Thank you very much! Most discussions of viola size do not include all of the factors you discuss. This is very enlightening.
That Guarneri model in the white looks really gorgeous!

Thanks, you are the first person I have come across in UA-cam videos on violas who presents this information. For some years I have been suspicious of the spacings on an old fingerboard scale for violas I have, a scale printed on an A4 page which was published by a certain famous music publishing firm decades ago. In terms of the physical properties of vibrating strings, one size of fingerboard scale for violas did not seem to make sense to me. I now find my suspicion is well-founded.

Very interesting and educating video that goes to great lengths discussing the different viola sizes. Probably the best source of information on the subject!

I'm 6'4 I found the 16.5 to short, looks like I'm playing a violin. I was hoping you would be discussing 17.5 or a 18 inch Viola.

I can imagine that a 16.5" viola might be too small for you. Sorry I didn't discuss big violas. The reason is that I have had little experience of big violas, since most people need small or medium size violas. However, you still need to think about the same variables, - is the neck long in proportion to the body stop? Is the scroll big and heavy? Is the position where you bow the strings too near or too far from your body for it to be comfortable for your right arm?

I am an adult and my fiddle teacher told me to get a 14inch viola. I did get a 14 inch. Later I got a less expensive 15 1/2 inch. Sounds nice for slower music, but I can't play faster like for American fiddle tunes.

+Julie Nielsen A lot can be done with a good set up to maximize responsiveness, but with less well made instruments there is a limit to what a set up can do. Faster response strings also help, which are mostly steel cored. For a quick response and good sound quality for traditional music on a violin, Helicore sometimes work well. I usually use Evah Pirrazzi strings on small violas.
