Your candor is always appreciated, Lindsay. I particularly appreciate how, rather than just judging products to be good or bad, you think through what the best use of a product would be and how what might be shortcomings in one area could be strengths in another. You have an unusually wide experience with art, crafts, teaching, and evaluating products, so you bring insights few others have. You deserve a raise!
Thank you for reviewing the Artify paints. I bought this set almost a year ago in the 24 pan size. I use it as my urban sketching pallete. The pallete was the main reason I bought the set. I simply love it. There is plenty of space for mixing, the paint doesn't bead on the plastic, and the weight of the palette is much less than a similar sized metal one would be. I toss this set into my art bag to paint on location and it is going strong without a crack in the plastic or any yellowing. I admit that I had no expectations for the paint when I purchased it, but since the pans pop out, I knew that I could change the paints easily if I choose to. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the student grade paint. True, there has been some cracking, but otherwise I've been very happy with the Artify set. Thanks to your review, I now realize that it is a Superior/Art Whale paint set, which is great to know. I am glad you decided to add this set to your arsenal of reviews. The brushes look fantastic too. Thanks for all you do. :) Your reviews have helped me learn the landscape of what is available to a somewhat new watercolorist.
Love your reviews and side comparisons. I also appreciate you sharing her favorites for those on a budget and also your favorite of the more expensive. Again thank you.
Thank you so much for this helpful review! I ordered one of your classes a while ago and haven't tried it yet so now I'll have a set to use for it. I'm 60 and on my "bucket list" is learning more about watercolor painting. I've dabbled a little in it in school and took a brief class at a family camp, and I think I have some talent after trying it but don't really know enough about it. Last night I ordered some Arteza metallic paints, watercolor paper, and some brushes as a gift for an adolescent girl in our family and I spent way too long trying to pick out some brushes since reviews were all over the place and a lot of them weren't that great(ferrule fell off, brushes shed a lot, etc.) I finally found one that wasn't that expensive but I never came across these! So I'm getting this bundle for myself to get the brushes and have a decent paint set for your course and for the water coloring I want to do for card making. They won't be here by Christmas, but that's fine because having fun with my watercolors is something I can do over the holidays.
The day I found out that there were different brushes for different mediums was a turning point for me. It may seem like a no brainer but it’s not easy to tell by just looking!
This was my first watercolor set, the 24 one at least, and honestly, they're pretty damn nice. They're vibrant and mix very well. I don't need artist quality for painting for fun in my sketchbooks. I'm glad I didn't get the 48 because I can practice mixing colors! The 48 looks very samey in color choices, so I'm even more glad I didn't buy it now. 😅
The Superior watercolors, sold under a hundred different names. I got these and mine were labeled Superior. But no matter what name you buy them as, you always get that color chart with the same spelling errors. Good paints though, I was super impressed with them when I tried them. I originally just wanted the palette because I figured it would be really handy for painting outside, and I thought I would eventually find some use for the paints which I did not expect much of. But man was I wrong, the paints are great! I don't think they feel like our traditional western watercolors, they kind of remind me of a cross between our watercolors and gansai, and I totally love that. Out of the cheap paint sets that I have tried, this is the one that I would most definitely purchase again. And as for the similar colors, I noticed that, too, and I actually like it. It's like buying a set of watercolors and having the replacement colors come along with it. I think the two pinks and the lavender color in this set are really useless, but as for anything else it's wonderful, I paid 19 Euros for this set with two pretty decent watertank brushes, and I think that this was one of the best watercolor deals that I have gotten my hands on this far. Wouldn't use them for more traditional stuff or anything that will go out as an original, but as for fun and sketches, yes, absolutely wonderful. And call my crazy, but to date I am convinved that a famous British artist who has released his own watercolor palette is also actually selling these paints.
Thanks Lindsay. Always appreciate your reviews. I like the brushes but I've been waiting for the Mimik kolinsky travel set to go on a good sale for a year and they finally did today and I quick got them for my Christmas to me present. 30 dollars lower than all year. Woohoo! 😉😁💜

I purchased the 24 set years ago for the palette. But I liked the paints so much..I used them. I have also gifted them several times. The palette is very good quality. The 24 set is a perfect size palette.
Lindsay Weirich my first thought when you showed the lavender that you did not care for was a dusky hydrangea bush, full and heavy with the scent of spring and summer. Really was the first thought that popped in my head.
Yes! these are Superior paints I have the exact same set branded as Magicfly! The set sold at Ali express with brand Superior has the same color names, number system and looks identical (packaging and paint layout). I actually commented about it yesterday coincidentally :)
22:19 I was just sketching out a lavender superbloom last night with a similar deep aubergine, medium violet, and pastel to top it, that was with markers though. I feel like the whole point with watercolor is to mix them to go with the mood of the piece
Regarding the Cat's tongue. I bought a Princeton dagger brush off Amazon. The end was really long, looked irregular so I thought, I know! I'll snip it! Never do that. Never, ha-ha. Thanks for the entertaining review.
I have a mini Christmas money haul coming, including a set of these brushes. I don’t *need* anymore brushes but I really wanted the cats tongue and they were cheap. The rest of my haul is a 24 Pure Pigment set, a Mijello bulletproof palette, DS Burnt Sienna, and MG Paynes Grey. Kristina Werner has the Mijello palette and I love it every time I see her use it. I have MG burnt sienna in my palette now and I’m anxious to see the difference in hue, mixes, and granulation. I’ll be using the Paynes Grey as a neutral tint or for mixing darks when I don’t want granulation. I assume you have the MG Paynes Grey, how do you like it?
Thanks for the info. I just purchased the brushes. Cant wait to try them out. I would have gotten the paint as well but,I have enough watercolor paint to last this lifetime and half of another. Lol
Hi Lindsay, Can you recommend us some affordable good quality water color brush set like you reviewed and ranked your student grade watercolors? It will be better if you give a video of comparing all of your watercolor brush sets that are affordable and still work for people who are starting to learn watercolor. Princeton brushes cost 10 to 15 dollars per brush, so thinking about buying an affordable assorted set at least for now.

Hey Lindsay, Merry Christmas. I’d love to get your opinion of which is better between White Nights and Pretty Excellent watercolours… I’m trying to decide which to buy for myself for Christmas. Also, I love these reviews, they are so informative.
I'd say white nights because they have pigment info and lightfast ratings and a larger range if color. The pans are better than tubes. In use tho I think they'd be similar.
@@thefrugalcrafter thanks so much, I really appreciate your opinion. Both are similarly priced in Australia so getting the set with the pigment info will be very useful.

Hi Lindsay, another great video👍. Between the zen art black tulip brushes and these artify ones which would you recommend? I'm in the uk and can get both on amazon.
Hello, my question is off-topic & not sure which platform is best to ask you on. I ordered some Qor medium (synthetic oxgall). I’m curious on how adding a drop to my mixing palette will change how a watercolor color behaves. Have you tried this before or any other mediums?
I purchased the Art Whale Pan Set because the tubes were sold out. I mistakenly thought they would perform like the tube paints. I watched Kimberly Crick’s review and thought I would be better off just keeping the cute tin . I purchased the Phoenix set after watching your review and discovered they are the same as Cotman Watercolors. I am new to watercolor. Will I get frustrated with the Art Whale pans? Should I hang onto them. Am I stressing too much ? Since I know nothing , I have come to the conclusion that I will never purchase watercolors until I have watched a review from you. I had no idea the same paints as well as many colored pencils are sold under different brand names. Your reviews have prevented more buyer’s remorse.
@@thefrugalcrafter - Thank you. I probably am making a mountain out of a molehill. I will just use the Art Whale and enjoy them. I got them while they were $25 so the 48 colors are a bargain and I don’t have to worry that I am wasting them like I would if I was using expensive paints.

QUESTION: Do you feel that these brushes perform better then the Mimik High Performance Synthetic Squirrel Hair Watercolor Brushes or about the same? How to you feel they feel painting in comparison to the Mimik?
I ordered the paint brushes and they came today. While I think the bristles were good, I am disappointed with the quality assurance. I took the brushes out of the package and right away found three defective brushes. I had to glue two ferrules back onto their handles. The third one had to be crimped because it was really loose. When you order your brushes shake them to check the ferrules. Not s good start for right out of the package purchase.
I know you seem to like the Art Whale paints, but I was shocked by how chalky and opaque the Art Whale swatch card looked compared to the Artify swatch.
I bought those brushes a few weeks ago based on your earlier rec, and am sadly disappointed. Of the 12 brushes, 10 have really loose ferrules. They rattle like crazy. I’ve let a couple sit in water a bit just to get the wood to swell up. :(
Just wanted to update my comment, I ran all the brushes under water and got them wet - not soaking, but ran water into the ferrules, then left them to dry. They tightened up just fine, only one is still a little loose, and I expect it will be fine after a few dips in the wash jar. They do paint really nicely for an inexpensive brush, I was surprised by how little they “dumped “ paint when painting leaves or petals.

I like how your rushing these reviews out for the holiday season, I do not mean to say your rushing your videos, but they are coming fast and furious! I like watching your videos even if I am not going to buy any of these paints as I am a DaVinci Watercolor convert and a zealous one at that! I can honestly recommend their Earth Friendly watercolor palette to EVERYONE! No I am not a shill or affiliated, just a real fan of DaVinci paints. I have been painting with watercolors for many years and I have tried just about every brand. I even bought Dan Smith and thought they were very nice paints, but my customer service experience was Horrible and their recent company policies of lies and intimidation has put me off of them forever! Well I am sure I could go on and on but people don't care about my opinion but yours! Thanks for the review and I liked the painting you did with these paints too! Perhaps that could be featured in the review video more, to show actual real world experience? Please take care, be safe and enjoy your Holiday's!
@@thefrugalcrafter yes, I saw it first, I was just commenting about it being more work to separate it into another video, but maybe that is better for you and your channel? I just don’t get much from swatches these days, sometimes how transparent or opaque a paint is but on video the camera settings are so tricky, I believe I understand a supply better seeing it in use. Thanks for the great review. I occasionally teach a class and the cost of materials, even how I do it (no more than six tubes of basic colors, good paper and one good brush) still runs pretty costly for some students. These look just fine for a class and students ca then spend the money on good paper, which is NON-NEGOTIABLE if you want to paint with ease.
You should check out camel paints. They’re India’s dupe for W&N. Though there’s no pigment info, artists have extensively tested the lightfastness, and they’re only about $8-$10 for 24 colors, or you can get larger bottles in mixing paint colors for the same price.
I used to but the 37ml tubes if Davinci paunts for classes. They are artist grade so a little goes a long way. They used to sell a 6 tube mixing set of the large tubes. It was great!

Oh shoot! That didn't last long. Thanks for letting me know.
I have a tutorial on the landscape on my channel already:)
@@thefrugalcrafter yes, I saw it first, I was just commenting about it being more work to separate it into another video, but maybe that is better for you and your channel? I like to see real world uses of supplies in reviews, if you get more mileage with 2 videos and you enjoy creating them, PLEASE do what is best for you and your channel! I just don’t get much from swatches these days, sometimes how transparent or opaque a paint is but on video the camera settings are so tricky, I believe I understand a supply better seeing it in use. I think you are a wonderful instructor and you create wonderful videos that everyone can enjoy. Please take care, be safe and enjoy the Holidays!
Can you refill them?
Sure, buy a tube of paint and fill the pans when you run out. I'd take a swatch of the color to the store for matching.
Cool
The pallet is designed a lot like a Koi watercolor pallet.
Yup
Love them 💕 the schpirerr farben pallet is the same as that one I was painting from it at the time so thanks for showing me how you are supposed to hook up that mixing plate that way dddddaaaaa me thats why I love the demos of the toys for people to express themselves with .thank u 💓
Good to know!
