The reason why Cloud's line at that part was translated as "attack while it's tail's up!" is because Japanese actually puts the conditionals at the end of a phrase, so for example "If you attack while its tail's up..." would be more like "attack while its tail's up IF..." --- and it is easy to forget about that part.

Nanaki finding out his dad was actually a hero will always be one of my favorite moments in the game. Excellent pacing, likeable cast, near perfect battle system, Exceptional soundtrack, etc. If you haven't played them, i recommend all of the PS1 era Final Fantasy games, 8, 9, and tactics are all worth a playthrough as well. Tactics probably the most criminally underrated of the set (though probably also the least stream-worthy. This was in my UA-cam recommends and honestly I only intended watching the first ten minutes but I've just finished watching the whole thing and I'm not disappointed. It's been really great to watch someone's first play through of what is hands down my favourite game of all time, so glad you enjoyed it.
I have to say, it was a great joy to watch your expressions through the main points of the game. it brought me back to when I was 15, when the game first came out. The highs, the lows, that's what made this game. People felt a real connection to the people in this game. SO glad you played the OG b4 the remake comes out. Now you will understand why some people call FFVII "the best game ever made"
Watching this made me happy. This game took me through so many emotions, even weeks after finishing it and knowing someone else can experience the same things I did, especially in 2019 is the best thing. 9 is going to get you good :] Look forward to that.
People who say that older games like Final Fantasy VII are just beloved because nostalgia are just kinda wrong IMO. I mean, I beat FFVII this year and I absolutely fell in love with it. And I’m 18 years old and have had no prior final fantasy experience. Now I’ve played Crisis Core and am currently playing through X and I know that this series is gonna be one of my favorites. Heck I even put myself through all of Dirge of Cerberus’s cutscenes just to get the story lol.
@@callmeshaggy5166 See part where I said I had to grind for money because you need a lot of money to buy equipment as you go. You also have to grind for Limit Breaks if you want any chance of using Great Gospel on Aerith before she dies.
Guys. So this is what I love. 22 years later a person plays FF7, and ends up saying it's one of her most favorite games. Then can you now understand why I and millions are major FF fans and absolutely downright love games like FF7 when they came out. It was beyond a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g else there existed. FF7 was the most expensive game ever made when it came out when 98% of the rest of the industry where still in their infancy lets say. Square was and is truly a legendary studio with a legendary franchise (and other franchises of them). It didn't come as a surprise that FF7 Remake won all the major and biggest E3 awards.
I was about 20 when this game came out and i remember my friend and i trying everything we could to see if we could prevent Aeris' death. We literally went out and had a drink in her honor. lol
Seeing someone else figure out for themselves the greatness of this game and walk where you walked and go through the same feelings and emotion you've had years ago is something this video reminded me was so priceless and precious. I'm so glad you gave it a chance despite the outdated graphics, now you know! Play 8 next :D
Well said. I came here to say almost exactly what you said. It's always an honor to see others experience this magic. Sakaguchi was mourning the loss of his mother during the early stages of this game's production and the way I see it, he made the world grieve with him and all the tears the world has shed for Aerith are empathy tears that brings more humility to humanity. SarahKey, I truly enjoyed sharing shedding a tear with you today :)
37:50 Playing with Yuffie and watching her just erupt into tears at this point is heartwrenching, but there's something even sadder about Barret's reaction. He lost his wife. He KNOWS, and he knows there aren't words or actions or anything that can be offered to Cloud right now. Vincent's is similar - they both remember what it was like, and while they're grieving themselves, they know some of what Cloud's going through.
I’m a FF newbie. Buddy of mine talked me into playing FF15. Wasn’t into Turn Based games growing up. 15 was my first FF game I played/beat. It was good. He then talked me into 9, which is his favorite and it had just come out on Switch. 70+ Hours and absolutely loved it. Still playing through 7 now, and I’m really enjoying it so far. Played all the KH games, so I’m familiar with the characters.
bjoker8228 kingdom hearts introduces you to final fantasy characters but they are very different in their original games, for example cloud became Emo in KH and advent children more than 7 itself
as an old ff fan who grew up with ff starting with ff1 on nes, I commend you for finishing the game! this was an iconic game when it first came out, honestly my favorite one out of them all. I was 12 when I first played this game god im old =D. makes me happy that you enjoyed it despite the game being over 20yrs old, cheers!
cool to see someone play it today who hasn't played it and still enjoy it. You can tell how the game still holds up and is not just a nostalgic game for fans. Now you can get more hyped for the remake with everyone.

It's interesting seeing so many people these days playing some of these games for the first time. Good vid, glad to see people like yourself still enjoying FF7 all these years later! Hopefully you were able to see the scene after the credits.
21:30 thank you so much for including this part. Honestly, this part was the most emotional part of the game. He lived his life despising his father thinking he was a coward, only to finally learn the truth about how his father was a true hero. And the music.
I have no idea how your video popped up in my time line. I have never heard of you before, but I am glad I have now. This is my favorite game of all time and I loved watching your reactions as you played through it for the first time. They way you didnt want to play when forced to face Aeris with Cloud. Then what happened immediately following with Sephiroth, while gut punching, was very moving to see your reaction. I hope that you enjoyed your time with FFVII! It isnt often that I will sit down, stop what I am doing, and watch someone for an hour straight. Thank you for your time and dedication.
I remember playing this and watching the cut scenes thinking “wow imagine if games actually looked that good” now they look outdated compared to modern gameplay 🙈
Oh wow...it's actually super rare to see a _genuinely_ shocked reaction to Aerith's death, considering it's probably the most widely known twist in gaming.
I am glad that you decided to play the 1998 version versus the remake one. It is good to learn your way around the game and how the storyline goes, it is also a good idea to know where everything is before playing the remake one.
Story and unreal characters made it so stellar. Games don't do what was done here anymore. This was super emotional but if you haven't played 9 yet, which is an absolute masterpiece, get on it and prepare for an emotional ride.
dude, this is so wrong on so many levels its not even funny! belive it or not but ffvii was one of the most expensive games ever made. it was beyond cutting edge. there's a reason why people say ffvii sold the psx. and it has alot to do with it being considered to have amazing graphics when it came out. seriously, people look at old games with today eyes and dont consider how things actually were back then. graphics sold games even more back than. hell, more than half of psx first year games didnt come to the west because they were 2d games. including games like moon. what is moon you ask? basically a little game people once called the psx best... that nobody played because it was a 2d rpg. so dont say that crap of "back in my day". i lived those days, and i can say, people were massive graphics whores.
I have alot respect for u now I beat the game in 1998 when I was a kid I always wanted the remake ever since then U earned ur wings and I will enjoy watching ur videos of the remake no matter how many u make.I can't watch anyone play the new one and not beat the old one MAD RESPECT GANGSTER
Priceless to see someones reactions and feelings to playing this masterpiece for the first time! What wouldnt i give to have that feeling again! Also glad u decided to play this before the remake! Now u get why this game is so aclaimed and why people asked for its remake for over two decades and all the Nostalgia about it, plus u really are funny and lovely to watch, u just won a sub Girl! Kudos!
Just finished this game today for the first time since i beat it 22 years ago. I acquired all the materia, armors, accessories, weapons, level 4 breaks and completed 3 enemy skill materia. Was doing some grinding over last few days to get strong enough to beat ruby and sapphire, but i couldn't take the boredom and just beat the final bosses. So i guess i'll never beat the optional bosses.
I was 21 when I first played FFVII, (when it released O.o) I've played every FF game and this is the best by far! I was great watching some one experience the game for the first time and I spent the whole time just watching her face and remembering feeling the same emotions!
Just a small note for when you replay: characters who are dead/KO'd when the battle ends get no experience points for the battle. Getting characters back up before striking the finishing blow will help their development.
I cannot believe I sat here an hour ago skeptically looking at a young'un playing an amazing 22 year old game and wondered what I should watch instead. Now more than an hour later I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes and quite happy. I don't think I really believed that the old games actually was that great in reality (just in nostalgia) and definitely that future generations would appreciate them, but I'm happy to see that I was entirely wrong. Thank you for this!
OMG, I am a new fan to SarahKey channel through FF7R, her reactions to the game was insightful, charming, and wildly entertaining as it reminded me of my own. Then YT show me this video - and I just realized you/Sarah, had just played FF7 OG only months before FF7R came out. That is dangerously too close to have played those games together. The emotional punch of FF7 is hard to handle, luckily I had 23 yrs to process it all, before falling into FF7R. I cannot imagine the trauma and love of falling into the world of FF so close together.... it must be so awesome. Great content and thank you.
This was a really well done video. The editing was great, and it really makes me want to play this game again. If you did the same thing for ff9 or 8, that would be incredible too. I'd recommend ff6 (or ff3 in US), it has an excellent story if you can put up with Super Nintendo graphics. Chrono Trigger is also great. Again, this was a treat to watch.
RPGs from the mid-90s to early 00s, from about Final Fantasy 6 until Skies of Arcadia/Final Fantasy X tended to balance the games so that grinding was never a necessity. Also: 4:19 - the posters featuring the text "My Bloody Valentine" and "Loveless" are a reference to the alternative band My Bloody Valentine and their 1991 album Loveless.
I seriously considered quitting when it froze me in front of Aerith. I knew it would happen, but it still killed me. Tifa’s reaction was so sweet, too.😭
EVERYONE dies their first time fighting the Scorpion Guard. A lot of it can be attributed to the fact it contains one of the biggest mistranslations in the game, yet it was NOT corrected in the PC version (which is what the PS4 and Switch versions are ported and upgraded from). Cloud says "Attack while its tail is up! (Note the exclamation point) It's gonna counter attack with its tail lasers!" What he meant to say was "IF you attack while its tail is up, it will counter attack with its tail lasers."
It's really good that you chose to play the game without looking anything up, that moment where the game gives you Omnislash against Sephiroth got such a reaction out of me the first time I saw it, a golden moment for sure.
I remember leaving Midgar for the first time and thinking "I've been playing for 8 hours, so I must be near the end of the game." Boy, was I very wrong.
Just completed FF7 1997 again. I do hope they could players to choose different endings in Remake. Still feeling shocked and sad after watching Aerith death. Even after 20 years old, such a long time.
I love your content and appreciate the play through. I have played the original on my ps1. It's one thing to to not have 9999 hp and 999 mp, but to see an omnislash not touch near 7k damage a pop hurt my very soul.
Absolutely love that players are still giving this game a chance after all these years! I highly recommend ff8 if you ever decide to revisit a final fantasy game!
I've probably played the whole thing a dozen times, but with you these processing everything for the first time it was like I was seeing it for the first time too. Thanks for this!
Just finished watching the video and wow... you made me revive a bunch of feeling like I had in my first playthrough; it was a long time ago tho. Thanks for this experience.
I have no response to that, I can make arguments for why people do and don't like them, but it's just one of those things, it might be an acquired taste or something. With some Final Fantasy games I can't stand to finish them because it can get repetitive but with games like VII and IV I don't get bored at all halfway through. So yeah, I don't know, I guess most people just like spectacle in their games and turn based games aren't usually all that flashy.
I've always loved the turn based system. I've been playing since the first FF on Nintendo so thats what I think of when I play FF. I could never get into the newer FF's without some form of TBS.
MY GOD I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS REMAKE, ITS BEEN SO MANY YEARS SINCE I HAVE PLAYED THE ORIGINAL. YOU PLAYING THIS GAME HAS BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES. THANK U SARAH! Lol I am sorry it has taken me so long for me to watch this play through.

You know we're here for the tears 😢
Ah yes, the exact moment when the game became a grind-fest for max level and max stats, just so I could brutally murder a self-styled god for this heresy. Good times.
How dare you 💔😭 (Sephiroth looking cool as always)
Sephiroth didn´t kill Aerith! Cloud drowned her!
There was a very convincing Game Theory episode about that back in the day and quite frankly, I believe it now!
I rate this video P
as in pretty good video
What are u doing here?
I rate your new pfp 10/10 no piercing. May actually wqtch your videos now
I playing FF 7 at the moment. The story line back in the day was epic. I highly recommend people to get into this game before the remake comes out.
I tried for the first time on mobile but that port bad. Gonna try again on Switch tommorow.
Play final fantasy IX I think you're going to love it. It's one of the most charming games in the series and my favorite along with VII
I love FFIX. And for how charming and lovely the design of the game is, it's also a surprisingly dark game. Love it.
Final Fantasy lX was way ahead of it's time but Vll is still my favorite.
Totally agree
9 is my favorite. I agree she needs to play it
vii has aeris... but ix, ix has vivi!
Sarah: "FF7 isn't that grindy"
Me: *spent at least a quarter of my last run grinding for money and Limit Breaks, not to mention Levels and Materia*
dont forget raising and breeding chocobos
Well if you're trophy hunting yeah but not to beat the story.
@@callmeshaggy5166 No, that was just for money that I needed and to unlock Limit Breaks on everyone. 7 takes a lot of grinding.
@@austinhudson5349 unlocking level 4 limits for everyone isn't required to beat the game. You're grinding cuz you wanted to.
SarahKey, I truly enjoyed sharing shedding a tear with you today :)
i played ff7 when it came out and back then the graphics were amazing still my fav game to date.
You're making me wanna play this game again. Good job.
I HIGHLY recommend FF6!!! Also known as FFIII in the US for the Super Nintendo, it's my favorite Final Fantasy game!!!
Final Fantasy VI is better than VII imho and one of the best videogames EVER made. And did I mention the SIXTEEN playable characters?
15 I liked.
9 is one of the top three ff games, imo.
as an old ff fan who grew up with ff starting with ff1 on nes, I commend you for finishing the game! this was an iconic game when it first came out, honestly my favorite one out of them all. I was 12 when I first played this game god im old =D. makes me happy that you enjoyed it despite the game being over 20yrs old, cheers!
I'm so happy you played this game it really is a good one I'm glad you enjoyed it
cool to see someone play it today who hasn't played it and still enjoy it. You can tell how the game still holds up and is not just a nostalgic game for fans. Now you can get more hyped for the remake with everyone.
So ya know Aerith was the one who called the lifestream forth to push the meteor back. She never left you in the game
This game is one of the best Final Fantasy has to offer. Glad to be there for your playthrough and that you enjoyed it.
What do you do when you are down to 20 HP and the enemy counter attacks with an AOE Laser Beam?
Not attack that's for sure.
FF7 will always be my favorite game and it will hold a very special place in my heart. I often played it with my dear best friend. RIP Spencer.
I'm a 30-year-old and I was in a complete mess crying at the ending part. Thank you soooo much for reminding my childhood all over again~!
🎆🎇🎉🎊🍻
Unbelievable how a classic game means so much to all of us!!
You'll be My forever bias wrecker: Aerith
This game was seriously one of the best stories ever told.
the likes of Dante or Dickens
shame about the localization tho. Could've been a lot better.
@@Nettacki they said it comes from the amount of text in japanese that weigthed a lot less. And that it was one of the longest piece of dialogue to date.
@@skidmc Also the fact that the translator prolly didn't have a lot of time to translate it, must have been a deadline or something
Just finished this game, and as a part of the younger generation I can definitely see why this game is so loved! I had so much along the way. Great video, I loved your reactions and you’re very entertaining! :)
this was really well edited. captured the magic of a first playthrough perfectly. great video. cheers for this.
Now that I've lost my mom last year, the Aerith scene actually makes me cry again because now it makes me think about her.
Losing his mother is what influenced Hinorobu Sakaguchi to make the theme of this game about loss, grief and acceptance
No one:
Not a single soul:
Zack: *starts squatting*
*excited squatting*
It's interesting seeing so many people these days playing some of these games for the first time. Good vid, glad to see people like yourself still enjoying FF7 all these years later!
Hopefully you were able to see the scene after the credits.
I love watching people play this game for the first. My favorite final fantasy of all time. Glad you enjoyed it.
21:30 thank you so much for including this part. Honestly, this part was the most emotional part of the game. He lived his life despising his father thinking he was a coward, only to finally learn the truth about how his father was a true hero. And the music.
I'll alway be your mother... - One of the most hearthbreaking quotes in the game.
I remember playing this and watching the cut scenes thinking “wow imagine if games actually looked that good” now they look outdated compared to modern gameplay
🙈
Oh wow...it's actually super rare to see a _genuinely_ shocked reaction to Aerith's death, considering it's probably the most widely known twist in gaming.
Aeris death scene always gets me. Your reaction is everyone who’s ever played this game.
Blitzen Twiceborn the level of charm in this world and its characters was through the roof. I’m so hopeful for the remake.
As long as they don't change the character personalities, I'm hopeful given what I've seen.
Love how you're recreating the old-school "no FAQ, no Walkthrough, no Guide" action. Because that's how I played FF7, back in the day.
i miss old day when making a good storie and amazing game was more important then $$ and graphic old day game were amazing
Omg so true its all about the money now..
Well... This game was cutting edge back then in every single aspect. Graphics, scale, music, and production values were off the charts.
You should check out Edge of Eternity, being developed by Midgar Studios. As the name implies they were heavily inspired by SquareEnix and FF. :P
dude, this is so wrong on so many levels its not even funny! belive it or not but ffvii was one of the most expensive games ever made. it was beyond cutting edge. there's a reason why people say ffvii sold the psx. and it has alot to do with it being considered to have amazing graphics when it came out.
seriously, people look at old games with today eyes and dont consider how things actually were back then. graphics sold games even more back than. hell, more than half of psx first year games didnt come to the west because they were 2d games. including games like moon. what is moon you ask? basically a little game people once called the psx best... that nobody played because it was a 2d rpg. so dont say that crap of "back in my day". i lived those days, and i can say, people were massive graphics whores.
Dude your spelling is awful lol
I have alot respect for u now
I beat the game in 1998 when
I was a kid I always wanted the remake ever since then
U earned ur wings and I will enjoy watching ur videos of the remake no matter how many u make.I can't watch anyone play the new one and not beat the old one
MAD RESPECT GANGSTER
That Aeris death scene! Ugh, I remember being like 12 crying the whole time the jenova battle went on. I was ANGRY lol.
Kudos!
Final Fantasy VII is the best video game of all time for me. I'm so glad u enjoyed it!!!
I hope you keep saving your streams as highlights. It's a good idea for people who can't make it live.
She should upload them to her youtube channel to archive them like what LobosJr does.
@@NeroMystyra even better
Loved your reactions! It's always refreshing to see someone else experience something for the first time.
41:55 *DE JA VU* “hits tree” yup indeed gives me De Ja Vu on that level lol
I cannot believe I sat here an hour ago skeptically looking at a young'un playing an amazing 22 year old game and wondered what I should watch instead. Now more than an hour later I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes and quite happy. I don't think I really believed that the old games actually was that great in reality (just in nostalgia) and definitely that future generations would appreciate them, but I'm happy to see that I was entirely wrong. Thank you for this!
We love a FFVII trailer before the video
LOL perfect
SarahKey gonna watch the last half of this once i’ve finished my playthrough!! i’m glad you had so much fun with it🥰
OMG, I am a new fan to SarahKey channel through FF7R, her reactions to the game was insightful, charming, and wildly entertaining as it reminded me of my own.
TO THIS DAY! I still see Sephiroth as one of the coolest, most badass villains of all time. Subbed
Absolutely!! Hands down one of the coolest villans ever!!👍
(Note the exclamation point) It's gonna counter attack with its tail lasers!"
What he meant to say was "IF you attack while its tail is up, it will counter attack with its tail lasers."
Those mistranslations are part of the charm of the game ^^.
(And I didn't die on scorpion guard)
It's really good that you chose to play the game without looking anything up, that moment where the game gives you Omnislash against Sephiroth got such a reaction out of me the first time I saw it, a golden moment for sure.
I can't wait to slap Scarlet in the remake 😂
I’m 29. Played it for the first time two years ago.
No, it’s not just nostalgia painted glasses. It’s a darn good game. A timeless classic
I will always remember leaving midgar for the first time
I remember leaving Midgar for the first time and thinking "I've been playing for 8 hours, so I must be near the end of the game." Boy, was I very wrong.
Well this is rare, an actual unspoiled reaction to the death of certain someone :P Try out FF9 next!
Masamune's shive ;(
I've probably played the whole thing a dozen times, but with you these processing everything for the first time it was like I was seeing it for the first time too. Thanks for this!
Damnit man, was curious to see a first time player's reaction and I ended up bawling myself all over again!😢
Just finished watching the video and wow... you made me revive a bunch of feeling like I had in my first playthrough; it was a long time ago tho. Thanks for this experience.
I don't get the hate for turn based...guess I'm old.
Did you not stick around for the post-credit scene with Red?!
Daniel M I did this is just a compilation video ooooof
@@SarahKey I think we would have liked to have seen your reaction to it.
B. V. I didn’t mean to leave it out lol...
Still as amazing as it was in 1997. It's just as brilliant watching someone else go through what we all did so long ago... think I'll go back and replay it all again now. Subbed.
