Just watched for this video for the 100th time before flying out to Australia on Sunday from the UK. Can't wait to see, hear and hopefully photography the birds in the state of Victoria!
Dear sir duade, I am a 13 year old wildlife photographer and i just discovered your youtube channel. I am totally inspired by you and i absolutely love your video's! Keep up the great work!
Patience, persistence, time, energy all sum up for a great body of work and the final results is very satisfying as a bird photographer. Duade is always great.
How many species you have there that are soooooo beautiful, Each one is amazing! From the Kangaroo to the smaller Warbler, it's just delicious to watch.
Thanks a lot for yet another great video and for sitting for so many scorching hot hours under that sweat bag. I love the wren and the common bronzewing.
Thanks, Duane. One of the fun things about your videos is seeing different birds than here in the US. Superb Fairy Wren and Sacred Kingfisher are not only beautiful, they have great names, as well. The kangaroos where a great bonus.
I love seeing the native birds there! I’m in the USA and it’s great to see all the different species, of course the kangaroo is also cool; I love the little joey by itself! Keep the excellent videos and photography coming!
I like the way that you show how you've set up the shot, perches blinds etc., gives us good tips on how simple this can be giving us confidence to have a go. Thanks
Australia has some ridiculously amazing and colorful birds! Up here in the northern Hemisphere we have very drab birds by comparison. Although you can keep the scorching hot temps!
I live in Canada, about 100 miles north of Ottawa, and often sit in my blind in January at -10 to 20C. A different sort of endurance. I don't think I could handle 42 C though. Great work!
The R6 rocks. When posted online or upscaled using photoshop for printing the photos look just good as compared to the R5 . The only disadvantage is when you heavily crop but still most of the time it is acceptable. The R5s (rumored 90 megapixel) and the R7 (rumored APS-C 32 megapixel) coming this year would be more suitable for wildlife but overall the R6 is still really good most of the time and I have no regrets buying it.
Hi Duade, Just watched this video again for what must be the 10th or 11th time, I'd love to see more videos like this ;) . I'll be visiting south Victoria in Oct/Nov from the UK and hope to see a least some of the amazing birds you have shared with your viewers of the past few years, all the best Jason
I loved this video. Wonderful images and you are a gifted story teller. What is so enjoyable is that it is a realistic "day in the life" presentation of any wildlife photographer. A bit of luck is helpful, but a measure of effort, patience and skill is absolutely required. It so reassuring to realize someone else is having game not show up and gear malfunctioning, all while sitting quietly in camo at daybreak needing to answer the call of nature.
All your photos are well laid out and educational. Even though I have been photographing birds for years now here in south Texas, I always learn something new and I have incorporated them into my field photography and my editing process. I have just gotten the new Canon R7 (previous and still owned cameras: 7D Mark 2, 5D Mark 4, and R5). I am presently shooting with the Sigma 150-600 and based on your recommendations, I am presently saving for the Canon 100-500 RF lens. Thanks again and I look forward to more bird photography adventures and learning tips!
Thanks for the support Allen, sounds like you have lots of experience and have used all the same cameras as I have during my journey. Good luck saving for the 100-500. Cheers, Duade
Well done Duade! I enjoyed you sharing the effort you put into getting the shot your after. It make me feel good to know I'm not the only one chasing a bird. I have now filmed myself 3 days in a hide waiting for a Coopers Hawk. Great shots you captured. I really enjoyed the kangaroos to. Keep up the great content Bill
Thanks Bill, I hope you got your Cooper's Hawk, yes it often takes a lot of time and patience to get certain species. It helps that I enjoy being out in the bush and just spending time with birds. Cheers, Duade 👍
@@Duade I did and I didn't. I have been in my hide, very cold here now, trying for some niceshots of a large mature Coopers. Its not cooperating. But an immature bird did show up and stayed for a very nice shoot. It would take me the rest of the winter to process all I shot.
Like your UA-cams. Live in South Central Texas. Similar climate, but no kangaroos. Am shooting birds using R6 with RF800f8, RF100-500 , RF 1.4 extender. Had similar issue with a card that had been used with the R6 and with a RP. Canon Pro-Rep recommended to never use cards between different Canon models without using this formatting procedure:. Format cards with your COMPUTER then format card with the CAMERA you plan to use. That should clean up your cards.
Awesome Duade...really enjoyed the bird photos and the kangaroos were a bonus. Really enjoy your channel with all the teaching that you do. Looking forward to your next video.
Bloody fantastic, m8!... love the setups. Miss Aussie bird life... especially the lorikeets in the grevillea and black palm cockies... kookaburras are good too when they hear a good joke. But best memories are the Morning wake up call of Aussie Magpies. Thanks for the memories. I went walkabout and ended up in SoCal USA.
Really enjoy watching your videos on how you stage branches etc to attract the birds. Very helpful, and your presentation of your techniques and post-processing workflows in previous videos are very informative. This video makes me miss the Aussie summers, for sure.
Thanks Duade what a marvelous video, I really appreciated it. I am amazed at how the camera can track the eye. I love Sacred Kingfishers, they are lovely little creatures. Full marks for perseverance on a hot day. That is one of the things we have to cope with in Australia. That and the strong light which can be both a negative and a positive.
Great video, really enjoyed! I got my first camera a few weeks ago and im on a budget so I got the Nikon P1000. The image quality is acceptable but there isn't much room to crop with 16MP, but it makes up for it in zoom, it does make it hard having to frame then and there knowing your not going to crop, but its so much fun. Sometimes I havnt even taken a photo but just was in another world watching them close up!
Thanks Duade for enduring the 3 hottest days this summer. to bring us some great footage and images. i suspect you are in the same general part of the state. A question if i may. Do you find the Muckboots get rather hot in this weather.?
Gday John, my pleasure, if I am not doing too much walking the boots are fine. They seem to breath fairly well and are very comfortable for gumboots. I guess I am a little lazy at times and just like to slip on the boots and not have to worry about them getting dirty, or grass stuck in them and I also have the small protection from snakes and ants etc. Cheers, Duade
Hi Duade, great video, thank you, that eye detect focus looks amazing! I haven't read thru all comments, but I did have issues with Sandisk cards I bought from E.Bay. They were duds-showed error message occasionally, got them tested and the capacity and write speeds were a fraction of what was specified. Got a refund from E.bay after some back and forth messaging to the seller. You can do the check on your home p.c. Its possible that your card has low write speed an is buffering. Buy local from trusted source, even though likely to be 3 x price.
Sir what a emotional and difficult b irritating situation rd 🐦 photoshoot memory card error 😱 tour so tired sir that hungry passion of bird 🐦 photography 👏👏👏👏👏👏 👍👍👍👍
As someone who shoots on an EOS RP, I'm so envious of the eye AF. It's so quick and nails the shots what looks to be 99% of the time. I'm thinking in another year or so when Canon has more options in their R lineup, I might make the switch. Great video as always.
I like the way that you show the fial photo and then what the Raw file looked like and how much cropping that you had to do plus I always like to see the exif data that you show.. Helps me learn.. Well done.
A cracking video and kudos for enduring the heat 3 days running. Glad you got the kingfisher shot given your tech issues - it was magnificent. I love how the video shots the AF at work - they appear to have nailed the animal feature. Keep up the great work, Duade
Fantastic review again.... I long for summer being in Sweden... Just got my R6 after replacing the EOSR. I will use it with the 100-400 + the converter 1x4.... We'll se the result... Thank you again for this fantastic experience....
Another great video, thanks Duade! Like others, it’s great to see your RAW files and then your processed images. I’ve not done a set up yet but plan to and your tips are really helpful. I shoot with an R5 and only use a CF Express card. This was a reminder I really should get a new SD card and keep in the camera as a backup. I haven’t had any problem with the CF card but there’s always a first and don’t want that happening at the wrong time. Thanks again for all the content!
Lovely video and pictures. Loved the idea of incorporation of the raw file and transition to final image. Just before the image of the Chough, were the magpie in a threatening posture with the wings spread out flat? Subbed.
Again a very nice video, thanks for that. I use also Lexar cards, ( 64Mb 1667x V60 II professional) sometimes the camera locks up, but I do no think it is the cards. I have the camera now about 6 months and used it a lot, nearly every day. I think I did have about 5 lock ups in that time. I shoot mainly electronic high speed, and short bursts. Last months I use Fv and after some learning time I am used to it and like it, an advantage is that video is only two clicks away!
Great video mate, really enjoy your content. You must be northern Vic because down south I don’t think we’ve registered a hot day this summer 😂 but at least no devastating fires.
Sitting here in cold Wisconsin January (2022), admiring Victoria wildlife. Maybe I will head to WI river soon for eagles, they love the free water below dam once all lakes are frozen. I have a canon 500 mm and 1.4 telex for my 7dmarkII, working on convincing myself to spend $2500 on an r6. Love Victoria and the rest of Australia I;'ve visitied (not enough), love the wildlife, even enjoy the accent mate! Have a cabin on a lake up north with Kingfishers, maybe I need to spend some time concentrating on them, they are cool beyond measure.
Thanks for the comment, yes it can get bloody hot down here as you know, sounds like you have a great kit and plenty of reach with the 7D. I would hold on the R6 until we know what is happening with the R7, if they do release an APSC RF mount mirrorless it could be perfect for your needs. Have fun with the eagles and kingfishers. Cheers, Duade
Thanks I like you videos. I've been doing mostly woodland wild life photography. I have been focused mainly on three squirrel variants, a normal brown(not tech. name), White Morph squirrels and what seems to be the elusive Black squirrel. The few shots I've gotten of the Black Morph is it has been difficult to get detail, which I take as the issue of great distance I've snapped at. I've been experimenting with over exposure. On my 6d I am often at 2500-5000 iso at 400mm with 1/320-1/400 shutter. Is use use a 100-400 and sometimes x1.4, where I lose auto focus at first. Not a big thing, when the Black squirrel sits very still vertically on the side of a tree. I use an FD 400/2.8 with a t90, that's another thing. Been looking at upping my EOS lens to a 400mm(f4 or f2.8 $$$) to use with my digital and my A2e EOS. Or goto a r6 for improved ev or auto focus to f11 if I got that right. This is alot to unpack. Either a 400mm EOS lense, or a New R6 and my existing 100-400 x1.4/x2.0? Thoughts?
Brent, the R6 should work well with the 100-400, I have taken nice shots with my EF400 5.6 and a 1.4ext v3. I usually have to use f10 or 11 for the sharpest shots but the R6 allows ISO up to 12800 without too many noise problems. I did have the pleasure of trying the RF100-500 and that is a beautiful lens also. Good luck, Cheers, Duade
I love how you show your raw file and how you cropped and edited it. I have been on the fence with the R6 because of its 20mp. But seeing the amount of detail you maintain in your shots even after cropping 30% or more is making me think of picking one up. The R5 is super nice but I am not a paid photographer yet and I am not rich. So it’s more then i want to spend on a camera at the moment. But the r6 is that sweet spot. Great work!
I've had the R6 for 11 months and absolutely love it. I also have the M50 (24mp) for 2.5 years. Because the R6 has a full frame sensor and a higher quality sensor, the image is far superior to the M50. The R5 certainly is a great camera, but you need to be prepared to store and process the large files. They can bring a mid-range computer own to its knees, not to mention the graphics card.
G'day Robbey, yes mainly for snakes, ants and we have some grasses that get stuck in shoes so I often find it easier with the boots. These ones breath pretty well so not too bad. Cheers, Duade 👍
I just love how well you explain and also how you motivates those who might feel discouraged about their camera gear. I've learned how youvmanages to take those beautiful photos of the smaller birds. Keep doing the good work all the way from Pretoria South Africa.
thank you for naming the birds! great shots, loved the bronzewing and the kingfisher. quite unorthodox of you to shoot at such high ISO compared to most other photographers but it clearly works for you and you get some excellent images!
Gabe, thanks for the comment. I didn't have a lot of light so ISO3200 worked best in this scenario as it still gave me adequate SS to avoid motion blur. The camera also has no issues shooting at 3200 whilst maintaining IQ. Cheers, Duade
Nice job, and jeez but you have some stunning birds down there in down under! Appreciate the details on the need to sometimes need to create your own perches to encourage the birds to land, and for mentioning the company source you used for the blind. Craig. Ps, i also appreciate that you tell us what type of bird each is, and showing us the raw then edited versions.
Thanks Mike, I had to google Ken Burns effect :-) Yes seems to work well with the large photos which allows you to show nice detail zoomed in. Cheers, Duade
Wow, Duade wonderful captures of birds and wildlife. So glad I subscribed to your channel as I have been enjoying bird photography with my new R6. You have some really well produced videos that must have taken a lot of planning and preparation. It is great to see you in the field on how you setup and get ready to photo the really wide variety of animals.
G'day Tom, thank you for your lovely comment, yes, it does take a lot of time to plan, film and edit these videos. I'm glad people are finding them helpful and enjoyable. Cheers, Duade 👍

Craig, yes, I was happy to get the shot after the effort. Yes, once the eye af locks on it is incredible. Cheers, Duade
Fantastic review again.... I long for summer being in Sweden... Just got my R6 after replacing the EOSR. I will use it with the 100-400 + the converter 1x4.... We'll se the result... Thank you again for this fantastic experience....
Daniel, it is my pleasure, good luck with the R6, Cheers, Duade
Another great video, thanks Duade! Like others, it’s great to see your RAW files and then your processed images. I’ve not done a set up yet but plan to and your tips are really helpful. I shoot with an R5 and only use a CF Express card. This was a reminder I really should get a new SD card and keep in the camera as a backup. I haven’t had any problem with the CF card but there’s always a first and don’t want that happening at the wrong time. Thanks again for all the content!
G'day Ricky, my pleasure, it's a great learning tool and I'm happy to share. Yes, a good idea to have the SD card just in case. Cheers, Duade 👍
Lovely video and pictures. Loved the idea of incorporation of the raw file and transition to final image.
Just before the image of the Chough, were the magpie in a threatening posture with the wings spread out flat?
Subbed.
Thank you, I'm not exactly sure what that posture actually means. Would be interesting to know. Cheers, Duade
Wow, excellent shots sir 👌👌👌👌👌👌love it 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Rakesh, I'm glad you liked it, Cheers, Duade
Bummer about the SD card glitch at the worst time. Lucky you come through with a perfect king fisher shot!
Thanks
Again a very nice video, thanks for that. I use also Lexar cards, ( 64Mb 1667x V60 II professional) sometimes the camera locks up, but I do no think it is the cards. I have the camera now about 6 months and used it a lot, nearly every day. I think I did have about 5 lock ups in that time. I shoot mainly electronic high speed, and short bursts. Last months I use Fv and after some learning time I am used to it and like it, an advantage is that video is only two clicks away!
G'day, thanks for your comment, sorry to hear you have had a few lock ups. I havent used FV mode as I usually shoot in manual. Cheers, Duade
Great video mate, really enjoy your content. You must be northern Vic because down south I don’t think we’ve registered a hot day this summer 😂 but at least no devastating fires.
Trevor, thanks for the comment, yes, I'm in the North East next to the Warby Ranges. Cheers, Duade
Great video. Thank you for the bird identification and before after crop and edit. It's very useful to have the bird named ... from UK
G'day Caroline, my pleasure, I'm glad it's helpful. Cheers, Duade 👍
@@Duade Thanks for your reply.
Extra great video :) I liked the magpie.
Thanks Jan, yes, I was also happy with that one. Cheers, Duade 👍
Great work!
The R6 is a fantastic camera and the more I use it the more I am impressed. Cheers, Duade
Really enjoyed this episode, thank you!
Thanks Verlene, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Duade 👍
Really enjoyed the video Duade. Such a variety of birds.
Thanks Shelley, I hope you are well and taking lots of photos of birds. Cheers, Duade
Liked your vedio very much sir. Hard work never fails. Fantastic sir.
Thanks Marimuthu, Cheers, Duade
I did note theat you wore gum boots on a summer day .... over 100F .... snake protection?
Great video tutorial
I was wondering about that! They must smell a bit by now.
G'day Robbey, yes mainly for snakes, ants and we have some grasses that get stuck in shoes so I often find it easier with the boots. These ones breath pretty well so not too bad. Cheers, Duade 👍
terrific video, thanks for taking the time to demonstrate your techniques!
G'day Aytch, my pleasure, Cheers, Duade 👍
I just love how well you explain and also how you motivates those who might feel discouraged about their camera gear. I've learned how youvmanages to take those beautiful photos of the smaller birds. Keep doing the good work all the way from Pretoria South Africa.
Matshete, I appreciate the feedback, Cheers, Duade
Greetings from Bulgaria sir , you have amazing birds in Australia, nice setup and preparation , superb photos!
G'day and thank you. Cheers, Duade 👍
thank you for naming the birds! great shots, loved the bronzewing and the kingfisher. quite unorthodox of you to shoot at such high ISO compared to most other photographers but it clearly works for you and you get some excellent images!
G'day Craig, my pleasure, glad you are finding the videos helpful. Cheers, Duade 👍
Excellent video with nice Ken Burns effect. Thank you for your effort.
Thanks Mike, I had to google Ken Burns effect :-) Yes seems to work well with the large photos which allows you to show nice detail zoomed in. Cheers, Duade
How Aussie Duade a roo & magpie together, really liked you joey shot.
Dean, yes, I really liked the Kangaroo shots also.
Thanks Duade!!
G'day Miguel, my pleasure, Cheers, Duade 👍
Great video as all ways.
THanks John, Cheers, Duade
