I've been doing macro photography for awhile and this year began with birds. In both cases, I can't tell you how many times I've had a "slow day" only to find opportunities as I was walking back to the car. It's like they wait until I give up to show themselves.

Enjoyed this, thank you. My wildlife photography is always like this - nothing around or else too far off. I do have to combine it with walking the dog which doesn't help, but for now I have lost my mojo and am not taking the camera out with me as often - so will continue to enjoy your videos and lovely photos instead. Already looking forward to next week's!

new sub here. Bird photography is growing on me as well. The challenge is what makes it intresting. Birds are definatly not an easy subject. The owl is my favorite. take care brother!

Right from the start of your walk when you stood next to some bushes you could see a great improvement blending in with the environment Darrell - just a shame not a lot about on the day.👍

The birds usually wait for me to go out without my camera before doing cartwheels in front of me and putting on a show. As soon as I pop back to get it they activate their cloaking devices and radio silence for the rest of the day. I'm sure they do it on purpose.

It’s widely recognised that birds are not fooled by Army style camouflage, you need the “Realtree” leaf patterns now widely sold by hunting and fishing suppliers. Also look at Wildlife Watching Supplies based in Devon, Kevin sells very good camera sleeping in a variety of leaf patterns

The movement of hands and face are the giveaways ..regardless of what you have on, hand movement and looking at the subject will always spook them ..

Totally agree and if you think about it, you notice the presence of wildlife when something moves more often than not.

Darrell have you tried topaz denoise? I tried the free trial and loved it and bought it. I set my camera to auto ISO with max 3200-6400 I don't worry about the noise so much now, I then get my first shots at high speeds so I know I have got something to work with and then drop the shutter speeds to lower with the hope of improving the shot( as long as the subject is still about!)
I only started wildlife photography since we went into lockdown and have to say I am really enjoying it.
Keep up the great videos, always a pleasure to watch and I now have a new location to drag the family too for a nice "walk"

I have found there is no need for camo along hiking trails, the birds are used to people and will carry on looking for food. Away from trails camo can be good. I also fail to see why people use camo hides/blinds in there back yard. All of my back yard photos are just sitting in a chair waiting for them to turn up.

Hi Darrell We enjoyed watching your video, your camouflage is a lot better than your blue tshirt. Sometime the wildlife just doesn't show. We've had times when we've gone out with all our camera equipment and forgot to put the battery in the camera. We always carry spare batteries now. Just in case you are interested Chatterley Whitfield has a number of pools and is a good spot to see the Kingfisher. Thanks Jon & Sandra

I had plenty of batteries I had checked that. Good to know about the Kingfishers at CW.

Great video , we’re you not using your z6ii?

    • @DarrellOakdenPhotography

I have found the auto focus much quicker on the 850 and the image stabilisation in the 200-500 doesn't work with the FTZ adapter.

@@DarrellOakdenPhotography Thanks for reply, I was thinking of getting the z6ii and use the same lens as you. Doesn’t the in body stabilisation on the z6 make up for the loss in the lens? Overall which camera would you take out for bird photography as a 1st choice.

    • @DarrellOakdenPhotography
      @DarrellOakdenPhotography  3 роки тому +2

@@laurencearnold5822 At the moment I am back on the D850 for birds. The in body stabilisation on the Z6ii is not as effective. You can see the image become more stable through the viewfinder with the D850.

    Hi Darrell
In general, I do like watching your videos but it winds me up when people are making videos while driving instead of concentrating on the road.
I drive for a living and much too often I have to sit in traffic jams often caused by people who are distracted from their driving.
How would you feel if a child just happens to run out in front of you and you are just a split second too slow at stopping due to making a video that
could wait until a safer time.
Just had to say this but keep making the video but do it safely.

Do you know how much time it takes to do the B-Roll? I personally think it makes the video more interesting but hey ho each to their own
