I love this film. It’s almost criminally underrated. George clooney is a great director. David Strathairn is an amazing actor and Edward R Murrow was a genius.

'Dissent is Not Disloyalty' Edward R Murrow 1954, "We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember that accusation and is not proof of guilt, and that conviction depends on evidence, and due Process of Law. We will not walk in fear, one or another, we will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason. If we dig deep into our history and doctrines, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, nor from men who are feared to write, to speak out, to associate with, and defend causes that were at the time unpopular" Ed R Murrow.
He foresaw the future and tried to warn us. It is not yet too late.

"decadence, escapism, and insulation from the realities of the world in which we live."
This assessment maps imperfectly, but valuably, onto the 21st century. We are no longer insulated from harsh realities in our minds: digital news media constantly informs everyone about everything wrong with and happening in the world. But the addiction to escapism has increased a hundredfold. This could suggest that informing, teaching and alerting people - as Murrow hoped we might - does not actually effect positive change, because people feel too small relative to the modern world's problems to effect a positive change. So the more aware they become of the problems, the more they crave escapism, even as they recognise the moral duty to be so aware. We bounce between the grimness of global news, the cynicism of modern politics, the harshness of our finances and the tedium of our work lives, on the one hand, and the hedonic bliss of TV, films, games, music, porn, junk food and drugs, on the other, compelled by enlightenment values to try to understand but disillusioned to the point of escapist withdrawal by what we learn.
Well he says they are wealthy and comfortable that's why they want to avoid harsh realities years earlier though the country was not wealthy and comfortable and then it's not so easy to just not notice poverty or other social problems when you are a victim or witness personally still many are helpless victims of circumstances this movie was more relevant about modern day witch hunts than anything.
I often wonder what Ed Murrow would think of today's networks. The instrument has now graduated into not only providing information, but also providing much DIS-INFORMATION. Even more damaging than his previous worry it would only 'entertain, amuse, and insulate' ......
Tbh I think it’s the opposite nowadays. People are distracted by information that doesn’t affect their lives and distracts them from it. It’s infotainment.

There is more truth in what he says then we recognize there is more truth in what he says, in today’s world that we must recognize. Character, honesty, commitment, perseverance truth above all else is sadly lacking in this country. The current political atmosphere is an extension of the degradation of American society and the snapshot in 1958 as a perfect example of where we are in 2023 wake up America before it’s too late
