Thank you for your interest, I will try to make a video on my improvements (there are several) in one of my next episodes. Until then - have fun! I would be grateful, if you can activate some of your friends to watch my videos too :-) Regards from Norway
Thank you Dieter for another informative episode. I’m not convinced the ferry master had right of way being on your port side and Whitehorse abaft his beam. The lines on the charts are informative only indicating routes, however I’m not sure what local rules are in-force for Oban harbour. Either way discretion is the best course of action given the size disparity. Take care.
From the Oban harbour website: "In order to reduce the risks of incidents between large commercial vessels and small leisure craft the whole area defined in the Code for Safe Navigation document (and shown on Admiralty chart 1790), which includes the North and South entrances to Oban Bay, shall be deemed to be Narrow Channels in accordance with Rule 9 of the COLREGS."
thanks that you like my videos. When meeting large commercial vessels, I have learned, that they always have the right of way as they do have much larger turning radiuses and need much more space to navigate. Therefore it was clear to me, that I had to immediately give way and avoid any problems for the ferry. For me it was just a small correction of my course and by speeding up a little, the problem could be solved fast. Regards from Norway
Another great episode from your travels. I enjoyed it even if the ferry captain wasn’t so ! 🤣🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed it, I think he was satisfied that I acted immediately and gave him ample room 😊
We like to watch your videos. I'd like to see what improvements you have made to your boat since you got back to Norway.
