I also try to watch foreign films with subtitles instead of dubbed. It gives more of the emotion of the actors and I can feel it more than dub
I can't believe Amazon doesn't have an option for subtitles. Whoever is in charge of that is dropping the ball.
Prakoso's back story is that, as Bangun's most loyal and reliable man, he was well paid and lived a rich, flashy lifestyle that impressed his future wife and swept off her feet when she was younger and still naive. She fell in love and married him, and the had a son. However when she found out that Parkoso was a professional killer, she was horrified and disgusted and demanded that he quit, but his deep sense of loyalty to Bangun would not allow him to quit, so she left him and took their son with her. As a sort of self imposed penance, Prakoso became homeless, giving up all his comforts and luxuries and sending the money Bangun pays him to his wife and son.
I always thought that Mad Dog and Prakoso are related, I thought Mad Dog is his son.
Honestly superior to any of the John Wick movies. The sheer volume of fight choreography, let alone the quality itself, is insane. Also the undercover cop storyline is actually a great plot point as well.
The first Raid was the one that set the line for what makes a good action movie. John wick is a close second because its been one of the few series that scratches that itch for me.
13 Ghosts II playing while no other sound is playing with Rama saying “no, I’m done” is just pure chills a perfect ending.

Fact: the actors who played Baseball Bat Man and Hammer Girl came up with a story that they were bother and sister who's mother left them with their abusive-alcoholic father who tormented them until they couldn't take it anymore and were gonna flip a coin to decided who would kill him. Sadly, their father overheard their plotting and attacked them in an alcohol-fueled rage. He gouged out one of Hammer Girl's eyes, but they persevered and eventually beat their father to death with the hammers and baseball bats. After that, they went under and became killer for hire.

Alicia (hammer girl) is deaf (sign language would imply total deafness) and is missing one eye, not eyes. Otherwise the sign language would be redundant, and I guess she would need daredevill like superpowers, but she doesn't, because she can still see.
I’m still mad at Gareth evans for telling us it would be a trilogy and then ending it here. I needed moooooore. But I will always be grateful for him creating the greatest martial arts movies ever.

I've seen the original so many times at this point, but I have only ever watched The Raid 2 once before. It's a totally different beast from the original's claustrophobia, opening out its action to the city streets and beyond

That Rama vs. the Assassin kitchen fight is one of the greatest 1-on-1 fights I have ever seen. Even to this day I still get an adrenaline rush watching it. I legit got scared that Rama wouldn't even make it given he took so many cuts and slices from the Assassin's karambit. And the way the music score picks up tempo the closer we got to the climax... WHEW. I had no clue who was gonna win at that point.

There were talks of a third film, but it was cancelled as the film wasn't a box office success, making $6 million dollars against a $4 million dollar budget.
The 3rd? Or The Raid Hollywood Remake which was ultimately canceled, there were no enthusiastic fans of the Raid to support it because it would destroy the foundation of the Raid, namely pencak silat / silat

Does anyone realize that when we have something we want, Gareth gives the next scene as an answer, when after brotherrr-sister "hammergirl and baseball batboy, we definitely ask where Rama's action fight scene, and Gareth deliver the answer in the next action 🤣
Julie Estelle was popular as a romantic leading lady before playing Hammer Girl, so in the first take of the hallway fight, when Rama throws Hammer Girl into the wall, Iko Uwais was trying so hard not to hurt Julie Estelle that he carefully lifted her, pressed her against the wall, then gently lowered her to the floor.
The only movie I must recommend since you loved The Raid 1 & 2 is definitely The Night Comes For Us (Netflix).
The violence and intensity in the action scenes are very close to those two films. It's even more violent actually and a great ride. See it as a spiritual sequel since there's no Raid 3 and it also stars Iko Uwais.

And of all the fighting scenes, the fight between Iko vs Joe is the most awaited, because the only thing relevant to martial arts is them, even in my opinion the chaos at the beginning of the film (even though Bobby looks badass, the choreography is very unsatisfactory, of course they are not martial arts athletes, like Iko and Joe) Very unsatisfying

Jesus the action in this movie is just insane
Joe Taslim (who played Jaka in "The Raid") and Julie Estelle (Hammer Girl) star in "The Night Come For Us" (2018). The choreography is more down and dirty and brutish than the Raid movies, but it's both the physical action and the emotional drama are intense as hell. You should consider watching it.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDING THIS ONE
Second this one. It's defo the next one to watch after Raid 2. Brilliant film and so many great fight scenes.

Love how the Raid movies show a downright terrifying opponent in the two smallest men (Mad Dog / The Assasin in the kitchen). Then they both show up and kick John Wick's ass. Short king villains, ftw. 😆
28:28 Just one out of many really clever pieces of film-making. The camera gets passed from outside the car to another camera operator inside the car...disguised as the passenger seat!
What a sequel, the story is great.
Fun fact: In the car chase scene, there's a part where the camera goes from outside the car to inside, done by a dude dressing up as the white car seat, which is hilarious. You can kinda see him if you look during that transition.

And for Korean action, The Man from Nowhere is also great. Not to spoil anything, but there's a top 5 knife fight in that one too

that Karambit fight at the end is amazing.
The Raid 2 is an endurance watch, it gives you an action scene to raise adrenaline and then settles down a little, before another big action scene which raises you adrenaline, and this happens several times which can leave you weirdly feeling tired at the end of the movie despite having not moved whilst watching the movie.
Yup. For a few years now I've had to split these viewings in two - I'm just too f*cking old! Something like THE NOWHERE MAN is just about what I can take, or CHOCOLATE, which has a "lighter" vibe. These Evans ones hit me in the guts like an overdose of cotton candy. Lolol 👍
Definitely recommend Headshot (2016), a lot of the same actors are in it including Iko Uwais and one of the directors, Timo Tjahjanto, would go on to do The Night Comes for Us also with familiar actors and is practically a horror movie with how brutal the action gets, a modern action classic for sure.
One of the best action movies I've ever seen. So many good fights and action sequences but that car chase and the kitchen fight at the end are mind blowing to me. The first time I saw this my jaw just dropped several times where I barely understood how they even pulled some of these stunts and camera shots off. Incredible!

ok, now that "The Raid" movies are done i have to continue to beg for "Dark City".. a underrated and sadly forgotten gem in my humble opinion. i doubt you will ever react to it, because not many people will ask for it most likely... but if you ever react to it watch the directors cut.. if you end up watching the theatrical cut at least mute the opening monologue, because it basically spoils the mystery/ twist of the story before the movie even starts.. to this day i have no clue who thought the opening of the theatrical cut was a good idea....
Because action films use The Raid as a reference for their action scenes, this makes the latest action films less interesting
I have owned Dark City on DVD, Blu-ray, and now on Amazon Prime! It is one of my all time favorite films! I first saw it in the theater and was blown away! Great sci-fi amd Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Connelly, William Hurt, and Keifer Sutherland absolutely kill it!

Gun is illegal in Indonesia,thats why in raid 1 the newbie police dont know about stay away from windows/wall/door,if Indonesian ppl fight we use just like this movie, we use knife or machete if must. Kids from high School /junior they always fight with another school use sharp weapon.
I’m sure I’m not the first but you guys have to watch “The Night Comes for Us.” It’s all the same people playing different characters and basically it’s Raid 2 on overdrive. Ona 1-10 scale the brutality goes up to 42.
To emphasize how cold blooded The Assassin is, they shot the final fight with Rama in that white kitchen with the cold, bluish fluorescent lighting and made it snow in Jakarta (where the temperature rarely drops below 72°F/22°C) for the scene when he kills Parkoso.
This franchise is brutally awesome, they were filming fight sequence in kitchen ONE YEAR to make it right. And yeah, ther's no Raid 3, BUT, I HIGHLY recommend you to watch "The Night Comes For Us" you'll not be disappointed.

I can proudly say that I watched The Raid 2 in the cinema when it came out and since then nothing managed to scratch that itch. I haven't given up the hope on getting The Raid 3 someday down the line.
Also: Iko Uwais (Rama) career really took off after this and he has been in some A-List Hollywood Blockbusters like Fast & Furious, Star Wars and The Expendables
This fight scene in the beginning when fight in a mud happened: It reminds me of GREAT South Korean film "Rough Cut" (2008) - whole synopsys and context of "Rough Cut" is intriguing and more of that.. whole script based on an original story by Kim Ki-duk ! This movie is extremely realistic in terms of fight scenes (not showy, but realistic) and perfectly dramatic overall. It is movie about.. movie making which smoothly flowing into action drama and existencial re-thinking. It have translated name in some languages which could be looks like "Unfinished\unproduced\unedited movie" which is even more suitable to the whole dramatic concept. I hope you will notice this comment and maybe will check this movie. I've seen this movie around 10-15 years ago, probably, but its just stuck in my head and my memory. AND YES - "Rough Cut" have EXTREMELY touchful and beautiful Soundtrack, just goregeous at some points.

All that you will watch is based on actual events back in the 1940's in Texarkana. The events had everyone boarding up their windows within a 300 mile radius....my mom even remembered her dad covering their windows & they lived 200+ miles away. Originally there was going to be a third entry, but it was more like a prequel of the second movie but it was abandoned and confirmed in 2018. The Raid 2 it's the last one of the franchise.

My take on the ending (and it’s not an original one, others have said it before) is that the Japanese gang offered him a place with them and when Rama declined, they ended him. Sad ending I know but it would track I guess.
1:57 common occurrence in Southeast Asia including my country. You mess with the wrong elite either a business tycoon, politician or a Chinese online gambling lord, you'll end up in there. They pay those farmers to bury you and you'll be a fertilizer for their land.
The worse case in my country is where a bunch of journalists were killed and buried along with their vehicles by a corrupt politician. He used his own private army to do it.

"THE NIGHT COMES FOR US" on Netflix features some of the actors from these two movies, most prominently Julie Estelle (Hammer Girl) as the super badass "The Operator", Joe Taslim, Iko Uwais and is directed by Timo Tjahjanto. If you think the violence in THE RAID was something... just wait till you seen this one! it rivals some of the most gruesome horror movies

As you loved both raid movies you should try The Night Comes for Us which stars IkO Uwais and Joe Taslim from the 1st raid and is even more violent and action packed..
🎉 There are other silat action movies with the same stars, but Raid 2 is so good it's unfair to compare another action movie to it.

You should watch all deleted scenes from the raid 2, it won't take 20 minutes to watch all deleted scenes, you will understand more story, like why Rama in the prison, what did he do? And another brutal gang war
