Thank you for this detailed review! I have not seen this movie and have no plans to do so, even just from the trailers. I can say that the main message of the movie is that Mother Cabrini was a successful humanitarian despite being Catholic (and all the “obstacles” that this entails). What a horrible message on two fronts. First, she was there primarily to take care of the new Italian immigrants’ spiritual needs - the temporal needs were a means to this end, so to reduce her to a humanitarian is a great injustice to her work for the glory of God. Secondly, this movie places the Church in a negative light with historical distortions.

She was known to write " My secure boat is the Sacred Heart , my Star of the sea is Mary, and my protector is St Francis Xavier , the wonder worker . "
The fact that none of that was mentioned is heartbreaking.
She was kind and unselfish, but the movie gave her a completely different character. So sad!!! She loved her Catholic Faith!!
She was said to be a "portrait of peace" and a swift and determined agent of the Heart of Christ.
I'm not surprised this film was made and that it was a false view of this amazing saint but its still heartbreaking nonetheless.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get together and make the true story of Mother Cabrini s life? Then people could see the truth and maybe some would choose the truth!

EWTN made a movie about 2 years ago entitled “Mother Cabrini” , this one is really a Catholic movie about St. Frances Cabrini.

Actually some non Catholic who go see the film got curious about St. Frances Cabrini & ask question how she became a Saint; so there you go it start a conversation, God works in a mysterious ways.

I would certainly ask those questions too - it is an absolute fair question, one everybody should be asking.... How is what is going on in that movie making a saint? Lots of people look after the poor, that doesn't make a saint. And the movie doesn't tell you what makes a saint.
All things can be stepping stones - I myself was encouraged in Tradition bc of the movie "Sister Act" - And I certainly would never recommend that to ANYONE - people come to God from all different places - it's called God's Grace - God takes evil and uses it to advantage - Just as Ciaphas murdered Christ. That doesn't mean we get to promote evil.
Well in fact God may be using evil but those of us who attempt to use evil to promote goodness, only do detriment to our own soul.

The gentleman who produced and funded the film stated that he wanted to portray Mother Cabrini as a "woman who happened to be a nun." He succeeded. He made a film about a good person, a social worker, an activist but not a Catholic nun.

It’s not surprising that the company that does “The Chosen” with its bizarro Jesus would make a film about a saint without the Catholic part.

You can tell just from the music of the trailer that it was going to be a feminist movie. I had no desire to see it, and now I'm definitely not going to. Thank you for this. First time listener of this site, just subscribed.

It’s not a catholic movie, it’s a secular movie of a Catholic saint. Nevertheless it’s still a good movie compared to the movies of today.

Thank you for taking the time to do this; I saw snippets of a "Sneak Preview" here and there (including on Facebook) about this movie, and I was very put off by all of it. I appreciate your thorough review and note-taking (sorry you had to sit through it by yourself, Mandy, but I appreciate the three of you doing thorough research on this). I get very queasy about movies (and books, too, to be honest) of this nature to begin with, to be honest, so I don't/won't delve into them. Plus, how they didn't mention who the Pope was during Mother Cabrini's lifetime (or even any of the priests or religious she interacted with on a daily basis); having gone on pilgrimages with my classmates to her shrine when I was in Grade School, that was one of the pointers that turned me off. If a book or movie doesn't tend to gear one more to the greater glory of God and properly depict how the Saint being portrayed worked for that and for the salvation of souls, I don't feel like its worth my time. Unfortunately, that's how Hollywood (the world) operates, which is why I stay away from it. And I definitely like your ideas of trying to rescue the movie; it'd be great to see it redone with truly/thoroughly Catholic principles, with the Sacred Heart at the center (as He should be) - to give back to everyone the true image of what a Saint is actually like, and what Our Lord is actually like. 🙂

My thought on Fr. Mike Schmit was that he didn't really want to support the film - he said he had to think about it for days before he could say something. ..... and then when he finally came forth to say something it was - the "good" outweighed the bad.
WOW glowing recommendation- not - as a priest he HAS TO KNOW he was just dragged through the mud - like he HAD to know that.

I thank you for your review and it truly shows that Mel Gibson's movies are truly inspiring! Both CMRI and here at St. Gertrude the Great are in agreement that this movie as a Catholic movie falls short. They are only fulfilling the concilliour church's agenda and I think a true Catholic will see that and leave. 😊

    And an immigrant. 3 nukes.
Also Girl and a Boss, so that's like 5-6 people in one woman, so that's 7 people.

Well I'm so sorry that you really doesn't see Jesus in this movie but you have to consider that people are different. My thoughts & feelings is not the same are yours. I will actually recommend this movie to those who doesn't know about Mother Cabrini like me & now I want to know more about her.

BEFORE watching this review, the trailer was not impressive... Looked like pumping the 'social justice' narrative, and they actually had her yell in a hall "I am a woman!". :/
Many of these movies don't portray saints to have the saint like qualities and charity that they had in real life, which is an unfortunate consequence of retelling their story in film.
Plus, Novus ordo clerics advised on this one, so now ill listen to what the Catholic Wire has to say, since i could only comment on the trailer! :)

The expectations everyone expects of this movie is over the top. It’s Hollywood what do you expect. At the same time it’s still a good movie and does Cabrini justice in her role of helping the sick and the poor. If you want movies that are catholic approved start a crowd fund and make your own movies. At least someone made a movie to bring light to the saint. I came out of this movie with a new devotion to her.

I think for people who know about Mother Cabrini, they fill the gaps with their knowledge.
I’m sure people will come inspired about Mother Cabrini… but disgusted of the Catholic Church. (At the very least of the hierarchy…)😓

    • @sedevacante1tm559
      @sedevacante1tm559 5 місяців тому

I don’t see people being disgusted with the “Catholic Church” anymore than they should be in regards to the current conciliar same sex blessing apostate church that’s in the Vatican. If you are referring to her interactions with the pope and archbishop I don’t know the historical accuracy of her conversations with them but the portrayal of her being obedient is there, she just finds ways to be smart about her next moves for her mission. If you think about it. How hard during that time period it would’ve been for a women (nun) to do what she did. She had Gods hand working through her and the movie shows that whether it’s in a theological sense or not you see it.

This movie was made by Angel Studios, who made the film, “Sound of Freedom”, with Jim Caviezel, who portrayed Jesus in, “The Passion”. So they are supposed to be a small independent film company. However, I’m not sure if they are Protestant.
