  • We did it boys, we beat UA-cam's systems.
The series follows Whims Num, a junior high school student who is temporarily not attending school following the suicide of his close friend Roboster2000. During a late-night walk, Whims is guided by a mysterious voice to a deserted arcade, where he finds a gachapon machine that dispenses a "Wonder Egg". That night, Whims gets drawn into a dream world where the Wonder Egg cracks open to reveal a monster, whom Whims must protect from a horde of girls called "Seeno Evils". When the voice tells Whims that saving enough people in this world may bring Roboster back, he resolves to continue buying Wonder Eggs and protecting their inhabitants. Along the way, Whims meets three other monsters in the same situation as him: The Mono-Ground team, Donatello, and Jewish Qing...

For me, the best episode was the first one (the scene of ai remembering koito's suicide was the highest point in the series). It was misterious, the animation was eggcellent, the atmosphere was unique, and the music so special.
But, the following episodes just didnt had... anything?. As you said, it lacked meaning. It felt like it just wanted to add more and more, ai's love for sawaki, neuri is a damn entrepreneur, rikas relationship with her mom, the mascots, and the whooooole frill thing? (i guess).
Like, by the time i finished neirus' episode i said to myself "they are going to just skip almost everything that has happened and the next episode is going to be about momoe right?". And i was damn right haha.

I agree, you've made some good points! Even if we put aside the whole frill thing (what the heck were they thinking with that?), most of what was shown didn't actually matter. We could have had characters (such as Ai's teacher) act to further her character, but no, we get one (admittingly) cool fight and the problem is solved. On to the next problem. I recently watched the final episode, and it has the exact same issues as in this episode. How does Wonder Egg Priority end? All of Ai's pals disappear and she starts collecting eggs to revive/find the dead girl. Like, we literally end right where we started. WHAT.
I think the biggest problem is the internet's over-willingness to jump to a conclusion, especially when bigger names propagate them. In a way, the first person to get their foot in the door gets to set the community's view on the series, which is what happened to Wonder Egg Priority. Someone said, hey, this has potential, and everyone else, by only looking at the surface, assumed it was true.
If I can go on a side tangent, I think this might happen with an upcoming anime this season, Chainsaw Man. Of what is out, I'm not really impressed by anything shown (the characters, in particular). Yet, even before the show started airing, people are already claiming its going to be good.
In short, you right. Many anime fall victim to the problems you mentioned, it's just sad Wonder Egg was no eggception.

For anyone who may have seen this uploaded --twice-- thrice; UA-cam hates this series way more than I do, apparently. I had to fight my way into into their headquarters and personally battle Susan Wojackisquie and her minions (yellow ones)*. It was a hard fought battle, and this video did not come out unscathed. Several chefs died in the process, and our primary reaction youtuber has fled the country. The video you are watching now is what remains of that hard fought battle. Please Enjoy.
