- Okay but, I actually really loved the Lightning Returns and the entire Final Fantasy XIII trilogy??? It was so beautiful despite the issues it may have. I love games that can make me cry. ;-;

They sorta did this with FFX tho...the ending they tag on after the ending. To me bith games end perfectly and i feel those last bits in both endings are kinda unnessecary

I love how the game straight up just turns Lightning into a fashion icon in the midst of an apocalypse.
Lightning plays the role of Jesus Christ in this game. Lightning is mankind's savior and is reborn. I hate the story as it plays into Gnosticism and the false belief that we all are god ourselves because we all have the 'God seed' in us all. We just need to open our third eye and realize we are God. That is heresy to the one true God that created all of this universe.

Naoshi Mizuta yep...criminally underated. They wrote for FF11 too and the music in that is better than any other mainline title tbh. Masashi Hamauzu also underated.
Its difficult when Uematsu (awesome composer) has contributed so much i guess
@@nezkeys79 Even Uematsu recognizes his talent and recommended him as lead composer on the FFVII Remake. Masayoshi Soken (FFXIV's composer) is also great.

I don't think it's underrated because even people who dislike XIII will often give its soundtrack props. I think it's under-appreciated in the sense that people don't often count it among the very best game soundtracks. For me, XIII is my favorite soundtrack ever, but XIII-2 and LR are right up there. Since 7R came out, though, people have been giving Suzuki and Hamauzu a lot of props for the amazing 7R soundtrack, and they deserve it. They knocked that one out of the park.
I played this a few months after my fiance passed away and it really helped me work through some of the grief. It will always special to me.

The FF13 trilogy is both tragic and beautiful, and its stellar soundtrack takes everything to yet another level. I've played hundreds upon hundreds of games over the last forty years, but the experience I had with FF13 (and LR in particular) is the only one that still lingers on my mind. P.S: I think the time mechanic in LR was crucial to the game because it lent weight to the fact that the world was moving towards its inevitable end.
I'm just glad for people like you Sarah who gave this one a shot and not get thrown with the bandwagoning hate. For someone like you who loves FF7 and is invested with the franchise, I love how you only said good words about it! Love you!
This is my literal favorite Final Fantasy game. I am pretty upset that there seems to be a real chance Square is going to not HD remake it for the PS4. Apparently the Steam version isnt all that....great...
IT'S SO GOOOOD. I played on steam and it wasn't bad at all. XIII-2 is the one that doesn't work well.

Not enough time left in PS4s life cycle, plus the graphics are still so good on 13, years later. I’d bet on a PS5 remaster, especially cause 12 just got remastered. Be patient my dude. It’ll come. Wouldn’t surprise me if. They released a remaster for the whole trilogy as a bundle, like they did for X and X-2

I love the XIII trilogy. Happy to see someone else like it for once. Sadly I never got finish Lightning Returns. My XBOX 360 broke when I was playing it so I never got finish it. Still hoping that Square releases all 3 games for ps4, even if it's just on the playstation store.
Idk if they ever added it on ps4/5 but it's been back compatible on xbox the whole time. Might just need to cop an Xbox

Almost...i think that accolade goes to FFX...but damn this is a close second. In fact the more i watch this the more it creeps up as a tie or even #1 like you say.
The endings of 10 13 13-2 13-3 and 15 are the best 5 for me. Graphically and musically the 13 trilogy is so pretty and beaitiful. Naoshi Mizuta and Masashi Hamauzu are so underated. All of them made me cry and i do not understand why people have anything bad to say about any of the games in this franchise. Its really sad they never get to see/feel the emotion in this because theyre still pre occupied with "hallway sim" 2 hours into ff13 🤷♀️

FFX ending is best ever. XIII is second favorite for me. Lightning Returns ending is great, but it doesn't really compare to X and XIII for me. It is the kind of ending that a trilogy deserves (you hear that, Mass Effect 3?), but had that been how a single game ended, I would have said it was a little bit too grandiose and convenient. When it's a standalone game, you can only go so far. XII had a really beautiful ending, too. Notice I didn't mention XV.

People trash the 13 trilogy but praise 7 remake which is guilty and utilizes SO many things 13 trilogy did. Trash 13, yet praise 7 for many of hte same design choices. It just shows me how pathetic hte general public can be with crafting their own opinions

I am totally on board with this “give the current protagonist all the outfits of past protagonists,” and changing NPC dialogues according to your outfit. That was actually a really subtle, awesome touch. I love details like that.

The best endings by far imo. Both are beautiful aesthetically, musically, and storywise. I will never understand why this trilogy is trashed as much as it is because it was so special to me

Imagine having preordered XIII-2, excited to save the world, and then find yourself screaming at the screen, and then having to wait years to get any resolution. That's why Lightning Returns was such a redeeming game for me. It was the ending this trilogy needed. We really deserved a happy ending after what XIII-2 did to us. It finally makes XIII-2 playable again. I had just finished playing Prince of Persia (2008), which kind of has the same kind of ending, and I was furious at that game, too, but at least Square gave us a resolution with LR. As for the time mechanic, Majora's Mask is one of my two favorite games ever (along with FFX), so clearly, it doesn't bother me. And to the end of my days, I will defend the XIII trilogy.

You're still gonna get steam rolled on easy in this game. Luckily you didn't pick normal because the bosses would make you give up. This is easily the hardest final fantasy I've ever played and I played them all except 11 and 14. You actually have to think and be tactical in this game and that's why it has my favorite battle system in the series.
It does make sense actually. Noel changed when he realized yeul wouldn't want him to kill someone who was his friend. Lightning changed him or rather saved him as a savior. All her friends lose hope including her. She boxed herself up. It wasn't God who took her emotions it was her. She was mourning her friends after they stopped looking for a new future. Lightning wanted to show them that this wasn't the end for them.

Honestly loved the FF13 trilogy. Nice to see someone else enjoy it! Kinda wish we had gotten the party from the first game fighting Caius in the Lightning Returns world setting. Brings the best element of each game in my opinion.
I love how at first, all the Yeuls speak in unison, but then they stop and the singular Yeul speaks directly to Noel, restarting the sentence as if convincing herself of something she doesn't really want to do.
This game is pure nonsense... but it’s definitely emotionally satisfying nonsense.
I know there's like a novelization of several chapters where there's this journalist trying to interview the characters, and there it's heavily implied that the person Lightning means to meet in the epilogue is Hope - Hope whose rightfully returned to his adult body, of course, thank goD. I know there's a lot that gets lost in translation, especially as far as the Hope / Bhuni connection is concerned. I can't help but think things would've made much more sense if Hope had returned in his adult body for the entire ending, to help visually represent everything that'd happened to him in the background of those 500 years of torture. But eh... What can you do.

I love the series, I still believe LR deserved way more love than what Square put into it, it's a fun game, there are parts that are very well done, but most of the world looks and feels unfinished because of the lack of budget and time. I hope square one day create a remaster of this series, I would buy it. :D
Ill start by saying ff13 is my favorite ff. Followed by 13-2 and then 13-3

After watching several negative reviews of ff13, much less the whole trilogy I guess the algorithm showed this ladys playthrough because my bias.
My main issue with 13-2 is the fact it disregarded my hard worked for ending in 13 to extend the story, but Caius carried so hard in the other two parts it saved itself in my eyes.
I needed to play Lightning Returns because i wanted to see everyone get their happy ending. It was worth every second of gameplay, but the time mechanics killed it for me in any other playthrough cause i know i would have to do new game + to get everything i wanted. [R.I.P the time i wasted inefficiently in the valley with Odin and Caius]
If you know anything about the epilogue, im happy for everything except one MAJOR thing.
Snow and Serah never were confirmed to have met each other in the new world, the fact the writer for the trilogy allowed epilogue material but never canocially confirmed them getting back together will forever be my biggest gripe of the entire anything involved with the trilogy. I still get mad af, even as a certified Stan of the series.

The thing about this game is everybody tries to rush it out of panic. When they do, they realize they have days to kill at the end. And, imo, the best tune in the game is the Ark theme. The main issue with XIII-2 was lack of difficulty, imo. I beat most enemies before they were even staggered. XIII was the best, but they were all cool. These games really are good, said from a person who has been around from the beginning.
@Bruno Ricardo Everybody plays differently. No shame in either approach, my friend. I found the hardest part being the actual capturing with low RNG. The game was fun, and that's all that really matters:D
This game and the two before it are beautiful in every way. I struggle to cry anymore in games but this one has me in tears so much no matter how much time goes by. All three were magic back in the day. I yearn for the next Final Fantasy to be like this but it doesnt look like it will be

I never could finish this game because of the time mechanic😭 maybe I just don’t have a good sense of direction like a lot of gamers that can apparently navigate maps like there nothing..

Actually the time mechanic is not a problem. You can search for playthrough it can help you a lot.

Is it just me, or did a fair number of JRPGs from the early 2010s have strong agnostic “defy/destroy God” themes? This one and Xenoblade come immediately to mind, and I feel like at least one of the Tales games also had the same idea.
Not just the 2010s. This is a JRPG trope that goes back. Breath of Fire series, Shin Megami Tensei series, Xenogears, Grandia 2, etc
Lightning Returns is the best. I love the main and side quests. I finished the games 5x hehehe

Probably the time management puts them off. That part put me off at first but im the end i got used to it. I pushed through it because the overall story and the first two games are just magical. At least they werent one of the people still whining about corridor sims cause they played 13 for like 1 hour and couldnt backtrack or play minigames. 🤷♀️
@@nezkeys79 Yeah. With the time management, I just can't stop thinking about The Legend Zelda - Majoras Mask. I mean. The time management system isn't terrible.The time feature is really neat. I'm thinking that lots of RPG players maybe go at it for the chill. Times tend to change things. I left an earlier comment here about the time management feature. Like I said there. Life might just be in the way of it all. Back when The Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask came out, it seemed like a whole lot of people liked the time feature.
After years and being grown, fans who grew with the series just might be too caught up with responsibilities elsewhere to bother. Or at least think they are (too caught up). I'm fine with it/the time system, but I'm not surprised if lots of others aren't.

@@nezkeys79 I didn't finish MM either. TLOZ MM is one of those games. For SURE. I know the game quite well, though. How the events play out in MM is seriously simple, actually. It's doing them that brings all the hassle.
Final fantasy XIII trilogy and X are both my #1! I freaked out when the angel of Valhalla was the reincarnation of Odin. The snicker bar comment with snow killed me. 😂

yeah XII-2 was a mess of a story, Lightning returns had a really good climax. The battle with the goddess of chaos and lightning becoming the new god of chaos, ff13 is up there as one of my favorite worlds along with 1, 4, 7, and 10 it's my list of the best ff games. Every third one.

I'm sorry, but all the FF XIII games are horrible. The first one was at least tolerable because of how beautiful it was and the story was mildly interesting (if not horribly confusing). But the spin-offs & sequels after the fact were just... god awful. I mean even the battle UI in this game makes me want to claw my eyes out.
Compare this to FF7 Remake, for example: nice clean & simple UI, fun battle system, fluid & smooth gameplay... this game is literally the opposite of all that.
As much as I love the Yuna outfit. Elementa was way too OP. Ima do another run without it.
Also fun note. Barthandelous won. His goal was to bring down Cacoon to kill many people to "revive the maker" and create a new world. He brought down Cocoon but the lives were saved so he lost. However then Caius came along, And when He died Etro Died, and the Darkness swept the world his objective of the "Many souls Lost" was complete. then after you defeat the final boss of 13-3 you end up creating a new peaceful world where everyone can start fresh. His overall plan seemed Horrible. But the final outcome of it brings everyone to a big smile and tears.
better to understand that all u should play Final Fantasy XIII first then X-2 and then that :P btw "not for me!" but FF 13 2 and Lightning returns was most hated of the FF serie..but ! I never understand the people..MAYBE Lightning has no big boobs xD
I agree with you in LR actually being way better than the rep its gotten. Just finished my first playthrough of the trilogy and I really liked how they got progressively better. Underated games!

I too loved 13-2 but hated the ending. Did'nt like the battelsystem in Lightning return but the story was fine. 13-1 was best, for me .

I'm in the minority in the FF community but I liked Lightning Returns when it came out.
The XIII games are different from other FF games in terms of story and gameplay but wasn't the worst things in the franchise.
At least the third game felt like a finale of the series.

Even tho it hasn't been said by Nomura I believe all final fantasys even tho they take place in different times and universes. I believe they are all connected by the life stream. They did say that final fantasy 7 and 10 are connected tho.

Basically, Lightning and Co. are responsible for the Big Bang. So yeah, pretty much.
It really doesn't make sense at all, in fact, the story can be pretty stupid at points, but the visuals are beautiful, and so is the music!
This one is in my opinion the best of the 3, still think the story is awful, but i enjoyed the gameplay more than the other 2, and loved the equipment system

Life conditions are a factor too. Not everyone wants/is in a mood to spend their chill time on a game that asks for so much hassle (because of what they responsible life might be like).
What I'm trying to say is that lots of them (who said that they hate the in game time mechanic) might all also like being that in depth/particular with games/like using the time mechanic too..but just THINKING that they don't have the TIME to do so.
Learnt and developed worry over time.
