Some bowings and articulation may differ from the edition requested by TMEA for 2020-2021. For reference, always check www.tmea.org/divisions-regions/orchestra/audition-material/etudes and use your best judgement!
With anything that is slow like this, best thing to do is ground yourself with a metronome! It is easy to stray away from the pulse on the longer notes, and lose track of it on the 32nd note runs. With the 32nd notes and such, make sure you practice separate bows first with a subdivided pulse (i.e. an eighth note pulse rather than quarter notes) until you can work it into the full slur. I always recommend that you have runs like that memorized, that way you can perform them as a musical gesture, rather than a flow of..well a lot of notes. Other than that, try to incorporate a steady and expressive vibrato that matches your bow usage to create a unified tone quality to suit the etude's mood. Hope that helps!
