Great video well explained however having drove multi combination trucks in Australia I was gutted to find out it was not recognised here and now I have to start al over and the cost is astronomical from what I have seen
MotoNinja we had a guy come through us recently that had been driving Roadtrains in Aus. He didn’t need as many lessons as a normal course, so don’t let it put you off.
Also. I am having trouble getting clear information on whether or not I need ans O license or any other addition to my C1 license. (I passed my test in 1985 so automatically have the C1) Reason being I recently discovered my Sprinter luton full of tools which I use for my trade as a cabinet maker boat builder is about 500kg over weight so need to move up to a 6.5 ton Iveco (for example) so do I need an Operator's license and anything else just to run one truck?
Very useful information as always 👍, i got a question...can a cat B licence holder apply for a tachograph card ? Or he must have hgv categories endorsement on his licence?
Thanks for the help. I am still a bit confused as to what licence I need because my plan is to buy a double decker bus and convert it into a home on wheels. I only have a car driving licence currently. To drive a bus which class would I need would it be a class C or would I have to get a full coach licence PCV? I would never use it as a bus to carry people and reregister it as a motorhome on completion. Just need to drive it home for now. Thank you any help would be gratefully received.
Gareth if it’s classed as a bus now, you’d need a bus Cat. D licence to drive it. If you change the classification of it you’d then need a truck licence. It goes off the number of passenger seats, whilst it’s a bus. It goes off the weight if it’s classed as a truck. It’s a complicated one really.
This might be an odd question - but I currently have a purely automatic car license and am planning on getting C1 or C (still unsure which as it will be for transportation of filming equipment for my work). If I took a test would I be restricted to only learning in an automatic or would I be able to take a manual test? Assuming I can take a manual test, would that then pass down to my car license also? I learnt automatic because I was getting incredibly stressed by instructors basically being arseholes over the fact I'm autistic and I just wanted to be able to get out on the road.
Hi, because you only have an auto car licence, if you took a C1 or C test in an auto, you would only get an auto licence. However, if you take a C1 or C test in a manual it would pass down to give you a car manual licence also. Hope this helps. Feel free to email us if we can be of further help. info@benshawtraining.co.uk Ben.
I past my test in 1985 what do I need to do before I start driving for company's. I know I need my cpc what does that entail and is there anything else I need to do.
warrior 67 it depends what type of vehicle you want to drive. It’s best to have a look on our website or Facebook page for more info, and then ask us more questions from there, or give us a call. Regards, Ben. 01282 614124 www.benshawtraining.co.uk
warrior 67 You just need to do your LGV Driver CPC. You can either do a 35 hour ‘Periodic Training’ classroom course, or you can do the ‘Initial Qualification’ theory test and practical test. Both are about the same price. Initial Qualification is less time spent in a classroom, but require more studying, and you can fail. Periodic Training is an attendance course, where you’ll learn a lot if you are new to truck driving.
Dear sir i got full car licence category B last week so am i eligible to apply for c1 right now? 2nd if i choose automatic vehicle for c1 and got licence of it then am i eligible to drive manual vehicle of same category.
Pazza ray it’s best to speak to the Traffic Commissioners Office, and then you can give them your exact details. I’d say no, but don’t take my word for it. 👍🏻
You need to know your gross plated weight by looking at your VTG6 plate, and then find out the actual weight of your vehicles by taking them to a weigh bridge and deducting the weight from the plated weight. Hope that helps. Ben.

Morning. You would need to apply for a UK Car driving licence, before you could apply for a C provisional licence. The whole process could take up to 3 months to complete your LGV C. Please feel free to email us on info@benshawtraining.co.uk.
I think it worthwhile people knowing that anything over 3.5 ton has to have an operator's licence to get insurance if they want to drive their own vehicle. I have all categories on my licence except hgv people assume the weight can be driven up to 7.5 and then can't get insurance without the operating licence. Be aware people.
good videos pal keep them coming

You said I can choose any of the vehicles, but I thought one had to pass class 2 (rigid) before taking class 1 (artic). Is that right?

JANAAN Official Yes you can apply for a digital tachograph card any time you like.

Hi good vid but what about the Artic, is it the same or do you have to do something different?
M M Have you got your C (Class 2) already? You need to do this before moving onto the Artic C+E Class 1.
Hiya I just wanted to know should I get C or CE ? Or can I go for CE for first ?
Hi!
Where is your driving school located?
for a c1provisional licence entitlement do you still need to do a medical test? also is a c1 a large or medium sized van?
26CT2793 Yes you still need to do a medical as it’s classed as a Large Goods Vehicle. Anything goods vehicle over 3,500kg is classed as an LGV.
Can you take your class c+e in automatic
Well done lot of information in this video
But can you confirm me 12 tyres truck under LGV or HGV which you show in video in your left side
LGV & HGV are the same thing.
Large Goods Vehicle
Heavy Goods Vehicle.
LGV is just the new name.

Can you go straight for a class c with a car licence after 1997 or do you need c1 first?

Yes you’re good to go now. And yes you will be able to drive a manual when passing in an automatic, as long as passed your car test in a manual.

Aras Aziz no theory test for B+E. This is because you passed a theory test before you took your car driving test.
