Love this, Ive been an instructor for many years, this is sooooooo important, wish every single new instructor should have to understand the music before they pass any certification. Thank you 🙏🏻
Recently joined a new gym. Two of the group instructors frequently get off of the beat of the music (they rush it). I’m a former dancer and long ago band geek, so my sense of rhythm is on point. It is so awkward and physically uncomfortable to be “off” in class because the movement is rushed and does not flow with the beat. Should I respectfully speak to these ladies? I don’t think they realize that they are falling off beat in their classes. I live in an area with many people who also have no sense of rhythm, so I may be the only person in class who is disturbed by it.
I just saw your 32 count information. I' so need help to instruct my defense class at the recreation center. I'm new to teaching a group exercise class. Just over a year but I lose tempo don't cue as well as I need for the class success. I'm over 60 teaching 50+ ladies kickboxing but I get lost in trying to 8 count, give direction, etc. Can you give me tips. I hope you can help me to help my few students. thanks much
Am a bodystep Step instructor but I got my certificate on line I have zero knowledge of working on the beat When never I make a demo class I fail because am not following the beat Can any one advise how to improve that Or what to study What courses teach that?
I subscribed and now watching your videos. I currently teach Zumba, and also just started teaching group fitness classes at la fitness. I understand what you are meaning by learning the 32 count. But I need to learn how to use it. I have 2 CDs that I have been listening to in my car (like you said) but the task is daunting wig the cues and getting on the beat. I mess up. My students are frustrated with me 😔 help! Zumba is a totally different story, it goes by the verses, and chorus. I have that down pat. But group rx is a whole new ball game.
Don't worry about mistakes... mistakes are opportunities. I make mistakes every time I teach. Zumba can be different becasue the music sometimes is not on the 32 count - it has the latin roots and sometimes that music is a 6 count, if that makes sense. But keep going. The more you listen to it and teach it - the more natural it becomes. Feel free to email me, kjmeuer@gmail.com any time - happy to help :)
Wow! Your videos are so great and I’m getting so many answers to my questions. I teach rhythm cycle and I’d love to email you with a couple questions about counting music. Is that possible?
