Yayan Ruhian is the martial artist who plays Mad Dog. He's both a fight choreographer and a martial artist. And his exhibitions are pretty epic. For 5'2" he's terrifying. He was also in John Wick 3.
The only problem with The Raid is that it makes you disappointed in every fight scene you'll ever see again...except for Raid 2, which has probably the sweetest 1v1 fight scene ever put to film. Loved your reaction to this one and I cannot wait for you to do the 2nd!
@Vector702 I'm happy with the John WIck films. They're as good as it gets for Hollywood fight scenes. What The Raid makes age really poorly are things like the Bourne movies. I remember seeing those in the theater and thinking the fight scenes were great, but now you go back to watch them again and all you can see is a bunch of quick-cut (literally 1 move then a cut) jerky camera work.
nah. if we want to talk about disapointment, the only one is.. What I love about the drug lab scene is each one has their own unique fighting style. Iko Uwais is a Pencak Silat fighter, so he is used to fighting in the clinch. His backup is a TaeKwonDo fighter so he is mostly blocking and kicking. The corrupt police lieutenant is fighting dirty. Also the guy who plays the machete leader is another local Indonesian martial artist, Alfridus Godfred. While Indonesia is known for Pencak Silat, Alfridus does what is called Tarung Derajat which is an Indonesian boxing style that incorporates kicks, grappling, and weapons into the traditional boxing. Alfridus is a super nice dude in real life, too, which is yet more proof how the best villains in movies are the coolest people in person. If you want another good film about martial artist in horror scenario, check out I Saw The Devil.

In the Expendables with Tony Jaa! I know they are pitting Iko against Jason Statham, but I'm way more interested in Iko vs. Jaa. J needs to see Ong Bak and the Protector. Yeah they are not too great of films, but the action is fantastic.
Hilarious video as always 😂😂😂 So many films talk a big game about their fight scenes, but none come even close to The Raid. The recent Snake-Eyes movie is one that comes to mind as a film that just did not deliver. The Raid is truly the gold standard. Also if you really want to see Joe Taslim kicking butt, he is in a film called of the Night Comes For Us. It's just as good as The Raid IMO
It's always great to see gems of SE Asian cinema get appreciated. There's amazing use of the various Silats (way of fighting) of Indonesia here, from unarmed, to stick and blade. You would also enjoy the work of Tony Jaa, who is a fantastic muay thai practitioner. Ong-Bak and The Protector for two of his best.
I consider this the best martial art film I have ever seen. While I am huge fan of Shawn brothers Kung-Fu films, all Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Donnie Yen and Jet Li films, the action in this one is second to none. Most moves are not really to show off or exaggirated. They are highly effective moves and all the spots they go with knife are actually spots you taught to go with knife in close combat. They don't censor spots like in Hollywood films. This film made huge fan of: Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Joe Taslim

The Raid 1 and 2 are built up like a computer game. "SWAT against bosses". Floors (levels) full of trash mobs, up to the dungeon boss! I was so hyped to see this notification come up, once again you outdid yourself with your reaction and commentary. The "For the Lin Kuei" had me rolling. I gotta say, I am glad you are visiting some martial arts movies on the channel. I got into martial arts movies when I was 10-12 when I first watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and soon fell into a rabbit hole of martial arts movie addiction. I started with the classics such as The 36 Chambers of Shaolin to more modern less "classic" martial arts movies like John Wick. The Raid: Redemption is one of my favorites, Iko Uwais is a hell of beast in this genre and that's saying something considering the previous actors he had to compete with. Actors like Tony Leung, Jackie Chan, Wong Kar-wai, Jet Li, Bruce Lee and Andy Lau. He is one of my favorite martial arts movie actors and all the films he stars in has amazing choreography, if you want to see more movies like this consider watching the Ong Bak movies with Tony Jaa, if you want something a bit older lots of Jackie Chan's movies like Police Story and Drunken Master are also really good. It's even more impressive to me seeing this type of film because stunt actors across the sea aren't as precautious as the ones here in the US. Many old school martial arts movie actors (notably Jackie Chan) did their own stunts and even got hurt during filming cause of it. Very few of the fall and punches and kicks are done with wires and some of the stuntmen are ACTUALLY taking some of these hits. They don't make em here like they do over there.
I wish that I could give multiple likes for this reaction. I love this genre of movies. What a great time watching you. Thanks guys. You really do a great job!
This is one of the best action movies I've ever seen and kinda ruined newer Hollywood action movies for me. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy them but when a somewhat "realistic" action movie comes out I compare it to this. This feels real and gritty, people sweat, get bruised, get cut, get exhausted. Hits are brutal and impactful.
"For the Lin Kuei", "Can you blink for me?? Thank you!", cockroaches and Detroit shade = an absolutely delight to watch this, even though the movie was completely unknown to me 😂
The boss asked him to show his hands to see any sign of fighting/ fist fighting, but there's none. He likes playing games, it's a bait, and a formality since he already saw them from the CCTV room.
Also.. We gonna do the sequel right? We need to do the sequel... I think joe was the best fighter on the cop squad, but the fact that he had to solo sealed his fate

Hey dude if you get the chance you should react to these two series Into the Badlands, and Warrior
I wish that I could give multiple likes for this reaction. I love this genre of movies. What a great time watching you. Thanks guys. You really do a great job!
If you wanna see Joe taslim (sub zero) fight scene go watch the night comes for us
THE RAID 2 pleeaseee,..
Great film. The second one has a different tone but has some of the best fight scenes ever. Excited to watch this!
Mad Dog may be brutal, but he never cheats when he fights.
There is raid 2 and The night comes for us. Same actors and action packed
I'm a cat person myself, but your copilots are adorable.
Time for Raid 2 😊
This reaction was amazing, had me in stitches bro! Watch the sequel for hammer girl and the kitchen fight..
LOL he got me. But just for that, you all just lost The Game.
🐐🐐🐐🐐
Now all you need to see is...The Sequel. Part 2!
Watch the show Warrior he is in it and kicks ass left and right.
Part 2!
The greatest fight movie of all time. This has most of my favorite kills. So dope in the theater. And of all the characters how could you forget who Mad Dog was? You kept going on about how crazy he was and how good he can fight and forgot it was Mad Dog. 😂
Nice! This is the most brutal martial arts film ever. Love it!
Joe did so much better in this than MK allowed him to be.
