      The truth, but which one is best? When started playing I had an LP. Then after a few years I got a cheap Strat. A few years later I splashed out on an expensive Gibson LP. I sold that got an MIJ Strat. After a further 25 years I ended up with one of each. As of today the Strat is winning, but only until next week. So which one is best ? Only one way to find out: FIGHT!

      Only if the Les Paul has single coils, cause humbuckers are the most boring sounding pickups ever.

    • @stefaneduard8169
      @stefaneduard8169 5 років тому +41

      There is no resonance at a solid body instrument that uses magnets to produce signal that is amplified and heard through an amp. It's about sustain.
      The strat sounds amazing on the high frequencies but lacks lows and mids.

      It's an electrical signal has no acoustic sound, the wood or solid body, hollow body are irrelevant.
      All your hearing is electrical signal from pick up generated by string vibration.

      @@luismangiaterra1031 But where does the string vibration come from? What affects (and supports) that vibration? Many parts in the guitar affect it. Same goes for basses. You can literally hear the difference unplugged!! Not just amps or pickups. The raw acoustic sound. It's different. The pickups hear that too.

      True. I switched from professional jazz bass to guitar recently because I moved to a small town and drummers who will leave their house and play are zip. Bass is bliss with a great drummer. I couldn't even play a 3 chord Willie Nelson country song and let me tell you after playing hot bass solos that was soul destroying. And depressing. Well it just takes coordination which comes with practice so keep at it. Marty goes slow and precise- 95% of the other teachers online-- rush, or talk you to death. For me, the Strat seemed like an obvious choice when playing in the stores. The pickups were clearer, the neck more comfortable, and the tonal differences seemed more vast. Just picked up my first les paul a couple weeks ago after making that decision, and for me I love it. It sells hard rock tones so much better, it just has enough character that it makes everything feel and sound confident. I love both, and I regularly use both. But for writing and practicing I use my Paul now

      Squire dude ! $300 of pure guitar !!! They are great sounding and easy to play ! I owned many before I graduated to more expensive guitars. There is one I regret selling, it was one of the best sounding guitars I ever owned, it had double humbuckers, it was a beast ! The Fender "Bullet" is another, and even cheaper ! They sound amazing for the money ! Good luck my friend, we where all where you are at !!! Get that Squire ! You will be happy !!! :)

  • @JosephsCoat

    When you start on acoustic you don’t care how a guitar feels. It’s all about sound. Used to be more of a Tele guy, now I prefer a Strat. One thing is for sure: the Fender sound is the way to go.

    Gibsons in general win because of the sustain and the richness of tone from humbuckers. One of my favorite players was Paul Kossoff and when I first started playing I was heavily influenced by him and his ability to get so many different voicings out of one Les Paul. I have Strats and Teles but my Gibsons (specifically my Les Paul) just sing like nothing else can...

    SG WINS

  • @Nick-qf7vt
    @Nick-qf7vt 4 роки тому +3

    For tone alone I have to go with the Les Paul. Is it heavy? Yes. Is it as ergonomic as the Strat? No. But it's been responsible for most of my personal favourite music (along with the SG). The Strat I feel is overrated and overused. Fender fans (or Gibson detractors, I should say) endlessly bash the LP while circlejerking over how great the Strat is. And I get tired of seeing, and more importantly, hearing it pop up in so many places. They call the Les Paul tone bland, but to me the Strat sounds comparatively sterile and thin. Of course I still love it, but it just gets overused IMO.

    I prefer the SG with coil split tapping.

    • @JohnShalamskas
      @JohnShalamskas 7 років тому

      Split coil isn't the same as a tapped coil. Gibson usually uses a split coil. It disables the humbucking property of the pickup, although you can get that back if you use the middle position of the rhythm switch (both pickups in series.)
