Joe, I got my HAM license in 1977. Advanced Class with Morris Code. In those days most everything was an experiment. We did field days with HF from a windmill supplying 12 volts. We did EME (Earth, Moom, Earth) that was really cool bouncing radio waves off the Moon and received somewhere on earth. We communicated with Astronauts in orbit. With real HF I have talked to Pitcairn Island, the Shaw of Iran and many more. We ran 2-meter repeaters from our homes. So, sadly, at my age, I am not really excited about AMSAT but I am really glad you are. Most anything you do in the HAM world is exciting. 73s KH6JMK
LOL! Stan first off you need to get a DMR rig so we can chat second you are one of those souls that even beats me on been there done that (which is hard). It is so cool that I have gotten to at least e-meet you! With John leaving T-Mobile, I maybe once again heading regularly to Seattle and really want to make it a point to shake your hand in person!
@@radiotech2932 Sounds good Joe. I like T-Moble but weak signal here. Verizon is the only one that covers our area. I use my phone for my vehicle radio. I just purchased a BaoFeng BF-F8HP and trying to get back into HAM a bit. So far I have disappointed about how few HAMs use the many repeaters around here. I looked into Echolink but that also has been disappointing. It seems they really don't have downloads for Macs and so far I have heard nothing from the one repeater that is reported to be an Echolink repeater. I look forward to when you can come this way and have time to meet. We are just an hour ferry ride to Bremerton.
@@radiotech2932 I gave up on DRM and sent the radio back. Too much confusing and programing and unable to find a programing software for the radio. Tell me more about Hot Spot.
I love your perspective and attitude.
Very good pitch! I learned about amsat at a hamfest today. Might have to throw some money at them. Thanks for the video!

Stan, forget Echolink for now, get a PiStar HotSpot and DMR (BrandMeister) Radio...

Okay Joe, I bought a DMR machine and I found a DMR repeater not far from here. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Get a Pi Star hot spot too so you don’t have worry about a repeater
@@radiotech2932 I looked at Pi Star and not very impressed yet. My Baofeng DMR arrives today. I will play with that first.
@@StanCook They are very good, give it a try before you criticise
