Do you think you’ll ever get a model/friend with hooded eyes to come onto the channel and you’ll show us exactly how you do your eyes vs their eyes for the same look?
this would make a great series -- hooded eyes, people without much space between the tail end of the brow and the corner of the eye, etc (I have both so its really challenging from both aspects for me)
Yeeessssss!!!!!! I'm tired of the plethora of makeup artists giving advice for hooded lids by working on their not hooded lids. The hell with "suspend disbelief", I need to see the real thing. For once I want to see this kind on stuff on actual hooded lids.
For anybody that has hooded eyes, I give you this tip. Don't lift your lid, tilt your head back and look down your nose at the mirror. This extends your upper lid without stretching stuff and pulling on the skin under your eyes. Learned this tip a few years ago and it's been the only way I can put my eyeliner on ever since.
These videos are so helpful, but what would be way more beneficial is if you could partner with someone who actually has hooded eyes so we can see what it really looks like rather than just playing around with your skin in places it doesn't naturally sit
I have extremely hooded eyes (plus a very similar "coloring" as you, mid-olive light skin tone - I also understand the struggle), and I am amazed at how insightful and talented you are as a MUA, because every little detail you are explaining is basically exactly how I ended up doing my makeup after years of trials and errors, including the "ignore the downward line" bit. As obvious as it should be, I don't think I've ever seen an MUA with non-hooded lids actually pulling down their eyelids to show how the placement of the makeup would actually look like. It is so refreshing and validating! You are on par with THE Lisa Eldridge
I’m 49 & USED TO have almond eyes…but now I have hooded eyes & had to change my eye routine. I do what u-brilliant chica-showed here. Glad I’m doing it correctly😘
I work with a lot of trans women (I am also trans) who are starting transition (I'm a wig stylist) 😂 and I always tell them to binge your videos to help understand makeup application. No frills. Straight to the point. Solid advice with lots of detail. Legend! Love from Meanjin, Aus x
I always appreciate your hooded eye makeup videos, because hooded eyes really are challening. My hoods extend below the outer corner of my eyes, but I also have a ton of "hood space" below my brows with some visible lid spade above the lashline. And my hoods actually look puffy and almost swollen. If I ever met you in person, I'd hire you to teach me in person how to optimize my hooded eyes.
Do you guys have allergies? I am both an allergy sufferer and a hooded eye person and can develop super puffed lids and under eye bags. (I am also a licensed physician and clinical pharmacologist) and some of these have helped Temporary fixes: very low concentration steroid cream for one or two days, especially if your under eye bags are showing. Do NOT do this frequently because it can weaken the skin and increase the pressure in your eye (glaucoma inducing). But if you are having pictures taken or an important event, it helps your eyes look more normal. Caffeine-containing serum you can use every day, it doesn't help in the lung run but it helps reabsorb the liquid into the circulation and de-puff. Medium term solution: Botox or Dyspro (about 25 units per eye) in the outer corner of the orbicularis muscle, so basically what you would get for crow's feet. It helps all that liquid drain into the facial circulation and it really makes a difference. Long term solution: plasma jet blepharoplasty. It's a non invasive procedure that tightens the eyelid. I had it done on my upper lids because after 35 my eyes started drooping beyond normally hooded eyes and it was AMAZING. The recovery period is about three days, you need to use a special eye cream for a couple of weeks before and after and be very disciplined with your sunscreen and sunglasses, so that results last longer. I will do it on the lower lids soon too. Obviously get treatment for eye and nose allergies, since those are the main culprits of puffiness, your primary care physician can give you a prescription for olopatadine or sodium cronoglicate eye drops, and a steroid nasal spray like mometasone or fluticasone. As always, consult your healthcare provider before buying medication, to check for contraindications and good use instructions.
@@ladosis5596 - No allergies for me. I was just born with these puffy, hooded eyes. I won't do anything like botox or plastic surgery unless there's a medical need rather than for vanity. Thank you for you insight and input.
The way you did this by pulling your lid down and then once you let it go showing how high up it can go just proves your point about everything you showed us. I have watched a lot of hooded eye tutorials, and I’ve always had hooded eyes, but they’ve always been beautiful but now that I’m 60 they’re getting to be where I don’t know what to do anymore, and this has been so amazingly helpful because there’s proof in your pudding! Also everyone is always said with eyes you want to focus on the center of your eyelashes to bring them up, but I can’t see mine no matter what I do unless I have no eyeshadow on and then they just look terrible anyway so I always used to do my outer corner And pull it to the side, but everybody has changed that method except for you so I’m going back to the way I used to do my eyes when they were hooded which was basically this way except I think I need to lift up more on the outer portion of my hood because I have a lot of space because I really don’t have any eyebrows either so I have to create my own eyebrows. Thank you so much.
Oh my god...did I just manifest? Cause yesterday I was watching your old videos, and your hooded eye videos and thought I wish she comes up with nore hooded eye videos.....and today.....oh my goddd🧿✨🤍
I have deeply hooded eyes and thick, straight brows that can touch my eyelashes, and this is exactly what i do! Every single technique here is pretty much at play everytime i time put on makeup. A lot of what i do is just extending the shape outward to give an illusion of more open eyes. I learned all of this from my mother, who went to cosmetology school back in the 80's! These techniques are timeless and well tested.
The hooded eye gang thanks you! Honestly, this has immediately been added to my favourites and shall be my new go-to. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate this xx
i truely believe the key for makeup on hooded eyes is that you should not do harsh lines. this will not help but that "line" blended/blurred will look so good also instead of darker colours use toned down colours like you did here. browns and taupes or even burgundy!
Thank you SO MUCH for these tutorials. I have insane hooded eyes and I struggle so bad with how to apply eyeshadow and liner. It’s an every day battle. Makes me sad sometimes when I see cute eyeshadow looks, and try to recreate them but fail miserably…
Girl, your kind heart and intention show in this video. You really wanted to demo and have great visuals for beginners. Hooded eyes kept me from eye looks for a very long time but I’m a free bird now lol
DUDE. I have suuuper hooded eyes, and I feel like I’ve really mastered my personal makeup look over time… and I swear to you… this is spot-on the way I do my makeup. I’m trippin out. I feel like my entire life’s been validated in this moment 💯😭

Great video, Alex! Speaking as one of the Hooded Eye Club, any and all tips and tricks to use with this kind of eyelid is always welcome. And as a few folks have mentioned, have you considered having someone with hooded eyes be in a tutorial video? Someone else noticed that you seem to be 'shining' and that's such a great description of your mood in this tutorial. I am so glad to hear you're starting to feel more like yourself again, because ~not~ feeling that way makes it hard to get through life. Yay for better mental health! 😻

I have small hooded/downturned eyes, low eyebrows, and some wrinkles on the outer sides of my eyelids. (Similar to Wayne Goss eye shape). Needless to say, I don't have a lot of room for eyeshadows or winged eyeliners. However, small detailed brushes have helped me greatly improve my technique! Although, I do enjoy playing with various eyeshadow colors and shapes to stay inspired, typically I stick with my natural eye shape (i.e. one eyeshadow color on the lid, a medium/dark shadow in the crease, and a light eyeshadow blended above my crease). Trying to recreate a smokey eye or winged eyeliner with small hooded/downturned eyes tends to make my eyes look even smaller. But I'll still try something different from my normal routine from time to time!
