you are an absolute master of many trades and i have thoroughly enjoyed watching, thanks for teaching me many things i am currently rebuilding a boat for a client and your videos have helped in a few areas. thanks again
Barry you are truly inspiration. Alone you pull out great build. You gave a new life to the boat that was ready to be scrapped. Please do me a favor and enjoy in you creation. Take a week off do some fishing....I am impressed. Thanks for sharing
As I have watched every video of this build, I would personally appreciate a video of the launch, no matter the quality of the footage. It's been quite a journey, even as a viewer.
I just completed watching the complete build and had to take the time to say I really enjoyed what you have shared with the you tube community and your work is amazing. You have a gift. Thanks
Mr. Barry Luke It has been such a pleasure to follow your project. Glad you've made it till the end but sad cause there's no more steps to watch I find you very skilled . Everything on that boat got your signature. Very impressed I wish you all the best your your new boat and lots of pleasure out it Take care
That was a very nice series of videos. I gotten a bunch of ideas and tricks for my boat project. Thanks for sharing your time and talents. All the best... Chuck
Hi Sir Johan from South Africa, really enjoyed the build along. I am currently working on my own 16ft Ace craft. I really learned a lot from your videos, thank you so much.
Stumbled on to your videos today did not watch all of the boat ones but most of them . First off Barry great job !! Nothing wrong with reusing what you got around man . (I call it recycling) Im a fellow maguyver at heart I have learned thru trial and error nothing wrong with making mistakes just not the same ones. ONCE AGAIN GREAT JOB BARRY!! Laz Gonzalez
Laz Thanks for the kind words! There are people out there that do perfect work with all of the correct materials etc. In a way I envy them because who doesn't want perfection? I just realized a long time age that it was not in my gene pool to work like that. So now I make do and accept my work as good, just in another category. Apparently you and I are on the same page, no better and no worse that the perfectionists. Just in a different book. Barry
Bravo Barry!! It's been very entertaining watching your build. I love your 'seat of the pants' builds, no CAD, no blueprints, just build it. Bon Voyage when you launch. Oh...don't forget to put the plug in !!! LoL
Thanks Fish! The last time I went fishing I borrowed my Son's flat boat and I did remember to put in the plug. But there were two. A little embarrassing. But now I am all about putting in plugs. Thanks for watching and for being a subscriber. Barry
Well I am sure you will come up with something good and exited sooner than later, I'll be there for complements and encourage! Looking forward for that launching video though, I need to see that puppy swimming 🛥
Can’t wait for the Maiden voyage. This series has been a great motivator for me. I dove head first into my old 22’ cuddy cabin conversion to Cc. Thanks for the kick in butt.
Thank you for all the hard work and filming, you do possess an amazing skill set, and i love your dive in and lets see how it goes approach!! Boat looks amazing and our great grand kids will still be using it. Have a great day!!
I have really enjoyed watching every video of your rebuild. I like the way you attack problems with creative solutions. I keep saying to myself "yep, that's what I would do". Great job on both the boat and the videos.
I have watched dozens of boat build series videos on UA-cam. This series is right up there at the top of them all (not quite “Tips from a Shipwright” but the best of any amateur build series IMO). Your general problem solving and creativity is consistently impressive to me. I loved the tone you took with the viewers. I liked the voiceover narration style. Plus I thought you struck a great balance in terms of editing: showing and explaining things of note at every step without extended clips of monotonous stuff like sanding. Thanks for taking the time to commit this to video so we could come along for the ride!! Plus, the finished product is a very handsome looking boat. As an aside I have to say I always considered Chris Craft to be a high quality boat but after watching the tear out of this hull I definitely don’t think that any more. What you (re)built seems 200% better than what Chris Craft built.
BA Well it’s comments like these that keep the old man going, that’s for sure. Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to send this note! You are the best. Barry
Congrats on the almost ready for launch build! One final suggestion on your fuel system. I think your fuel tank breather is through the starboard hull. In heavy seas we have sucked water through the breather due to suction from the fuel sloshing back and forth in the tank. We've moved the breather inboard tucked underneath the gunwale if possible. There is enough fresh air to prevent buildup of an explosive atmosphere as it is open. If that is not an option we've put an ess in the breather line underneath the gunwales and below the breather level. This captures any water coming from the breather and we have a small petcock to let the captured water out. Keeping any water away from the fuel for your beautiful ETEC is priceless. Again, great craftsmanship and staying on track with your project boat ... well done!
You did a great job on this boat if your going to be keeping this boat in the ocean on a morning you should do a video on building a dingy to get out to it a small little fun project idea
Derek I think once is enough. Restore an older boat maybe, but redesign a boat, probably not. Thank you for watching and thank you for the kind words. Barry
About that forklift battery. When I worked with them, they needed maintenance, specifically to be filled up with distilled water. Where I worked would put it off for forever, and our batteries hardly lasted, but once they were topped off with distilled water, they ran like new.
Thanks Fireman! Yup, very low water when I got it. With fresh water it does ok but will go down if not used for a month or so. I think if it gets too bad I will just make a rack for three car batteries. That should power whatever I need.
Looks good. I've been watching from the beginning! Looks great. Can't wait to see it in the water. I've been trying to follow along with my boat project, but you seem to work a little faster than me.
Really nice boat you turned out there. Hope it turns out to be as good as it looks. You're quite an inspiration. I just got myself a tubing bender like you have and plan on duplicating your tee top and console. Sorry to see it finished. I just found you and now you're leaving?? Take a well-deserved rest and see you back again soon I hope
Thanks Man! Appreciate the kind words for sure. Good luck on your project and enjoy the journey. Not leaving, still making videos. Maybe just not all about boats for a while. Barry
Hey Barry how about a video on how much this project cost? Alot of guys buy a boat and have dreams of rebuilding them but quickly realize it costs alot more and takes 3times the hrs of labor to complete.
Shorev83 Interesting suggestion. I don't know the cost as I purposely threw away all invoices. I didn't want to know, but it was a lot. A lot of labor also. I work fast, work hard, have good work areas (except for the tree leaves), am retired, and have good tools and it still took a long time. I think replacing rotten parts and putting a boat back together like it was originally would be order of magnitude easier for those thinking about taking on a boat project. Like I said in video #1, it makes no practical sense. I just wanted to do it. Barry
You are really an excellent craftsman and that boat looks beatiful ,congrats ,my only question is why are the deck drains so far forward instead of putting them closer to the transom closeout, and maybe make them drain to the side ,thanks for the video series
Carlos Thanks for the kind words, they keep me going! I wanted the floor drain away from the back a little to make fairing it out a little easier. Under water fittings are generally not put on the side of a boat for fear of ripping them off in the event of contact with something in the water like an old pile of something. The back under the swim step is a safer place. Thanks for watching! Barry
PS: I have used wire wheels a lot on grinders and I wouldn't even start the grinder without a face shield! Lots of places that a guy can get away with skipping it but the wires break off in short pieces in wire wheels and it throws them around at high speeds. Rarely use a wheel on the grinder when I don't pick wires out of my coveralls. Hate to think what one would do to your eyes and glasses are not enough by a long shot. Don't need me harping but sometimes a guy kind of unknowingly drops the priority level and needs a reminder.
you are an absolute master of many trades and i have thoroughly enjoyed watching, thanks for teaching me many things i am currently rebuilding a boat for a client and your videos have helped in a few areas. thanks again

Mick

Barry
Great job on your build!
Thank you Kevin!
Barry
Watched every episode and have learned a lot. I'm in the process of building a new boat from scratch.
Glen
I have build a couple of very small boats from scratch and enjoyed those builds. Hope my videos are of some help to your project.
Barry
I have enjoyed watching your build .I like turning nothing into something also.

A kindred spirt!

Definitely won't be disappointed

As much as I am ready to be finished with this boat your suggestion makes good sense.
Might just have to address this issue.
thanks Barry
Sad to see it coming to an end, I enjoy this series very much, got many ideas for my build, still on hold til move to mew location

Great Job.

I have used the pvc drain tailpieces for my aluminum rod holders. Already has the flare but a heat gun can increase it if you want.

Another good tip, thanks.

Barry, we have to go with you on her maiden voyage!

You will be around, as much as my Cannon S110 will allow.
