Welcome to my channel. I'm just your average guy who loves being out doors. I have been involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and I'm a member of the Tribe Of Mic-O-Say, hence the name "Stonepipe" which is my tribal name. My goal is to share as many of my adventures as possible for all to enjoy. As Dr. Seuss says, " You Have Brains In Your Head. You Have Feet In Your Shoes. You Can Steer Yourself Any Direction You Choose".
Cloud Peak Wilderness via TH 024
We left our campground in Buffalo, Wyoming Saturday morning and drove out on highway 16 and turned off on Hunter creek road. Stopped at Hunter Creek Campground, filled out our backcountry permit and continued on FS 394. We drove about a mile and a half before the rocks in one section were becoming very large where we turned back and parked in an open field. Due to my truck not having skid plates and having a long wheel base turning back was wise. FS 394 all the way to TH 024 has numerous places of large rocks. A short wheel base high clearance vehicle will have no problem. So, we parked our trucks, put on the packs and headed out. The plan for this trip was to hike the solitude loop clockwise but unfortunately, we had to go to plan B. We made it to Medicine cabin park for our first night where I had chills and hot flashes thru the night and did not get a lick of sleep. Chose to spend another night. Due to still not feeling 100 percent we chose not to do the loop. Instead we went over Florence pass, over to the base of Cloud peak and back. Florence Canyon is awesome! Medicine Cabin is a great place to camp. We saw a lot of Moose and we were proud of David who finally came thru and caught some trout for us to enjoy.

@@markadlardstonepipeadventu2589 Guys like that are always in a hurry! Hopefully you didn’t let him drive?
Only one pic of the star of the show @ 12:15
Yep, that would be hiker bear.
Wow! What a rocky road to drive on!! Those northern lights looked beautiful and so close!!
Where did you pic up a map?
Here are a couple of links that should help you out. You can also find info at All Trails, Hiking project.com and gaiagps.com under Big Piney Trail. The two links below offer printable maps. Very neat, thanks for sharing! -Lori Winslow
Thank you Lori
Loving your videos mate! Keep on making great content. We know how hard it is to get a YT channel off the ground, going through it ourselves. Have subscribed to show our support! Look forward to seeing more!
Thank you so much! It's a bit of a challenge due to our internet is horrible where we live, so this means that I have to run over to my sons place to do the downloads. I am now retired so this should hopefully give me more time to get out and put together more videos. Count me as one of your subscribers! Looking forward to watching your videos. Especially since my Grandparents immigrated here to the United States in 1921 from Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, England.
@@markadlardstonepipeadventu2589 Thank you!
Really enjoyed this - Wanda Lake, wow! Planning to do this loop this year either July or August. Happy hiking!
Thank you! yeah, she was looking good. A lot different than 5 years ago when I went through there while hiking the JMT when it was raining and spitting pea size hail, even then she was a beauty. Good luck and look forward to seeing your trip. Hiked on!
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you. Thanks for watching!
Nice trail and area to backpack! A lot to see along the way! Thank you for sharing the beauty of Arkansas with us. 👍
Thank you and thanks for watching. This area is awesome! 8 years ago I had the opportunity to spend 5 days and 5 nights canoeing 100 miles on the river. The Buffalo National River is America's first national river established in 1972.
Watching this video, I kept thinking that it seems like an area for snakes... and sure enough! Awesome location!
Yeah, we had our eyes on the look out. I didn't see this one until I walked passed it and startled it.
I did this loop if you want to enjoy some down time do it 5 nights 6 days. Many people rush it and miss the relax time. Seems silly to blow through a beautiful place
I totally agree, more time is better But unfortunately my work schedule did not permit that. You take what you get and make the best of it. Definitely not a waste of time.
Great video!
Thank you! and thanks for watching.
Yes! That is one of the most remote locations in Missouri along with being farthest away from the nearest town relative to almost anywhere in the East or East central USA
It is remote, thats for sure. its a beautiful area to hike, backpack and canoe the 11 point.
Would you be interested in helping out a novice? I’m new to the permit stuff and I’m having a hard time navigating how to do all of this.
Tyler, I would be glad to help! I'm actually out right now hiking and training for a backpacking trip on the North Lake South Lake loop this summer. when I get back home this evening, I will run through the procedures.
All permits are issued through Recreation.gov. First thing you would need to do is create an account and complete ALL of the personal information, this will allow you to move thru the permit process quicker because the permit sequence is timed. 15 minutes for the permit portion and once that is complete, they give you another 15 minutes for the billing portion. If you want to do the Rae Lakes Loop trail, you have two entry points to reach the trail. One is via Kearsarge pass and that entry point is in the Inyo National forest Forest, so when you go to Recreation.gov you will need to go to permits and then search for Inyo National Forest Wilderness permits. Once there you click on explore available permits. Now on this page you have 3 questions to fill before the availability of permits is shown. (overnight trip, date of trip and how many in your group) once that is filled out then a screen pops up showing all entry points and whats available. They only allow so many hikers per day at each entry point. kearsarge pass allows 32. They also set aside a few for walk-ins. You can reserve a permit 6 months in advance of you trip. (highly recommend during the peak season!) They go fast!!! When you fill out the permit section they will have you fill in reservation type, entry point, entry date, entry location, exit date, exit point , where you want to pic up the permit and an itinerary. (basically where you will be camping) My advise is to have all this written down. Remember you have only 15 minutes. - The other entry point is Cedar Grove in the Sequoia/kings Canyon National park. Go to Recreation.gov and search for Seq/Kings canyon NP, Steps and procedures are the same. Its sounds like a lot, but once you do a few it isn't so bad. My email is: madlard69@gmail.com if you have any questions please feel free to get in touch.
@@markadlardstonepipeadventu2589 thank you for that detailed explanation. Sure is helpful

I might go after the season in October so I can just walk up and fill out my self permit?
Can you fly fish down there?
Yes, here is a web site that has information that should be helpful. www.missouritrouthunter.com/eleven-point-river.html
All the typical clichés fall short in describing the beauty of this area. Thank you for sharing your adventure. Hopefully I can make it out there some day.
Thanks for watching. The High Sierra's are a must see. I hope you can make it happen.
Hi guys, great video. I just loaded my video of my son and my hike at Whites creek trail. I think we were right behind you. We started out on saturday, 4/24/21 and finished up sunday afternoon. And yes, very confusing on the second day and yes, lots of poison ivy, I'm still suffering a bit.
Hey! Thanks for watching. Yeah, we hiked it the weekend before you. I'm very glad that we located a spot to camp before it got dark. I could not believe how much poison ivy there was! It looked like the south portion of the trail had more use than the North portion. I do know the trail would be really hard to follow in the fall when the leaves are on the ground. Compass and map reading skills would definitely be required.
Subscribed! Really cool video. Interesting to watch. I'm new to making videos and would appreciate you taking a look and any feedback you want to give. And if you want to subscribe. Up to you, thanks!
