I don't believe I've ever seen anyone sing the Anthem so effortlessly. Everyone was screaming as the song built up, and he was like "whatever.." so wonderful!!
I just want to say thanx to everybody for enjoying my video of Geoff so much. He is my friend and an amazing artist. This is the time for you to stand up for him. and say "No Geoff Tate No Queensryche" Thank you again everybody.
Please tell Geoff I just saw & heard this video for the very first time. This Combat Veteran salutes Geoff Tate and thanks him for a great performance of my favorite song. Many of my friends were wounded & I lost half a dozen friends in Iraq. This brought a smile & a small tear to my eye.
Tell Mr. Geoff that he perfectly sang the already perfect National Anthem, and that I hope one day i have the chance to meet him and thank him personally for everything he portrayed in his songs while in Queensryche.
I'm seeing this video for the first time 10 years after you posted it. I agree, that without Geoff, Queensryche just isn't QR! Chris's departure was a devastating blow too! Together, the five original members had a truly MAGICAL musical alchemy. I'm SO sad that they split up! I have nothing against Todd, but I CAN'T (and don't) listen to him singing any songs that Geoff sang. It just hurts me to hear the replacement singer singing Geoff''s songs. I was in the fan club and got to meet the guys several times. They were really good to us fans with meet and greets and fan club events etc. Once I brought a rather large and unwieldy collage I made to a fan event in Seattle right after the release of "Promised Land". I had a hard time getting the thing onto the plane. At the event I was able to have them all sign it, but Geoff in particular took his time looking it over, and I really appreciated that! All of them were always very nice and down to earth with us. It meant a lot! I'm happy that Geoff has made peace with the situation and is thriving with the various projects he's involved with. You're lucky to be his friend! And I'll bet that's vica versa too. 😝
@@brownholecharles Kiske is awesome but his lower register is weak compared to Tate, this last can sing much lower. Anyway, did u know that Tate was Kiske biggest influence? He talked about that in an interview years ago, he said he was the best even better than Dickinson. No joking.
Not many singers can pull this off acapella. Geoff is one of the few who sounds just as good without any backup-the mark of a truly great singer. This is my favorite rendition of this powerful song. Bravo!
I have always believed that our Anthem is fine the way it is. Hearing someone who actually knows how to sing makes it excellent. Many try to overdo it and just ruins the entire performance. Geoff did a perfect job on it. Its got his FLAIR, he didn't try to VIBRATO the whole thing and he didn't extend the lines too far. Just enough to make it his own. Very nice job
I love how he sang it straight through without a bunch of rolling notes. Its a pretty song if its sung properly and it takes a pretty good voice to pull it off.
...the old days. I came in at Promised Land. The thing that attracted me? The vocals. There is way more to Geoff's voice than just range. There's a unique timbre to it. Something insanely magical about his tone that no one else can truly touch upon. Also, in the old school albums the parts I found most beautiful were when he dropped out of the top octaves and sung softly. Magical. Bruce is a low tenor. His voice is naturally high compared to a barritone like Geoff.
I agree with everything you said!! Geoff's voice, and all the colors he creates with tone, expression, power, intensity, vibrato, range, timbre, and absolute control IS truly MAGICAL! I became aware of them during the release of "Empire". "Anybody Listening?" was my first time hearing/seeing them. I was blown away! All the elements I was looking for in a song were there! I went back through their catalogue from there and was amazed to have found such a TALENTED and consistently excellent band that really spoke to me! EACH band member, but especially Geoff!
I don't think I've ever heard a performance like this when the audience is already applauding before the song even was over I don't think that's ever happened that was a great performance that's the way it should be sung all natural and no auto tune.. and you know who you are
Wow another person that likes to live life through the press. I knows Geoff and his family they are nice group of people. Geoff has nothing but respect for his fans. A few years ago I introduced Geoff to a friend of mine that was dying from Aids. She was the mother of 2 kids. He talked to her for over a half back stage about her kids and family. So before you judge this man get to know him first.
@Russ Richard I went through problems back in the 90s and hearing Geoff sing made things bearable. I love the song Silent Lucidity and I always said that Geoff Tate seems like a nice guy. Geoff is Queensryche now and always.
What an amazing voice he has. His range is phenomenal. He hits all the high notes, but his voice is incredibly rich and soothing. It's operatic and metal at the same time.
A very good rendition of the National Anthem - much better than most singers of this song - Geoff holds those extended notes and sings at a high enough octave to make it sound really great and give this classic the right feel, the deep meaning of its grand words. Yeah Geoff Tate - very nice man! ;-)
Good God man. Geoff Tate just standing there with a microphone in his hand, no music. Almost giving the same energy like he did on take hold of the flame, live in Tokyo! What a freaking singer!!
Any whore on the Vegas strip or American Idol could do a "female version" of the national anthem. Geoff Tate is a living god. To say a drug crazed moaning whore could be his equal is...well...insulting.
I was behind the stage at Lakewood Amphitheatre in 1995 for the Promised Land concert and listened to sound check. His voice was all you could hear. It was amazing. I was also front row center at the show that night. He sounded amazing. Every bit as good as he does on the albums. Perhaps Coldmystery just happened to see him when he was a little off.
Great performance, you can hear the audience really came alive when he started hitting the high notes. I'd laugh if he would have kicked in to Queen of the Ryche afterwards!
Think , before you speak. That place is not the best acoustically, and to stay on pitch you need to actually hear yourself, not an "echo". Sound changes pitch as it travels through air. Ever see speakers on the floor that actually face a band? Some may use an earpiece now on stage. To sing in a place like that, or many open places, you often have to sing sharp to end up making it sound right. I am sure they did a mic check, tapped it and said here, sing. He did excellent considering.
Seeing alot of comments about this being at a Raiders/Seahawks game. This is at Qwest Field and it was done before the Seahawks/Saints game. You can see Saints unis on the sideline, plus.. I was at this game
Geoff Tate was untouchable in his prime.
He could sing twinkle twinkle little star and make it a hit!! The man is a living legend!! G.O.A.T.
That’s how the national anthem SHOULD be sung. Absolutely fantastic!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Totally agree
The ending where he gets real high and holds the note give you goosebumbs -- awesome!
I don't believe I've ever seen anyone sing the Anthem so effortlessly. Everyone was screaming as the song built up, and he was like "whatever.." so wonderful!!
Most beautiful I’ve ever heard it sung. What an incredible voice and talent still to this day!!

Could never get over his 5 octave range WITH vibrato all the way. Nobody could touch him back in the day.
Especially not for such a naturally deep baritone.
cough cough.. Michael Kiske of Helloween,

I took my son to that game. I remember this. It was amazing.
I was there too bro, my only NFL game
Great to have lived in the 80s,with this legend Geoff Tate. I was smitten by his vocals since '82!

The stadium is still vibrating after that vibrato in the end. This is unreal stuff.

GEOFF TATE IS F'ING AWESOME !!! I have always been amazed by his talent and vocal ability !!!!
Love it incredible range, pitch, tone and he sang it the way it goes!!!
One of the greatest singers ever! His dad is a Veteran too✌
best vocal of all time. or at least my time. truly the master.
Never knew he did that...outstanding!
Absolutely amazing. Geoff = awesome. Gave me goosebumps listening to him do it.
Just when I thought Tate had shredded everything, I hear him do this song. He's truly awesome!
Just love his voice! Geoff rocks!!!!❤
favorite of many. matched by few. Thank you Mr. Tate!!!
Matched by none (my opinion)

That's gotta be a career highlight for any singer to be asked to do that. To me, that's quite an honor. Geoff's amazing.

he nailed it. awesome!!!
Imagine Tate from 80s
he would've sing an octave higher
Not only that but with more projection power and better tone by light years
I wish he still had it. I wish.
I know Chris
07 Tate still had a ton of range
He was still hitting high high notes on occasion
who ever said goeff has lost a couple steps in voice are dead wrong, this proves he still has that magical voice
