If you wanted to know the EXACT Moment where WWE REALLY went downhill, the Burial of the Nexus is the point where the company completely took their eye off the ball. You can go ahead and say that the guys in the Nexus weren't stars, but the angle was at least intriguing, with its shades of the NWO, and at a time when the WWE needed to build for the future, the logical thing to do would be to have The Nexus win and keep the story going for another year or so. Instead, John Cena and Vince's Boys' club took short-term profit over long-term success by having Cena beat the Nexus, making them look like chumps in the process. This not only marked the beginning of WWE's downward spiral, it would also mark the beginning a decade of them wasting or misusing talent. Think about this for a moment, we could've had a main event scene with the likes of Ryback, Damien Sandow, Wade Barrett, Rusev, Dolph Ziggler and (Yes) CM Punk. But instead, Vince McMahon and his Boys club don't know how to make stars because they don't WANT to make them. Remember: Triple H has said that there won't be any wrestler "Bigger than the brand." And that is all you need to know about WWE today.
The biggest difference between Hulk Hogan and John Cena? Hulk brought in millions of new fans and made more life long wrestling fans then any era in wrestling. Yes, even more then the attitude era. both cena and Vince are to blame for the burial of nexus. It goes along with the narrative that anyone who got over or was getting over was eventually undercut by cena. It is as if Vince panics, says “oh no, he/she/they are too popular. They can’t be more over than cena.”
This video reminds me of why I was so happy when Cena lost to the Rock clean at WM28, I thought thank god, there is one person this prick cant out politic or bury.
Nexus losing here hurt but Barrett still could have been a top guy. After the summerslam loss they really had him lose to orton twice and then Cena again at TLC
Did you honestly think a bunch of rookies with no image was going to go over on all of the top superstars in the WWE?? They should have been happy to be in the same ring with those icons! People act like Nexus was the second coming of the 4 Horsemen, when their debut was really the only good thing they did. Nexus is almost as overrated as SuperCena himself is. And people think that a measly win would have turned these guys with no charisma and no look into stars? It’s possible, but as Shinsuke proved a win over Cena does not mean you will skyrocket. The main reason Nexus’ burial is so notorious is because it was the most burials in such little time. Besides, there are worse burials and misuses (Damian Sandow, EC3, SANITY, Sting, Zack Ryder, etc)
Obviously the nexus...retribution comparison...but thinking on this in 2010 till 2020 and you think How Long...How long has raw sucked?..How long has creative and Vince made a good storyline only to fuck it up?..How long have they ruined great potential wrestlers?..And the breakfast club thing😅😅😅😅 cena denying till this day,he had no pull backstage🤣🤣🤣
I would of been more upset if any of the Nexus 7 were actually half decent at the time. Bruh that group was trash was after their debut. Literally a bunch of create a wrestlers with 0 personality (that they got years after the angle) that were have mediocre matches and horrid promo/acting skills (outside of Barrett)
@Sparda G Cena probably shouldn't have won at Summerslam......that being said.....Nexus was still dog shit at the time. Only 1 guy could actually cut a promo and that was Barrett and none of them could even have a solid main event level match. The group just wasn't that good. Also Edge's big claim to fame was his ratings with the live sex celebration but the dude was like an 11 time champion. After that moment dude wasn't pulling ratings like that after that moment and actually helped rating decline on SD when he was the World Champion.......what a great draw lmao
This is going to get a lot of hate, but you kind of contradict yourself when you mention that Vince had team Cena go over because he was too afraid to take a risk during Linda's senate campaign and then say that it was 'all Cena's fault.' At the end of the day, it was Summerslam and Vince wanted to send the kids (who were the majority of WWE's audience at the time) home happy. You also say that Cena never admitted that it was the wrong decision (even though he actually did) and that he should take 'full responsibility.' But he can't exactly take 'full responsibility' when it was Vince's decision (as you later admit). The Nexus definitely should have won, but to act like Cena was behind it and twisted McMahon's arm to make him go over instead, is just wrong
what they shoulda done is have nexus win at summerslam then cena goes away for a bit. barrett beats orton for the wwe title due to nexus and cena comes back wins the rumble (instead of ADR winning which was so random) and cena goes to wm to beat barrett for the title. it writes itself. it wouldnt bury barrett losing to cena at wm because he had already beaten team cena before and had a dominant title reign. obvs cena would be the hero but dont have him ruin the damn thing so early at summerslam. post wm you coulda booked the breakup of the nexus slowly and it woulda worked.

Yo in the 80s it was Hulk Hogan who had the sway in the then WWF. Then in the 90s it was The Kliq who ran things. In the 2000s and 2010s it was John Cena who has sway with Vince McMahon. Now it’s the 2020s let’s see who’s gonna have swag with the old man now.
both cena and Vince are to blame for the burial of nexus. It goes along with the narrative that anyone who got over or was getting over was eventually undercut by cena.
It is as if Vince panics, says “oh no, he/she/they are too popular. They can’t be more over than cena.”
Well wwe died
This video reminds me of why I was so happy when Cena lost to the Rock clean at WM28, I thought thank god, there is one person this prick cant out politic or bury.
Bret put Owen Hart over. & Austin was the mega putting people over. I’ve never heard people saying Stone Cold plays politics
John Cena buried the Nexsus.
Nexus losing here hurt but Barrett still could have been a top guy. After the summerslam loss they really had him lose to orton twice and then Cena again at TLC
to be fair, wwe did dull daniel bryan down in those initial wwe years.
Cm Punk could be the leader
He was the leader of the new nexus..not sure
Even shitty booking back then sheesh. Vince and Cena let their egos get the best of them. And now look where WWE PG is. In the fucking 🚽.
The problem always is and always will be the man known as John Cena
Obviously the nexus...retribution comparison...but thinking on this in 2010 till 2020 and you think How Long...How long has raw sucked?..How long has creative and Vince made a good storyline only to fuck it up?..How long have they ruined great potential wrestlers?..And the breakfast club thing😅😅😅😅 cena denying till this day,he had no pull backstage🤣🤣🤣
Wwe was at its absolute worst during the fall/winter of 2010. Only bright spot was maybe miz winning the title.
Let’s Go Cena!!!!!!!
