Cloud Peak Wilderness via TH 024

- We left our campground in Buffalo, Wyoming Saturday morning and drove out on highway 16 and turned off on Hunter creek road. Stopped at Hunter Creek Campground, filled out our backcountry permit and continued on FS 394. We drove about a mile and a half before the rocks in one section were becoming very large where we turned back and parked in an open field. Due to my truck not having skid plates and having a long wheel base turning back was wise. FS 394 all the way to TH 024 has numerous places of large rocks. A short wheel base high clearance vehicle will have no problem. So, we parked our trucks, put on the packs and headed out. The plan for this trip was to hike the solitude loop clockwise but unfortunately, we had to go to plan B. We made it to Medicine cabin park for our first night where I had chills and hot flashes thru the night and did not get a lick of sleep. Chose to spend another night. Due to still not feeling 100 percent we chose not to do the loop. Instead we went over Florence pass, over to the base of Cloud peak and back. Florence Canyon is awesome! Medicine Cabin is a great place to camp. We saw a lot of Moose and we were proud of David who finally came thru and caught some trout for us to enjoy.
Wow! What a rocky road to drive on!! Those northern lights looked beautiful and so close!!
