Trina Hunt was a deeply loved, highly respected woman living in Port Moody, British Columbia. She was fun, kind, generous and had a zest for life that most people don’t have. She was married to a man named Iain Hunt and based on the reporting there didn’t appear to be any major issues in the relationship. However, on January 18th, 2021, he reported her missing after returning from work and not being able to find her. As HIS story goes, he and Trina went to a campsite on January 16th together and didn’t bring their phones because they were doing a “digital detox.” Nobody knows what the couple did on the 17th, because unfortunately, Iain has been super vague about the details… Police and volunteers searched high and low for her, and then, about 2 months later, her remains were uncovered near the area of the campsite they visited that weekend. Is it just a terrible coincidence her remains were found where he said they last visited... or is he responsible?

"i went out, she was sleeping and then I came back and she wasn't there anymore" HOW MANY TIMES are we gonna hear this from suspicious husbands............this excuse is so familiar!! It's like the "we had an argument and then suddenly she took off" excuse!🔍👮🏼
Guilty IMO.
exactly, i have heard this well, it is so ridiculous, red flags
Hes innocent
Or the oh we had an argument and she told me she was going to stay with a family member or took a drive and never came back.
women killers also use that line.
It’s suspicious that he reported her missing like 30 minutes after getting home. As if he knew she was gone.
Right? I'm still stuck on that part
I thought the same thing . After 30 min I might be wondering where the heck someone went, but I wouldn’t think they were MISSING (and adult anyway). Maybe a walk? A run? With a friend? But missing? That would not be my default after only 30 min.
Right? No sign of a struggle, no sign of break in, all her belongings were present. It's weird as hell that 30 minutes later he reported her missing. It would take longer than that to call family and friends.
I was thinking the same thing
Even in missing children cases, it takes an hour or two before the parents/guardians start to worry and call their child's friend's parents to ask if their child is there before filing a missing person case.
They know he did it. They just can't prove it. It's so sad for her family and friends not to have justice for her. To know why it happened.
If only they would make an exception for the rules and use more aggressive tactics of getting answers.
so until they get proof he's just living his life normally as if nothing happened? yikes!
@codezero7981 in some families,a male family member would've ALREADY did them dishes...dirty dishes in a sink are a bad look😒💯💯💯💪🏾🧔🏾♂️
He knows he unalived her. They are letting him think they are done. It may take a few years but trust they are working behind the scenes. People don’t just disappear! They are killed and then disappear only to be found later. They will connect the dots and bring him in. Trust
Tell that to the tens of thousands of cold cases in America.. trust doesn't help.
Who travels 1.5 hrs away from home to a CAMPSITE and not take a phone for emergencies?!?? I mean that’s crazy in this day and age…You don’t have to use the phone but at least put it in your dashboard. 🚩
Exactly ! He drove far thinking the body wouldn't be found
Exactly
In the middle of Canadian winter to boot
Right! Anything could happen without a phone.. your car could breakdown and would need to call for a tow truck. The only reason not to take a phone that far away is because she wasn’t coming back.
And very intentionally NOT making any stops there or back…. 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
her husband killed her, or at the very least knows what happened. its honestly so depressing how common this type of thing is. justice for Trina and for all the women taken by their awful husbands.
He sold their home in Port Moody and moved to Harrison Mills in 2023
He's so guilty smh @@adoraazad
I jumped out of my seat when I saw you posted this. I've been regularly thinking of Trina since I first saw her missing posters around the city. I can't get her out of my head. I even checked two days ago for updates. Thank you for covering this!
Me too!! From the lower mainland, & I saw the name Trina and I was like hold up. I followed this from the beginning and I am still so baffled 😢 definitely different listening to a local case
Same! I'm from the Okanagan and have been following this case since it started. So frustrating!
Yessss. I saw it super early and stopped, like waiiit it’s Trina! Thanks for doing this case Kendall!
Yes!! From the island and was so excited to see this pop up! Thank you Kendall ❤
Me too!!!!
Hi Kendall. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for covering Trina’s story and highlighting what a special & remarkable person she was. January 18 marks 3 years & we aren’t giving up until justice is served ✨💜✨
Never ever give up ❤ we the public will never stop thinking of her and you all
I’m so happy you’re back! I really appreciate the care and compassion you bring to the stories of victims. I’ve been watching you since the zodiac series and you’ve made me really evaluate ethical true crime in today’s media. Thank you for being so kind!

Thank you for covering a Canadian case. As always your coverage is so thoughtful and thorough. I hope they can find justice soon.
I was living in Port Moody when she went missing. We walked the same trails and shopped the same stores. I still can’t believe she is gone. We all knew immediately that it was not good. We also suspected her husband might have something to do with it. There were rumours that he had been cheating and that she was going to leave. No one believes the digital detox story either. Who goes for a road trip without their phone?!
I pray that Trina finally gets the justice she deserves ❤✨
She lived just a couple blocks from where I lived at the time of her disappearance. The family still has large billboards searching for information. Prayers for the family. This is so tragic.
When you said he owned a clean up business my red flags went up
So sad, how can you love someone for so many years and then end it this way, with killing them?! True evil.
This ^
He sold their home in Port Moody and moved to Harrison Mills in 2023
Right, I think this all the time. Any decent person, if they truly loved someone at any point, would never kill them/hurt them. Much less try and seek revenge or attempt to make their life "hell" or physically harm them, regardless of what they did "to them" during the relationship.
You really humanize crime victims, and that, along with your research, sets you apart. Thanks for your work!
It seems the authorities know who killed Trina…but knowing and proving in court are different. Praying more evidence can be gathered 🙏🏼
Exactly! Knowing and proving are two different things.
This case has always baffled me. Happened close to where I live and always had a huge feeling her husband had something to do with her death.
What about the other 2 bodies found? Were they identified? It's weird to have 3 bodies together like that, was there any talk of a serial killer dumping site?
@@zanderisamazing5043 no there wasn't I followed the case quite closely and from what I gathered those other bodies apparently were associated with her death. But honestly whose to say the husband isn't a serial killer? It's very circumstantial, but just throwing out random ideas not saying it's factual.
@@zanderisamazing5043This, among other factors, is what I found particularly peculiar, too. That they found TWO other bodies is absolutely huge!
I’d like to know if they ever identified the other two. And if so, I wonder if there were any relations, however small, between them (the other two deceased) and Ian. This also makes me wonder, if he is the culprit, could Ian be a serial killer? If Ian is innocent (which seems doubtful), then finding 3 bodies in the same area could potentially be the work of a serial killer, one who could still be active in the free world. Either scenario is terrifying.
Regardless, that 2 other bodies were found should be looked into and talked about so much more by authorities and the media.
I’m from this area and remember the two other bodies that were found. The one girl who was found Shaelene, she committed suicide. I personally don’t think he’s a serial killer. And he had nothing to do with the other bodies
As absolutely horrifying as it is, living in the province that contains The Highway of Tears, I didn’t bat an eye at several bodies found along a highway. 😔 It’s disgusting that’s normalised in BC.
This was very disheartening when I saw this in the local news. My mother and I both know that the husband did it. However, our judicial system is a joke.
Truth!
Sadly he covered his tracks really well. Everyone knows he did it
Hugs America's judicial system is a joke to 😢 so tired of husbands getting away with killing their wives 💔
@@mariacherrington61920 we don't have life sentences in Canada. The longest time that someone can "serve" is 25 years. Like what the? So if you kill someone, you are in prison for 25 year and then you're out. This is how stupid our judicial system is.
@@SamanthaCorrie18Same or worse in Australia.
I live in Edmonton Canada and I can tell you that no Canadian would EVER go on a winter road trip without a phone. Never! So the husband saying that is grounds to charge him right there bc that’s suss AF and makes zero sense.
You can't build a murder case on someone not bringing a phone with them.
@@joanna0988 I wasn’t being literal. Obviously that can’t be done but I’m more saying how absolutely absurd it is that he would say that and how it very much points to how suspicious he is.
@@foxxycleopatra615 Ok but BC weather isn't like Edmonton. It's a high of 9 today and we got our first snowfall yesterday that didn't stick for more than a few hours. There's a lot more circumstantial evidence against Iain than this and IHIT dropped the ball on this case so I don't think they'll ever have anything concrete on him unless he confesses.
@@joanna0988 that would be awful. I certainly hope they might be able to get enough circumstantial evidence to get him. But ok, you’re right, BC is way nicer than Edm but, even in BC, would you ever go on a road trip w no one having phones? That makes no sense. Then she ends up in an area he said they went w no phones? He totally did this and his story is crazy.
Lol I don’t know where you live in Bc that the snow didn’t stick but um go back to 2020/2021 winter it was fucked in hope lol

I love seeing Canadian cases as well, as I'm from Ontario Canada 🍁
NB here as well!!!!
I'm so sick of husbands getting away with murder. It seems like the police are keeping things close though, so hopefully that man will be put away for a long time. My heart hurts for Trina and her family.
This case makes me angry, I really think that the police are trying to build an ironclad case doing their best to get justice.
Reminds me of Morphew case
And wives.
Women get away with murder too.
There were rumors that he was friends with LE in the area.
He sold their home in Port Moody and moved to Harrison Mills in 2023
Hopefully the cops are very quietly building a case against him
I’m so beyond thrilled you covered this case! I’m one of the hosts of True North True Crime and this case is near and dear to my heart. I can’t believe it’s coming up on three years and no one has been charged with her murder. Thank you for getting this case out to your massive audience Kendall ❤

As a Port Moody resident, I can tell you that Trina’s disappearance shook our community to its core. You couldn’t walk 3 blocks without seeing her beautiful smiling face on those missing posters & everyone around here was SO hopeful for her safe return. Thank you Kendall, for covering Trina’s case

Thank you as always for covering cases in a meaningful way, sending love and strength to Trina’s family and friends.
Honestly shocked the police began looking for her that very day. The amount of times it's, "well they're an adult. Sure they're out somewhere and will be home soon. There's no sign of foulplay. Call us in a day or two"
Well it is in Canada so maybe things are different there.
Not much different, for the longest time they kept saying not foul play, yet so many of us here had put it together and knew who did what. They missed the boat and probably lost so much evidence. It's very frustrating he is still walking about living his best life, selling her car, house etc.@@petercafrancisca4569
@petercafrancisca4569 As a Canadian, I would love to say all cases are handled this swiftly here, but unfortunately, they often are not. The prompt response likely has a lot to do with the affluent nature of the victim/family.
@@petercafrancisca4569 I'm glad they did not waste time, but I can tell you if she was an indigenous woman, it would have been a totally different story, sadly.
@@MrFredGraveabsolutely!
Sooo, her and her husband go for a drive to the same area where her body was found. Decided to take no phones. Doesn't sound suspicious at all 🙄 then to avoid suspicion, you call police to advise they're missing.
My parents live down the road from her. So happy you covered this case where I grew up! She deserves justice and my thoughts are with her family if you are reading this.
This screamed that the husband did it from the start. Too many coincidences and things like the no phones/ trace on the 16th is too convenient. I still think Ian was either involved or actually did kill her. A total Chris Watts in the waiting. I am so sorry for Trina & her family ❤ Sending them love and support!
i got quite strong Chris Watts vibes from him. Greetings from Austria
He sold their home in Port Moody and moved to Harrison Mills in 2023
I think the most suspicious activity from Iain was moving homes when his wife was still considered missing. This is very strange and completely unlike other responses you see from family of missing people. They are committed to staying at the same address in case their loved one does come home because they want to be there to welcome them home. Very sad case.
💯
I would agree with you if she was a kid and she couldn't find him if he moved, or if he just randomally moved but he moved in with his parents maybe he needed support , or they did he isn't super young I imagine they might need help. Or maybe he didn't want to live in an area people thought he was responsible for his wifes death.
yeah...100% sus
It’s strange that her remains were found near two others; I truly hope each gets justice.
They weren’t found that close to each other, they were just all found in Hope (which is large)
They weren’t found close to each other at all really! One was found in the river, other two in the mountain area which is LARGE
They weren't, she was found outside hope and one was outside Chilliwack (a different city over an hr away) and the other was also in a different town.
My friend works at the dental clinic those two used to go to. She said after Trina went missing the husband didn't seemed bothered at all. We all think her husband had something to do with this.
How does this feel so like Susanne Morphew’s case to me? She is always in my mind as I live in Chaffee county.
Thanks for always bringing these cases the compassion and care they deserve.
Jessica Easterly movie was excellent, you and Josh are awesome people. ❤
Thank you for covering this Kendall! I live 5 minutes from where Trina lived and my brother and I always talk about how sad her case is and how we cannot wait for the day Trina & her family get justice ❤️
A social media detox is one thing. Traveling more than an hour away without throwing a phone in the car for safety is a load of you know what.
Iain is living his best life as a mountain man. He now has long hair/a ponytail and is frequently spotted in the city where his wife's remains were found going on hikes. I really don't have much faith he will ever do time for this. IHIT dropped the ball and BC's unsolved murder rate is 80%. RIP Trina 💜
IHIT didn’t drop the ball, even family say it’s still a very active investigation. The fact of the matter is spousal murder cases are very hard to solve.
@@Taywanee IHIT didn't get involved right away, that's precious time for evidence in the house which to me is dropping the ball. I know what her family is saying but most likely they won't solve this without a confession.
@@joanna0988 there was no reason or evidence for IHIT to get involved right away. And there likely wouldn’t be evidence to find in the home. They both lived there, their DNA would be everywhere. If he murdered her by suffocation or strangulation, there’d be nothing to find 🤷🏻♀️
How are they going to solve it if her husband took her out to that area and murdered her? unless he left evidence which there probably is none
@@joanna0988 especially when someone is the ceo of a company that supplies cleaning products!
One of her billboards was right across from my bus stop, so I got very familiar with Trina and her case. I hope that one day she will have justice. Thank you for covering a Canadian case.
Was there life insurance? What other possible motive? What was she involved with after retirement? Did the husband have financial problems? So many questions.
Men suck is just the motive some time. People like this just want a way out and feel this is a logical decision somehow?
It was rumoured he was having an affair. Usually the motive around these types of murders is not wanting a divorce and having to split assets. After she died, he sold the house and pocketed the money.
Knew her and no one can convince me otherwise that ian isn’t guilty. Literally a POS
I always wonder these things too! I’m guessing Kendall would’ve brought it up in the vid if there was a financial or other obvious motive… Prolly an affair, and he didn’t want to split all the retirement & assets, so he can be with his new bae and pocket all the money for them to start a new life🤷♀️
He went on a trip with her, came home without her and reported her missing days later. How can the police not make the dots match?? Our justice system in BC is so messed up.

Thank you for bringing attention to this case. It hits close to home, my inlaws live in the town where she was discovered. Ian's story NEVER made sense. I hope there is justice for Trina.
In my theory, she didn't come back from that gateway and more reason why her husband didn't set up the alarm system because she is not in the house in order to set the alarm system with purpose that she is sleeping in the bed. He planned all that to stage her disappearance. They should treat this case as a homicide

This trip with Ian and Trina during January is super suspicious. A highway near Hope BC had such bad rainfall in November of 2021 that the highway was washed out and damaged in 15 places. They didn't travel that highway, and this was in January, but still, that seems like a good reminder that the mountain highways are extremely dangerous. If they had kept traveling in the same direction past Hope, the next highway they would have traveled in would have been the washed out one. It's called The Coquihalla, or colloquially, the highway of tears. It's known as one of the most dangerous highways in Canada. EDIT: I was mistaken that The Coquihalla is not the highway of tears in Canada, but it still is famously one of the most dangerous roads, and is right on the other side of Hope.
This is not the Highway of Tears. Highway 16 is. It is way North of this corridor.
I was jumping in to say that as well. The Coquihalla is the bit of highway over the mountain pass built ages ago to avoid the, now long, way through Hope. (Who else remembers the toll?) The Highway of Tears is the Yellowhead (Hwy 16) heading north in BC (it also runs into Alberta). It’s named that for the many (mostly Indigenous) women who have gone missing since 1969.
Happy new year! Hope you had a wonderful holiday with your family❤ Looking forward to another year of you bringing awareness to more cases.
Thank you for covering this. There was a few disappearances across B.C. at this time. Everyone was on edge. Trina and Shaelene’s bodies eventually found but still did not bring our communities any peace. I hope they both get justice.
The police came out and said Shaelene committed suicide. She was never murdered
Ever since the day Trina went missing I have been invested in what happened to her. Watching it all unfold, from a few days and hoping she would be found to the horrible reality of what happened … She was clearly such a lovely lady & it’s one of those things where you wish you could go back in time to do something. My heart goes to her family & friends 💜 Side Note: iain looks nothing like how he did at the time of her murder - he has grown out a beard & is almost unrecognizable. He also removed all of the pictures/flowers/signs that were placed at their once shared home. - the community fought back by placing more 💜 He dated a woman shortly after & was spotted with her in Harrison Hot Springs. (All heresay) People have gone up to him & recorded him, confronting him about it & he stares silently and walks away. He’s creepy as heck. Joined an off-roading group for 4Runner drivers & moved out to Agassiz, BC (not far from Hope), much to the horror of his new neighbors. He’s a disgusting monster & I can’t wait for the day that we see the headline that he’s been arrested & charged.
There’s a sign for Trina right outside of my home so I see her kind, warm smile everyday. I wish her peace and peace for her loved ones as well 😔
He sold their home in Port Moody and moved to Harrison Mills in 2023
