEFUL your tutorials always are. No crazy out there make-up art or drag queen looks (not that there's anything wrong with them 😁) but us girls need day to day tips even MORE
Yea and it was actually cute and original too. I’ve got hooded eyes like here a bit but my brows are way lower. I always noticed that when I put thick liner my whole lid was gone lol, or that when I made a darker cease then my whole eyes would get darker because you barely see the lid, I did always highlight my brow but still tips like these are very helpful
Yes! I always get so bummed when I see someone claim they have a hooded eye technique, but it is clearly not for someone like me with low brows and not a lot of "real estate" 😜. I am grateful to see more techniques catered to us!
as someone who is asian, I think hooded eyelids are so pretty because you can really play with that brow bone area and make your face looks so angsty and chiseled when done correctly. makeup trends only reflect everyone's anatomy so much until it just becomes undoable for those of us who are the minority. I like cut creases they are so pretty-- but I'd love to see my hooded baddies embrace their beautiful parts.
i always wish that i was asian or had korean eyes because koreans have reached the nirvana in eye makeup (or makeup in general tbh) and there's so many pretty things to do with it, easy too, because of the eye shape. i do have hooded eyes but the korean makeup doesn't work for me. i really wish i was monolid. i don't like the style i'm supposed to do anyway, too heavy.
I have very hooded eyes with low brows (they are right on or below my eye socket depending on the part of my brow). I’ve learned some tips over the years that I’d love to share: 1. Brushing your brows up is trendy rn, but it will always be there for us hooded ppl to make our eyes look bigger/more open and give us more lid space for makeup! 2. A wash of color all over your upper lid and lower lash line works well. Just make sure to bring it up high enough that you can see it when your eyes are open. It’s okay if it touches your brows a little bit. 3. Idc what anyone says, shimmers in the “crease” of hooded eyes looks beautiful and magical. Try sweeping one in there w a fluffy brush so it’s already diffused without any work 4. If you have epicanthic folds like me, blending your inner corner highlight up along the fold can look quite pretty. Most videos advise against highlighting your hood/fold but I feel like a little fairy when I do this 5. If you want that smoky liner look but your hood covers your top lash line, try applying makeup as if where your hood meets your eyelid is your lash line. With my eyes open I just smoke a dark color there and blend out w lighter color(s) like normal (use small brushes). Sometimes I will still put eyeliner on my lash line bc you can still see when you look down 6. You look down more often than you think! Your eyeshadow will still be visible sometimes :) 7. Practice when it doesn’t matter like right before you shower or right before you go to bed when you’re going to wash your face anyway Probably no one will read this but if you did I hope it somehow helped :)
Those are all such great tips! I especially love #7 because that's one everyone can use, and one I really relate to. I used to be really nervous about using brightly color eyeshadow, and was always worried it was going to look crazy and then I'd be stuck with it for a full day. So I started practicing before showing at night, and any mistakes were quickly washed away for no one to notice. Eventually I got comfortable enough to do it in the morning, and I love full, bright colorful eyeshadow looks now. It's a tip that can be applied to any new makeup technique, eg winged liner, graphic liner, contouring, etc
I read this and let me tell you, I LEARNED THAT I HAVE epicanthic folds! And not only that one is different from the other. I mean I always knew that they were, I could see it, but I had no idea that they had a name!!! Thank you, thank you!!!!
your realistic approach is so refreshing - it's almost saddening to see the average makeup guru lie to viewers about how to achieve the utterly unachievable!!
As someone with heavily hooded eyes and pretty low brows, something that was an absolute game-changer for me was shaving the ends of my brows. I draw on the tails at a higher angle and I have so much more room to work with; plus I get to play around with different brow shapes. Another thing is watching drag makeup tutorials. Lots of drag queens work against their anatomy to create beautiful eye looks, so watch what they do and take note for how you could incorporate it into your own makeup
I do the same! I have deep set eyes with low brows and I shave the tail and the bottom of the inner part of the brow to make them more straight. My brows arch quite a bit and I always looked angry now I feel like I look more awake since I just shave the bottom and tail 👌
Thank you for acknowledging that not every look can be done on all eye shapes. This makes me feel better and less like a failure. Just accepting that some methods won't work.
i just wanna say as a young woman, i really like your calmness and mature feminine vibe. you have a great personality and i love how you carry yourself. it’s inspirational for me.
I have fully hooded eyes, and I WOULD NEVER even think of doing a cut crease. Which I’m not even sorry about, really. 😆 Smokey eyes in different colours all the way baby! 💃🏼
Smoky, rich colors! Yasss! But not necessarily all matte. Some shimmers work too! But never liquid eyeliners, they take too long to dry. And my hands tremble a bit. And no tightlining, waterlining or that trendy frosty smudge on the inner corners - I have rosacea with ocular affect. All these issues, but I still enjoy colorful eye looks.
@@yenhoang8011 A smokey eye doesn’t have to be very dark. Use lighter, softer colours if that suits you better. I find blended, blown out shadow works much better on my hooded eyes than defined cut creases, graphic liner or going in with too many colours at once. ❤️
One of the hooded eye issues I never see mentioned is when the eye lid crease line extends out beyond and lower than the corner of the eye. This makes it so hard to get any kind of uplift effect from eyeshadow or eyeliner.
YES. I have an inner corner fold, no lid space, and the crease extends beyond the eyeball. I gave up and just wear mascara that smears all over my brow bone now 😆
@@RachelattheShelter I have similar eyes and have been doing korean inspired make-up. I do a light shimmer on the inner corner and first third of the lower lash line and one or two other shades for the rest of my lash line. I pull my eyeliner much lower than beauty youtubers often do (puppy style) but connect the wing to the lower lash line with black/dark eyeshadow. That way it looks like your eye is extended and not just pulled down. I really like that look :)
I have this and it makes eyeliner and shadow challenging! The best advice I've seen is that you have to ignore that part and work your eyeliner and shadow in within your eyelid. Also I like adding concealer in that area for the uplift effect. I do it before eyeshadow and afterwards.
@@leakenny1125 THIS. If you have super hooded eyes, use Korean eye makeup techniques. They are literally designed for that shape. I use that lower lash gradient all the time - you can do it in basically any colour, and at least for me, it's about the only way you're ever gonna see my eyeshadow.
As a makeup artist feeling like I’ve lost my touch this was the wake up call I needed. I’ve spent too much time wondering why I can do my clients’ makeup and see beautiful results but my own is a struggle. Because I am trying to work against nature instead of embracing what I have. The times I do I look great but when I don’t I just look crazy. Fantastic video seriously !
as a woman that loves makeup and eyeshadow looks and always wished I had more space. I appreciate you saying the truth to let people know some looks won't be achievable. Just being realistic instead selling false dreams and that is always more respectable. Love how you used pictures as well.
when i was a kid my "friends" in middle school mocked me because i had this type of eyes like jennifer lawrence. But today, I am an adult and I realized how beautiful it is and the depth it gives to the face. It is not by chance that actresses have this eyes shape. This type of look pierces the screen !
It took me SO LONG to realize that the reason every shadow look I tried to follow looked bad on me was because I have hooded eyes. Learning that changed everything. Now I don't waste my time on looks that just don't work for my kind of eye.
Yeah, so much wasted time, no? I love being older and mora aware of my shapes, colour type, favorite style - I simply stopped wasting time and money :-)
u literally didnt have to make videos for us hooded eye babes but u do and put so much effort and information in them thank you so much alexandra! have not picked up my makeup brush for years because my eye shape is difficult and i always ended up discouraged to put makeup on, but this video made me bring out all my [expired] makeup to start playing again :)
When you think about it, most of the world has at least slightly hooded eyes. I hate how beauty standards values certain eye types over others, creating so many insecurities or feelings of inadequacy. Hooded eyes -fully, slightly, etc. are so beautiful. I absolutely love this look and can’t wait to try.
i think hooded eyes are so beautiful but when I used to wear makeup it would be frustrating anyway because everything would smear and transfer. especially since i have allergies. if i did eyeliner (no matter what) i would get a dark line on my brow meat where it touched the eyeliner
Right! It’s important to have people who understand makeup theory help bridge the gap for us less-informed people so that we can understand why our makeup never seems to turn out right when we follow the popular makeup “recipes” we see. The canvas of our facial structure plays a huge role, and most of us didn’t know that from the outset.
Why always blaming beauty standards? People with hooded eyes were/are very often considered beautiful. Eva Green, Jennifer Lawrence... today. Katharine Hepburn, Ava Gardner... yesterday. Paul Newman, John Wayne, Brad Pitt, Chris Hemsworth... A LOT of looks gain something mysterious and fascinating thanks to hooded eyes! So, please, don't think you're something "less" just because many youtubers have "regular" eyes and you don't. "Regular" eyes are obviously easier to put make-up on, and offer more variety of possible combinations. But all types of eyes can be beautiful. In this case there's not beauty standards to blame, but only the excess of insecurities that sometimes affect us when comparing ourselves with other people.
This is the first hooded eye makeup tutorial that has some unique tips and tricks. I haven't looked THAT extensively, but so far every other hooded eye makeup video has been the same (unhelpful) one until this one. Thank you, Alex!
Thank you so much for being realistic. It's nice knowing that honestly, some things just won't work for me! And that's okay!! It gets frustrating when a video is like "Works on all eyes! Super easy!!" And I try to master the look for an hour to realize it won't work for me. Sometimes the realism is a great thing.
Same! In the hooded eye community I see “how do I get (X specific look, usually winged eyeliner) look on my eye shape” but like, not everything is for everyone. How do I do winged eyeliner on my very downturned outer crease, well I just don’t. Just because something is considered a classic eye makeup style doesn’t mean I have to try to be able to do it on my eye shape 😊
It's not only about being realistic, it's about feeling ok to not be able to do what everybody else does and look like everybody else. Feel good to be like yourself 😀 Love from a hooded down turned eyes girl
I’ve watched those videos, too. They don’t know us. All these blending techniques. If you have low brows and hooded lids, where ya supposed to blend to? Better to play around and create looks for small, hooded lids rather than trying to modify something meant for someone else.
I am a millennial trying to escape the lower eyeliner look I grew up with, but it really does look SO GOOD on hooded eyes. Almost like it is made for hooded eyes, I would argue this is OUR THING! Hard to say that when we are usually trying to adapt things for our hoods.
Maybe I need to try something more like what Alexandra did, but putting anything on my lower lash line just looks wrong on me. I don’t even put mascara on my lower lashes because it seems to drag my eyes down.
@@laurendao4467 same, lower lash mascara just ends up being a smudged mess and my lower lash line is very watery so I normally use a eyeshadow stick for my lower lash line , I haven't found a good eye liner for my lower lash line yet.
Yes! I can attest to skipping mascara on the lower lashline and using eyeshadow instead works alot better imo for hooded eyes. Also, I find the reverse cateye look works soo good on hooded eyes 💯👍
I love that this exists. hopefully the youngins don't have to go through that crisis we used to go through thinking that we weren't pretty enough because we didn't look like the makeup youtubers we like. Turns out we really do just have to accept and learn what works specifically for us and what doesn't! :) And to you comment lurker, I hope you feel more beautiful every day! 💜
I had no idea this is what it was called. I have partially hooded eyes, and very low brows, and my eyeshadow never shows, and this makes 100% sense why I've always struggled recreating a look.
Finally someone talked about this. I have partially hooded eyes, but my eyebrows are low, so I don't have enough space to do cut crease, for example. I regret buying eyeshadows because I don't use that anymore. I even stoped doing eyeliner, even tho there's a technique, I don't like how it looks on me. But I'm so happy that I didn't gave up on makeup, I just found ways to do it better and exactly how I like it. Thanks for giving us some tips !
I really like how realistic you’ve been throughout this video it’s so refreshing to see because I have one eye that is hooded and I can’t ever do any eye look no matter how hard I tried. I thought something was wrong with me but it’s others who lie constantly. So I give you major props for actually being truthful but also very caring: empathetic with how you said things. Thank you really enjoyed this video! You’re a real one
I have non matching eyes as well (one partially hooded) and I have just given up on making my eyes match each other, let alone what someone else is doing! that said, it is nice when a creator has actually good tips for a diverse range of eye and skin types (also in my 40s, and that "never pull your skin" tip is utter bs at this age)
When I turned 50 I stopped trying to do "eye lift" makeup. Now with hooded, crepey lids, I go for dramatic rounded shapes that make my eye look deliberately turned down. Also, yes putting color in the lower lash line and blowing it is much more fun then spending ages concealing and setting that area. I spend so much less time on that now.
Love this. I was just thinking the other day that we should make the downturned look (think Marilyn M.) a thing again. Mine are fairly hooded and I’ve always felt like I’m pretty good at makeup but I still struggle with wings and the cat eye. I think it’s time to just own this. I love the bedroom eye look!
The acknowledgement that there is a bunch of different types of hooded eyes, each with its own makeup struggles, is very refreshing! Also thanks for the inspo for lower lashline focused look. I have semi-hooded lids with reasonable amount of real estate under the brow, so I usually go for two color blend above the crease that mostly works, but figuring out a right shape and position for a winged eyeliner is an ongoing journey...
Whew you aren’t kidding. It’s the wing that’s incredibly difficult for me too. I’ve been practicing a lot for about a year and a half. 3 days ago I finally picked up some scotch tape and went that route. The result was actually great. My eyes have a different shape and hood so it’s hard to keep the liner even. The tape helped a ton. Definitely gonna play with my lower lash line.
My eye-makeup game changed big time when I discovered the lower lashline winged liner. I have been buying liquid and pencil eyeliners for years to try and get the “perfect “ cat eye… but once I discovered winged eyeliner on the bottom lash line I have for the first time been able to do perfect winged liners… sooooo much money I spent on products, when I just needed to come to terms with the fact that I won’t be able to do a winged liner on top, and that that is ok! At least I now have dozens of different types of eyeliners in all different colours to play around with on the bottom lash line 🙂
Thank you for differentiating between hooded eyes and hooded lids. The makeup tutorials about hooded eyes usually demonstrate hooded lids that are caused by aging. I have deep set eyes that are hooded, not hooded by the sagging lids but there's brow bone there, AND I have low brows too. The only space I have is somewhere towards the outer corners. I'd really appreciate if you share some everyday makeup as well as glam tutorials 😍
My skin is too old now to use these techniques but I still watch and use what I can. You are THE best make up artist I’ve ever seen. Do you think you could just do a little bit of techniques for us older women, we STILL love make up and me personally, LOVE color. And wings..lol
yes! the skin becomes so moveable that it's sometimes difficult to figure out what to do... hooded or not hooded eyes... and liquid eyeliner is just impossible.
I have hooded eyes and have learned to have fun with color. Placement of eye shadow is EVERYTHING. I also use color under my eyelashes on the bottom of my eyes. I usually use a black brown eye shadow on a flat defined brush but I use a deep purple or a deep blue or a deep bro ze UNDER the brown black eye shadow. It’s fun and I am 62 years young. No plans to stop wearing eye makeup anytime soon!! I always angle up with where I put eye shadow under my eyelashes in the bottom as well as a liner look on my top lashes.
Even if you don’t want to use color, you can still use these techniques with nudes, grays, mauves, etc. The look might be more subtle, but the effect will still be there. I do a lot of bridal makeup and clients often want a more toned down version of a colorful look. Also, being a bit older, you can still do this look but maybe play with matte shades instead of shimmer. Or mix a similar matte and shimmer color to tone down the sparkle a bit. Again, these are techniques I often use with older clients and they work. You just have to play a bit to find the right combination for you. And if you don’t like how it’s working out, just grab some micellar water, wipe it off, and start again, trying something a bit different this time. I honestly enjoy working with older clients or those with hoods, downturned eyes, etc because I get to be more creative in product choices and placement. I feel like I’m actually using my artistic muscles more. And because makeup so easily comes off, I’m not afraid to say that this look isn’t coming together how I want and I’m going to start over.
I feel like PERFECT eyebrows is key for hooded eyes. The perfect eyebrow shape and color will help keep your hooded eyes from dragging down your face and making you look tired. If you have pale eyebrows and want to dye them yourself, try the men's beard and mustache dyes. Great results, super gentle, and it lasts. Just be super careful.
I use the just for men as well. I use an old tiny gimme brow spoolie and carefully apply it. Then I leave it on longer than suggested. It stains the skin, so I have a microbladed effect for several days and don't have to fill them in 😊
I have super hooded eyes and low-set eyebrows so not much real estate to work from...my go-to classic eye makeup routine is a set of cateye falsies and my eyebrow hairs combed slightly upward with some gel. It looks SO much better on my eye shape than any cut-crease or winged eyeliner ever could
I've literally never seen anyone using makeup like this for hooded eyes - even people who actually have hooded eyes - this is super helpful! Thank you!
The background looks great against your skin and the color is so calming. This tutorial is perfect, even if my eyes are just slightly hooded. Thanks ❤️
Thank you for sharing there are different degrees of hooded eyes. I get so frustrated when people tell me my eyes aren't hooded because they're not completely covered (especially one eye). Normal eye makeup gets swallowed by my folds- nevermind typical eyeliner. Didn't realize gatekeeping eye shapes is the norm 🙄
Another big thing when it comes to hooded eyes (coming from a mua with hooded eyes) is not take part in the “thicker” or “feathered” brow trends. I find this weighs down the brow line for hooded eyes more than other eye types. Always if waxing/tweezing only do under the brow not above. Not only does it give more space to work with but it gives almost a mini brow lift.
Honestly this is probably a good tip in general but as someone with hooded eyes I have very naturally thick brows that basically exactly fit that trend and they are my favorite feature of my face, and I'd rather cut off one of my fingers before I pluck them. Absolutely good advice for people with hooded eyes and thinner brows not to make them any thicker tho.
@@evi6629 No definitely if you have them naturally and are happy with them leave them be! 😊 I personally do love the thicker brow look! My tip was more just for people looking to maximize that area of their eye. It also has lots to do with the type of hooded eyes the person has as well. Like for me even doing thinner brows it actually doesn’t open my lid up much just because my brow bone sits a bit low on my face. I always look like I’m grumpy 🤷🏻♀️😂 but for some people clearing up the under brow definitely does open that area up.
something i really appreciate about your videos is that you really make an effort to show your audience how to understand their own features and work with them instead of against them! a lot of makeup content creators don't really take that into account and work with a very narrow definition of beauty, and i love that you try to make makeup accessible to everyone and to help them understand what will or won't work for them and their face.
My favourite style for my hooded eyes is a single "wet look" shadow all over lid, brow bone and lower lash line, with mascara. I want something really high shine which will flash whenever I blink or look down.
Love the honesty! Also love that you've taken time to make hooded eye content when so many artists skip over it if they don't have hooded eyes. For someone trying to learn its been a struggle to even understand what I should be doing for my eye type when there's not much content out there! so thankyou.
I am 47 years old and for the first time in my life, I put together an eyeshadow look that really worked with my eyes after watching this video. Thank you!
Omg finally someone who can fully explain about hooded eyes/lids! My eyes are deep set, small with hooded lids. I do have enough real estate below my brows, but any tips are well appreciated! Thank you so much!!!!!
You did a great job explaining this for "regular" people, meaning non artists. I've currently got some health stuff going causing only one hooded eye. Doing one eye with the hooded technique gives the illusion that they're the same shape, no ones notices it unless I point it out. For anyone who's unsure what they can achieve with makeup, try if out before you shower if you're not going anywhere. If it sucks, it won't ruin your day but also be reallistic.
I have slightly hooded eyes kinda like the bottom two pics but my main struggle with eyeshadow is that one eye is more hooded than the other. I just try to look straight in the mirror and check that it looks symmetrical with the eyes open and looking straight. It works most of the time in minimising the asymmetric look. Also thin eyeliner. Else its just going to be liner that can be seen.
Tight lining and carrying the wing from that can also work wonders :) I have a scar from a car accident over the side of my one lid, it’s the only best for me to correct the symmetry. I feel your struggle
@@m.s.252 I didn’t at first because anything dark closes off my eyes, but there’s now a lot of wearable colors that can be fun and look good. I have brown eyes so I mostly go for greens, blues, purples. I’m super jealous of the blue and green eye people who can pull off the reds and pinks and have it not look like raging pink eye lol.
@@halo2d I'm glad you found what suits you and p.s. totally relate to you about the eye colour. I have brown eyes as well I just mostly use blue as my go to colour lol.
Feel you about asymmetrical lids. I finally figured out liner (more like found a pen I can actually draw well with), but one lid is more hooded in the center, while on the other the fold goes lower in the outer corner. It's relatively easy to line them well individually, but a struggle to make them even.
THANK YOU…As a full hooded lid person, I can’t tell you how discouraging it is to do eye makeup on yourself, especially when all you hear it how difficult they are from the pros and how they hate to have to work on them. Ok, fine, I have difficult eyes…but you just gave me the courage to think outside the box when “dealing” with them. Thank you.
This is amazing. I have the JLawrence eyes and I've always instinctively just kept my colors up higher towards the brow but I never considered doing so much with the lower lash line. Will be trying this technique out.
And then here we are, the *Neo-hooded* people: when you' ve been almond all your life but something called time doesn' t forgive anyone, makes the space disappear and you have to replace all your brushes (to almost 0 friction) and re-adapt the eyeliner technique. As a MUA, *THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH* 🖤 There' s nothing to do unless you modify nature with surgery or a shot of botox. 🧛🏻♀️🖤
@@thisorthat629 all of those reasons tbh. Hooded eyes definitely need small detail brush. Really good ones that are ideal for hooded eyes are hard to come by. And when you do have them you have to adapt it to make it work for your eyes like what Alex said
@@thisorthat629 Why dumb question? Not at all 😅🤗. If you are asking, it' s because you haven' t experienced it. At certain point of the natural aging process (for me it was circa 40 yo) your lid skin becomes less firm. It cannot be noticeable visually buuuut... when you use your all time blending brushes and make same circle motions🤦🏻♀️ just imagine the elbow skin with the arm straightened 🤣. That' s why I switched to less dense, longer brizzles and as bouncy-feathery as possible eye brushes. I also pay attention to how easy an eyeshadow blends. Just a tight ponytail effect. If I don' t like it, ok. If I like it, I' ll comment here to beg for a crowfounding😜😆. 🧛🏻♀️🖤
I really needed this video ten years ago. Thank you for helping those of us who've struggled with figuring out their hooded lids. I've given up trying to accomplish the techniques I see other people do, in favor of finding what works best for my individual needs. It has made me see the beauty of my eyes. I used to really loathe my looks. Honestly, we need to see our hooded lids as an opportunity to create different and equally beautiful styles of makeup. I love my eyes now, and I hope other people will love theirs, too.
Yeah, I stopped looking for tutorials when I realized no one had my eyelid shape. I just started messing around with makeup myself and I've come across the perfect makeup looks for me which definitely includes under eye, inner corner, and light colors to open my eyes but still look like I have makeup on. This is the tutorial I wanted when I was younger. Thank you for being realistic and helping those who are just starting out. Great work.
This is so incredible! There's next to no makeup artists who either talk about or have hooded eyes. I spent most of my teen years being frustrated not being able to recreate all the fun eyeliners (2016 instagram makeup eyeliner game). It would be incredible to have more people actually cater to the different eyeshapes.
I appreciate the way you explain the differences on hooded eyes. My goodness! I have the Blake lively, Jennifer Lawrence eyes. Like zero eyelid (that you can see). If everyone who made makeup videos touched on this so many more of us could be helped 🥺
As someone with a very low brow, it was your eyes that made me realize I did. You could layer so many colors between your crease and your brow, I cannot. You have beautiful eyes for makeup
100% agree that low brows are beautiful. But if you want to experiment with your brow placement, this is where drag queen makeup techniques really excel. There are tricks like bleaching your brows with a face-safe product, concealing, then drawing on a new brow placement. If you hate it, re-dyeing your brows with Just For Men is easy, as long as you don’t have any sensitivities.
I have partially hooded eyes, 100% yes to this. Ever since I let go of the idea that eyeshadow has to go above the eye I've been having such a better time wearing color UNDER my eyes 😅 I do EXACTLY everything you said and I second it for the non-believers. I put color in my inner corner, then on my lower lashline, and then I extend to the side and a little above towards the outer brow (my eyes kinda look like Taylor Swift's). I get a lot of compliments because these looks are striking and creative 🥰 go crazy!
Being hooded eyes is tricky. Having olive skin tone is tricky. Being hooded eye green skin person is tough af. It took me several years to work this sht out. And it wouldn't happen without your help so big thank you for your advices;)
Genuinely life changing. I'm only just getting into the eyeshadow game and everything I've tried so far were just..meh. Following this is going to teach me how to deal with my small hooded eyes finally! Thank you so much for this.
YES! Thank you for speaking about managing expectations, first and foremost. Just because we want something, doesn't mean we can have it! I've learned to love my hooded eyes, but with my glasses magnifying my eyes, I always have to adapt my placement and technique, even if I'm copying a look from someone with my exact eye shape to avoid the magnification dragging my eye down and creating too much shadow on my lower lid. Great tutorial, as usual!
The only ones that helped me with fully hooded eye make-up with almost zero realestate, are you and wayne goss. You’ve helped me tons to work with colours. Thank you!
for those with fully hooded eyes, VIOLET CHACHKI is a rlly good reference for eye makeup, especially cut crease. she straight up draws eyelids on and looks amazing
i'm glad i discovered what the term for this is. i'm 24 now but my entire life every time i try to get into makeup, i always felt like there was something wrong with my face and it just didn't work for me. ever since i discovered the term 'hooded eyes' i realized that was why it was so difficult for me to follow makeup tutorials that were not meant for people without hooded eyes
As someone with fully hooded, slightly bulging eyes, i just want to say that false lashes or lash extensions are your go to instead of liner that has a high chance of getting smudged or disappear when the hood covers the liner.
Yes!!!more tutorials on hooded eyes!! I've been considering getting a brow lift because is soooo frustrating when you try to recreate a look and just can't... thank you Alex!!!!
i don't have hooded eyes, but i'd love to see a tutorial for down-turned, sydney sweeney kinda eyes. every tutorial out there is about a lot of lifting and trying to "fix" it, and there's only so far you can go with it without it looking really weird, since it goes completely opposite to the natural shape of my eyes. you're the one makeup artist on youtube who gives great tips for being realistic and working with your anatomy instead of against it to follow every current trend, so i'd really love to see a video about this!
I’d like to suggest u to bring a friend or even a follower with those features and try making a video applying those tips to them! That’d be really helpful if we could visualize that ^^ love u, queen ❤
You straight up are the best I love how realistic and genuine you are thank you for pushing out these videos for people who suck at doing make up like me 😘🥰🤘🏼❤️
OMG THANK YOU! In more than 10 years of beauty yt, no one ever addressed the fact that there are tons of different hooded eyes! Having the lid covered in the inner corner, in the middle or in the outer corner changes drastically the effect you're going to get! not to even mention a full hooded eye... I've a central hooded lid, with a little bit of space in the inner corner and outer corner and very high eyebrows and I had the hardest time converting so called "hooded eyes makeups" to my eyes. (and No, asian tutorials won't necessarily work for every hooded eye. let's say it once for all). I'm sorry, I've been triggered by this topic for so long that it's almost moving to see someone being realistic for once.
I mainly do alternative makeup, but this was still super helpful! I have a lot of trouble doing things like intricate eyeliner, so I usually stick with a bold and chunky wing. This vid has given me a lot of ideas for new eye looks, thank you so much for making it 🙏
My eye shape is similar to Blake’s and I’ve recently been really enjoying just a shimmer (especially a duochrome or multichrome) all the way from the lashline to the brow, and diffusing it laterally at the outer corner also. It can also be really helpful to adjust your brow shape to give you more space to do this. I shave a couple of millimetres off my brow tail so that they’re more straight, as the part of my natural brow shape that slopes back down closes off my eye and gives me less of that outer eye space to work with! Doing this and putting definition on the outside portion of your eyes (whether it’s smoking it out like Alex or using a diffused shimmer) makes that sagging brow portion of your lid look less heavy I never wear any makeup (shadow, mascara or liner) on my lower lashline for the reason you mentioned on Taylor Swift
Same here! I like to use one color and blend out all the way to my brows and it seems to look really nice. I also don’t wear anything on my lower lid/lashes because it just makes my eyes look so droopy. My eyes protrude quite a bit, so my lower lids are more rounded than most. Anything on them just accentuates that roundedness.
I did something similar to my brows too. I plucked off the hairs (my skin is too sensitive to shave in that area). It gave me a little more space and extend my eye makeup out.
This is THE most helpful video I've ever seen on hooded eyes, especially as you don't have hooded eyes to begin with. I have watched so many videos where people just don't even seem to know what a hooded eye is, and are cranking out all of this 'advice' on how to do eyeshadow or.... winged liner... For the love of god, I cannot do it!! I even had a MAKEUP ARTIST tell me my eyes weren't hooded. I think I know, I have been battling them for the past 15 years. I'm 28 years old and this is the first time I felt that someone actually understood and is giving fun, creative ideas on how to work with your hooded eyes/lids. First video I've seen from you (and I'm not even finished) but 100% checking out the rest of your channel. Please do more videos like this! There is such a market for it!
One of the things that I wish I knew when I was first learning makeup was I should know my features first. I was wondering what I was doing wrong when I was following tutorials well and it didn't turn out the way I wanted. I wish I knew Alexandra then and that more people in the beauty commmunity talk in depth about what techniques work and doesn't work for different facial features.
This is literally the ONLY hooded eye tutorial video that’s actually been helpful to me. I have very hooded eyes and literally every other tutorial I’ve watched has just resulted in my eyes looking bleh and not right. I’m so excited to try these tips because I know they’ll work miles better for me! Thank you SO MUCH for acknowledging the differences!! I would love it if you included makeup variations for us very hooded folks in your videos. 🥰
Since I'm a tall person with a longer face, idk if it's necessarily related, but I do prefer emphasizing the lower lashline than my partially hooded lid. Snatched everything on top makes my mid face too empty. Bring on the lower lashline fun, matte too! Contouring the eyebag, it suits so well.
I wish I found this video 5 years ago, but as someone who has played around and experimented a lot on a hooded canvas, yes, yes, a thousand times yes to literally everything Alex said
This video was so helpful and so comforting to watch. It made me feel heard and understood and it’s nice to unite all us hooded eye folks! Thank you so much Alex! I’ve found something that’s really important is to simply remind myself that hooded eyes are actually seriously beautiful. To boost my confidence I look at pictures of Claudia Schiffer, literally one of the most famous supermodels ever, and she’s got really hooded eyes and they’re so powerful! They make her look like a warrior queen or a tigress, but they can also be super sensitive and feminine. Tbh a lot of 90s supermodels have a range of hooded eyes, but I think we all feel a bit underrepresented at the moment because we see a lot of makeup looks online on people with lots of lid space just because it’s been the recent trend for the last decade or so.
I love how detailed this video is. I've never seen anyone break down hooded eyes like this. I'm sorry people have been dismissing your tutorials because you "don't have hooded eyes" Your techniques are still valid. BTW I'm 5'2 too! 🥰
It's always interesting seeing makeup from a perspective of a makeup artist who has a background in painting. It seems people with that experience see color, definition and structure in a whole different way which is always enlightening. Not to mention how everyone's face is unique and different things work for different people, so the transparency and directness in your channel is very appreciated. What a pro!
u r literally the most gentle, accomodating and welcoming youtube-make-up artist ive ever seen while keeping it honest and real. so much gratitude to finally have found what seems to be a very safe place for me!! i deeply deeply love make up, but i just dont feel comfortable or like i "fit in" in so many tutorials...... so yeah hope to binge watch ur channel as much as i can 💗💜💖💕
This video made my heart sing as someone with fully hooded eyes. I've followed "Winged eyeliner for hooded eyes" for YEARS, for as many years as I have been doing my makeup (a lot.) I hope that lots and lots of makeup artists and beauty influencers see this video and make more videos for the different kinds of hoods. I can't wait to get to try out all of the looks you taught us! I've literally gone my whole life without trying to put fun stuff in my inner corner, lol.
If you have extremely hooded lids the Chinese/ Korean makeup tricks really look gorgeous. Like, matte lids and crease and then focusing the shimmer on the lower lash line closer to the inner corner and drawing your eyes outwards with darker shades even contouring the bottom of your eye bag to open it up more.
There' s a second alternative for eyeliner on hoodies (the first is the bat you did recently🙌🏻). The other is start the wing where the lower lashline ends and simply draw a wing more horizontally staying away from the upper fold. (Kinda like what Taylor has in HER right eye). An oblique angle is not compulsory. Lower lashline for the win!!💪🏻
WOW! I have watched so many tutorials for hooded eyes and as a 41 year old woman I gave up on eye makeup and always admire other people's makeup, but felt like maybe I just was less of a woman b/c this just never ever works for me. I have tried everything and have Loooooong ago given up hope! However, I wanted to do a little makeup for my halloween costume this year and found this tutorial for my semi-hooded eyes and HOLY COW! THIS HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING! Thank you so much for your detailed tips and tricks. I am going to the store to buy new brushes and eye shadow so I can keep doing eye makeup from now on!
this look is also so great for those of us with the deepest set eyes that end up with craters for undereyes (which is absolutely fine to have, I'm trying to learn that) love this shimmery lower lash look for that
I’d love to see a vid for oily eyes/eyes that transfer makeup easily, ie, if I wore this look I KNOW that green would fade & be smudged 3 inches lower than the Initial placement within 5 mins, even with primers!
Me too and the eye liner always transfers off my eyes at the corner so I end up with black blobs at the end of my eyes coming down towards the cheek 🤦♀️
@@carolann6158 ugh it’s the worst! We can’t do all those sultry cat eye looks were they bring in the liner to the inner corner & smoke out the bottom lash line because we know it’ll be all over our face/nose as soon as we blink 😭
Oily lid make up artist here 😆. I’ve tried all the primers and setting powders nothing really works. The positive is I’m 35 with not a single wrinkle on my face 😆.
🙋🏻♀️ preach sister😃 For real! My skin is not oily but the combination of droopy hooded oily eyelids makes for everything Sliding Down to my cheekbones 😳
This was super helpful. I didn’t understand for years that the reason my makeup didn’t look like everyone else’s was because I have hooded eyes and also my eyes are small on top of that. I love that you encourage everyone to be creative and find what works for you, and you had some great tips here! Thank you.
Thankyou for this honest hooded eye video Alexandra. The past few years my eyes have started to droop and i thought there was no way I can wear makeup on my lids now, but you have changed my perception, as I realise now that I can work with the space that I have and that I’m not as hooded as I thought I was. Also showing pictures of gorgeous celebrities with hooded eyes have made me feel better. so Thankyou for your honesty and for your creative advice. You have one very happy subscriber 🥰❤️
Lately here is what I do, if that helps : I use a shimmery crayon around the eye, inner corner and in the water line to make it look more "open" (I found a Charlotte Tilbury eye crayon that does not transfer, a miracle!), and if I feel like going glamorous I just add the tiniest triangle of a darker shadow or crayon in the outer corner to make the eye look catty XD
Long lasting and transfer proof is our graal
Have you tried koreans tutorials?
@@nikkiblake3896 I have never been able to do them since my hooded eyes are since I was a kid😑
If your crease drop below the outer corner of the eye then winged eyeliner is just not possible. That kind of very low crease is common in scandinavian countries and a Swedish makeup artist explained it. She said it is better to experiment with getting cat eye looks with fake eyelashes.
I didn’t know for years that I had hooded eyes. I would follow eye shadow tutorials and then think “Um..where did it go?”
Lmao same.
😭😂😂
💀 same
same lol
Exactly. Thank you 💗
I really love how she understands the problem and actually tries to help us hooded eye people without being unrealistic. Thank you so much! A hooded eyed girl:)
Hooded eyes girls go watch more east asian (Korean &Chinese &Japanese)make up tutorials which help a lot
So many makeup artists forget not everyone's face looks like theirs and facial anatomy is the most important part of makeup 😅.
as someone with quite hooded eyes, learning how to do korean/ japanese/ chinese makeup is honestly a game changer, as it's specifically for monolids (but also obviously looks great on hooded eyes) and just complements my eyes a lot more (especially the liner works more)
That means you don’t have severe hooded eyes.
@@di3486 no she just doesn't have deep set eyes also. Thats clearly the issue
@@cryptiddy if Asian tutorials work for her then her issue isn’t as severe.
@@brbsnortingcatnip What did you wanted to write? Staphylococcus or something?
For the LONGEST TIME I didn't know hooded eyes were a thing, I just thought my eyelids were stupid 😭 I remember my dance teachers getting so frustrated whenever we'd do show makeup bc it would never look "right" on my eyes
Same here :( I always wanted to do eyeliner and nothing ever worked for me. Even my eye shadow smudges and nothing stays.
I just lol’d….” Were stupid”…cause same 🙋🏼♀️
That's hurtful, especially toward a child. Some people are so ignorant. I'm really sorry you had to go through that.
I love you pfp and username 😭💗
I feel like Asian beauty tutorials would be the best for those with fully hooded eyes since they are MADE for that. There definitely is a lot of focus on the lower eyelid, and probably why they do the whole "aegyosal" (under-eye crease definition) in Korean makeup.
I am so jealous of ppl with eye bags bc they can do the cute aegyo. I've got extreme hoods AND hollow, sunken undereyes. :')
more for monolids, not hooded eyes.
absolutely and also because korean eye makeup works well with people with low brows because they don't blow out their eyeshadow like we do in the west. they keep the shadow with the eyelid fold.
well I'm asian and have an eye shape similar to Jennifer Lawrence and the Korean tutorials never help me that much. they mostly have double eyelids. and the ones that don't, have monolids. the aegyosal stuff is cute, but its a different thing, its just a way to emphasize the fat there to look cute. this video helped me a lot more
@@EmmahBeep YES
Yes, so helpful! Realize I have only Slightly Hooded eyes and tutorials tend to lump all hooded shapes together. 👍🏻👍🏻
@gorillazgirlie I shave my brows off and redraw them on a bit higher to give me more room coz I have quite low brows .
as someone who is asian, I think hooded eyelids are so pretty because you can really play with that brow bone area and make your face looks so angsty and chiseled when done correctly. makeup trends only reflect everyone's anatomy so much until it just becomes undoable for those of us who are the minority. I like cut creases they are so pretty-- but I'd love to see my hooded baddies embrace their beautiful parts.
Sounds like you need to make some videos!! Xx
if you have a low brow bone there isn‘t anything to play with lol also tired of looking grumpy gonna get a brow lift fr
i always wish that i was asian or had korean eyes because koreans have reached the nirvana in eye makeup (or makeup in general tbh) and there's so many pretty things to do with it, easy too, because of the eye shape. i do have hooded eyes but the korean makeup doesn't work for me. i really wish i was monolid. i don't like the style i'm supposed to do anyway, too heavy.
Asian tutorials are a treasure as they have more experience in playing around with hooded eyes/lids!
I have very hooded eyes with low brows (they are right on or below my eye socket depending on the part of my brow). I’ve learned some tips over the years that I’d love to share:
Try sweeping one in there w a fluffy brush so it’s already diffused without any work
4. If you have epicanthic folds like me, blending your inner corner highlight up along the fold can look quite pretty. Most videos advise against highlighting your hood/fold but I feel like a little fairy when I do this
5. If you want that smoky liner look but your hood covers your top lash line, try applying makeup as if where your hood meets your eyelid is your lash line. With my eyes open I just smoke a dark color there and blend out w lighter color(s) like normal (use small brushes). Sometimes I will still put eyeliner on my lash line bc you can still see when you look down
6. You look down more often than you think! Your eyeshadow will still be visible sometimes :)
7. Practice when it doesn’t matter like right before you shower or right before you go to bed when you’re going to wash your face anyway
Probably no one will read this but if you did I hope it somehow helped :)
I will try your shimmer tip right away, it sounds so cute! And I definitely need more magical fairy vibes in the morning ✨🌟
@@malinelli. I hope u like it!
I play with liner before bed because I'm determined to find something that looks good. Also, shimmer rocks! You're tips are great!
Agree! I didn't have to shave my brows, they thinned over time from too much plucking. But I love being able to adjust the shape and lift on my brows.
I was about to say as a drag queen, yeah we do that a lot lol
I do the same! I have deep set eyes with low brows and I shave the tail and the bottom of the inner part of the brow to make them more straight. My brows arch quite a bit and I always looked angry now I feel like I look more awake since I just shave the bottom and tail 👌
@@Helvetica09 my face looks sad and angry and that's why people hate me and that's how I became sad and angry.
Just (half) kidding
Personally, that’s a very fake and artificial look in my opinion. I find the ideas given in the video way more elegant.
Yup!! My everyday is a Smokey eye. 😌 even pick Smokey eyes don’t even look that dramatic on me 😂
Smoky, rich colors!
Smokey always makes me look like I was beaten up 😞
Yessssss. I agree. A Smokey eye is a hooded eye’s bestie for liiiife!!
The struggle Dx
Amen girl! I’m with ya! It’s bloody frustrating isn’t it. X
as a woman that loves makeup and eyeshadow looks and always wished I had more space.
Wow I always felt insecure about my hooded eyes and honestly your comment makes me feel a bit better. Thank you!
It took me SO LONG to realize that the reason every shadow look I tried to follow looked bad on me was because I have hooded eyes. Learning that changed everything. Now I don't waste my time on looks that just don't work for my kind of eye.
Yeah, so much wasted time, no? I love being older and mora aware of my shapes, colour type, favorite style - I simply stopped wasting time and money :-)
u literally didnt have to make videos for us hooded eye babes but u do and put so much effort and information in them
thank you so much alexandra! have not picked up my makeup brush for years because my eye shape is difficult and i always ended up discouraged to put makeup on, but this video made me bring out all my [expired] makeup to start playing again :)
Seems like hooded eyes are looked down upon by the world 😁
i think hooded eyes are so beautiful but when I used to wear makeup it would be frustrating anyway because everything would smear and transfer. especially since i have allergies. if i did eyeliner (no matter what) i would get a dark line on my brow meat where it touched the eyeliner
Right! It’s important to have people who understand makeup theory help bridge the gap for us less-informed people so that we can understand why our makeup never seems to turn out right when we follow the popular makeup “recipes” we see.
The canvas of our facial structure plays a huge role, and most of us didn’t know that from the outset.
This 100%. Hooded eyes are beautiful and should be celebrated!
I dont have hoooded eyes but this person's personality is calming and down to earth so I just watched the video
Feel good to be like yourself 😀
Love from a hooded down turned eyes girl
I’ve watched those videos, too. They don’t know us. All these blending techniques. If you have low brows and hooded lids, where ya supposed to blend to?
Better to play around and create looks for small, hooded lids rather than trying to modify something meant for someone else.
I am a millennial trying to escape the lower eyeliner look I grew up with, but it really does look SO GOOD on hooded eyes. Almost like it is made for hooded eyes, I would argue this is OUR THING! Hard to say that when we are usually trying to adapt things for our hoods.
CN u give an example on this look??
I mean photo or link
I just do mascara lol
I really like how realistic you’ve been throughout this video it’s so refreshing to see because I have one eye that is hooded and I can’t ever do any eye look no matter how hard I tried. I thought something was wrong with me but it’s others who lie constantly. So I give you major props for actually being truthful but also very caring: empathetic with how you said things. Thank you really enjoyed this video! You’re a real one
Same here =\
They are obviously lying. All you have to do is look at their eyes which generally are not even hooded. It’s ridiculous. I’ve never fallen for it.
@@elsagrace3893 well Thts great then for u. Congrats you must be so proud
I hope to get better at accepting what I have and playing up the features I love instead of fighting against what I don’t like as much.
I don't even watch make up related videos anymore but yours are such a nice treat once in a while, just to see someone be real about those issues
Omg finally someone with the same type of eyes
finally! hello eye twin 😉
Make that an eye triplet :) let's make our heavy brows and deep set, hooded eyes assets instead of nuisances!
I’m 60 and you can definitely pop some light-reflecting shadow in your inner corner.
And because makeup so easily comes off, I’m not afraid to say that this look isn’t coming together how I want and I’m going to start over.
i have a 75 yo friend and she is always rocking golden shimmery eyes! 😍
Yes I use just for men beard and mustache dye. Helps a lot
I use the just for men as well. I use an old tiny gimme brow spoolie and carefully apply it. Then I leave it on longer than suggested. It stains the skin, so I have a microbladed effect for several days and don't have to fill them in 😊
@Jessica hier depends on your face & eye shape
@@deecee7042
I wish the Just For Men worked for me. I did it, and I had an allergy to the dye.
Thank you!
I just found her channel and I love how genuine and chill she is. ❤ No fake high energy "HeYwHaTsUpYouGuyS" etc. Subbed 🎉
So true
i do the same thing
yesss!! same!! so true about the mini brow lift it gives
Most helpful tutorial for hooded eyes of all type ever!! I have "Jennifer Lawrence" eyes and omg it's impossible to find good tutorials for them!
Finally! The truth! Followed by detailed, useful techniques. Love that you kept it real. Thank you 😊
Work a day in your life...
My favourite style for my hooded eyes is a single "wet look" shadow all over lid, brow bone and lower lash line, with mascara. I want something really high shine which will flash whenever I blink or look down.
Ooh that's great! Does it kind of crease over the day after blinking a lot?
Any recs for favourite "wet look" eyeshadows? I feel like this would work well for me.

Find an occuoplastic surgeon who knows about fixing the central levator tendon. Most don’t know about. I went to Dr. Steinsapir.
@@halo2d that definately works . I don't like putting anything in my waterline so I just do the wing part.
dumb question, why would u have to replace all ur brushes? size or because of, new, texture or smt else?
If it glides heavenly like a MAC Powder Kiss👍🏻💫. If it needs more friction, it' s a no-no🤷🏻♀️. I' m gonna turn 48 in one week and, why not?, my first shot of botox will be my self present. Just a tight ponytail effect. If I don' t like it, ok. If I like it, I' ll comment here to beg for a crowfounding😜😆. 🧛🏻♀️🖤
Same my friend. Almond 4EVER. Then 40 hit and time forgets no one. Lol
@@lololop58 do you have recs for good hooded eye brushes?
It's good to know what you're working with. Cara Delevingne, Emma Watson, and Rachel Weisz have lower brows and they're all stunning ❤️
many gorgeous women have low brow and hooded eyes , you just need to find best way for enhance your beauty ^^ p.s. Eva Green for example !

This video is INCREDIBLE!! I follow so many MUA's that have hooded eyes but don't give anything helpful. This is a God sent!
It’s refreshing to actually learn tips and techniques from a UA-camr again. Most of the beauty videos have boiled down to “looks” and “reviews” only
As someone with fully hooded, slightly bulging eyes, i just want to say that false lashes or lash extensions are your go to instead of liner that has a high chance of getting smudged or disappear when the hood covers the liner.
Doing this and putting definition on the outside portion of your eyes (whether it’s smoking it out like Alex or using a diffused shimmer) makes that sagging brow portion of your lid look less heavy
I never wear any makeup (shadow, mascara or liner) on my lower lashline for the reason you mentioned on Taylor Swift
Today I discovered I have hooded lids, not hooded eyes- LOVE these tips; they actually work 🙏🏻🙌🏻
This is THE most helpful video I've ever seen on hooded eyes, especially as you don't have hooded eyes to begin with.
I wish I found this video 5 years ago, but as someone who has played around and experimented a lot on a hooded canvas, yes, yes, a thousand times yes to literally everything Alex said
Wow! Pure genius. You opened a whole creative universe for me. Thank you!
Very good point! I agree!!
I cannot thank you enough…this came just in time. I have really been struggling with my mature hooded lids.
I love how your videos are always straight to the point and explanatory
this look is also so great for those of us with the deepest set eyes that end up with craters for undereyes (which is absolutely fine to have, I'm trying to learn that) love this shimmery lower lash look for that
Yesss!! Please absolutely give us more alternatives for hooded eyes in your tutorials. This video was SUPER helpful! Moar!!!
Specially if we live in hot climate countries, eyeshadow primer? Pfft tried her, she melts on my eyes
