Watching Winter Soldier again, my absolute favorite part is a single line. Captain America is on the intercom telling SHIELD to not launch the Hellicarriers, and Crossbones and his goons have everyone at gunpoint and he's ordering this guy on the controls to launch the Hellicarriers and the tech guy says no. So Crossbones puts his gun to the guy's head and tells him to launch them. And the guy just looks straight ahead and says "I can't do that sir. Captain's Orders." That line hit me right where I live.
So that's who the headbreaker was in another reality, huh? Good to know! As to the techie, took some serious stones to tell that to a man pointing a gun at his head.
You really do respect captain america after watching this movie. This movie shows more of his honor, respect and dignity as seen from the first captain america movie. He truly is a great leader. Btw, this movie is super awesome, if you're a super hero fan, you won't be disappointed at all. This is definitely one of the top action movies this year.
Loved the theme of spies (Fury, Widow, Agent 13, etc...) vs soldiers (Cap, Falcon, Bucky) in the film. Cap's values as a soldier are challenged when he is forced to honor Fury's "death" by doing things that spies normally would (lying, keeping secrets, hiding evidence, etc...) with Widow teaching him the ropes. Yet he also questions how she could live such a life. In the end, he brings down HYDRA by using the one thing that the spies in the film don't have: integrity. It was a treat to see the SHIELD agents realize that they can trust Cap's words more than that of their own superiors' or even each other's.
***** *SPOILER ALERT* Yeah I agree 100%. I liked the style of the movie how SHIELD was compromised and so cap (the only at the time that fury could trust) had to work behind hydra's backs in order uncover the truth. It was great to see that cap upheld his respect and honor for his friends by doing whatever he could to get to the end of the problem. Also, at the end where the winter soldier (I forgot his name) was punching cap almost killing him and cap said something like finish your mission cos I'm with you to the very end (it went something like that)... anyway I'm pretty sure u remember that part but it almost brought tears to my eyes knowing that cap would take his life bcos he has that much love for his friend! much respect for cap.
Here, here! Cap is too often portrayed as "1950s sitcom dad" (to quote my former housemate). This movie got him right by having him be a grizzled, troubled veteran of the Second World War who is figuring out how to fit in with the world he left behind him. That he's now got a seven decade gap to jump only makes it harder...which is why Sam Wilson was a nice touch.
topsui For the record, the other guy was Sgt. James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes. That final scene at the end of the credits where he's walking through the Captain America exhibit and seeing his own glass tombstone there...you know that this has to mess with his head.
I was surprised at how threatening the Winter Soldier was. He isn't in it much but when he is he just steals the show. The incredibly dark music, his unbreakable stoic movements. He truly feels like a machine built to kill. The scene at the ass end of the film was so haunting.
I personally prefer the "Director of Shield" gear on Cap. The dark blue and silver just looks more like a hardened soldier, whereas the classic costume looks like patriotic idealist.
Gabriel Petricevic I have bias, because I'm Batman, but yeah. I'm a comic book fan, so I treat them equal. Marvel is clearly winning cinematically, but DC does something that just clicks with the Animated movies. And Comics, too hard to decide.
love the scene when Cap beats the piss out of like 12 guys in the elevator lol his partners all tazing him so he throws him into the ceiling all AFTER the best 1 liner ever!!!!!!!!1 ("Any of you want to get out?")
I dont know if anyone noticed the little easter egg but when cap, falcon and black widow were interrogating that guy on the roof he mention Stephen Strange who you all know is.... Doctor Strange
You caught that too, huh? Consider this quote from Robert Bloch in "Strange Eons": "What man knows, he calls science. What man does not know, he calls magic. Yet both are true." Given how the MCU incorporated the mystical mythos of Thor, should we not be expecting a very similar approach to this version of Stephen Strange?
Daviddjx44 Maybe, maybe not...another thread of the Thor version of "magic" was how the science was buried under myth, legend, and good old fashioned misunderstanding. You gotta figure that can't be the ONLY tradition so influenced, yes?
Movie was so great. While you're right about the Winter Soldier not being that important to the overall plot, he made quite a impact on me with his limited screentime. The scene when he has to report to Alexander Pierce and he says "I knew that man", the look on his face is kind of heartbreaking. And his final fight with Cap had some big emotional stakes, I thought it was surprisingly well-done giving he doesn't have a lot of screentime. And I can't wait for Cap 3. And Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy for that matter, Marvel is fucking rocking it.
took a little bit but I finally saw Captain America today. GREAT movie. I walked out of it very pleased. It was great to see Cap done justice because I felt like he didn't entirely get to shine in his first movie. Here he got to be a bonafide badass which was great. This is currently my 2nd favorite Marvel movie.
Jordann Lee Unlikely, given that they made sure that the audience took notice that the shield is gone. Finding the shield isn't exactly a complicated thing. It fell in the Potomac River, not the ocean.
I would kill to see how Tony reacts to find out Hydra killed his parents and that senator always on his ass was a Hydra agent. I would love to see him looking for some payback.
HE Fuckin used a bazooka to stop a jet from flying from the water base which was some of the most badass scenes in the first avengers movie. i was like "FUCK YEAH! you thought the director will sit this one!"
The last two episodes of AOS and the Winter soldier blended tv and movies really well. I was not expecting it but u have had a smile plastered on my face for a straight week because of it. Damn Marvel makes it look effortless. What the hell is DC's hang up?
I feel like the theme for Phase 2 is about a "restart" If you look at all the Phase 2 movies, they end in similar ways... Ironman 3 has Tony restarting, Thor 2 has Thor leaving everything behind, and now Capt. has SHIELD broken up, and all three movies mean that to be together again, they have to pull themselves together.
I squeed when they revealed Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. I knew who the actors would be, and I knew they'd be in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I didn't expect to be introduced to them so soon. I also dig that the post credits scene kept w/ the tone of the film. No goofy crossover like Iron Man 3, no mushy romance like Thor: The Dark World; it was Bucky visiting his memorial at the museum as he begins his path to discovering his identity.
Well avengers 2 comes out next year, and Captain america is just a link towards it. Guardians of the galaxy will probably resort to it also but most likely going to be in thor part 3.
Malik McAdams Considering the Ultimates versions of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, its not as weird as you think. There always was kinda an incestuous vibe coming from those two characters in the Ultimates.
Frank Grillo is steadily becoming one of my favorite action stars, and I had no idea he would be in Winter Soldier. I kinda flipped out when I saw him. He was such a basses as Rumlow!
The story to this movie was phenomenal! I also think it was a smart move to use the a Captain America movie as a way to criticize American for our foreign policies. That could make the movie more popular over seas.
Oh I don't know... the mid-credits scene of Thor: The Dark World was pretty nerdgasmic... while my friend was just sitting there, confused as to what the big deal was.
The best part was when that Shield dude that wore glasses said that Shield were monitoring people, one of them being STEVEN STRANGE. Is Doctor Strange going to appear at some point? That would be so awesome.
Most likely, Fiege and Marvel are planning to bring new heroes into the fray in either phase 3 or 4. Since Ironman is done with solo movies, Marvel has Cap, Thor, the Guardians and Ant-man thats coming up, Marvel has been pushing for Strange, hence the reference. Though most fans are wanting Black Panther or even another solo Hulk film
mariabenz07 My guess is that we won't see a Doctor Strange movie for a good few years, but the guy's probably gonna be playing a major role in other movies to come. I mean look Strucker's closing line: "We are entering the age of miracles." It's basically just Marvel saying: "Shit's gonna start getting weird and we can't say 'mutants' so it's just gonna have to be magic." And if they're gonna start bringing magic into Phase 3, I don't think there's any way that Strange won't be a part of that.
Well with everything announced, they've potentially already got Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, War-Machine, The Winter Soldier, Loki, Luke Cage, Iron First, Dare Devil, Jessica Jones, The Guardians of the Galaxy and the cast of Agents Of SHIELD to play with in Avengers 3. So I'm not entirely sure if you can argue that's not enough, but yeah I think everybody still REALLY wants to see Doctor Strange's name on that list.
My Top 5 MCU Movies: 1. Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The Avengers 3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 4. Iron Man 5. Captain America: The First Avenger
Just saying: Agents of shield is an awesome show...and they had their tie-in with the captain America movie and Hydra saying that director fury was dead xD it's all good!
Hot parts with Black Widow that I can remember: - The skin-tight black suit in the beginning (SJ got skinnier) - Showing her stomach to show her cut (0_0) - The low-cut dress she wears when she's in Sam Wilson's apartment (OMG can SJ get any hotter?) *CAN* SJ get any hotter??
***** I also forgot to add in the bit of dialogue that always manages to crack me up and find SJ all the more sexy, even around Steve Rogers... "Bye bye, bikinis." "Yeah I'll bet you look terrible in them now."
Eric Graham Oh my god tht was hilarious! SJ cracks me up in this movie. I also like how this movie portrayed black widow. She did not do shit in IM2 although that ass was nice. Plus in the Avengers, it was a little better but she deserved more screen time, but her ass still looked nice. This movie, she was an unexpected comic relief and had the screen time she deserved, plus her ass is still nice lol
Her ass was especially nice when she slammed that crowbar at the pirate's face, then just walked on minding her own business. Every time I see Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, I can never help but go "Yeah... ;)" every time she says something, cracks a joke, walks sexy or says something involving sexual tension (in this case the "Bye bye bikinis" line ROFL)
On Nick Fury's tombstone it, of course, said his name and date of death but it also stated passage 25;17 which is "The path of righteous man" WHICH is the passage Samuel L Jackson used every time he killed people in Pulp Fiction where he portrayed a killer.
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniqueties of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee." Unloads guns on HUMANS
Hmm, it's funny how the more GROUNDED Marvel movies are the best in the Cinematic Universe lol. Iron Man 1, Avengers (in a way), and now Captain America 2. I just hope Guardians of the Galaxy is received well by audiences.. it's really outlandish
***** yeah, that's why I said "in a way".. it was a mixture of realistic and fantastical anyway. With Iron Man/Captain America.. and Thor/Hulk thrown in the mix with SHIELD just made a great ensemble of a movie
For the cosmic stuff to wow everyone, first they have to get used to grounded stuff I guess. If GoTG will be anything like the comics which it looks like from the trailer, everyone'll love it.
I think the best marvel cinematic movies are the ones that have a more 'serious' tone. I know there are some exceptions like The Avengers and iron Man 3, but look at Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. They were both awesome.
I think it's more realistic in the sense that the Avengers and related movies boil down all the unrealistic elements to a few basic premises. All of the characters (both heroes and villains) arise from three basic sources-- crazy alien technology (thor, loki, iron man's arc reactor, ect), the super soldier serum (Cap, Hulk, and their respective villians) and human super-geniuses that can understand and create stuff using the former two. If you can suspend your disbelief to accept these basic premises, everything in the Avengers universe is "realistic" because it is internally consistent with these ideas.
They showed shit in the trailer that ruined the big reveals in the movie. Like when Fury was supposedly dead I knew he wasn't because it hadn't showed that part in the trailer where he says, "looks like you're giving the orders now cap." -__-
Yeah, no shit man. I'm not saying everything was predictable I'm just saying most of the reveals weren't keeping me on my toes since they were spoiled by the actual trailer. I wish I would've been fooled by Fury's death is my main gripe. Other than that, this movie was fucking awesome!
I think just like Captain America represents justice, the Winter Soldier represents the corruption going on within SHIELD. I think they used his name in the title because of what he symbolizes, maybe. I really did enjoy watching this movie, and I can't wait for the next one.
I loved Captain America's chemistry with Black Widow. It made me feel complete. And every scene with Bucky was the best scene ever. Like the first time the camera sorta blurs and refocuses on the road. Nick Fury sorta squints at what's standing in the middle of the road and you see him just there. I literally shat my pants. xDD
No, we can't have everyone. The way Marvel wrote their deal with Fox back in the day somehow allows for both of them to use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Those are the only two characters to which that applies. Fox can't mention their Avengers involvement. And Marvel can't mention mutants. It's confusing, yes.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about characters such as Stephen Strange, Sitwell, Rumlow or even how it made sense why the senate tried to get Tony Stark's suits in Iron Man 2 because he was Hydra and why the world leaders fired the missile at New York in Avengers, because the main leader was Hydra. Thinking about how this movie affected previous movies just blew my mind. Also, now that Nick Fury is "dead" to the world, I'm hoping they'll go down the Civil War path over the next few movies leading to the assassination of Steve Rogers. I love Chris as Cap, but his assassination could be done really well. Like Crossbones is about to shoot him, Winter Soldier appears and stops him, everyone thinks all is well, then Sharon Carter who is brainwashed, shoots him from behind due to Zola's algorithm predicting The Winter Soldier would stop Bucky.
No, we won't see MCU interpretations of Wolverine, Spider-Man or any of those other characters. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are a very rare case of the cinematic rights to certain characters being split between studios. In this case it's because of their history of switching sides in the comic books. Two things that are funny about these castings though: 1. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen who are playing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the MCU are playing a husband and wife in Godzilla. 2. Evan Peters who is playing Quicksilver in X-Men was in Kick-Ass with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and they actually played best friends in that film.
i got it right away.hopefully that reference makes the movie rumors a possibility . i seen the baxter building i don't know if thats a homage to the captain former life has the human torch or has a potential to lead somewhere else
Sebastion Stan, the actor playing the Winter Soldier signed a 9 movie contact with Marvel. The second post-credit scene shows Bucky finding out who he really is, so my guess is he's a good guy in upcoming movies.
***** I know they don't have to put him in 9 movies but the fact that he has that opening and the fact that he realized who he was at the end of CATWS makes me think he'll be in future films.
***** who knows. Evan stated that he would stop acting except for the roles he is obliged to (marvel) to focus on his directing career. He also said that maybe in 5 years he might miss acting and might want to do it again, atm anyways he wants to direct and will do so with the money he gains from the marvel successes.
Marvel had money issues so they sold some of their movie rights. They regret that now, but if you think about it, that is not bad. Kevin Feige said that they can not make more then 2-3 movies per year so audience wuldn't see as much movies as we see now. We have 2-3 Disney movies, Sony's Spiderman and Fox's X-men or FF. That is 2-3 movies more per year.
FrenkyCRO Also keep in mind the reson were getting things like GOTG is because Marvel has to get creative and try new characters. If they owned all their characters including their big gun Spider-Man and X-Men we would be getting the same characters they know make money. It's because they don't own X-Men or Spider-Man that they are trying things like GOTG and Ant-MAn.
***** yeah, that's absolutely true. And they are doing great job. I'm from country in Europe and comics are not 'big thing' here, but via Internet, movies and cartoons I learned quite a lot. As I was kid I knew for Batman, Sups and Spiderman. Marvel made such amazing job with making those ''b-list'' superheroes popular. I really hope that pussies from DC/WB will catch up soon. Look at them, they are making 1 movie every 3 years. They delayed 'BvS', movie about 2 most popular heroes in the universe and Disney is making 'GoTG' who are very popular with all 16 people who read that comic ;) Pfff. And for couple of years GoTG will be popular I'm sure. Stop being such a pussy DC!!!
Christian Santana I think it was predicting that he would get powers. Kevin Feige talked about it and said that at this point Strange is just a brilliant neurosurgeon who is arrogant and opinionated at this point.
Yeah I think were kinda gonna get that in Age Of Ultron with Scarlet Witch. But still on the fence with how they explained they got their powers in the post credit scene.
After seeing this movie, I want a Nick Fury origin movie. I want to see how he got to Level 10 and him kicking ass in field missions when he was younger.
LOL Kinda like XXX with samuel on missions.. Sam ,has always played great military leaders in badass movies or mentors , star wars , SWAT, and Marvel movies
Unshaved Stuff Well, obviously it's an assumption at the moment, but I'm pretty sure that's what they'll be called. I've seen other people saying the same thing.
The age of miracles is just a way of bypassing the idea that this is all scientifically possible. They're introducing characters like Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange who are "magic," something Tony Stark's going to have a problem with. This is all supposed to build up to Thanos's Infinite Gauntlet that will play a big role in Avengers 2, 3 and most movies in between.
You made a comment in the review video that after watching the movie I completely agree. This is this generation's Empire Strikes Back movie. It mirrors it beautifully, and gives hope and promise not only to the MCU being run by Disney, but also the Star Wars universe as well.
Okay... How can no one recognize Bucky as The Winter Soldier on the trailer? A lot of my friends complained that I've spoiled the thing when I told them "Bucky is gonna be awesome as the winter soldier". But IT'S NOT A SPOILER!!!!! I knew the story from the comics, but you can clearly see Sebastian Stan's face on the trailers and TV Spots.
AJA Ryan1994 Top 4 MCU Movies: Note: Aside from TWS which is MUCH better than the other 3 on this list, Captain America - CW, Iron Man, & Guardians of The Galaxy are ALL Neck & Neck, so therefore are interchangeable. 1: Captain America - TWS 2: Captain America - CW 3: Iron Man 4: Guardians of The Galaxy
I have come from the far future of 2019 and can tell you all that Bucky does indeed turn up again, they work out a deal to have Spider-Man in the movies and Disney buy Fox. You're welcome!
True. They can throw in as many CU characters as they like, The Avengers are still gonna get their shit pushed in when that third movie comes around. I mean you can't have a major event-comic without SOMEBODY dying.
This was easily the best of Phase 2, and one of the strongest sequels I've ever seen. The scene after the stylized credits was kind of meh, mostly because I don't have a clue who the twins are (someone will undoubtedly tell me, and I will read up on them as much as I can)
The Hydra guy was Baron Von Strucker, a fairly big Avengers enemy. The 'Twins' were Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, Magneto's mutant-powered children who were later inducted into The Avengers (although the movies have clearly changed that Magneto bit for obvious reasons). All three of these characters will be major players in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Also this scene kind of confirmed that Loki's staff contains one of the six infinity stones. Which is definitely gonna be important in Avengers 3, but will also probably be very important in Avengers 2 seeing as they placed it here.
I say 'kind of confirmed' because it's appearance here makes it more than just a throw-away weapon from Avengers, and if it's officially important now then I'd imagine it's infinity-stone related. I mean they're clearly trying to show off each separate stone before Avengers 3, and why waste time introducing ANOTHER mind-altering gem when they can easily just go 'Hey, remember how Loki controlled peoples minds with this? Cool, because now it's important.'
I know that someone has already said this but I'll say it again: Pietro and Wanda Maximoff aka Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. As there are no mutants in this universe, their point of creation relates back to a very prominent trophy we saw at the top of the first easter egg scene.
Regarding Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver- Both Marvel/Disney AND Fox own the movie rights to them. So both companies are allowed to have both characters in their movie, but there are exceptions: -In the Avengers both characters cannot be called "Mutant" nor can they have any reference to their father, Magneto. -In Days of Future Past, they cannot have anything to do with the Avengers or make any mention of being part of a team. Sadly, Spider-Man and Wolverine can never appear in the Avengers/MCU because Spidey is owned by Sony and Wolverine is owned by Fox. :( I would LOVE to see them both in an Avengers movie!
While The Avengers is my favorite Marvel movie, this is a very close second movie. The thing I like about this movie is that it is very grounded, realistic, and dark compared to the rest of the Marvel movies. The new suit is my favorite Captain America suit. The characters are all fantastic in this one. This movie made me respect Captain America more. Black Widow is still a great character. Nick Fury has more to do and this is also my favorite Nick Fury movie. The Winter Soldier is a great villain. The HYDRA agents are great. The action and fight scenes are well choreographed. The dialog is good. Everything about this movie is 100% fantastic. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is in my top 10 movies of all time.
I knew Bucky was the Winter Soldier from the comics? I'm I really the only one? No spoiler required. I was hyped when the title was revealed though, but then I was disappointed because there just wasn't a Winter Soldier team up to defeat HYDRA. Really I was expecting him to turn good, and have at least one hero battle where Cap teaches him goodness is one of Cap's famous speeches.
Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch are a special example because even though they're mutants and Magneto's kids, they're more synonymous with Avengers, so they can go either or. Wolverine and Spiderman not so much.
Also loved how they had more time to explain Steve adapting to the modern world or this world as we put it. Very well told with story and all. Well done indeed.
This movie renewed my faith in marvel and movie making in general. The plot & script were incredible, the acting was amazing, and the action sequences were so astounding. I would watch this movie ten times in a row and not get tired with it. I have no idea how it has done at the box office but it deserves all the praise it gets. Im totally buying this when it comes out on blu ray
I wasn't a fan of the "Iron Man" sequels and the "Thor" sequel so "The Winter Soldier" is the first true great Marvel sequel to me. The concept that Hydra has been growing inside S.H.I.E.L.D. is a smart way of connecting to the first movie and also has a deep political message as well. The system that was supposed to be protecting the world has actually been intending to destroy it. This theme parallels what could be going on in our own government. Not since the first "Iron Man" have I had a deep thought like that. My only issue was Hawkeye being missing. He absolutely, positively, should've been in the movie. If they could make room for Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and that jerk from "Iron Man 2", there's no excuse as to why one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s signature agents was M.I.A. At least a quick explanation would've sufficed. Nevertheless, one more good "Captain America" and we finally have a three-for-three superhero trilogy besides "The Dark Knight" trilogy. "Captain America 3" certainly has the upper hand over the "Man of Steel" sequel at this point.
Why didn't you talk about Robert Redford? He was so menacing and stuff and that scene with Black Widow being the old lady fighting - man, you missed a bunch of details.
And also Balroc the villain that GSP played in the beginning of the movie. And that Falcon guy who was a badass. How can Jeremy not talk about them too.
The winter soldier was so intense you shit your pants every time Becky walked on screen. He was like the regenerators in dead space, as soon as one showed up you knew shit was ABOUT TO GO DOWN
I remember how my friend spoiled the movie for me. I was just cruising through facebook and my friend is very highleveled in a movie about the marvel universe, so he posts all the time when he levels up, and one of the characters that he cruised around was the winter soldier, and the first thing that says under his bio is the name of the cap's best friend. Thankyou very much!
Disappointed was expecting a little more in depth review . Jeremy just kinda mentioned the spoilers. ..heck I knew that I saw the movie!!!! Was expecting more of a discussion.
This one wsn't a review, dude. This was merely so he could talk quickly about awesome stuff he couldn't mention in the the actual review for fear of spoilers, although yeah, it would have been nicer if he had gone a little more in-depth.
Finally saw this one last night, Mr. Jahns, spur of the moment that came courtesy of an old friend. It was everything you said and frankly the most paranoid movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far. Three things you didn't talk about: 1) Sam Wilson...best superhero backup (I refuse to say "sidekick" for this guy) ever! 2) Anim Zola popping up again in a form that is highly reminiscent of the original Jack Kirby design mixed with 1970s tech (the reel-to-reel players pegged that setup as being the 70s even before Zola mentioned that's when he transferred his consciousness)...deeply unsettling. 3) Alexander Pierce being unmasked as the ultimate baddie...I should have seen it coming. I have a vague memory that Alexander Pierce was originally an alias for Baron Von Strucker (who we saw in our little easter egg moment, so yeah, I know it's not the same guy).
I just love how Peggy, the security guard, came out. He is the first ever agent of shield and one true badass. To know who he is look at, The adventures of Spider-Man, and The Avengers earths mightiest heroes. Two good shows and I already knew who winter soldier was as of these cartoons. Great shows and recommended to watch
You're right in that Iron Man's after credit where Nick Fury first speaks about the Avengers is amazing, but the after credits in the Avengers where we see Thanos is even better in my opinion!
did anyone see the homage to Samuel L Jackson's Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction on Nick Fury's tombstone? It said "The path of the righteous man..." Awesome! hahaha
I LOVED this movie, and my favorite part was the knife-fight in the street: Cap in his Dockers and Nikes with just his shield, and the scary-ass Winter Soldier with his metal arm and guns and knives. So effin' RAD!
I didn't realize the twins were the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver until you brought it up. Thank you! My friends asked me who they were because I am the comic book guy in the group and I couldn't tell them.
I have to say this is one of the very few marvel movies tht leaves a HUGE impact for the future. Iron Man 1 did it and the Avengers did it too but nothing can beat this movie. I have to give this movie second place and the avengers will stay the first just because The Avengers is the big movie franchise with the highest box office, and the fact that it establish a group of superheroes together. CA The winter Soldier would have been the top. So the Avengers I gave was a 10/10 This movie is like 9.9999999(and so on)/10 This is soooo close
Honestly I didn't think Fury was going to be dead. Sure I had a "well maybe" at certain points, but I didn't think it was likely. It was just a great movie. Easily moving into the top 3 of the Marvel movies to this point. The Hydra twist was brilliant and I never saw it coming. Even though for weeks I kept seeing the whole "hail hydra" meme popping up here and there. Huge surprise that they had to pretty much kill Shield because there was no cutting away the Hydra cancer at this point. Did make me instantly wonder what's up with Agents of Shield then. Maybe they will just rebuild. Start from scratch. Since a Shield organization is probably necessary even with that world transitioning into an age of superheroes. Nice move with the Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch parts. A nice twist to explain how they can exist in that universe.
I thought the same thing about the Winter Soldier not being the real main "event" in the movie after watching it, but I got to say I still love him to bits and I'm really excited that they left room for the possibility of seeing him again and that Cap wants to go look for him. Just love the whole bromance thing. So yeah.. that.
The thing with those characters is something like they showed up in the avengers comics first or early on and so long as they don't call them mutants, reference their father or use their codenames it's good. Unfortunately it's a special case.
I love that Marvel isn't afraid to take risks. That's why I prefer Marvel over DC. It took DC years to start making a Justice League movie because they thought that it's too risky. Marvel is over here like ,,We will take all our heroes from all of our movies, put them into one team and make them fight and alien invasion. Oh, and you know that comic that almost no one read? Yeah, we'll make a movie out of it. Bradley Cooper will be a raccoon and Vin Diesel will be a tree. And call Zoe Saldana, she's gonna be green in this movie. You know, our universe is heavily based on S.I.E.L.D... Destroy that in the new Captain America movie''
I like to think of superheroes as characters from Greek Mythology. There are varying renditions/interpretations of each god (or in this case superhero) and they all have their own separate story line.
For the most part, I agree. I just wish that The Winter Soldier had a few more cameos in it. (I know, I'm being greedy, but still) Idk how to explain, but I feel like even if Tony, Bruce or Clint (especially Clint--He needs more love) were in it it would feel more real. Without them, it reminds me that they're actors and they have a schedule and other movies to do. It reminds me that it's all fake, if that makes any sense. It probably doesn't XD In my opinion, just because of the unity and togetherness of The Avengers, it just makes it feel that much more real, which makes it the better movie in my opinion. If I were to scale the movies out of 5 stars, Avengers would be 5 stars and Winter Soldier would be 4.9. That's how much I really do love both of them.
I agree. I loved The Winter Soldier because it had more action and a better story. I remember when I first saw the trailer for Iron Man 3 I said to myself, " What the heck? Were are all the other Avengers? OK Thor is in Asgard, I understand if Bruce dosn't want as much stress on him after the Avengers. But everyone else should be there!!!" But the Winter Soldier has all the reasons not to have the others. Tony has stopped being Iron Man ( for know at least) Thor is in Asgard, Bruce my not as much stress still (best thing I can think of still), the only one that needs to be there is Hawk eye ( he really dosn't get a lot of love). That's why I thought The Winter Soldier was almost PERFECT!!!
I saw it today, and was very impressed. Looking forward to what comes next. And I feel the same way you do, Jeremy, about Cap putting on his original uniform. Way better than the newer one he had on for the first half. Cap should ALWAYS be sporting the stars and stripes!
Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are a sort of loophole in the contract, allowing them to appear in both film types. Sorry Jeremy, only those two. Everyone else is stuck in their respective zone. Also did anyone else notice the quote on Fury's fake grave at the end of the movie? Ezekiel 25:17 from Pulp Fiction! Awesome little Easter egg that they threw in.
Captain's Orders."
That line hit me right where I live.
***** *SPOILER ALERT*
Yeah I agree 100%.
***** Well, it's hard not to respect and trust a guy who basically is telling the bad guys, "You want me? Come get me! I'm right here!"
topsui For the record, the other guy was Sgt. James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes. That final scene at the end of the credits where he's walking through the Captain America exhibit and seeing his own glass tombstone there...you know that this has to mess with his head.
Ah, the good times when you could say 'shade of grey' without causing shudders.
lollll
"If i was an intergalactic dude, I would never mess with this planet ever."
Oh Jeremy.
I was surprised at how threatening the Winter Soldier was. He isn't in it much but when he is he just steals the show. The incredibly dark music, his unbreakable stoic movements. He truly feels like a machine built to kill. The scene at the ass end of the film was so haunting.
he is like a terminator
THEY ALMOST DIDN'T BELIEVE ME! They thought there wasn't going to be a scene after the long credits. But it was worth it
I personally prefer the "Director of Shield" gear on Cap. The dark blue and silver just looks more like a hardened soldier, whereas the classic costume looks like patriotic idealist.
Truuuu
+Batman Batman are you a fan of Marvel?
Gabriel Petricevic I have bias, because I'm Batman, but yeah. I'm a comic book fan, so I treat them equal. Marvel is clearly winning cinematically, but DC does something that just clicks with the Animated movies. And Comics, too hard to decide.
That’s probably why he got it back in Endgame
love the scene when Cap beats the piss out of like 12 guys in the elevator lol his partners all tazing him so he throws him into the ceiling all AFTER the best 1 liner ever!!!!!!!!1 ("Any of you want to get out?")
That was fucking awesome!
I dont know if anyone noticed the little easter egg but when cap, falcon and black widow were interrogating that guy on the roof he mention Stephen Strange who you all know is.... Doctor Strange
I caught that too. I may have peed a little with excitement.
They mentioned him on Agents of SHIELD as well so its pretty much confirmed they are gonna have him involved at some point.
DaveTh3Ninja I peed everywhere when I saw that scene O.O ....well....in my brain anyways.
Josh Sharpe its mister doctor
Sitwell mentioned Stephen Strange so I can't wait to see how magic will fit into this world.
Azatarot75 Yes but I wonder how different it will be from Thor's "magic".
Daviddjx44 Think I have an answer: quantum physics under another name.
Azatarot75 Yea they are most likely gonna do it like it was done in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice".
Daviddjx44 Maybe, maybe not...another thread of the Thor version of "magic" was how the science was buried under myth, legend, and good old fashioned misunderstanding. You gotta figure that can't be the ONLY tradition so influenced, yes?
Fucking loved this movie. MERICA!
probably gonna be or is the best Marvel phase 2 movie that leads up to age of ultron.
Alex Lino Agreed!
Murica*
Tony Stark that's very humble of you Tony.
Garrett Knisley thanks!
Marvel (to DC): On your left.
DC (to fans): Hey, don't look at me. I do what he (Marvel) does, only slower.
EPIC!! lol
+Roof1975
Sweet
Brace yourself
DC fanboys are coming
hehehe... DC is done
The fist fight scenes and car chases in this movie are the best since the Bourne trilogy props to the directors.
I agree with your top three dude!
Hey, I'm subscribed to you! Cool to see you here lol
wuwuwh0 Thank you man!
Oh, Bucky *is* very important. But he's not the villain, he's the weapon.
took a little bit but I finally saw Captain America today. GREAT movie. I walked out of it very pleased. It was great to see Cap done justice because I felt like he didn't entirely get to shine in his first movie. Here he got to be a bonafide badass which was great. This is currently my 2nd favorite Marvel movie.
Jordann Lee You mean in the first movie, right?
Jordann Lee Maybe Stark, Banner, or Thor can provide a vibranium detector or something.
Jordann Lee Unlikely, given that they made sure that the audience took notice that the shield is gone. Finding the shield isn't exactly a complicated thing. It fell in the Potomac River, not the ocean.
Jordann Lee The shield is propped up against Cap's hospital bed at the end of the movie... at least i think it is. Sure looks like it :/
PinkJellyfishJuice It's not.
I would kill to see how Tony reacts to find out Hydra killed his parents and that senator always on his ass was a Hydra agent. I would love to see him looking for some payback.
I think he'll find out soon and they'll rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D with Tony Stark as the Director, which I believe also happened in the comics.
ndwwrestler2 thanks for ruining it for me :(
Ruining what? The Comics or the movie?
ndwwrestler2
lol I am curious as well. I doubt you have the phase 3 plans on hand and if you do DAMN!
BESM1984 LOL. It's just a theory, I don't know for a fact whether or not that's going to actually happen.
captain america 3: up all night to get Bucky
michael iwaniszek damn this deserves way more likes
I see what you did there 😏
I think we all agree that Nick Fury shooting fake cops with a minigun from an SUV was frickin' badass.
HE Fuckin used a bazooka to stop a jet from flying from the water base which was some of the most badass scenes in the first avengers movie. i was like "FUCK YEAH! you thought the director will sit this one!"
One of the best things about this film was that captain America the first avenger is a much better film after watching winter solider
No it isn't.
To me and a lot of people it's fun to spot all the foreshadowing done in the first avenger
Zerathoriel *No it isn't in my opinion
Just because you personally think something doesn't make it fact kiddo
This is late but the guy that said"no it isn't"probably thought that you said that watching this makes the first one better than this movie
JaL90 first avenger is one of the better MCU movies
The last two episodes of AOS and the Winter soldier blended tv and movies really well. I was not expecting it but u have had a smile plastered on my face for a straight week because of it. Damn Marvel makes it look effortless. What the hell is DC's hang up?
I feel like the theme for Phase 2 is about a "restart"
If you look at all the Phase 2 movies, they end in similar ways...
The actors who play Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are also starring in the new Godzilla movie.
GameStation3 and it's weird because in Godzilla they play husband and wife, but in Age of Ultron they are brother and sister
Malik McAdams
Considering the Ultimates versions of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, its not as weird as you think. There always was kinda an incestuous vibe coming from those two characters in the Ultimates.
Jason Norris I was saying that that's kind of a weird coincidence, but i really need to start reading comics
Frank Grillo is steadily becoming one of my favorite action stars, and I had no idea he would be in Winter Soldier. I kinda flipped out when I saw him. He was such a basses as Rumlow!
Did Jeremy just predict the ending of Avengers Age of Ultron? Looks like it.
Sort-of
Lorenzo Canquin >Implying generic movies aren't easy to predict.
+mooganify
yeah even if you don't read the comics you can predict pretty much everything in these movies, still enjoyable I guess.
no not everything
Where did he predict it??
1:10 “you’re about 6 years too early”
Dat Pulp Fiction reference though...
The story to this movie was phenomenal! I also think it was a smart move to use the a Captain America movie as a way to criticize American for our foreign policies. That could make the movie more popular over seas.
Nice try, kid.
Nice try Brucie, Steve didnt need ya in D.C. but Gotham does, go to them
Batfleck pls stop
1:10 “I almost would like to see her in her own movie.”
Kevin Feige: wHAt iS tHeRe mORe tO sAY?
Oh I don't know... the mid-credits scene of Thor: The Dark World was pretty nerdgasmic... while my friend was just sitting there, confused as to what the big deal was.
THE COLLECTOR!
rsdpioneer10 AND AN INFINITY STONE!
Though most fans are wanting Black Panther or even another solo Hulk film
mariabenz07
My guess is that we won't see a Doctor Strange movie for a good few years, but the guy's probably gonna be playing a major role in other movies to come.
I mean look Strucker's closing line:
"We are entering the age of miracles."
It's basically just Marvel saying:
"Shit's gonna start getting weird and we can't say 'mutants' so it's just gonna have to be magic."
And if they're gonna start bringing magic into Phase 3, I don't think there's any way that Strange won't be a part of that.
Dan Brennan Exactly. I mean c'mon it's going to take a number of heroes to take on Thanos should Marvel do the Infinity Gauntlet.
Dan Brennan What makes you think the Heroes for Hire will be in the Avengers?
Wait Jeremy how do you know what Captain America's director of SHIELD uniform looks like but not know Bucky is the Winter Soldier?
My Top 5 MCU Movies:
1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. The Avengers
3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
4. Iron Man
5. Captain America: The First Avenger
Mysterious Coconut my favourite mcu films:
Captain america: winter soldier
Avengers age of ultron
Captain america
Thor
Avengers
Mysterious Coconut replace number 5 with avengers age of ultron and we will have a deal
Mysterious Coconut Mine are:
1. Avengers
2. Age of Ultron
3. Iron Man
4. Ant Man
5. Winter Soldier
Just saying: Agents of shield is an awesome show...and they had their tie-in with the captain America movie and Hydra saying that director fury was dead xD it's all good!
Hot parts with Black Widow that I can remember:
- The skin-tight black suit in the beginning (SJ got skinnier)
- Showing her stomach to show her cut (0_0)
- The low-cut dress she wears when she's in Sam Wilson's apartment (OMG can SJ get any hotter?)
*CAN* SJ get any hotter??
try to find rated r movie with her in it and find out lol
***** I also forgot to add in the bit of dialogue that always manages to crack me up and find SJ all the more sexy, even around Steve Rogers...
"Bye bye, bikinis."
"Yeah I'll bet you look terrible in them now."
Every time I see Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, I can never help but go "Yeah... ;)" every time she says something, cracks a joke, walks sexy or says something involving sexual tension (in this case the "Bye bye bikinis" line ROFL)
lol
And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."
Unloads guns on HUMANS
Dallas Harper Come to think of it...that really DOES sum up Fury too, doesn't it?
Hmm, it's funny how the more GROUNDED Marvel movies are the best in the Cinematic Universe lol. Iron Man 1, Avengers (in a way), and now Captain America 2. I just hope Guardians of the Galaxy is received well by audiences.. it's really outlandish
*****
yeah, that's why I said "in a way".. it was a mixture of realistic and fantastical anyway.
***** I don't know how you might consider avengers as unrealistic considering there is a hulk and a demi-god as part of the main characters..
I literally shat my pants. xDD
Why do you only "almost" want to see a solo Black Widow movie? I definitely would enjoy seeing a solo Black Widow film.
+Corey Andrew Wright She clearly deserved one -- not to mention she deserves to be included in the friggin' merchandise!
Soymaid I agree. Hopefully, it will be done at some point.
+Corey Andrew Wright no one wants to see a 2 hour useless avenger film.
+Nufail Wafrie Well obviously, hence no Hawkeye film. Black Widow, however, is pretty goddamned badass.
I *demand* to see a solo Black Widow film.
Marvel can use Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver because they are part of the Avengers.
Really didn't care much for the first Avengers movie, but very good point. I might rewatch maybe I will appreciate it more.
No, we won't see MCU interpretations of Wolverine, Spider-Man or any of those other characters. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are a very rare case of the cinematic rights to certain characters being split between studios. In this case it's because of their history of switching sides in the comic books.
Two things that are funny about these castings though:

Yeah me to.! I really want to se a deadpool movie.
Daniel Bonde Same here. An R-rated Deadpool movie!
Exactly.! It has to be R-rated, i wont work othervise..
Did any hear that very "strange" reference?
I did! That was awesome!
Aré you speaking about the "doctor"
jaime javier godoy villaseñor
Indeed
Heck yeah, It was quick, but I got it!!
i got it right away.hopefully that reference makes the movie rumors a possibility .
i seen the baxter building i don't know if thats a homage to the captain former life has the human torch or has a potential to lead somewhere else
Sebastion Stan, the actor playing the Winter Soldier signed a 9 movie contact with Marvel. The second post-credit scene shows Bucky finding out who he really is, so my guess is he's a good guy in upcoming movies.
***** wait what, did Tony Stark fucking quit as Iron Man?! Do u have a link?
***** I know they don't have to put him in 9 movies but the fact that he has that opening and the fact that he realized who he was at the end of CATWS makes me think he'll be in future films.
***** who knows. Evan stated that he would stop acting except for the roles he is obliged to (marvel) to focus on his directing career. He also said that maybe in 5 years he might miss acting and might want to do it again, atm anyways he wants to direct and will do so with the money he gains from the marvel successes.
“I would like to see her in her own movie”
That aged well😁
Fox and Disney share ONLY, and I repeat ONLY, 2 characters and they are Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver!
Sucks... its messing up the MARVEL universe wtf was Stan Lee thinking...
Can Miles Morales be in a Marvel movie?
Did anyone else notice the Dr.Strange name drop ?
implying that he may already have his powers or the algorithm can predict who will get powers
Christian Santana I think it was predicting that he would get powers. Kevin Feige talked about it and said that at this point Strange is just a brilliant neurosurgeon who is arrogant and opinionated at this point.
bgkid14 sounds right, the more they talk about it the more i want to see a magic superhero movie though
I'd love to see that.
LOL Kinda like XXX with samuel on missions.. Sam ,has always played great military leaders in badass movies or mentors , star wars , SWAT, and Marvel movies
Jeremy in 2014: If I were some intergalactic asshole I would never mess with this planet, ever.
Thanos in 2018: Hold my beer.
Best movie Marvel made so far
I love this review🤣 8 years have passed and the semi predictions are on point.
In Marvel's films, mutants are now known as 'miracles'.
Unshaved Stuff
Pretty sure it was more of a joke/play on the use of the 'age of miracles'.
HAS ANYONE SEEN AN INTERVIEW? OR THE CASTING? IMBD: SEBASTIAN STAN: BUCKY BARNES/ THE WINTER SOLDIER. even if you know nothing, jon snow, it is known.
hxcjuliie HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA Jon Snow... good one!
Have you ever thought that some people might not have seen all trailers....?
The day Samuel L. Jackson Stops playing as Nick fury will be the day i pour ketchup on my fries
Haha XD
2014 Jeremy “can we have everyone??”.
Me in the way over saturated MCU of 2022 “😞 yes but at what cost?”
As of 2016, my life 4 favourite Margel movies are Civil War, Winter Soldier, Gaurdians of the Galaxy, and Iron Man.
agreed
Mine too

Top 4 MCU Movies:
Note: Aside from TWS which is MUCH better than the other 3 on this list, Captain America - CW, Iron Man, & Guardians of The Galaxy are ALL Neck & Neck, so therefore are interchangeable.
1: Captain America - TWS
2: Captain America - CW
3: Iron Man
4: Guardians of The Galaxy
"Steve Rogers and Scarlet Johansen" I think you mean either "Chris Evans and Scarlet Johansen" or "Steve Rogers and Natasha Romenov"
is the same shit for god sake.
I have come from the far future of 2019 and can tell you all that Bucky does indeed turn up again, they work out a deal to have Spider-Man in the movies and Disney buy Fox. You're welcome!
4:15
Somewhere out there Thanos is laughing his ass off at the thought of Jeremy saying that.
Dan Brennan Thanks, now time to go reading and learn what I can from the comics. I love this universe, it's so rich
Dan Brennan Well it didn't confirm it was an infinity stone, but that hasn't stopped people believing it could be the mind gem.
So both companies are allowed to have both characters in their movie, but there are exceptions:
-In the Avengers both characters cannot be called "Mutant" nor can they have any reference to their father, Magneto.
How could you NOT mention winter soldier's mechanical arm!!!
This made my day and I had a pretty good day! :P
I personally think this was the best superhero movie of all time. Even better than the avengers, iron man, man of steel, and the dark knight.
This is the best MARVEL movie, the dark knight is still better by a bit
elijah hernandez yeah im going Dark Knight on that one but this was still on point
Christian Santana
But it's still good,
I felt bad for the WS because he was a test subject and they kept wiping his memory in the most painful way possible.
You are really good on not giving away spoilers, Jeremy. (Nick Fury comment) Very professional. Thank you.
I watched Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. That's how I found out.
I knew that they were going to bring him back ever since he fell off the train in The First Avenger
Yeah, Earth Mightiest Heroes for me as well
Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch are a special example because even though they're mutants and Magneto's kids, they're more synonymous with Avengers, so they can go either or. Wolverine and Spiderman not so much.
Aww, his 4:00 dream came through all the avengers (cept Thor/Hulk) and their sidekicks kicking butt.
Except they were fighting each other, though I suppose that is more awesome.
"I almost would like to see her in her own movie"
Jeremy is a time traveller confirmed O.o
He did saw her movie.
Captain America The Winter Soldier is my favorite Marvel movie now. It surpassed Iron Man 1, my previous favorite.
Mara hill is kind of important, she's the one who takes over shield after fury (and during civil war) and is also one of the few people he trusts.
Black Widow wore a necklace of an arrow to symbolise Hawkeye ;)
Why didn't you talk about Robert Redford? He was so menacing and stuff and that scene with Black Widow being the old lady fighting - man, you missed a bunch of details.
And also Balroc the villain that GSP played in the beginning of the movie. And that Falcon guy who was a badass. How can Jeremy not talk about them too.
Deceived Heretic YES THAT FIGHT!!!! I saw it on the plane while on a flight back from vacation earlier this morning. Impeccable movie.
1:10 boy will you be in for a treat in 7 years
Disappointed was expecting a little more in depth review .
You can't tell that it's not the review by the title?
Finally saw this one last night, Mr. Jahns, spur of the moment that came courtesy of an old friend. It was everything you said and frankly the most paranoid movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far. Three things you didn't talk about:
1) Sam Wilson...best superhero backup (I refuse to say "sidekick" for this guy) ever!
Also Alexander Pierce's actor was Robert Redford. That guy is 77 years old and he is still so freaking awesome.
AzureRoxe Indeed so...I actually equate him with Mick Jagger in terms of longevity.
Is nobody gonna talk about the par TWS throws the soldier into the plane's motor?
I was like... o___o
I just love how Peggy, the security guard, came out. He is the first ever agent of shield and one true badass. To know who he is look at, The adventures of Spider-Man, and The Avengers earths mightiest heroes. Two good shows and I already knew who winter soldier was as of these cartoons. Great shows and recommended to watch
the Nick Fury car scene was awesome
You're right in that Iron Man's after credit where Nick Fury first speaks about the Avengers is amazing, but the after credits in the Avengers where we see Thanos is even better in my opinion!
did anyone see the homage to Samuel L Jackson's Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction on Nick Fury's tombstone? It said "The path of the righteous man..." Awesome! hahaha
that is hilarious
I loved all the Easter eggs in this movie! Especially the one of Dr. Steven Strange.
Weed Talk yeah i thought i heard that! i wasn't sure.
I agree with you, Scarlett Jo is a bad-ASS Avenger. In fact, she is an ASS-venger lol
You have an awesome name.
thank you
That was SO bad, it made me cringe.
Jimmy Doonko
You should check out Assvengers though. Nice shit.
nah. not worth my time.
That is a fantastic way to look at it!
The Winter Soldier had all the best parts!!! He made the movie for me!!! I liked it MORE than THE AVENGERS!!!
It probably doesn't XD
In my opinion, just because of the unity and togetherness of The Avengers, it just makes it feel that much more real, which makes it the better movie in my opinion.
But everyone else should be there!!!"
But the Winter Soldier has all the reasons not to have the others.
Same. I think both movies are almost perfect. At the moment, they're my first and second favorite movies.
Nice!!!
I saw it today, and was very impressed. Looking forward to what comes next. And I feel the same way you do, Jeremy, about Cap putting on his original uniform. Way better than the newer one he had on for the first half. Cap should ALWAYS be sporting the stars and stripes!
This movie had some of the most intense action sequences I've seen in recent memory.
I KNEW that I recognized that from somewhere! Thanks!
"The path of the righteous man..."
Classic!
:O I would have never noticed that, sounds awesome!
Yes the pulp fiction reference I knew I wasn't the only one that noticed!
