Roger Pryor Pioneer Backcountry is South East of Salem, Missouri.
We made this a 3 day backpacking trip. Arrived at the Himont trail head on an early Thursday afternoon and parked our vehicle there. The trail head has a nice area with picnic tables and fire rings. Picked up a map at the information board, loaded up and headed out. We hiked the Complete loop which is marked with blue blazes. We logged 17.5 miles. The Center trail which splits the East and West sides of the Brushy Creek trail is marked orange and is part of the upper current river OT trail. We hiked the trail clockwise. The trail is well marked, with the exception of the south west portion, you have to really pay attention and look for the blue blazes. There was plenty of water along the trail. Not sure how the water situation is during the summer and dry months. Bee Bluff is a must detour. Be aware there are several steep inclines and numerous water crossings. I really enjoyed this trail! We didn't see anyone else on the trail, which was great! We camped two nights on the trail. The third night we camped at Himont trail head and had our traditional Sunday breakfast. Note: Be aware of hunting seasons. Hunters like to use this area to hunt Turkey and Deer.
