Three things for me:. Waterproof, spikes, and boa-type lacing system. I tried spikeless shoes this year and my lower back would hurt after a round of golf. I switched to shoes with spikes and no more back problem. I also don't tie my shoes anymore. Boa-type lacing system uses a dial to tighten the shoes instead of tying laces. Too loose - bend down and turn the dial. Too tight - lift the button to undo, push button down and turn to tighten again. Easy peasy - no more tying laces again.

Spot on with the topic here Gaz, as someone who hasn't been playing long I've quickly learned the importance of correct footwear. I've ended up with 4 pairs to suit conditions in the Manchester area:
    1. Footjoy Pro SL (waterproof and spikeless) for slightly damp days
    2. Puma Proadapt (Waterproof and spikes) for rainy days
    3. Puma summer shoe (mesh upper and spikeless) for hot/dry days

I have a pair of Ecco Biom G3’s and literally the first round I played in them, they became the most comfortable and stable golf shoes I’ve ever owned. After a few rounds I was quite certain that my swing just felt more comfortable and consistent since wearing these shoes. The proper shoe is definitely a factor in your game and after having been a steadfast fan of the original Adidas Tour 360 (with the separate heel and toe pads) which were brilliantly comfortable, I am now convinced that Ecco with the G3 has nailed down the perfect golf shoe design. A close friend went and grabbed a pair after my pouring on about how taken over I was by the G3 and his impressions are the same as mine so it’s not just my old ass feet that felt the same excellence!! I agree totally that your shoes can effect your game in a noticeable way so if they are in any way uncomfortable or not fully stable, go get some new ones for sure.

Great advice, the importance of a good shoe is often overlooked. I have had a pair of ECCO shoes for a few years, this past year I purchased a pair of True shoes for summertime walking the course. I love both pairs but there is a definite difference between the two. Thanks Gaz. Over the past few years as most golf manufacturers have been moving toward trainer-style golf shoes, I've been questioning why I even need golf-specific shoes. Just a pair of shoes with an aggressive tread? More discussion on the science behind the golf swing, the mechanics of the feet in the swing, and how all that translates to shoe design is probably needed (although I'm not sure how many clicks/views it would get.)

Interesting video Gary. I have summer and winter shoes, but will basically choose a pair based on the weather on the day and the course. I have two pairs of the really old FJ AWD spikeless, they're great on really hard ground and fairly flat courses, but not so good on hilly courses or where the grass has dried and has gone straw like. For this winter I have a pair of spiked shoes and a pair of spikeless shoes, both seem good on wet ground so far.
Like many other people that have commented here, my main issue is with the quality of golf shoes and the fact that many do not stay waterproof for very long. I suppose the manufacturers must be happy to pay a few warranty claims and launch new styles each year to keep the cash rolling in...

Six months ago I bought the Under Armour HOVR Drive Wide E GTX for $170 AUD and so far very happy. Being goretex they are guaranteed waterproof for 2 years (and just coming out of the wettest spring in years in Melbourne I was glad!). I’m less fussed about breathability, but being goretex they might not be too bad (will know more after this Aussie summer). They have plenty of cushioning & support which is more important to me than breathability. Some might find them heavy, but they are so comfortable I don’t notice the weight and I don’t think I’ll have any problems wearing them on firm ground. They key for me is: I will never play spikeless shoes having watched some of my playing partners slip around without spikes (even in summer), especially if we play early morning and there’s a dew or the tees have just been watered. These Under Armours have big grippy spikes so I can definitely recommend them for people who worry about grip.

And another point is price not everyone could afford a £120+ pair of shoes, every thing seems so expensive these days.

    @melabshier5812 2 роки тому

Gaz, I like a lightweight waterproof shoe with spikes. I use a black pair in the winter, And I have the same shoe in white for the summer. The reason for this as a "year 'round shoe" is that I play early in the mornings during spring to fall. The golf course has been watered overnight and having a shoe waterproof, instead of "breathable" helps. I hate wet socks.
I've tried the breathable. They are lighter weight and "feel" comfortable. They do give up a bit of stability. And for seniors that is not always a good thing when the spikeless version slips when walking in wet conditions.
A tip I would add, is have 2 pair of shoes. If you are playing day after day, alternate which shoes you wear. let one pair completely dry out ( your feet do sweat inside). This will make your shoes last longer.
As for your member that forgets his shoes, wear them when you get in the car to go golfing. Take the shoes you want to change into after the round and put those in the boot. I started doing that in the winter so that the golf shoes are warmed up inside and i'm not changing them in the cold. I carried it over into summer. Quicker to get onto the course when you can grab your bag and go.

Great video about one of the most important things when playing golf. One thing that annoys me with shoe brands, is not enough sell wide fitting shoes. I know adidas do them in some models. All Nike shoes always seem to be tight.

Waterproof is the issue, I play first tee time year round. Even in the summer the dew is heavy enough to need the protection.
Foot joy tour x works pretty well year round. In black.

Shoes are a personal preference.. I don't sweat much so breathability isn't much of a concern for me. I prefer grip so use my FootJoy FJ Originals all year round. BIG spikes and loads of support. I've been considering summer shoes but tbh i've not struggled with my FJ's at all.
Saying that, they were horrible when they were new! Once they "broke in" they now feel great.. I'll be getting the Adidas equivalent next.

Good subject. If you can afford it at least 2 pairs is the way. Heavy duty leather for winter. I go for very lightweight and breathable for the good weather. I avoid waterproof for summer as it gets in the way of breathability. Too many plastic uppers in the market, can't be good for the feet or nose

Sitting at around low 20s handicap I'd guess and I literally have a pair of shoes for every colour t-shirt, jumper or jacket I own. In excess of 15 pairs already. Different colours and different styles. My Golf isn't great but at least I look the part 😂😂🙈🙈🙈
