R35 Nissan GT-R Lowering Spring Installation Guide *The Perfect Drop*

  • 👋 Today I upgrade the suspension on my 2014 R35 Nissan GT-R! The GTR could really use an extra bump in handling and looks, so I decided to install the H&R lowering springs. These drop the R35 GT-R a half inch all around and still retain the three damping settings. This installation guide will be identical to all R35 Nissan GTR models form 2009-2022. Very simple installation to be honest and I had a lot of fun with this project! To start installing lowering springs on the R35 Nissan GTR you'll need to remove the rear seats and rear interior. Seats pop out with a tab, and then the back rest just have 1 bolt. Then the center console pops up and there is 1 plug. Then the speaker surround pops off. That was hard to get off and I pulled it hard enough to fall back into the seat ;) Then the sides all just pop off with plastic tabs. I did take the seatbelt bolts out to get the upper pieces out. Last the rear shelf slides off after the plastic screws are removed. Disconnect the plug from the top of the damper. You have the strut tower under the foil and can loosen the 3 bolts. Only 1 bolt holds the rear shocks to the control arm. With the rear struts out, use the spring compressor and then take the top bolt out. You won't need the spring compressor to reinstall the H&R springs in the rear. The front struts are pretty simple to take out as well. You'll need to take out the swaybar end link bolt, lower shock bolt, brake line bolt, upper control arm bolt and rubber grommets holding the brake lines. Then the 3 bolts on the top of the strut get removed and lastly unplug the damper cable. I found it was easiest to push the lower control arm down, and the upper control arm up, and slide the strut towards the engine and down. Let the underside rotate around the axle and you'll get it removed. I did need the spring compressor to install the new lowering springs for the front struts. Takes about 7 hours but is very doable! Car has a solid half inch drop in all 4 corners and looks great! Excited to get the alignment done and test out the new springs in the GTR! Video to come of the new lowered look and handling characteristics!!

    Wow after a really long time seeing the GT-R. Awesome video, the new lowering springs are key for the cars stance & the HF-5 wheels from Vossen are my favourite set of wheels 😍.
    Also the car looks great in the fall with the sun setting 👌

    I did same springs as I mentioned on my GT-R and yes 2 people are required for the front to make things easy. I did not use any spring compressor. For dissembly or assembly first car i owned that didn't require to press OEM springs so spring won't fly out. Nice drop! Cheers. Only reason I go with slight drop lowering springs because i don't track and requires no mainnance...

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  2 роки тому +1

      That's odd you didnt need a compressor. There was no way I could get the new springs even in without it. I figured this would be the perfect setup for me too. No need to take away the adjustable dampers. And I only wanted it a tad lower

    • @StreetDrivenDaily
      @StreetDrivenDaily 2 роки тому +1

      @@BrosFOURRSpeed yes sirrr.. I had cars with coilovers... I was always playing. With drop and some had leak which required a rebuilt. For track use no doubt coils for street use springs are fine and I hate to drop any AWD car more than an inch. So geometry stays close to stock so half an inch drop it's Perfecto!

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  2 роки тому +1

      @@StreetDrivenDaily Yeah I couldn't see dropping it too low. Would ruin the performance. The camber is maxed out now anyways, so any lower I'd want adjustable arms and more things just to get it back to normal

    Looks great!! Wanting to go 0.5 - 0.75 lower on mine. Does this keep the ability to use comfort and race mode? I've read that people had to go with coilovers instead. Using it as a street car and maybe one or two track days a year. Also considering Neko sleeves. Thoughts and advice?

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  2 роки тому +1

      That's why I went with springs. I can still use the three suspension modes since the dampers are the stock ones. Coilovers you'll loose that and just have a fixed setup with the manual adjustments. The Eibach lower it a bit more then Therese. And I think HKS has adjustable ones. Or KW

      Why not?
      Wanted the car a bit lower and wanted the improved handling characteristics. I did these on my Supra and it handles so much better with the springs. Very well worth it. I'll have a video going up next week on my review of these springs and why they are beneficial and how the drop looks

      @@300zxdriver So do we. But I’ve never had any issues scraping stock. I always have more then an inch of clearance. So lowering it .5in. I still don’t scrape on anything. And I get the better handling too 😜

    15:20 the brakes squeaking noise is it from the posi quiet pads?

      They havent squeaked in the two years I've had them on. Just recently they have been squealing a bit. But after driving in the snow, I then washed the entire underside of the cars and hosed off the rakes inside and out. And they havent been squeaking anymore. So probably just had some build up in them
