Casually dressed with a straw hat and sandals.. looks like some has-been guy from some band ... but then...then he smiles and single-handedly sings from the bottom of his soul those tunes that send shivers down my spine straight away, still, after 30 years I've first heard them.... amazing.
One of the greatest voices ever
Its Me Mckee you’re talking about the host right? 😂
@@thedadyouneverhadchannel3544 lol awww come on man.... Well I see your point, but I can say when I seen him live in the 90s he was really good. My brother works in the music industry as a session guitar Player and he says there are a lot of big names that wouldnt be more than a normal singer without auto tune.
@@itsmemckee2110 not Geoff
Indeed!
Agree.
After all these years, Operation Mindcrime is still my favorite album of all time.
Mine too.
There can never be a better album.
Watching an interview and thinking Geoff is a normal dude, then he starts singing and you die inside .then … Birkenstock’s . What the hell are my memories !?
yep..mine as well
mine as well
Operation Mindcrime is still my favourite album 30 years later
Ive listened to Queesnsryche from the begining. The lady wore black rocked. Then operation mindcrime came out in '88. It blew my mind and its still one of the best albumns ever made to this day. Revolution calling was an eye opener that still holds truth today about the polticians and the media.
Keep your eyes open. You are correct.
Yep
I had the ep of the first stuff also Alan. The lady wore black kicks ass
Operation mindcrime definitely #1 album of all time, phenomenal music and story material
Daniel Landry I agree
That voice still brings tears to my eyes. What a gift, Geoff has given us!
Thank you.
I still love the Empire album. Geoff is still has a beautiful voice. I miss his long hair.
I loved it at the time but when I listen to it now, it sounds over produced to me. A little to bright sounding or something.
@@scottcastro9383 it is my favorite production in an album
One of the best voices in rock. So underated....
Geoff's Tate's voice was never underated I disagree with you, it became underated in 2010 but still recognized as one of metals all time best vocalists, but now his voice has improved a lot and it shows here.
vtorresma G Underrated? How is he underrated? Everyone knows how great Geoff Tate is, his name is always brought up in conversation as one of the best of the best. You are making that statement just for the sake of making a statement. That’s like me saying Led Zeppelin is an underrated band.
Under rated? Hardly. He’s regarded as a great singer. Maybe a little crazy and egotistical, but he has always been regarded as a great singer.
The very best, imho.
Nope. Never underrated at all.
People use the word 'underrated' when someone isn't a household name.....like King's X (ohhhhh I'm SO bored by comments saying how underrated they are....NOT TRUE!!).
I listened to Mind Crime in its entirety. Afterwards David Lee Roth came on and it seemed so empty.
It changed my life. I still turn young people on to it today and they always love it.
Amazing concept album for sure !!!
It is truly a masterpiece and still so relevant today.
I remember first hearing "I dont believe in love on the radio" I knew instantly it was good, but I had no idea how genius the album was.
Wore that cassette out.... It became one of my favorite records, the depth, the intelligence of it, the social commentary and awareness of it, the lyrics and sheer musicianship... Genius.
Operation Mind Crime...I bought that album the first day it came out. Phenomenal piece of work!
Bridge is a song of pain, anger and disappointment. Geoff does a good job with it. As ALWAYS, he is MASTERFUL on the vocals singing Eyes of a Stranger. Wow-he is in Outer Space in the way he leaves all other American Metal singers just watching him hit the notes. 4/29/2019.
I was a sophomore in college when Promised Land was released. After finishing work on release day, I went back to my dorm room (single room - no roommate), popped the CD into my CD Walkman, and heard what I now consider to be an absolute masterpiece. As well, my dad left when I was three. There were tears flowing down my face the first time I heard Bridge. I just turned 45 this week, and my dad sent me a happy birthday text. I’ve not heard from him in 14 years. Weird position indeed.
A true LEGEND Geoff Tate!
Geoff looks like he's dressed to go fishing.
LOL.
I had no idea that he was a hillbilly... until today! lol
That was funny! “Well, we have one more!”. lol... poor guy... people need to let him know he’s appreciated and how much they love his music!
Some rockers don't seem to understand how epic their music was ,to me their like the pink Floyd of our TIME.
And to be honest even better and more updated in my opinion.
Queensyche to was like a mixture of Priest, Maiden and Floyd which made the Queensyche sound.
I agree with you guys.
I understood 300%
For sure
QR Mindcrime made Pink Floyd's The Wall sound like a Katy Perry Tribute to Hello Kitty.
I remember in High school, us stoners were jamming to Queensryche, all the "cool " kids were into Poison.. Years later it just proves how smart us "stoners" were👍🤣
I will never never forget this voice. Love it so much. The most beautiful voice ever. Thank you for this. I will remember...
Geoff Is beyond incredible!
Geoff's band is awesome, my son and I have met them 3 different times in Seattle can not wait to see them again
The man's vocal are Epic
Love this interview. Geoff Is very deep and honest in his interviews.
If it was better summarized by that gooffball of an interviewer it could have been much better.
Operation Mindcrime is an absolutely amazing album and concept to share stories of the dark sides of life and humanity in a most profound way thru metal a great timeless classic extraordinary creation have always love Queensryche since early 80z
Geoff’s voice affects me in such a positive way. I listen to a random Queensryche song every day, on my way to or from work, just to get a dose of that beautiful vibe.
I was working at Sound Warehouse when the EP came into the store. We opened one up and played it in the store and listened to to them ever since. It was a popular play in the store.
I worked at SOUNDWAREHOUSE in Texas at the same time! Lol!
Amazing voice. Amazing pitch.
Geoff is the best singer of all time in my opinion. His voice has always touched my soul.
WOW... it's been 30 years since they dropped that iconic masterpiece. Wherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre have 30 years gone??????????????? I'm still the same person. Not much has changed about me as a person at all.
Me too Tricia, goes WAY too fast!
Tricia Star We’ve all spent a lot of time ticking away at the moments that make up a dull day, fritter and wasting the hours in an offhand way.
Great music, and great voice as always!
As Geoff fails to mention its Chris DeGarmo’s song that Chris wrote about Chris’ dad, not Geoff’s.
Chris might have wrote it but Geoff gave it life. He didn’t say he wrote it, he just said it means a lot to him.
But he makes it sound it was about him and HIS dad...
Geoff didn’t say it was written about his dad. Geoff said he could relate to the song as it happens to millions of people.
I know I said the same thing, and I like how he makes it about him.
Such a gift , so down to earth! Great music 🎶 for a lifetime..
This Albums is timeless…never gets old! You still got it Geoff !!
Awesome as always. My favorite
Damn...Geoff still got the pipes to rock it! Love hearing his voice, its so crisp and clear...like listening to the CD.
Awesome I absolutely love Operation Mindcrime, thank you so much guys
His speaking Voice ❤️
Epic record!
One of the Best Queensryche, Geoff Tate, Interviews ... I've Heard.
Holy crap, this is the Metal shop guy, amazing. I was a teen back then and would listen to M-M-M-Metal shop to hear new music. Loved that show.
Operation mindcrime was so futuristic, one of the best albums ever made.
Operation Mindcrime is what got me obsessed with Queensryche
Well, He's still got a Voice! That was awsome thanks
Being a fan since '84 and been to several concerts I have to admit Geoff hasn't lost a thing!
Yes it did blow everyone's mind. Got to see them early on.
Eres grande Geoff Tate
There’s hardly a week that goes by that I don’t listen to Operation Mindcrime and Empire back to back while puttering around the house. Classics from cover to cover !!!
Many say underrated but everyone says Tate is the best - maybe not underrated but under marketed
Tate is the goat 🤘🤘
This guy is a national treasure .
Love this one
Geoff Tate is amazing!
Beautiful I Love it ....such memories 💋
Saw him in Belfast this week. Legend!
Epic acoustic set! I love Rockenfields thunderous drums but this was solid🤘
I love the bridge song!!! N Operation Mind crime was brillant! 😁❤️
Incredible interview 🤘🤘🤘!!
Awesome video!!!
MIndcrime was and is an album that you can really get into, and that really gets into you. It was a major standout from the hair metal shit that was the order of the day in '88. We spun it over and over, getting high and escaping the kind of world the songs were really all about. It was an amazing and uncanny experience. As a 16-year old I really thought they were ushering in some kind of Revolution.
Love the song Bridge….. awesome song
Saw them when they open up for Van Halen on the 1984 tour. One of the two times a band has totally caught off guard with how good they really were. Oddly enough, the only other time is when I saw Keith Urban 15 years ago at a 1800 seat Indian Casino. I could not believe how he was shredding on his guitar, so much so he could have given Eddie a run for his money. Mind blowing Good. But anyway, I have a Pandora Station called Queensryche that I listen to everyday.
Cheers
Wow sounds good. So clean.
Great voices,i grew up with your music!
Any old school fan knows that Chris Degarmo wrote most of their music. 2 of 4 on the EP, and then he's involved on almost every track afterwards.
I swear they ALWAYS said this song was about Chris DeGarmos experience with his dad. That's the story they said when it came out.
It is.
Chris is an ego maniac!;geoff wrote everything
@@jimmyz171 lol😂😂😂😂
@@jimmyz171 absolutely not.
I still have that album!
Still my favorite QR album!
Geoff: The best forever!!!
Love u Geoff
Its Maaaaxxxxx Valume Renos best Groupy...🤘🏻🤠
Oh no, not Bridge...my dad was my best friend and the nicest man I ever knew..when I listen to this song, I reverse the roles because I was the one that failed my father...he suffered and was dying from cancer...he begged me to take him home so that he could be close to his black labs, Nina and Magic....but I did not bring him hone..I had one father and one time to make things right...and I failed...years later now Nina and Magic are gone. I have never found peace with their death nor have I forgiven myself..I just try and convince myself that they are all together somewhere across the universe and that I will join them when my time is done...if only I could dream that vision instead of the nightly nightmares...I better go listen to Silent Lucidity now
Well God forgives if you ask the Lord for forgiveness, however you were ungreatful with your father and is good that you recognized it.
Ur dad is part of the sonic universal energy and light now. You’re his son. His love for u is as infinite as his energy and memories. Forgive yourself. The Man U describe would never want u to suffer like this. Celebrate him instead of beating urself down for mistakes made years ago. I’m dealing with an ailing dad and trying to squash issues but he won’t let it happen. Won’t give me the closure I need so I read ur post and feel the pain. Sending positive vibes to u brother
Don Saxon We all have to make decisions that at the time we think they are the right ones. Don’t beat yourself up, you loved him and thought you were doing the best thing for him at the time.
Thankyou
Who the hell is this interviewer. What the world man. I've seen some weird people but DAMN
Cool. Best Metalvoice ever, so charismatic
Love Geoff’s getup, lol
Yeeeeehawwwww!!!
Still got it ROCK ON!
Operation Mind Crime is for sure one of the best albums I've heard in my life, just missing Edu Cominato doing the percussion!!!
Lovely beautiful from the depths of my heart Suzanne Converse thank you love love love
great tune
The host is so weird !
Totally - That's a radio DJ ? What a dork -
And whats up with Geoff Wealthy like man - dressed like some kind of a bum
Even Geoff is struggling to talk to the dude and look in his eyes. It's crazy.
Yes, definitely. He seems like the kind of interviewer that wants to draw the attention to himself rather than on the person that originally was meant to be the center of the interview. It's a bit annoying.
LOL. Yeah.
Agreed. The dude just makes statements then jams the mic in Geoff's face. Geoff's like... uhhh is that a question?
I recall Chris DeGarmo wrote this about his dad, who never heard it because he passed during the recording of the album.
Folks don't be hard on the interviewer. He asks some very interesting question and he knows the band very well. He is awesome!
Yes but he can summarize, he's annoying.
Ha ha. He reminds me of Zed from Legend Of The Seeker
Did not recognize him, but the voice! One if not the best in the business.
Degarmo wrote this about his dad. Tate is a little weird talking about him. He surely knows very well he's a pilot now.
I think he sounds great here. You can clearly hear his voice here.
Wow he lived in Montreal !
He’s still got it.
Geoff is better now then he was in 2013-14
Operation Mindcrime is a great album.
You can notice the awkward feeling when the dude asks Geoff about Chris. Man, that made me sad. You can clearly see that Geoff doesn't feel good talking about his former bandmates or his past Queensryche experiences. So sad...😔
I felt that too. Almost the awkward pause afterwards
Bridge was written by Chris and is about his dad .. not Geoff’s.. Not sure why he didn’t mention that..
louis rotella Geoff and Chris had similar experiences with their fathers. They have talked about this and the song meant a lot to both of them.
I ALWAYS heard it was about DeGarmos life too.
@@FreeMTrider . BS, it was never mention that it was about Geoff's dad.
MetalLion 07 listen. It’s not BS. You can look it up in their interviews. Geoff and Chris did quite a few of them together. So get your shit right.
@@FreeMTrider
Not true. DeGarmo AND Tate came out as soon as record was released & said it was about DeGarmo & his relationship with his dad. Tate said he helped write the piano & DeGarmo wrote the words about his life.
I think it was 1994 or 1995 that I finally managed to save enough money to buy a CD player at Consumers Distributing, and the first CD I bought was Operation Mindcrime.
Sad to hear Geoff & Chris don't speak!! What bar in Montreal did he frequent?
Okay so jet City woman was all the time I was traveling and you knocked my socks off I love you
Operation: Mindcrime was the perfect record. Idk how many copies I've worn out.
Saw you at Great woods in Massachusetts
Oh my good let it singing
Yup , Mr. TATE STILL HAS IT...
I find it extremely insulting that people compare Queensryche to Pink Floyd. If the song "Silent Lucidity" is how you define Queensryche it only shows that you have no clue who they are or what they accomplished. Queensryche came out long before their time and I am not sure that even today there is anything that compares. Listen to Rage For Order in depth and see the talent that they deliver. Original talent.
I don’t think people were comparing them musically but rather about their intelligent lyrics and high concepts in song writing.
This guy. Only listens to B sides so everyone else doesn't know the true music of QR🤣
5:35 He talks about the Pub Saint-Sulpice on Saint-Denis street in Montreal.
I was always there for my son James
