Unfortunately mate people in this country have made there bed with it and are willing accept these disgusting shouts as "banter" when in reality it's nothing but abuse.
Most liverpool fans don't want to engage in that type of abusive banter anymore, hence why we would like it too stop, not hard too understand but the rest of the country don't care.

I 100% agree with every word this guy says as a scouser myself plus let’s not forget when they said we would have to sell the sun newspaper if we wanted to host England games at Anfield or Goodison so we just declined to host any games
Was we would have to allow their journalists into the ground when England games where on. It was either let them in when England games are on, or dont host england games. Anfield no longer hosts england games
One more reasons why England would never win a World Cup again, because the people are not behind the English Team, they prefer their local Clubs, something you would never see in other countries like Brazil and others.
What rubbish. My wife's family are all Scousers (50% Liverpool fc and 50% Everton) and they all support England 100%.
Don't understand this thought process at all. Since when did the England team represent the government? I'm a Leeds fan, from a part of the world hit heavy by Thatcher's policies but I still support my fellow countrymen. It's not like the England team has Boris Johnson as a CF chanting anti-Liverpool sentiment! Also you say you don't feel respected by other English clubs that come to Anfield and chant nasty things, but that's football mate! We hear "We all hate Leeds scum" on a bi-weekly basis but you don't take it to heart. Do you also not support English athletes in the Olympics? Are they Thatcherites and hardline Tories because they choose to represent their country and work hard to get a gold medal? I think you'll find most athletes (footballers included) care very little for politics.
There is no thought process to understand. It’s the typical scouser who thinks they’re special or different.

There’s another issue a lot of people aren’t aware of. During the 1966 World Cup, England were due to play their semi final at goodison park and a lot of locals were excited to attend and see the england team. They decided to change it so they would play at Wembley instead. Since then, a lot of older scousers just can’t be arsed with supporting england, issues like hillsborough and thatcher or at least the false perception the rest of england have of them “not being as bad as we make out” just made it worse.
But Hillsborough was also caused by scousers how the fuck can you be ignorant of blame when it was scousers that surged through the gates
Yes but more to do with how we’ve been treated. But let’s honest, look at the woman’s euros win. It’s only celebrated in the capital. We don’t follow England as Liverpool is our love and our only love. City and club.

I'm Scouse but honestly mate, the whole "managed decline" thing was an idea brought up in Cabinet by a random minister and Thatcher shot it down. I hate the witch, but she thought it was absolutely disgusting to even consider winding down the second city of the Empire. She then sent Heseltine to the city with a brief to regenerate it (and he did a decent job).
Most areas didn’t get a managed decline…
Heseltines family had business interests in Liverpool they all lived on the wirral
💯👏
Ofc she’s going to shoot that down, it’s within her own interest to disassociate from that sorta stuff publicly, but it happened, and it happened to so many northern towns and cities who similarly were labour supporting. That lack of funding post industry in places like Liverpool and Grimsby (were I’m from) is so clear. After our fishing docks were shut down my town went from having the biggest fishing docks in Europe with thriving industry to a genuine shithole after thousands were left jobless and its still like that too this day with absolutely no funding from the government and no opportunities for the people here. The only town of note where it didn’t happen that u van think of in the north would be Salford with all the media city stuff and the bbc. You can say that she publicly shut it down but it 100% happened behind closed doors

You don't understand then
Being from Liverpool, I can completely understand why he’s saying this and where it comes from. I do have a slight reservation though. When we say that we don’t feel English, that doesn’t mean that we don’t like or don’t get along with people on an individual level from all over the country. If we get along, we’re probably going to be friends for life. It’s that simple. We just don’t feel part of England as a country. For me personally, I’m northern at best, and I definitely don’t want us to alienate ourselves from the north as a whole. I resonate with my own people and I resonate with other northerners and the north as an identity and the experiences that all of us have gone through when it comes to the divide with the south, particularly Westminster. But when people say continuously that they don’t like scousers, we’re this and we’re that, we’re robbers and scumbags, what do you think is going to happen? How do you think we’re going to respond? And if that’s the case, find me another impoverished city in the world where people didn’t steal to make money or to survive. Would you rather we starved quietly in a corner? We were left to rot. The only reason our city centre looks the way it does now is because of the funding we received for being the capital of culture. It wasn’t Tory money, it wasn’t even Labour money. And we know for a fact that Liverpool wouldn’t have had a chance if it weren’t for that. And then everyone wants to scratch their heads on why scousers, why northerners in general, feel a certain way towards their own country. It actually baffles me when people say we act like victims whilst conveniently forgetting the slander we get, whether it’s our class, our accents, our history, our political history. It’s full on mass gaslighting.
@Lee Join your local college - they’ll have great English courses for you. Good luck.
@Lee 😂
I agree with 99% with what you have written except that our city looks so good now because of capital of culture. It looks so good because we were granted grade 1 status by the EU and that resulted in massive regeneration which, in turn helped our capital of culture bid. You are right about it not being funded by central Government though - AS IF.
Well articulated and I fully agree. One of the strange irony’s of leaving the EU is Liverpool’s docks may well re-open.
The decline of our port coincided with the UK’s integration with the EU. The city has always had it’s back to the country but facing the world, while Liverpool voted to remain; a consequence of leaving is we might see a renaissance of trade once again.
@@jackfoulkes2047 Liverpool was the Second City of the Empire, then when the nation went into decline and became all about globalism and socialism, Liverpool was just the biggest bit of muck on the shovel to sling off first.
The way things have gone, Liverpool has become utterly politically captured by Labour and left-wing fantasists, I detest the principle of "managed decline" as tantamount to treason, but at this point, the rhetoric behind Thatcher's often overlooked unquestionable dark side ideas, have become a self profiling prophesy.
In the same way it was inexcusable to purposely destroy Liverpool as a city for purely political and ideological reasons, it's inexcusable the pure hysterics and to the embarrassing degree that Liverpool has become politically a rabid left-wing dead-end.
Actually creating our own party, The Scouse Party, isn't a bad idea, yes it'll never win, obviously it'll only get elected in Liverpool, but isn't that the point of democracy? Represent those who vote for you, get rid of Labour and Conservatives, actually let people be represented, and allow some free, not so, common sense trickle down the whole country, and let the real share values and beliefs of the UK shine through. Democracies are supposed to be run by the people, not politicians.
Liverpool fans I can't stand them. Nothing is ever their fault, everybody picks on them!!!! They are like spoilt 10 year-olds who can't get there on way. Don't worry most of England would happily like the city of liverpool to be made a part of Wales or break off England then float into the Irish sea.
Born and bred scouser and I've never agreed with this attitude. I think it's insular, and pretending we are somehow seperate does nothing for the city.
Generations of politicians have come through the city pushing the idea of 'Scouse, not English' and you know what it's never done any good for any one. In fact they've done a lot of damage to the city while beating this drum. Anti-tory and harking on about the 80s doesn't make an iota of difference to the lives of people in this city, who've endured decades of corruption and mismanagement.
Liverpool needs to be outward looking and not navel-gaze or allow the past to dictate its future. The 1980s were over 30 years ago, I was there, I remember it and I refuse to have a chip on my shoulder over it. With respect many people you hear bang on about it weren't even alive at the time. Generations of inherited grievance won't make the city any richer, any safer, any better than it is, it's just the same old, same old.
But hey, scouse, not English, so everything's absolutely sound now.
Smart man.
The government analysis is spot on, very well articulated

My great grandparents were from Ireland. I consider my English and not at all Irish. I’m from The Wirral not Liverpool so I’m not a scouser. I do find scousers who are too proud of being scousers to be very tedious but most people on Merseyside are nice.
I'm from Liverpool and I've never heard so much bollocks in my life. Liverpool was in decline from the late 60s because the unions that ran the docks didn't want to adapt the docks to be able to take container ships as it would mean losing jobs - try handballing a container off a ship with men rather than a crane, not happening. So over the 70's, Liverpools docks fell in to decline as cargo went to other ports mainly down in the South East of England. As with coal mines, Thatcher was seen as the "final nail in the coffin" pretty much for the docks in Liverpool. She still closed a lot less coal mines than Labour did in the 70's, but that's never talked about is it. In reality, it was the unions that didn't want to lose their workers jobs and move with the times that saw the end to the docks in Liverpool. It's also why it's only recently that the docks have been refurbished to be able to take the bigger container boats and the big red cranes have been installed to be able to take off the containers. Most of this information is available from the Museum of Liverpool down by the Pier Head... regardless of if you want to accept it or not.
I'd sacrifice Manchester United winning cups for the next 10 years if it meant England would win a World Cup or Euros. I'd take England winning a corner (leading to a crucial goal) than Manchester United winning a trophy that season.
I want Man Utd to do well, but England is so much more important and always will be.
completely opposite to me, I really want England to do well but id much rather Manchester United won the champions league or premier league than the world cup or euros, idk why probably cus I'm so attached to united and for me it would feel more special. However if England won world cup I would love it because everybody in this country would be celebrating and it would be a great vibe around the place.
@@utdspiritf1virk758 that's totally fair mate! I get that completely. They should have buried Italy in the final and this angers me even now. That was 40 years ago.. they need to get over it.
I’m a Londoner, Irish background. One of my Irish grandads served in the navy and both my Irish nans loved the queen. Not anti British at all. It’s been passed down to us. I get the Scouse thing, I get why they don’t feel British. It’s a shame how they were treated in the past because it’s an amazing city with amazing people.
Makes me laugh when Scousers, Geordies and Scots bang on about being ignored by that state and all that. That’s been the whole of Wales for, well forever.
You should do something about it then! We all should! Liverpool has been so politically complacent and idle despite the way we’ve been treated. Literally we just vote Labour and hope for the best even though they’re a bunch of shysters as well. I don’t see how Welsh nationalism hasn’t taken off as much as Scottish nationalism has given the Welsh have historically (and contemporarily) been treated much worse (and Liverpool have played a role in that, i.e Capel Celyn) If Liverpool had any background as its own nation I’d want to break away so hard we’d become an island hahahah. The union is fucked whatever happens and its well deserved.
So you can't complain about being treated unfairly because someone else is also being treated unfairly? Gotcha
And....you support whoever England is playing. What's your point?

Literally zero passion here for international footy lad. Got that passion from seeing yous lose quite frankly and that’s always a given. And you know Jurgen Klopp.
He supports Liverpool. He's watching his team compete and sometimes win in the Champions League and compete for the Prem and stuff, how could he possibly get the same buzz watching England inevitably crash out of a tournament after watching then grind out 1-0 wins and moody corners for a tournament? The Liverpool fans I know do watch England but they'd rather it wasn't on because they're worried about their players getting injured in a tournament they will never win and its the same with the United, Chelsea and City fans I know
as some one whos lived in liverpool from a young age (18 now), this city has a lot of socialist views and ive meet a couple of handfulls of people who actually say that they are communists and thats just one of the reasons that i dont like living here as i dont have them views. when corban was in the pitcher most people was voteing for him beacuse of the sole reason that he wasnt a tory. corban once said "lets give all terrorists a second chance" which is completely dumb af.
I'm a big fan of the city of Liverpool. I'm not a scouser, but my Father is and his ancestors as far as we can go back. I'm 61 and have visited the city often since being a baby and spending a lot of holidays at my Grandma's. I still have family there.
What happened over Hillsborough was horrendous and I wept for those people who lost their lives and their friends and families. I get why Scousers hate South Yorkshire Police, the press who misreported the tragedy, and even the government. It must be pointed out that John Williams of the Liverpool Daily Post also reported that Liverpool fans were to blame though.
However, since Hillsborough and since Margaret Thatcher, the City has received millions of pounds worth of government investment particularly during it's year as City of Culture. I think the city is massively improved. Scousers may or may not agree. I speak as a visitor with a great affection for the City. It has attracted many more visitors than it ever did before the investment, albeit if has always been an important and wonderful city.
What I don't understand is why Liverpool fans wouldn't support the England team, which is neither a London team or politically affiliated (even if the capital represented the government, which it doesn't). Neither do I understand why the fans boo the national anthem which is not a political anthem. I find it sad, that's all.
With respect despite your affection for Liverpool you won’t understand because you’re not from the city.
You're spot on. I don't.

Love the scousers, great city and great people however… Jesus Christ do you guys love to think that you are only ones in the country that bad stuff has happened too. Thatcher devastated the whole of the north not just you, in fact a lot of places ended way worse than Liverpool, then you go on about anti scouse songs. Literally every city/football team has mean songs about them, you don’t see people from Norwich saying they ain’t English even though the rest of the country calls them inbred.
I think that is what annoys most people from outside Liverpool.
Exactly, Liverpool was not the only place Thatcher tried to destroy... She did it all over the country
He's speaking about Liverpool. Not the north. He's giving his own opinion
Exactly, so why aren’t other areas taking action themselves?
When we Scousers talk about the stuff that Thatcher did to our city, never are we claiming we're the only ones it happened to or invalidating other northern cities' terrible time in that period. I mean, are we the only city who have letter proving it was all deliberate? As far as I know, yes. Obviously we've also had Hillsborough, and Liverpool with its strong Irish and Welsh identies has even less reason to like London and Westminster.
Now, does that mean we think we're the only ones the government fucked when we complain about it? No.
If Geordies want to fly banners saying Geordie not English I think all you'd hear is applause on Merseyside. In fact, I think any Northern city that got fucked by Thatcher will find more sympathy in Liverpool than in almost any other city, because we get it. We went through the same.
Now, you as a city can react to the historical oppression however you want. If you want to forgive and move on and try to strengthen the Union, that's fine by us. You wanna voice your pain, help the government understand the extent of what it did? You do it, and we'll be right here next to you with raised fists.
Just because we complain about what happened to us doesn't mean we don't know, understand or discredit what happened to other cities and peoples. Criticising Scousers for bringing up our pained past is textbook whataboutism, and there's simply no need.

This guy doesn't speak for all "scousers", he speaks for himself and his own circle of friends. In the same way as I speak for myself and MY circle of friends and family. So here's a balanced argument from another "scouser". Me and my family/friends are not stuck in the past like people like Adam Rowe, who - for some reason - like to hold on to the past and hold grudges that have no logical place in today's UK. He might say "most of the people I know" when talking about his opinions, but in the same vein most of the people I know do not think like that.
Just go out into Liverpool when there's an England match on TV and see how absolutely packed the pubs are, people having BBQs on match days, absolutely losing our shit when England score, and get totally bummed out when England get knocked out.
"Scouse not English" is an awful mantra, devisive and self harming by those who live by it, playing the victim is much easier than actually getting of your arse and doing something about it, blaming "the others" for your own percieved place in the gutter of the UK. In my 40 years on this planet, I've only really come across a very few people that feel like this.
But hey, this is just my opinion on the matter and I don't have a platform like Adam to spread my opinion, so choose to believe me or not, it's fine.
Bro Thatcherism and the closing of the mines was a lot worse in the north east doesn’t stop us from supporting our country tho. I’m pretty sure he mentions Newcastle but it’s not the same up here, we still love our country; it’s all the same. WE ARE ENGLISH

Laying down as the establishment in your country walks all over you is not a virtue.
Standing up for yourselves, is.
Adam Rowe leaves out a VERY important issue as to WHY scousers reacted the way they did to Thatcher's 'managed decline' remarks. Apart from the obvious, 'FU' to the Government, Liverpool kept the country going during WW2 through the Liverpool docks being the main port that imported and exported goods to and from the USA, during the Battle of the Atlantic. The docks were bombed as badly as London was during the blitz, I have family members who remember how badly it was hit and I have heard of many people who were killed during the bombing raids in Liverpool. It was a main target for the Germans, for those obvious reasons. During the 70s and 80's successive governments put Liverpool Docks into managed decline as industry was on the wane. Thatcher changed the countries main sources of income from industrial to financial, as the country was on its knees financially due to failing industries. Liverpool's main source of income to the city, the docks, were more or less fully closed leading to huge job losses and unemployment.
It was for these reasons that the people of Liverpool who gave so much for the country felt forgotten about when we needed the help of the country the most. Liverpool dockers, which at the time was a largely generational vocation, whos many workers fathers and grandfathers would have worked at the docks during the war, would have felt this as a personal insult and taken serious offence.
We even became the joke of the country, through the national media. 'Feed the Scousers', Thieves', 'Bin Dippers' all regular tropes heard from people around the country regarding the people of Liverpool, originate from this time. They will not forget, not when such taunts still persist to this day. Liverpool people are proud people, welcoming people, stubborn people, and loving poeple. Make a friend with a scouser, and you'll have a friend for life.
Our forefathers broke their backs to keep this county going... and for what!? So we can be insulted, even to this very day?
Thatcher didnt write any letter about managed decline, it was Geoffrey Howe, who also suggested it about several other inner cities. Thatcher appointed Heseltine to regenerate the City centre, see the Albert Dock? Tory initiative. Managed decline didnt happen. The Docks were in decline long before Thatcher came to power for reasons outside anyones control. If you want to talk to me about how Thatchers policies contributed towards the decline of the rest of the industrial north I will agree with you but Liverpool was not singled out above anywhere else.
I’d rather my club win the league cup than England win World Cup
Club > Country
Wow you have some balls 😳
Sad person
We have Thatcher down south as well, still consider ourselves English though
Hate thatcher *
His thatcher quote is wrong it was Geoffrey Howe who came up with it, he said putting money into Liverpool would be a waste, like trying to push water up a hill. Thatcher sent Heseltine in to see what could be done. One quote was " Liverpool would be a hard nut to crack" and they were right in that respect, they still haven't cracked us.
He used the phrase in a government document and Thatcher told him off for doing so. It is likely something they have said in private conversations and she didnt want that on record.
Facts don't matter to people who run on emotion
"I cannot help feeling that the option of managed decline is one which we should not forget altogether. We must not expend all our limited resources in trying to make water flow uphill."
She said she’d be happy if Liverpool would just float away into the Irish Sea. P.S. Howe is totally misguided. By sending a city into managed decline is precisely how you create a cesspit of savages.
Whilst i like Liverpool's attitude and togetherness. I do think they go OTT with a lot of it. Im a geordie and love Liverpool think its a top city and i have a few mates there who are brilliant lads. So i dont like some of the scouse attitude as in we cant stand the English Etc , when i have the opposite view to them as i think Liverpool is great.
People who sing the sign on and feed the scousers chants at the match are just little divvies uneducated and trying to get a rise out of them. Its not a whole nation or area , like I've seen scousers tar all Geordies with those sniffed up minority young lads at away games who sing it. When it couldn't be further from the truth. I reckon those that sing the shite chants are just doing it to get a reaction and they obviously do.
Newcastle as a city and the north east in general has been massively fucked over like Liverpool by the tories aswell and i think regardless what scousers think we should be standing side by side with them.
I do think the Hillsborough disaster and how the ridiculous false stories made up by the S** paper also the cover up by the shithouse yorkshire police has made Liverpools hatred still to this day to what happened by the tories different to the rest of the northern towns and cities on how they view things on a day to day basis. As in its a daily thing the hatred, whilst we hate tories its just not in ya face as much up here, its definitely culturally embedded the hatred in Liverpool for them which is sound, where up here in Newcastle we vote labour still but what the tories done in the 80s its not in daily conversations up here.
