Not to be prideful, because I’m not, but I have traditional Catholic male friends who have thanked me for dressing modestly. They said they look at me (meaning my face) and aren’t tempted to look at my body (which is properly covered). This is such a nice compliment.

Thank you for speaking out about this, Father. I wish more priests would talk about these sensitive topics without being afraid of the laity’s reproach.
For me personally, I’ve been feeling a call to be more modest lately. I’ve never been one to show off a ton of skin, but like most Americans it never occurred to me that leggings, or shorts or pants would be immodest or inappropriate. I’m really rethinking my whole wardrobe in the past couple months and I’ve been slowly moving towards a better way to dress modestly for the glory of God and my own dignity. Please keep up the good work and never be afraid to speak the truth! ❤

I encourage other women to pursue beauty through craft! I make cowls, vests, wraps and shawls through crochet to help cover my chest and it's honestly something im very happy i can do for myself and friends. A lace or mesh poncho in the summer can be very classy!
My job requires close fitting clothes to avoid injury, but in my free time i enjoy skirts. In the near future i will be learning how to sew my own modesty panels so i dont have to avoid buying vnecks, and skirts. Unfortunately a lot of women's clothing is thin, tight, or missing coverage.

I didn’t think the rose was a great analogy. The rose was ugly when its petals were removed. Our bodies are not ugly! They are beautiful! But, because of sin people objectify other’s bodies for their own pleasure so we must protect and cover what is precious and beautiful and only reveal it at the proper time.
A better analogy is fruit. It has a skin or peel that protects the delicious fruit on the inside. If the peel or skin is removed before the right time it will spoil and rot! So too with our bodies, when we reveal intimate parts when it’s not the right time our souls can spoil and rot!

Don’t feel refreshed because he’s wrong. For example for most of Christendom high society men wore skirts. Women in the past emphatics the line of their Christ and bust and not the legs, because they were more overweight so that looked better. The Church never complained unless they were religious.

It has been my conviction to dress modestly for several years now. I wear dresses most of the time and always to mass. It is a challenge to be modest living in a place where it is 100 + degrees for at least 4 months of the year. wearing pants is sometimes necessary for me. I'm widowed and live alone on my small farm. I have to do the work that is traditionally male. It is unsafe for me to climb a ladder, run a chain saw or work with large power equipment in a dress. Mostly I am alone and no one sees me when I dress like this, and I believe God understands.

Father your words are BEAUTIFUL. Thank you very much. With all my heart I thank you. Oh that we could hear sermons like this more often.
You are brave and you are inspired by our Lord to speak these words. Freeing us from the tyranny of the world! This will stay with me. I am old now and have made many bad mistakes and just recently I have started attending the most reverent Latin Mass of my youth. I wear a head covering and always a skirt or a dress now to attend Mass but since hearing you I am now inclined to stop wearing trousers at all. We usually call them trousers in England. Maybe the young ones call them pants. They have adopted many American terms.
I remember years ago when my mother saw me in trousers for the first time. She was saddened, but I chose not to heed her sadness.
When we are young we can be like that.
When we are old we can be like that.
    Unheeding!
But oh Father you have inspired me this day and God is telling me that it is no coincidence that I have found your sermon today. Thank you and may God reward you for your words.

Father, we ladies are constantly reminded of the need for modesty, but proper attire for men is never addressed. I’m speaking specifically about proper attire for Holy Mass. Dressing well for Mass is one of the ways we show respect for Our Lord - polo shirts, short sleeve, open neck, no ties (and forget suit jackets!) and even turtleneck shirts are not acceptable for Mass. Thankfully, I’ve seen no out-and-out t-shirts of late…at my church the ladies come dressed to the nines, but a lot of the men come dressed casually. Can we take a look at that, please? Thanks for listening.

This is exactly why the topic of modesty is not taken well.
      1) it is always addressed towards women as if men don’t need to correct their ways.
      2) I agree with everything the priest has said, but WHY has this not been addressed by priests in all parishes throughout all these decades upon decades???
Are they responsible in part for the manner in which immodesty has gotten out of hand?
I was fortunate/unfortunate to have a Dad who did NOT allow us to wear makeup, OR wear pants…but I was the only, and I mean the ONLY CATHOLIC, not wearing pants at the school I attended…because priests NEVER EVER spoke of this at church.
Growing up people thought I was a Jehovah’s Witness!…that is how awkward it was, …
…I personally thought that it was my Dad’s own beef that he had and was only using the Bible to keep us dressing how he wanted us to, again because priests were failing to lead in the modesty department and have allowed it to get to this point…the Muslim women certainly didn’t have this problem.
      3) hurray that you’re talking about it, shame on you all for NOT keeping order in the house on BOTH men and women…parishioner count & $$$$ were more important.
4)Ladies, don’t dress modest out of vanity, because it shows and it looks all kinds of wrong…do the interior work and let your exterior reflect it….
      5) fact, men like curves, ladies can be wearing a dress and men will “own her body in their mind” and not let go of that image. Fix that…stop focusing the blame on women.

    • @viperfanacr
      @viperfanacr Місяць тому

collared shirts (polo, short sleeve button down w/ or w/o tie) with short sleeves are acceptable for Mass. if that is your standard for men then like wise women must not wear any short sleeve dresses. They must wear dresses that go from 2" below neck, down to wrist and down to ankles.
Jeans and shorts of any kind are never to be worn.
Where do you derive this definition from??

I live somewhere really hot and humid, somewhere that reaches 40 degrees C in the summer and feels like 45 degrees because there's basically no wind due to the landscape. People really do die or at least require emergency medical care due to overheating. The fashion style is more casual here than other places because of the climate and lifestyle. It's difficult to wear a bra in this weather, but I still can't not wear a bra to avoid attracting attention.
Also, I bike to church, even in the rain. It's impractical (and a little dangerous) to wear skirts while biking. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

For women concerned about playing sports, working outside, being active and doing so modestly, Amazon (and other places, I'm sure) have these lovely skirts with built-in leggings or shorts. You can get them below the knee (just pay attention to length while shopping). They are light-weight and flexible, but not form-fitting (don't be afraid to go a size up if needed).
Wearing skirts for playing sports is a switch I've made over the past year or two. And believe you me, as a hard-core tomboy for most of my life, it has not been an easy thing, so I truly understand those who are hesitant. But it is very doable. I knew I COULD do it, because I grew up wearing heavy jean skirts for everything from baling hay to playing baseball - I just didn't really WANT to....😏
For swimming, there are actually many options as well. There are (really cute!) long tops with sleeves (long, short, or elbow length) that you can pair with swim capris. And bonus: if you're swimming in the ocean and run into a jellyfish, less skin to be stung. (Hey, it's a legit concern sometimes!! 😂😂)

One of the worst things about wearing a skirt is the ability for somebody else to just come and pull your dress up in the air And it has happened believe me. It’s easier for men to pull your dress up and pull your underwear off. At least if you wear pants you’re more protected. I’m not saying to wear skin tight pants, I mean a decent pair of pants, those are good for women. Men used to wear dresses long time ago. Who has made the decision that dresses are for women? I said something to her. The Priest there at the time told me I was wrong to speak up. I could not believe that was his attitude. He said to me "how would you feel if someone tells you your outfit is immodest" I said I would be ashamed and change but they wouldn't I have on a long skirt and well covering top no one would say this is immodest. ..... The woman could not believe I spoke up and was outraged. Well I don't ever hurt anyones feelings on purpose but you should not wear underwear as pants to church!! Jesus said that if your brother is sinning inform them (paraphrased) and that was a grotescque display of her body in the church. You also assume I do not pray for her. You also assume I did not apologize for hurting her feelings. I did both and I pray for her daily. Perhaps you should take your own advice. And NOT speaking up to others is one of the major ways the church has gotten into so much trouble in so many various ways. Let’s all be nice to each other here. I think that when a woman is wearing clothing so bad that it could make other people sin, specially in church one HAS to say something. Specially if no one else will. There is a difference:
We don’t judge private sins. That would be being a busy body.
We do try to stop (even without judging) PUBLIC sins. Because those we are certain of, and they harm other people.
That being said, it’s always important how we come across and we should try to do it in such a way that we make it easy for the other person to accept what we tell them, and discreetly to correct the situation.👍

The standards of Christian modesty state that skirts must cover the knees when sitting or standing. How then would it be immodest for us to walk around in a skirt that is two to three inches below the knee rather than ankle length? Why should women go back to Victorian standards of dress in order to be modest?
I always thought myself modestly dressed because my dresses and skirts all meet the standards of Christian modesty set by Pope Pius XI. So you are telling me that I have to wear long sleeves in summer and skirts down to my ankles or feet in order to be modest? What about little girls who like to play on the playground? Surely they can't manage climbing structures in a skirt down to the ankles. They can in a tea length skirt. (Mid calf length). I am raising five daughters and three sons. My youngest is six years old. My oldest is 18.
Having the girls never wear trousers or shorts would mean that they couldn't bike ride, go to ballet classes, or play on the girls' sports teams at their Novus Ordo parochial school. I would argue that bike riding is unsafe in an ankle length skirt. The skirt could get caught up in the chain. Even Victorian ladies wore the Victorian version of skorts when they rode bikes. Surely their split skirts were not immodest. My youngest daughter is in ballet. She was in the Nutcracker ballet last year as a mouse. So by this standard she would have to hang up her ballet shoes and never dance again. It doesn't seem fair. Ballet is an art that has been around for centuries. So by this standard since she is required to wear a leotard, tights and a short ballet skirt, she should never dance. The costume for being a mouse is a one piece body suit with a hood. It is the same for both boys and girls. You can't even see their faces when they are in full costume because they are covered with a mask. She has only one or two little boys in her class. Surely it is not immodest when the kids are only between four and seven years old? As long as she puts on a dress over her leotard after class, wouldn't she still be modest? They dance to classical ballet music.
My middle school aged daughter wanted to play soccer for her parochial school last year. The uniform is a short sleeve shirt and a pair of shorts and knee socks and cleats. It is a single sex sports team. Should she not be allowed to go out for any of the sports teams because she can't wear a dress while playing?

Catholic schools, prior to Vatican II, used to teach ballet classes to their girls in all girls preparatory schools. It develops grace, poise, and balance. Duschesne Academy in Omaha Nebraska, which used to be owned by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, has a ballet studio in the oldest part of the building because the Sisters used to teach the girls ballet in order to develop their sense of grace and balance. These girls often went on to marry well. The Catholic faith was very much a part of their education too before Vatican II. The school has lost a lot since Vatican II, but it is still an all girls' academy with high academic standards. The Sisters are all gone now, but their spirit permeates the building anyway. I know because I visited once.
I have my youngest daughter in an academy that only teaches ballet and contemporary. It does not teach any other forms of dance. They dance to classical music. In the upper levels of ballet, classes are segregated according to sex. None of the movements in ballet, and I have seen a lot of ballet over the years because my youngest is not my only daughter who has been in ballet, are suggestive.
