- We are excited to announce our partnership with @secondlife. Second Life pioneered Virtual Worlds 20 years ago and is pioneering the use of AI NPCs within such a Virtual World. It is a pleasure working with them and bringing conversational and perceptual characters into this world.

According to Brad Oberwager, Exec Chair of Linden Lab, "these AI characters can not only ease the learning curve for new users by providing necessary information, but also help entertain and engage them by giving them a tour of the virtual world, carrying out different actions based on conversation, and connecting them with other players and characters."

The bots absolutely _need_ to be absolutely clear to users that they are AI. So that users don't think they're talking to another human. Most of these 'characters' aren't very clear that they're AI other than you telling us in this video through narration. Most of them just look like random users, and that can be deceptive.

I get the intention but these need to be clearly announced as bots in their names. Also I don't see why they need to be able to follow users etc, they can definitely be used to give help but there isn't a need for 'companions' etc.

Absolutely a horrible introduction and would turn me off to SL. You join SL for ACTUAL interaction not a bot existence. You may as well make SL a single player game and not social. Also this will be programmed to funnel activity to a SL or Convai sponsored area, draw away from other places and further add to the decline of actual log ins and interaction. Does SL or Convai care? Not one bit. I guarantee if asked 90% of SL would reject this as a good thing and the other are 10% SL sheep yes men.
Please allow sims and users to block and ban these things.
Secondlife Resident players are already experiencing tons of bots. Have AI avatars will be too much. We dont need them in the HUB confusing people thinking they are interacting real people when its actually AI. Not good at all
My SL hasn't looked this bad since 2007.
